This study concerns the way to describe some physical properties of simple liquids by using the Bogoliubov-Born-Green-Kirkwood-Yvon hierarchy. It constructively analyzes the recent contribution of Sarkisov [G. N. Sarkisov, J. Chem. Phys. 119, 373 (2003)] on the structural behavior of a simple fluid near the liquid-vapor critical point. His work, already compared with computer simulation studies, is here brought into direct contact for the heavier condensed rare gases Ar, Kr, and Xe with (a) experiment and (b) earlier theoretical investigations. Directions for future studies then emerge.  相似文献

Holas and March [Phys. Rev. A. 51, 2040 (1995)] gave a formally exact theory for the exchange-correlation (xc) force F(xc)(r)= -inverted Deltaupsilon(xc)(r) associated with the xc potential upsilon(xc)(r) of the density-functional theory in terms of low-order density matrices. This is shown in the present study to lead, rather directly, to the determination of a sum rule nF(xc)=0 relating the xc force with the ground-state density n(r). Some connection is also made with an earlier result relating to the external potential by Levy and Perdew [Phys. Rev. A. 32, 2010 (1985)] and with the quite recent study of Joubert [J. Chem. Phys. 119, 1916 (2003)] relating to the separation of the exchange and correlation contributions.  相似文献

A numerical method to simulate the dynamics of polymer solutions in confined geometries has been implemented and tested. The method combines a fluctuating lattice-Boltzmann model of the solvent [Ladd, Phys. Rev. Lett. 70, 1339 (1993)] with a point-particle model of the polymer chains. A friction term couples the monomers to the fluid [Ahlrichs and Dunweg, J. Chem. Phys. 111, 8225 (1999)], providing both the hydrodynamic interactions between the monomers and the correlated random forces. The coupled equations for particles and fluid are solved on an inertial time scale, which proves to be surprisingly simple and efficient, avoiding the costly linear algebra associated with Brownian dynamics. Complex confined geometries can be represented by a straightforward mapping of the boundary surfaces onto a regular three-dimensional grid. The hydrodynamic interactions between monomers are shown to compare well with solutions of the Stokes equations down to distances of the order of the grid spacing. Numerical results are presented for the radius of gyration, end-to-end distance, and diffusion coefficient of an isolated polymer chain, ranging from 16 to 1024 monomers in length. The simulations are in excellent agreement with renormalization group calculations for an excluded volume chain. We show that hydrodynamic interactions in large polymers can be systematically coarse-grained to substantially reduce the computational cost of the simulation. Finally, we examine the effects of confinement and flow on the polymer distribution and diffusion constant in a narrow channel. Our results support the qualitative conclusions of recent Brownian dynamics simulations of confined polymers [Jendrejack et al., J. Chem. Phys. 119, 1165 (2003) and Jendrejack et al., J. Chem. Phys. 120, 2513 (2004)].  相似文献

In a previous paper [J. Chem. Phys. 119, 11864 (2003)], we derived a set of two coupled equations which describe electron transfer in the presence of dissipation at high temperature. Employing the low temperature extension of the Fokker-Planck operator, suggested by Haake and Reibold [Phys. Rev. A 32, 2462 (1985)] and Ankerhold [Europhys. Lett. 61, 301 (2003)], we show that one may extend the generalized Zusman equations in a similar manner to low temperature. Numerical simulation shows that addition of the temperature-dependent term which couples the coordinate and momentum causes an increase in the electron transfer rate as compared to the rate obtained from the previous high temperature equations. The increase in the rate comes from the increase in the equilibrium variances of the coordinate and momentum. The low temperature quantum theory allows for higher energy portions of phase space to contribute to the electron transfer rate where the rate is higher thus enhancing the overall rate.  相似文献

Charge-carrier (electron and hole) mobilities of polyguanylic acid have been computed using the deformation-potential approximation from ab initio Hartree-Fock band structure. Mobilities resulting from electron scattering on torsional acoustic phonons are calculated and compared to those obtained from a previous calculation [F. B. Beleznay et al., J. Chem. Phys. 119, 5690 (2003)] considering interaction with compressional phonons. The simultaneous effect of the two independent scatterings is also calculated.  相似文献

