The morphology and crystallization behavior of blends of polypropylene (PP) and an ethylene-based thermoplastic elastomer (TPO) were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The SEM images showed a two-phase morphology for these blends. As TPO was partially crystalline, two distinct peaks were observed in both heating and cooling scans of DSC. The crystallization temperature of TPO in blends was higher than pure TPO. In contrast, the crystallization temperature of PP in blends was lower than pure PP. The crystallization behavior of blends was modeled by Avrami equation. It was observed that the presence of TPO accelerated the growth rate of crystals of PP in PP/TPO blends.  相似文献

Multiple melting behavior of poly(butylene succinate)   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The multiple melting behavior of poly(butylenes succinate) (PBS) isothermally crystallized from the melt was investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), temperature modulated DSC (MDSC) and polarized optical microscopy. PBS exhibits at most four melting endotherms (denoted as Tm1, Tm2, Tm3, and Tm4 from high to low temperatures) and a crystallization exotherm (denoted as Tre) in the DSC heating trace. Multiple melting endotherms were observed even at high heating rates. The origins of each endothermal and exothermal peak were discussed in detail. It is suggested that: (i) the crystallization exothermic peak, Tre, relates to the recrystallization of the melt of the crystallites with lower thermal stability; (ii) the Tm1 is ascribed to the melting of crystallites formed through recrystallization; (iii) two crystal populations with different thermal stability are responsible for the Tm2 and Tm3; (iv) the Tm4, which is the annealing peak, represents the transition of the rigid amorphous fraction (RAF) from solid-like RAF into liquid-like amorphous fraction.  相似文献

The influence of the order of polymer melt on the subsequent crystallization and melting has been carefully studied. The experimental data show that the order of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) melt decreases with increases in the fusion temperature. For an iPP sample isothermally crystallized at 130 °C for half an hour, the degree of order of melt is higher when the fusion temperature is lower than about 170.5 °C, hence the lamellae formed in a rapid cooling process are perfect. If the fusion temperature is not higher than 167 °C, some thicker lamellae can exist in the melt. The melting of these unmelted lamellae and those lamellae recrystallized in the cooling process result in double endotherms. On the other hand, when the fusion temperature is higher than 170.5 °C, the order of the iPP melt decreases greatly; thus, the lamellae formed in the following cooling process are imperfect. At a lower heating rate, the recrystallization or reorganization of these imperfect lamellae also leads to double melting endotherms. Received: June 16, 2000 Accepted: October 16, 2000  相似文献

Linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) was grafted onto the backbone chains of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) during reactive melt-extrusion to produce a novel toughening modifier, propylene/ethylene graft copolymer (PEGC), to improve the properties of iPP random(-copolymerized with a small amount of ethylene) (PPR). The crystallization behavior as well as the non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of the PEGC modified PPRs were investigated via differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized optical microscopy (POM) and wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD). The fractured surface topography was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the mechanical properties through notched impact and tensile testing as well as dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA). The results show that, at a PEGC content of 8 wt%, notched impact strength of the PEGC modified PPR increased by 30.6% at low temperature (−25 °C). As regards crystalline morphology, the PEGC, as an effective heterogeneous nucleating agent, fostered nucleation of the PPR to elevate its crystallization temperature as well as rate of crystallization, thus refining the PPR (iPP) spherulites and improving the interfacial structure between iPP spherulites. The Jeziorny approach was unsatisfactory for simulation of the non-isothermal crystallization process of the PEGC modified PPRs; however, the Mo method described consistently the crystallization kinetics over the entire isothermal process.  相似文献

The isothermal crystallization kinetics and melting behavior of poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) in binary blends with poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) was investigated as a function of PCL molecular mass by differential scanning calorimetry and optical microscopy. The components are miscible in the melt when oligomeric PCL (Mw = 1250) is blended with PBT, whereas only partial miscibility was found in mixtures with higher molecular mass (Mw = 10,000 and 50,000). The equilibrium melting point of PBT in the homopolymer and in blends with PCL was determined through a non-linear extrapolation of the Tm = f(Tc) curve. The PBT spherulitic growth rate and bulk crystallization rate were found to increase with respect to plain PBT in blends with PCL1250 and PCL10000, whereas addition of PCL50000 causes a reduction of PBT solidification rate. The crystallization induction times were determined by differential scanning calorimetry for all the mixtures through a blank subtraction procedure that allows precise estimation of the crystallization kinetics of fast crystallizing polymers. The results have been discussed on the basis of the Hoffman-Lauritzen crystallization theory and considerations on both the transport of chains towards the crystalline growth front and the energy barrier for the formation of critical nuclei in miscible and partially miscible PBT/PCL mixtures are widely debated.  相似文献

