Using Auslander’s G-dimension, we assign a numerical invariant to any group Γ. It provides a refinement of the cohomological dimension and fits well into the well-known hierarchy of dimensions assigned already to Γ. We study this dimension and show its power in reflecting the properties of the underlying group. We also discuss its connections to relative and Tate cohomology of groups.  相似文献

Let p be an odd prime. Let be the fibre space induced from an H-map where K is a generalized Eilenberg MacLane space and X is a simply connected H-space. Such spaces occur frequently in Postnikov towers and connective covers. In this paper, we compute the mod p cohomology of as a ring. The ring depends on the structure of imf* and the structure of subkerf* as modules over the Steenrod algebra.  相似文献

We show how topological André-Quillen homology can be related to the usual algebraic André-Quillen homology. To this end we construct an Atiyah-Hirzebruch spectral sequence starting with the algebraic version and converging to the topological theory. This determines topological André-Quillen homology in classical cases of étale and smooth algebras.  相似文献

In this paper we define a cohomology theory for an arbitrary K-linear semistrict semigroupal 2-category (called for short a Gray semigroup) and show that its first-order (unitary) deformations, up to the suitable notion of equivalence, are in bijection with the elements of the second cohomology group. Fundamental to the construction is a double complex, similar to the Gerstenhaber-Schack double complex for bialgebras, the role of the multiplication and the comultiplication being now played by the composition and the tensor product of 1-morphisms. We also identify the cohomologies describing separately the deformations of the tensor product, the associator and the pentagonator. To obtain the above results, a cohomology theory for an arbitrary K-linear (unitary) pseudofunctor is introduced describing its purely pseudofunctorial deformations, and generalizing Yetter's cohomology for semigroupal functors (in: M. Kapranov, E. Getzler (Eds.), Higher Category Theory, AMS Contemporary Mathematics, Vol. 230, Amer. Math. Soc., Providence, RI, 1998, pp. 117-134). The corresponding higher order obstructions will be considered in detail in a future paper.  相似文献

Following tecniques proposed by A. V. Khazikhov and V. A. Weigant in 1995, we prove the global, with respect to time, existence and uniqueness of the solution to the Navier-Stokes equations for a compressible, viscous and barotropic fluid which moves on the surface of a sphere. In obtaining the main estimates we make use of the Hodge decomposition and the generalized potential theory due to K. Kodaira.

We prove that there are precisely six equational theories E of groupoids with the property that every term is E-equivalent to a unique linear term. Presented by J. Berman. In this article the incompressible limits of weak solutions to the governing equations for magnetohydrodynamics flows on both bounded and unbounded domains are established. The governing equations for magnetohydrodynamic flows are expressed by the full Navier-Stokes system for compressible fluids enhanced by forces due to the presence of the magnetic field as well as the gravity and with an additional equation which describes the evolution of the magnetic field. The scaled analogues of the governing equations for magnetohydrodynamic flows involve the Mach number, Froude number and Alfven number. In the case of bounded domains the establishment of the singular limit relies on a detail analysis of the eigenvalues of the acoustic operator, whereas the case of unbounded domains is being treated by their suitable approximation by a family of bounded domains and the derivation of uniform bounds.  相似文献

Let R be a commutative Noetherian ring of Krull dimension d, and let a be an ideal of R. In this paper, we will study the strong cotorsioness and the Gorenstein injectivity of the section functor Γa(−) in local cohomology. As applications, we will find new characterizations for Gorenstein and regular local rings. We also study the effect of the section functors Γa(−) and the functors on the Auslander and Bass classes.  相似文献

For a homological functor from a triangulated category to an abelian category satisfying some technical assumptions, we construct a tower of interpolation categories. These are categories over which the functor factorizes and which capture more and more information according to the injective dimension of the images of the functor. The categories are obtained by using truncated versions of resolution model structures. Examples of functors fitting in our framework are given by every generalized homology theory represented by a ring spectrum satisfying the Adams-Atiyah condition. The constructions are closely related to the modified Adams spectral sequence and give a very conceptual approach to the associated moduli problem and obstruction theory. As an application, we establish an isomorphism between certain E(n)-local Picard groups and some Ext-groups.  相似文献