The excess Helmholtz free energy functional is formulated in terms of a modified fundamental measure theory [Y. X. Yu and J. Z. Wu, J. Chem. Phys. 117, 10156 (2002)] for a short ranged repulsion and a first-order mean-spherical approximation theory [Y. P. Tang, J. Chem. Phys. 118, 4140 (2003)] for a long ranged attraction. Within the framework of the density functional theory, the density profile, excess adsorption, solvation force, and plate-fluid interfacial tension of a Lennard-Jones fluid confined in slit pores are predicted, and the results agree well with the simulation data. The phase equilibria inside the slit pores are determined according to the requirement that temperature, chemical potential, and grand potential in coexistence phases should be equal, and the plate-fluid interfacial tensions at equilibrium states are predicted consequently.  相似文献

In an effort to generalize the self-consistent Ornstein-Zernike approximation (SCOZA)-an accurate liquid state theory that has been restricted so far to hard core systems-to arbitrary soft core systems we study a combination of SCOZA with a recently developed perturbation theory. The latter was constructed by Ben-Amotz and Stell [J. Phys. Chem. B 108, 6877 (2004)] as a reformulation of the Weeks-Chandler-Andersen [J. Chem. Phys. 54, 5237 (1971)] perturbation theory directly in terms of an arbitrary hard sphere reference system. We investigate the accuracy of the combined approach for the Lennard-Jones fluid in comparison with simulation data and pure perturbation theory predictions and determine the dependence of the thermodynamic properties and the phase behavior on the choice of the effective hard core diameter of the reference system.  相似文献

One bound state for the very weakly interacting complex of H(2) with one He atom is computed using a recently obtained, very accurate potential energy surface [A. I. Boothroyd and P. G. Martin, J. Chem. Phys. 119, 3187 (2003)] and employing a discrete variable representation expansion. The spatial features of this very diffused, "halo" state are analyzed and discussed for various isotopic variants of the title system.  相似文献

We develop a new density-functional approach combining physical insight from chemical structure with treatment of multi-reference character by real-space modeling of the exchange-correlation hole. We are able to recover, for the first time, correct fractional-charge and fractional-spin behaviour for atoms of groups 1 and 2. Based on Becke's non-dynamical correlation functional [A. D. Becke, J. Chem. Phys. 119, 2972 (2003)] and explicitly accounting for core-valence separation and pairing effects, this method is able to accurately describe dissociation and strong correlation in s-shell many-electron systems.  相似文献

It is shown that spin-component-scaled second order M?ller-Plesset theory proposed by Grimme [J. Chem. Phys. 118, 9095 (2003)] can be interpreted as a two-parameter scaling of the zero order Hamiltonian, a generalization of the approach reported by Feenberg [Phys. Rev. 103, 1116 (1956)].  相似文献

A modified version of a previously elaborated multiconfiguration perturbation theory (MCPT) [Rolik et al. J. Chem. Phys. 119, 1922 (2003)] is presented. In the modified formulation size consistency is ensured at second order in energy, by omitting projectors from the zero order Hamiltonian operator. This MCPT formulation is abbreviated as SC2-MCPT (size consistent at second order). To ensure proper separability, we also require that energy denominators are constructed as differences of some one-particle energies. A similar choice for energy denominators also renders the well-known multireference Moller-Plesset (MRMP) energy size consistent at second order. The same thing applies to the related multireference perturbation theory by Witek, Nakano, and Hirao.  相似文献

We introduce an expansion of the equation of state for additive hard-sphere mixtures in powers of the total packing fraction with coefficients which depend on a set of weighted densities used in scaled particle theory and fundamental measure theory. We demand that the mixture equation of state recovers the quasiexact Carnahan-Starling [J. Chem. Phys. 51, 635 (1969)] result in the case of a one-component fluid and show from thermodynamic considerations and consistency with an exact scaled particle relation that the first and second orders of the expansion lead unambiguously to the Boublik-Mansoori-Carnahan-Starling-Leland [J. Chem. Phys. 53, 471 (1970); J. Chem. Phys. 54, 1523 (1971)] equation and the extended Carnahan-Starling equation introduced by Santos et al. [Mol. Phys. 96, 1 (1999)]. In the third order of the expansion, our approach allows us to define a new equation of state for hard-sphere mixtures which we find to be more accurate than the former equations when compared to available computer simulation data for binary and ternary mixtures. Using the new mixture equation of state, we calculate expressions for the surface tension and excess adsorption of the one-component fluid at a planar hard wall and compare its predictions to available simulation data.  相似文献