The crystallization and melting behavior of bisphenol A polycarbonate treated with supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2) has been investigated with differential scanning calorimetry. Supercritical CO2 depresses the crystallization temperature (Tc) of polycarbonate (PC). The lower melting point of PC crystals increase nonlinearly with increasing treatment temperature. This indicates that the depression of Tc is not a constant at the same pressure. Tc decreases faster at a higher treatment temperature than at a lower temperature. The leveling off of the depression in Tc at higher pressures is due to the antiplasticization effect of the hydrostatic pressure of CO2. The melting curves of PC show two melting endotherms. The lower melting peak moves to a higher temperature with increasing treatment temperature, pressure, and time. The higher temperature peak moves toward a higher temperature as the treatment temperature is increased, whereas this peak is independent of the treatment pressure, time, and heating rate. The double melting peaks observed for PC can be attributed to the melting of crystals with different stability mechanisms. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, a series of monodispersed poly(L-lactide)(PLLA) were synthesized by the ring-opening polymerization with Schiff base aluminum catalyst, and the effects of the number-average molecular weight(Mn) on the crystallization and melting behaviors of PLLA were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and wide-angle X-ray diffraction(WAXD). The total crystallization rate of PLLA was Mn-dependent, which reached the maximum value for PLLA with Mn of 18.6 kg/mol. In addition, when Mn of PLLA was 18.6 kg/mol, the melting enthalpy(ΔHm) showed a maximum value(87.1 J/g), which was the highest reported value till now. The critical temperature for change of crystal formation from ?-form to ?-form crystals increased in the isothermal crystallization process with Mn increasing. In the reheating procedure, high-Mn PLLA demonstrated a small exothermal peak prior to the dominant melting peak, corresponding to crystal transition from ?- to ?-form, but low-Mn PLLA didn't show the peak of crystal transition. These different crystallization and melting behaviors were attributed to the different chain mobility of PLLA with different Mn.  相似文献

An investigation of the thermodynamical properties of polytridecanolactone (PTDL) was made with the aid of a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). PTDL is a linear polyester and belongs to the polylactones, which have been poorly investigated. In this paper we contribute with specific heat capacity in the range 180-400 K, and melting and glass transition characteristics. Further, we present unique results corresponding to the effect of different cooling rates on crystallization temperatures and crystallization energies. PTDL has a melting temperature of 350 K, and a glass transition at about 237 K. The crystallization results show that PTDL crystallizes easily, with a crystallization degree of about 80%. In addition, the crystallization energy decreases with increasing cooling rate, and levels out at a constant value at higher cooling rates. The crystallization temperature, on the other hand, shows an increasing sensitivity of cooling rate, where the supercooling is increasing more rapidly at higher cooling rates. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Binary blends of polypropylene (PP)/recycled poly(ethylene terephthalate) (r-PET), r-PET/maleic anhydride grafted PP (PP-g-MA), r-PET/glycidyl methacrylate grafted PP (PP-g-GMA), and ternary blends of PP/r-PET (80/20 w/w) compatibilized with various amounts (2-10 wt%) of PP-g-MA or PP-g-GMA were prepared on a twin-screw extruder. The non-isothermal crystallization and melting behavior, and the crystallization morphology were investigated by DSC and POM. The chemical reactions of r-PET with PP-g-MA and PP-g-GMA were characterized by FT-IR. DSC results show that the crystallization peak temperatures of r-PET and PP increased when blending them together, due to the heterogeneous nucleation effect on each other. The of r-PET increased with increasing the content of PP-g-MA while slightly influenced by the content of PP-g-GMA in the binary blends of r-PET with grafted PP, implying different reactivity of r-PET with PP-g-MA and PP-g-GMA. The of PP in the ternary blends retained or slightly decreased, dependent on the compatibilizers and their contents. The melting peak temperature of r-PET in PP/r-PET blends compatibilized by PP-g-MA was lower than that of compatibilized by PP-g-GMA, indicating that PP-g-MA had stronger reactivity towards r-PET compared to PP-g-GMA. The crystallization and melting behavior of blends was influenced by the pre-melting temperature, especially the melting behavior of r-PET in the blends. The crystallization behavior of PP in the blends was also evaluated by Mo’s method. POM confirmed the heterogeneous nucleation effect of r-PET on PP.  相似文献

