Self-induced phase matching in stimulated four-wave mixing in a nonbirefringent single-mode optical fiber has been observed. It is shown that in a nonbirefringent single-mode fiber the phase matching that is necessary for stimulated four-wave mixing can be accomplished with a combination of self-phase modulation and cross-phase modulation induced by a pump-laser pulse.  相似文献

We demonstrate efficient self-phase modulation with a nonlinear phase shift of up to 3π, broadband cross-phase modulation, and four-wave mixing with a 14 nm tunability range in AlGaAs waveguides with a specially designed composition. The length of our sample is only 9 mm, but the efficiency of the observed effects is high.  相似文献

We present experimental results on one-dimensional (1-D) spatial solitons in AlGaAs waveguides. Three distinct types of spatial solitons have been observed: namely the fundamental soliton, the Manakov soliton, and the vector soliton. The fundamental soliton is the simplest form of 1-D soliton which consists of a single polarization. The properties of waveguiding and ‘robustness’ are experimentally studied. Vector solitons which result from the complex interplay between the two orthogonally polarized beams due to self-phase modulation, cross-phase modulation, and four-wave mixing effects are studied. The complex beam dynamics and polarization behaviour of the vector solitons are experimentally studied. Manakov solitons which are a special case of the vector soliton exist when the ratio between the self-to-cross-phase modulation is one and the four-wave mixing effects becomes zero are demonstrated experimentally and the basic properties discussed. Finally, some soliton interactions such as trapping and dragging are reported and possible applications of soliton interactions are discussed.  相似文献

We propose a numerical method to accurately discriminate the influence of the different intrachannel nonlinear effects occurring in 40 Gbit/s optical transmissions, following an analogy with methods used to discriminate WDM interchannel effects. In contrast to other studies showing the predominance of intrachannel cross-phase modulation when low-dispersion fibers are used, in our study intrachannel four-wave mixing is the most penalizing effect in all investigated cases.  相似文献

A highly efficient intracavity four-wave mixing in a Raman-active medium pumped by a continuous-wave laser is first demonstrated. Managing the intracavity dispersion to satisfy the phase matching in a high-finesse cavity substantially enhances the anti-Stokes emission. This process is observed in a region far beyond small signal approximation, indicating the generation of phase-locked sidebands arising from molecular modulation. This points to a novel approach of an optical modulator and mode-locked laser operating at a frequency of more than 10 THz.  相似文献

The nonlinear effects that limit the performance of the multi-frequency probe(MFP)based coherent optical time domain reflectometry(C-OTDR)are investigated.Based on theoretical analysis and experimental results,compared with conventional C-OTDR,when the probe pulse has power gradient within the pulse width,self-phase modulation(SPM)and cross-phase modulation(XPM)are strengthened in the new C-OTDR scheme.The generation of four-wave mixing(FWM)is dependent on SPM and XPM,and with modulation frequency of phase modulator higher than 40 MHz,the stimulated Brillouin scattering(SBS) threshold can be enhanced by more than 5 dB,which benefits the maximum dynamic range of the MFP C-OTDR.  相似文献

We experimentally study the combined nonlinear effects,including four-wave mixing,stimulated Raman scattering,soliton dynamics,and cross-phase modulation by coupling femtosecond pulses around 850 nm into the normal dispersion region near the zero-dispersion wavelength in the fundamental mode of a homemade silica photonic crystal fiber. The nonlinear optical dynamics at different stages are demonstrated,and the discrete ultraviolet(UV) to visible wavelengths widely separated from the pump wave are generated by the interaction of several nonlinear effects involved. The UV to visible wavelengths can be used as short pulse sources for multiphoton ionization,fluorescence spectroscopy,and biochemical imaging.  相似文献

The authors report on all-optical switching devices based on semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA) in applications for optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) transmission technology. The report includes a discussion on the basic properties of an SOA, on the nonlinear processes of cross-phase modulation and four-wave mixing in the SOA used for all-optical switching, and on the application of the SOA as demultiplexer, add-drop multiplexer, clock recovery and wavelength converter. The devices considered here operate at data rates in excess of \Gb80, where electrical signal processing is not available today.  相似文献