In this paper we present an efficient parallelization of the ONX algorithm for linear computation of the Hartree-Fock exchange matrix [J. Chem. Phys. 106, 9708 (1997)]. The method used is based on the equal time (ET) partitioning recently introduced [J. Chem. Phys. 118, 9128 (2003)] and [J. Chem. Phys. 121, 6608 (2004)]. ET exploits the slow variation of the density matrix between self-consistent-field iterations to achieve load balance. The method is presented and some benchmark calculations are discussed for gas phase and periodic systems with up to 128 processors. The current parallel ONX code is able to deliver up to 77% overall efficiency for a cluster of 50 water molecules on 128 processors (2.56 processors per heavy atom) and up to 87% for a box of 64 water molecules (two processors per heavy atom) with periodic boundary conditions.  相似文献

Molecular dynamics simulations have been used to investigate the thermodynamic melting point of the crystalline nitromethane, the melting mechanism of superheated crystalline nitromethane, and the physical properties of crystalline and glassy nitromethane. The maximum superheating and glass transition temperatures of nitromethane are calculated to be 316 and 160 K, respectively, for heating and cooling rates of 8.9 x 10(9) Ks. Using the hysteresis method [Luo et al., J. Chem. Phys. 120, 11640 (2004)] and by taking the glass transition temperature as the supercooling temperature, we calculate a value of 251.1 K for the thermodynamic melting point, which is in excellent agreement with the two-phase result [Agrawal et al., J. Chem. Phys. 119, 9617 (2003)] of 255.5 K and measured value of 244.73 K. In the melting process, the nitromethane molecules begin to rotate about their lattice positions in the crystal, followed by translational freedom of the molecules. A nucleation mechanism for the melting is illustrated by the distribution of the local translational order parameter. The critical values of the Lindemann index for the C and N atoms immediately prior to melting (the Lindemann criterion) are found to be around 0.155 at 1 atm. The intramolecular motions and molecular structure of nitromethane undergo no abrupt changes upon melting, indicating that the intramolecular degrees of freedom have little effect on the melting. The thermal expansion coefficient and bulk modulus are predicted to be about two or three times larger in crystalline nitromethane than in glassy nitromethane. The vibrational density of states is almost identical in both phases.  相似文献

The problem of transport in quasi-one-dimensional periodic structures has been studied recently by several groups [D. Reguera et al., Phys. Rev. Lett.96, 130603 (2006); P. S. Burada et al., Phys. Rev. E75, 051111 (2007); B. Q. Ai and L. G. Liu, ibid.74, 051114 (2006); B. Q. Ai et al., ibid.75, 061126 (2007); B. Q. Ai and L. G. Liu, J. Chem. Phys.126, 204706 (2007); 128, 024706 (2008); E. Yariv and K. D. Dorfman, Phys. Fluids19, 037101 (2007); N. Laachi et al., Europhys. Lett.80, 50009 (2007); A. M. Berezhkovskii et al., J. Chem. Phys.118, 7146 (2003); 119, 6991 (2003)]. Using the concept of "entropy barrier" [R. Zwanzig, J. Phys. Chem.96, 3926 (1992)] one can classify such structures based on the height of the entropy barrier. Structures with high barriers are formed by chambers, which are weakly connected with each other because they are connected by small apertures. To escape from such a chamber a diffusing particle has to climb a high entropy barrier to find an exit that takes a lot of time [I. V. Grigoriev et al., J. Chem. Phys.116, 9574 (2002)]. As a consequence, the particle intrachamber lifetime tau(esc) is much larger than its intrachamber equilibration time, tau(rel), tau(esc)>tau(rel). When the aperture is not small enough, the intrachamber escape and relaxation times are of the same order and the hierarchy fails. This is the case of low entropy barriers. Transport in this case is analyzed in the works of Schmid and co-workers, Liu and co-workers, and Dorfman and co-workers, while the work of Berezhkovskii et al. is devoted to diffusion in the case of high entropy barriers.  相似文献