The multiple melting behavior of several commercial resins of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) and random copolymer, poly(propylene-co-ethylene) (PPE), after stepwise isothermal crystallization (SIC) were studied by differential scanning calorimeter and wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD). For iPP samples, three typical melting endotherms appeared after SIC process when heating rate was lower than 10 °C/min. The WAXD experiments proved that only α-form crystal was formed during SIC process and no transition from α1- to α2-form occurred during heating process. Heating rate dependence for each endotherm was discussed and it was concluded that there were only two major crystals with different thermal stability. For the PPE sample, more melting endotherms appeared after stepwise isothermal crystallization. The introduction of ethylene comonomer in isotactic propylene backbone further decreased the regularity of molecular chain, and the short isotactic propylene sequences could crystallize into γ-form crystal having a low melting temperature whereas the long sequences crystallized into α-form crystal having high melting temperature.  相似文献

A new simple method of evaluating non-isothermal crystallization kinetics is proposed. The procedure based on mathematical treatment of DSC cumulative crystallization curves at their inflection point provides three kinetic parameters: temperature of start of crystallization (Ts), temperature of maximum crystallization rate (Ti) and numerical value of the maximum crystallization rate (si), and also final crystallinity after cooling (CRc). The method is demonstrated on the system poly(ɛ-caprolactone)/poly(lactic acid)/clay C15 and related microfibrillar composite. The method provides the values of Ts and Ti with standard deviation σ = 0.3 and 0.4 °C, respectively. The coefficient of variation v of si and CRc is 5.8 and 1.5%, respectively. The proposed method does not refer to any crystallization model and does not require exact determination of the starting time. It is particularly useful for characterizing a series of samples derived by modification of the neat polymer.  相似文献

The triple melting behavior and lamellar morphologies of isotactic polystyrene isothermally crystallized from the glassy state have been investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), temperature-modulated DSC and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The combination of thermal analysis measurements and morphological observations indicates that: (1) The lowest endothermic peak, the so-called “annealing peak” (Ta), is not associated with the melting of the subsidiary crystals formed by secondary crystallization as often suggested in the literature, but probably with a constrained interphase between the amorphous and crystalline regions; (2) Within spherulites two lamellar populations with different degrees of perfection (or thermal stability) are confirmed by direct TEM observations following partial melting experiments, which are responsible for the so-called double melting peaks (Tm,1 and Tm,2) at higher temperatures observed in DSC curves; (3) The highest endothermic peak (Tm,2) is partially originated from the melting of the recrystallized lamellae formed during heating process in DSC.  相似文献

Polyethylene/montmorillonite (PE/MMT) nanocomposites, one intercalated sample with higher MMT content and one exfoliated sample with lower MMT content, were prepared by in situ polymerization using MMT-supported metallocene as catalyst. Non-isothermal crystallization behaviors of these two nanocomposites were investigated and compared. The exfoliated sample exhibits higher crystallization temperature (Tc) than the neat PE, showing nucleation effect of MMT. The intercalated sample has lower Tc than the neat PE due to the confinement of MMT. It is observed that the intercalated sample has longer induction period and faster overall crystallization rate, indicating co-existence of suppression and nucleation effects in this sample. The Avrami plots show that the crystal growth of PE in the intercalated sample is two-dimensional, while it is three-dimensional in the exfoliated sample. The crystallization activation energy of the intercalated sample is slightly smaller than that of the exfoliated sample.  相似文献

The crystallization behaviors of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) and its blends with thermoelastomers have been investigated with in situ X‐ray scattering and optic microscopy. At quiescent condition, the crystallization kinetics of iPP is not affected by the presence of elastomers; while determined by the viscosity, the differences are observed on sheared samples. With a fixed shear strain, the crystallization rate increases with increasing the shear rate. The fraction of oriented lamellar crystals in blends is higher than that in pure iPP sample, while the percentage of β phase is reduced by the presence of the elastomers. On the basis of experimental results, no direct correlation among the fraction of oriented lamellae, the percentage of β phase, and growth rate can be deduced. The evolution of the fraction of oriented lamellae supports that shear field promotes nucleation rather than growth process. Shear flow induces the formation of nuclei not only with preferring orientation but also with random orientation. The total density of nuclei, which determines the crystallization kinetics, does not control the ratio between nuclei with and without preferring orientation, which determines the fraction of oriented lamellae. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polypropylene/ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (PP/EPDM) blends in situ compatibilized by magnesium dimethacrylate (MDMA) were fabricated via peroxide-induced dynamic vulcanization. Scanning electron microscope observation indicated that the size of cross-linked EPDM particles decreased with incorporation of MDMA. Polarizing Optical Microscope (POM) analysis suggested that the spherulite size of PP phase decreased sharply with incorporation of MDMA during dynamic vulcanization. The Pseudo-Avrami, Ozawa and Mo's models were applied to analyze the non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of the composites. The analyzed data indicated that the crosslinked EPDM particles and homopolymerized MDMA acted as heterogeneous nucleating agents, which enhanced the crystallizability and decreased the spherulite size of the PP phase. In addition, the non-isothermal crystallization activation energy (ΔE) was calculated through the Kissinger and Friedman methods, and the ΔE value was found increase with incorporation of MDMA.

