Polster and Steinke [Result. Math., 46 (2004), 103–122] determined the possible Kleinewillingh?fer types of flat Laguerre planes. These types reflect transitivity properties of groups of certain central automorphisms. We exclude three more types from the list given there with respect to Laguerre homotheties. This yields a complete determination of all possible single types with respect to Laguerre homotheties that can occur in flat Laguerre planes. Building on results by M?urer and Hartmann to characterize ovoidal or miquelian Laguerre planes we further characterize certain flat Laguerre planes in terms of their Kleinewillingh?fer types.  This paper concerns 4-dimensional (topological locally compact connected) elation Laguerre planes that admit non-solvable automorphism groups. It is shown that such a plane is either semi-classical or a single plane admitting the group SL(2, ). Various characterizations of this single Laguerre plane are obtained. Up to conjugation, there exist three different polarities of the projective plane over Hamilton's quaternions . The skew hyperbolic motion group of P2 is introduced as the centralizer of a polarity of the third kind. According to a result of R. Löwen, the quaternion plane is characterized among the eight-dimensional stable planes by the fact that it admits an effective action of the centralizer of a polarity of the first or second kind (i.e., the elliptic or the hyperbolic motion group). In the present paper, we prove the analogous result for skew hyperbolic case.  相似文献

We take a further step toward the classification of all flat (2-dimensional) Laguerre planes of group dimension 4 by determining, up to isomorphism, all such Laguerre planes that admit 4-dimensional groups of automorphisms that fix at least two parallel classes. It is shown that these planes occur among those flat Laguerre planes of generalised shear type that admit a 3-dimesional kernel.  相似文献

In 1965 Knuth (J. Algebra 2 (1965) 182) noticed that a finite semifield was determined by a 3-cube array (aijk) and that any permutation of the indices would give another semifield. In this article we explain the geometrical significance of these permutations. It is known that a pair of functions (f,g) where f and g are functions from GF(q) to GF(q) with the property that f and g are linear over some subfield and g(x)2+4xf(x) is a non-square for all x∈GF(q)∗, q odd, give rise to certain semifields, one of which is commutative of rank 2 over its middle nucleus, one of which arises from a semifield flock of the quadratic cone, and another that comes from a translation ovoid of Q(4,q). We show that there are in fact six non-isotopic semifields that can be constructed from such a pair of functions, which will give rise to six non-isomorphic semifield planes, unless (f,g) are of linear type or of Dickson-Kantor-Knuth type. These six semifields fall into two sets of three semifields related by Knuth operations.  相似文献

A new rather large family of locally compact 2-dimensional topological Laguerre planes is introduced here. This family consists exactly of those Laguerre planes which can be obtained by pasting together two halves of the classical real Laguerre plane along a circle suitably. Isomorphism classes and automorphism groups of these planes are determined. Together with [9] this gives a complete classification of all semicalssical topological flat Lguerre planes.  相似文献

In a previous article (Arch. Math. {64} (1995), 75–85) we showed that flat Laguerre planes can be constructed by'integrating' flat affine planes. It turns out that'most' of the known flat Laguerre planes arise in this manner. In this paper we show that similar constructions are also possible in the case of the other two kinds of flat circle planes, that is, the flat Möbius planes and the flat Minkowski planes. In particular, we show that many of the known flat Möbius planes can be constructed by integrating a closed strip taken from a flat affine plane. We also show how flat Minkowski planes arise as integrals of two flat affine planes. All known flat Minkowski planes can be constructed in this manner.  相似文献

A special Laguerre plane is a nondegenerate transversal 3-design such that the residue of each point is a dual affine plane. A special Laguerre plane is equivalent to an optimal code with three information digits and maximal length. An extended dual affine plane is an incidence structure (whose objects will be called points and blocks) such that the residue of each point is a dual affine plane, and each pair of points is in at least one block. Finite extended dual affine planes exist only of order 2, 4, and (dubiously) 10. We show that any finite incidence structure having the residue of each point a dual affine plane either is a transversal 3-design or has a block through each pair of points. Hence theorem: If a finite nondegenerate connected incidence structure has the residue of each point a dual affine plane, then is either an extended dual affine plane or a special Laguerre plane. For M?bius planes Schaeffer [9] has proved that all seven point degenerations of Miquel's Theorem characterize miquelian M?bius planes. For Laguerre planes we have several degenerations of Miquel's Theorem with eight and seven points. We prove that all except one of these degenerations characterize miquelian Laguerre planes. We introduce two axioms in Laguerre geometry and prove that they provide a characterization of miquelian planes over fields of the characteristic different from 2. They allow to describe an involutory automorphism that sheds some new light on a Laguerre inversion as well as on a symmetry with respect to a pair of generators.  相似文献

Kleinewillinghöfer classified in [7] Laguerre planes with respect to central automorphisms and obtained a multitude of types. For finite Laguerre planes many of these types are known to be empty. In this paper we investigate the Kleinewillinghöfer types of flat Laguerre planes with respect to the full automorphism groups of these planes and completely determine all possible types of flat Laguerre planes with respect to Laguerre translations.  相似文献

A new axiomatization involving incidence and remoteness of planes with nondivision coordinate rings is introduced and a coordinatization theorem is obtained. A geometric process of splitting points and lines to obtain another plane with the same coordinates is described. It is also shown that a group of Steinberg type is parametrized by a nonassociative ring. The notion of elementary basis sets for an associative ring is introduced and constructions of projective and affine planes are given. A plane with reflections determining a system of rotations is shown to have commutative, associative coordinates.  相似文献

We say that two points x, y of a cap C form a free pair of points if any plane containing x and y intersects C in at most three points. For given N and q, we denote by m2+ (N, q) the maximum number of points in a cap of PG(N, q) that contains at least one free pair of points. It is straightforward to prove that m2+ (N, q) ≤ (qN-1 + 2q − 3)/(q − 1), and it is known that this bound is sharp for q = 2 and all N. We use geometric constructions to prove that this bound is sharp for all q when N ≤ 4. We briefly survey the motivation for constructions of caps with free pairs of points which comes from the area of statistical experimental design. Classes of parabolic unitals in the regular nearfield planes of odd square order are enumerated and classified. These unitals correspond to certain Buekenhout-Metz unitals in the classical plane.