A new semiempirical exchange-Coulomb model potential energy surface for the N(2)-He interaction was reported recently [A. K. Dham et al., J. Chem. Phys. 127, 054302 (2007)] and, using it, the temperature dependence of bulk gas properties of N(2)-He mixtures, such as the second virial coefficient and traditional transport phenomena, most of which depend primarily on the isotropic component of the interaction potential energy surface, was determined. Values of these properties, along with values calculated using two high-quality ab initio potential energy surfaces [C.-H. Hu and A. J. Thakkar, J. Chem. Phys. 104, 2541 (1996); K. Patel et al., ibid 119, 909 (2003)] were compared critically to available experimental data. The present paper reports on the ability of the same three potential energy surfaces to predict state-to-state and total differential cross sections, total integral cross sections, and the temperature dependence of bulk gas relaxation phenomena (including magnetic field effects on transport coefficients). While all three potential energy surfaces give total differential and higher speed integral scattering results that fall within the experimental uncertainties, integral scattering results and state-to-state differential cross section measurements consistently exceed the calculated values. All three surfaces give similar agreement with the relaxation properties of N(2)-He binary mixtures, with the semiempirical exchange-Coulomb model potential energy surface giving slightly better overall agreement with experiment than the two ab initio potential energy surfaces.  相似文献

The thermodynamic properties of pressure, energy, isothermal pressure coefficient, thermal expansion coefficient, isothermal and adiabatic compressibilities, isobaric and isochoric heat capacities, Joule-Thomson coefficient, and speed of sound are considered in a classical molecular dynamics ensemble. These properties were obtained using the treatment of Lustig [J. Chem. Phys. 100, 3048 (1994)] and Meier and Kabelac [J. Chem. Phys. 124, 064104 (2006)], whereby thermodynamic state variables are expressible in terms of phase-space functions determined directly from molecular dynamics simulations. The complete thermodynamic information about an equilibrium system can be obtained from this general formalism. We apply this method to the gaussian core model fluid because the complex phase behavior of this simple model provides a severe test for this treatment. Waterlike and other anomalies are observed for some of the thermodynamic properties of the gaussian core model fluid.  相似文献

Kwac and Cho [J. Chem. Phys. 119, 2247 (2003)] have recently developed a combined electronic structure/molecular dynamics approach to vibrational spectroscopy in liquids. The method involves fitting ab initio vibrational frequencies for a solute in a cluster of solvent molecules to a linear combination of the electrostatic potentials on the solute atoms due to the charges on the solvent molecules. These authors applied their method to the N-methylacetamide-D/D(2)O system. We (S. A. Corcelli, C. P. Lawrence, and J. L. Skinner, [J. Chem. Phys. 120, 8107 (2004)]) have recently explored a closely related method, where instead of the electrostatic potential, the solute vibrational frequencies are fit to the components of the electric fields on the solute atoms due to the solvent molecules. We applied our method to the HOD/D(2)O and HOD/H(2)O systems. In order to make a direct comparison of these two approaches, in this paper we apply their method to the water system, and our method to the N-methylacetamide system. For the water system we find that the electric field method is superior to the potential approach, as judged by comparison with experiments for the absorption line shape. For the N-methylacetamide system the two methods are comparable.  相似文献

We study the direct correlation function (DCF) of a classical fluid mixture of nonspherical molecules. The components of the mixture are two types of hard ellipsoidal molecules with different elongations, interacting through the hard Gaussian overlap (HGO) model. Two different approaches are used to calculate the DCFs of this fluid, and the results are compared. Here, the Pynn approximation [J. Chem. Phys. 60, 4579 (1974)] is extended to calculate the DCF of the binary mixtures of HGO molecules, then we use a formalism based on the weighted density functional theory introduced by Chamoux and Perera [J. Chem. Phys. 104, 1493 (1996)]. These results are fairly in agreement with each other. The pressure of this system is also calculated using the Fourier zero components of the DCF. The results are in agreement with the Monte Carlo molecular simulation.  相似文献