The crystallization, melting behavior, and morphology of Polypropylene (PP) and PP/Novolac blends were studied by scanning electron microscopy, wide angle X‐ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, and polarized optical microscope. The results showed that the crystallization of PP in PP/Novolac blends was strongly influenced by crystallization temperature, particles size of Novolac, crosslinking, and compatibilizer maleic anhydride‐grafted PP. The Novolac resin could not only affect the crystal structure, but also acted as effective nucleating agents, accelerating the crystallization of PP in the PP/Novolac blends. And the smaller the Novolac particles were, the more effective were the nucleating agent for PP crystallization. Avrami equation was used to analyze the isothermal crystallization kinetics of PP and PP/Novolac blends. The influences of curing and compatibilizer on the crystallization behavior of PP were rather complicated. The crystallization thermodynamics were estimated using the Hoffman theory. The incorporation of cured Novolac and compatibilizer evidently decreased the chain folding energy of PP. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 44: 3288–3303, 2006  相似文献

The multiple melting behavior of poly(butylene succinate) (PBSu) was studied with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Three different PBSu resins, with molecular weights (MWs) of 1.1 × 105, 1.8 × 105, and 2.5 × 105, were isothermally crystallized at various crystallization temperatures (Tc) ranging from 70 to 97.5 °C. The Tc dependence of crystallization half‐time (τ) was obtained. DSC melting curves for the isothermally crystallized samples were obtained at a heating rate of 10 K min−1. Three endothermic peaks, an annealing peak, a low‐temperature peak L, and a high‐temperature peak H, and an exothermic peak located between peaks L and H clearly appeared in the DSC curve. In addition, an endothermic small peak S appeared at a lower temperature of peak H. Peak L increased with increasing Tc, whereas peak H decreased. The Tc dependence of the peak melting temperatures [Tm(L) and Tm(H)], recrystallization temperature (Tre), and heat of fusion (ΔH) was obtained. Their fitting curves were obtained as functions of Tc. Tm(L), Tre, and ΔH increased almost linearly with Tc, whereas Tm(H) was almost constant. The maximum rate of recrystallization occurred immediately after the melting. The mechanism of the multiple melting behavior is explained by the melt‐recrystallization model. The high MW samples showed similar Tc dependence of τ, and τ for the lowest MW sample was longer than that for the others. Peak L increased with MW, whereas peak H decreased. In spite of the difference of MW, Tm(L), Tm(H), and Tre almost coincided with each other at the same Tc. The ΔH values, that is crystallinity, for the highest MW sample were smaller than those for the other samples at the same Tc. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A microthermal analysis (μTA) method with an ultrahigh heating rate was applied to a zone‐drawn isotactic polypropylene fiber to evaluate the melting behaviors inherent to the microstructural changes occurring during the drawing process. The μTA melting point decreased with a reduction in the melting temperature because of the suppression of crystal reorganization and increased with an increase in the melting temperature because of the suppression of the relief of the orientation of the molecular chains, in comparison with the conventional melting point obtained by traditional differential scanning calorimetry. This study examined a convenient and powerful method for investigating the melting behavior for polymeric materials inherent to the original microstructure with less influence from thermal‐measurement heating. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Nonisothermal crystallization and melting behavior of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) and maleated PHB were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry using various cooling rates. The results show that the crystallization behavior of maleated PHB from the melt greatly depends on cooling rates and its degree of grafting. With the increase in cooling rate, the crystallization process for PHB and maleated PHB begins at lower temperature. For maleated PHB, the introduction of maleic anhydride group hinders its crystallization, causing crystallization and nucleation rates to decrease, and crystallite size distribution becomes wider. The Avrami analysis, modified by Jeziorny, was used to describe the nonisothermal crystallization of PHB and maleated PHB. Double melting peaks for maleated PHB were observed, which was caused by recrystallization during the heating process.  相似文献