Broadband chirped-pulse four-wave mixing and a pulse compressor consisting of a prism pair and a grating pair are used to generate 10.3-fs deep-ultraviolet pulses. A large proportion of the dispersion up to 1000 fs2 is compensated without inducing third-order dispersion, which together with the smooth spectral and temporal profiles of the pulses makes them suitable for ultrafast spectroscopy. Unexpected spectral narrowing is observed when short input pulses were used for four-wave mixing. This narrowing is explained in terms of other third-order nonlinear phenomena, namely self-phase and cross-phase modulations, which occur simultaneously with four-wave mixing.  相似文献

We demonstrate on-chip all-optical pulse erasure based on four-wave mixing and cross-phase modulation in a dispersion engineered chalcogenide (As(2)S(3)) rib waveguide. We achieve an erasure efficiency of ~15 dB for picosecond pulses in good agreement with numerical simulations using the nonlinear Schr?dinger equation. The combined effect of the high instantaneous optical nonlinearity (γ = 9900 (W km)(-1)) and small group-velocity dispersion (D = 29 ps/nm km), which reduces pulse walk-off, will enable all-optical pulse erasure for ultrafast signal processing.  相似文献

We investigate the efficient generation of broadband cascaded four-wave mixing products seeded at different wavelengths in photonic crystal fibers, with a high-peak power picosecond pulse pumping in the anomalous dispersion region as well as the normal dispersion regime. Multiple four-wave mixing products with different frequency intervals have been experimentally achieved when pumping in the anomalous dispersion region. Measured results present bandwidths of over 500 nm. We have also experimentally demonstrated that only seeding at the Stokes or anti-Stokes peaks can we get the efficient generation of cascaded four-wave mixing or cascaded stimulated Raman scattering when pumping in the normal dispersion regime.  相似文献

A modified model for wavelength conversion based on the four-wave mixing (FWM) in a silicon micro-ring resonator is presented. Unlike previous contributions, the nonlinear phase shifts caused by self-phase modulation and cross-phase modulation are also taken into account in the present theoretical analysis besides the linear propagation loss and the nonlinear losses caused by two-photon absorption and free-carrier absorption. Analysis shows that the nonlinear phase shifts will cause different red shifts for the pump and signal (or converted) resonant wavelengths, and consequently an additional wavelength difference between the signal transmission dip and the efficiency peak, which will increase/decrease the conversion efficiency of the signal channel far from/near the pump. The conversion efficiency and the conversion peak width of each signal channel are both affected by the micro-ring radius and coupling coefficient. A broader conversion peak width can be obtained by using a micro-ring resonator with a smaller Q factor.  相似文献

Phase-matched four-wave mixing in higher-order modes of microstructure fibers allows unprecedentedly high efficiencies of anti-Stokes frequency conversion to be achieved for subnanojoule femtosecond laser pulses. 70-fs pulses of 790-nm radiation were used to generate an anti-Stokes component at 520-530 nm in a higher-order mode of a microstructure fiber with a 4.8-microm core. The maximum ratio of the anti-Stokes signal energy to the energy of the pump component in the output spectrum is estimated as 1.7.  相似文献

研究了高速色散控制准线性传输系统中的信道内交叉相位调制和信道内四波混频等非线性相互作用,分析了信道内交叉相位调制导致定时抖动和信道内四波混频导致振幅抖动随距离和色散分布强度变化的规律,然后运用快速傅里叶变换法分析了信道内交叉相位调制导致的2^5-1的伪随机码流的定时抖动和振幅抖动及寄生脉冲的产生.证实了理论分析。最后通过数值模拟实现了色散分布强度为127的强色散控制系统中准线性脉冲序列1600km的稳定传输,结论对用标准单模光纤实现高速传输具有重要意义。  相似文献

To investigate the full conversion of pump power to the Stokes waves in stimulated Raman scattering with a single-pass cell, unconverted pump energies have been analyzed in detail in relation to the first Stokes, second Stokes and first anti-Stokes energies. Adoption of a long focusing configuration with a high-pressure cell was found to be effective but insufficient to suppress the four-wave mixing effect, because a small amount of pump energy always remained undepleted. Comparison of the results using pump beams of various spectral and spatial mode characteristics from alexandrite and Nd:YAG lasers revealed that the spatial mode quality was the most critical parameter for full depletion of a pump pulse.  相似文献