An explicit coloring of the edges of Kn is constructed such that every copy of K4 has at least four colors on its edges. As n , the number of colors used is n1/2+o(1). This improves upon the previous bound of O(n2/3) due to Erds and Gyárfás obtained by probabilistic methods. The exponent 1/2 is optimal, since it is known that at least (n1/2) colors are required in such a coloring.The coloring is related to constructions giving lower bounds for the multicolor Ramsey number rk(C4). In [D. Quillen, On the (co)homology of commutative rings, Proc. Symp. Pure Math. 17 (1970) 65-87; L. Avramov, Locally complete intersection homomorphisms and a conjecture of Quillen on the vanishing of cotangent homology, Annals of Math. 2 (150) (1999) 455-487] a conjecture was posed to the effect that if RA is a homomorphism of Noetherian commutative rings then the flat dimension, as defined in the derived category of A-modules, of the associated cotangent complex LA/R satisfies: . The aim of this paper is to initiate an approach for solving this conjecture when R has characteristic 2 using simplicial algebra techniques. To that end, we obtain two results. First, we prove that the conjecture can be reframed in terms of certain nilpotence properties for the divided square γ2 and the André operation ? as it acts on TorR(A,?), ? any residue field of A. Second, we prove the conjecture is valid in two cases: when and when R is a Cohen-Macaulay ring.  相似文献

It is proved that the sum of the Loewy lengths of the homology modules of a finite free complex F over a local ring R is bounded below by a number depending only on R. This result uncovers, in the structure of modules of finite projective dimension, obstructions to realizing R as a closed fiber of some flat local homomorphism. Other applications include, as special cases, uniform proofs of known results on free actions of elementary abelian groups and of tori on finite CW complexes. The arguments use numerical invariants of objects in general triangulated categories, introduced here and called levels. They allow one to track, through changes of triangulated categories, homological invariants like projective dimension, as well as structural invariants like Loewy length. An intermediate result sharpens, with a new proof, the New Intersection Theorem for commutative algebras over fields. Under additional hypotheses on the ring R stronger estimates are proved for Loewy lengths of modules of finite projective dimension.  相似文献

In this survey paper, the author examines nonlinear Volterra integral equations of the second kind with solutions that blow-up or quench. The focus is on analytical results, although a few words about numerical solutions for such equations are provided. The integral equations arise in the mathematical modeling of thermal processes within a reactive–diffusive medium. The scope of this review is on the published literature between 1997 and 2005, serving as an update to a previous review by the same author.  相似文献

Over-determined systems of partial differential equations may be studied using differential—elimination algorithms, as a great deal of information about the solution set of the system may be obtained from the output. Unfortunately, many systems are effectively intractable by these methods due to the expression swell incurred in the intermediate stages of the calculations. This can happen when, for example, the input system depends on many variables and is invariant under a large rotation group, so that there is no natural choice of term ordering in the elimination and reduction processes. This paper describes how systems written in terms of the differential invariants of a Lie group action may be processed in a manner analogous to differential—elimination algorithms. The algorithm described terminates and yields, in a sense which we make precise, a complete set of representative invariant integrability conditions which may be calculated in a ``critical pair' completion procedure. Further, we discuss some of the profound differences between algebras of differential invariants and standard differential algebras. We use the new, regularized moving frame method of Fels and Olver [11], [12] to write a differential system in terms of the invariants of a symmetry group. The methods described have been implemented as a package in \MAPLE. The main example discussed is the analysis of the (2+1 )-d'Alembert—Hamilton system u_{xx}+u_{yy}- u_{zz}&=& f(u), u_x^2+u_y^2- u_z^2&=&1. The main goal of this paper is to measure the defect of Cohen–Macaulay, Gorenstein, complete intersection and regularity for the tensor product of algebras over a ring. For this sake, we determine the homological invariants which are inherent to these notions, such as the Krull dimension, depth, injective dimension, type and embedding dimension of the tensor product constructions in terms of those of their components. Our results allow to generalize various theorems in this topic especially [4, Theorem 2.1], [21, Theorem 6] and [14, Theorems 1 and 2] as well as two Grothendieck's theorems on the transfer of Cohen–Macaulayness and regularity to tensor products over a field issued from finite field extensions. To prove our theorems on the defect of complete intersection and regularity, the homology theory introduced by André and Quillen for commutative rings turns out to be an adequate and efficient tool in this respect.  相似文献