The possibilities of efficient four-wave SRS generation in the schemes of cavity and cavity-amplifier SRS converters with the implementation of phase matching conditions for four-wave mixing of different SRS radiation components at an appropriate orientation of birefringent SRS crystals have been considered based on a numerical simulation. The threshold characteristics and achievable energetic parameters of the SRS generation of different frequency radiation components have been analyzed under the conditions of implementation of phase matching for four-wave mixing. Conditions have been found for a low-threshold SRS-four-wave mixing generation of an anti-Stokes wave with a conversion efficiency of up to 40%, as well as of the first, second, and third Stokes SRS components with conversion efficiencies of up to 90, 80, and 30%, respectively.  相似文献

This paper describes the spatial transmission of electromagnetically induced transparency and four-wave mixing signals in the photonic bandgap structure, which are modulated using the adjustable parameters of light fields. The spatial transmission patterns of the relevant signals are experimentally investigated with respect to the optical nonlinear Kerr effect that occurs in the modulation process. The experimental results reveal the spatial transmission patterns of the probe transmission and the four-wave mixing signals, such as focusing, defocusing, shifting, and spatial splitting. This study explains how the tunable parameters of light fields and their interactions with each other can regulate the spatial transmission of the light fields by changing the refractive indices of media, which provides a new research perspective and a degree of experimental technology support for more efficient all-optical communications.  相似文献

本文利用非线性偏振锁模激光器产生的重复频率50 MHz, 脉宽为1.8 ps的脉冲分别抽运外径均匀和色散渐减两种高非线性光子晶体光纤, 在三阶非线性效应 (自相位调制、交叉相位调制、四波混频和受激拉曼散效应等) 和色散共同作用下得到扩展至蓝光部分的超连续谱. 模拟了光谱在色散渐减光纤和均匀光纤中的展宽过程, 通过对比均匀光纤发现色散渐减光纤在调控色散, 加强拉曼孤子和色散波的群速度匹配条件, 产生超带宽光谱方面具有很大优势. 实验利用20 m长的色散渐减光纤, 得到了406.1至671.8 nm的可见光波段增强的较为平坦的超连续谱. 关键词: 超连续谱 色散渐减光子晶体光纤 群速度匹配 非线性效应  相似文献

Phase-matched parametric four-wave mixing in higher-order guided modes of a photonic crystal fiber is shown to result in an efficient decay of 40-fs 800-nm Ti:sapphire laser pump pulses into an anti-Stokes signal with a central wavelength around 590-600 nm and a Stokes signal centered at 1.25 microm. The photonic crystal fiber is designed in such a way as to minimize the group-velocity dispersion at the pump wavelength, phase match the parametric four-wave-mixing process, and reduce the group delay between the pump and the anti-Stokes pulses. The duration of the anti-Stokes pulse under these conditions, as shown by cross-correlation frequency-resolved optical gating measurements, is less than 200 fs.  相似文献

利用高非线性光纤中的交叉相位调制和四波混频分别在仿真中实现了时间透镜. 对基于交叉相位调制的时间透镜中的高非线性光纤中的非线性过程进行了仿真分析. 仿真结果表明, 该时间透镜的主要影响因素为色散、自相位调制与四波混频; 通过采用带有一定色散斜率的高非线性光纤可同时消除色散、自相位调制和四波混频的影响; 另外, 该高非线性光纤的色散零点最好选在信号脉冲和抽运脉冲波长的中心附近. 然后对基于四波混频的时间透镜的实现进行了仿真分析. 仿真结果表明, 该时间透镜的主要影响因素为色散、 自相位调制和其他的四波混频; 通过设定合适大小的信号脉冲和抽运脉冲的功率可消除自相位调制和其他的四波混频的影响; 另外, 通过在高非线性光纤中引入一定的色散可进一步提高信号脉冲和抽运脉冲的功率, 从而获得更高功率的输出脉冲. 最后对两种时间透镜系统做出了比较. 关键词: 光脉冲压缩 时间透镜 交叉相位调制 四波混频  相似文献
