3D concrete printing (3DCP) is an emerging additive manufacturing technology in the construction industry. Its challenges lie in the development of high-performance printable materials and printing processes. Recently developed carbon-based nanomaterials (CBNs) such as graphene, graphene oxide, graphene nanoplatelets, and carbon nanotubes, have various applications due to their exceptional mechanical, chemical, thermal, and electrical characteristics. CBNs also have found potential applications as a concrete ingredient as they enhance the microstructure and modify concrete properties at the molecular level. This paper focuses on state-of-the-art studies on CBNs, 3DCP technology, and CBNs in conventional and 3D printable cement-based composites including CBN dispersion techniques, concrete mixing methods, and fresh and hardened properties of concrete. Furthermore, the current limitations and future perspectives of 3DCP using CBNs to produce high-quality composite mixtures are discussed.  相似文献

Thermoplastic composites were prepared using two continuous regenerated cellulose fiber types, rayon and lyocell, and with several different commercially-available thermoplastic cellulose esters as matrix. Matrix options included cellulose acetate propionate (CAP), and several cellulose acetate butyrates (CAB) with different butyryl content, having different molecular weights and different methods of plasticization (adipates and very low molecular weight cellulose ester fractions). Choice of cellulose ester type was generally found to have little or no effect on mechanical properties. A significant effect, however, was revealed for fiber type. The lyocell-based composites thereby were reflective of the greater stiffness of a fiber produced from anisotropic solution state. Their modulus consistently exceeded 20GPa whereas the rayon fiber-based composites had moduli between 6 and 8GPa. The latter, however, possessed failure strains that were 3 to 4 times greater than their stiffer counterparts.  相似文献

Three-dimensional (3D) geopolymer printing (3DGP) technology is a rapidly evolving digital fabrication method used in the construction industry. This technology offers significant benefits over 3D concrete printing in terms of energy saving and reduced carbon emissions, thus promoting sustainability. 3DGP technology is still evolving, and researchers are striving to develop high-performance printable materials and different methods to improve its robustness and efficiency. Carbon-based nanomaterials (CBNs) with beneficial properties have a wide range of applications in various fields, including as concrete/geopolymer systems in construction. This paper comprehensively reviews the research progress on carbon-based nanomaterials (CBNs) used to develop extrusion-based 3D geopolymer printing (3DGP) technology, including dispersion techniques, mixing methods, and the materials′ performance. The rheological, mechanical, durability, and other characteristics of these materials are also examined. Furthermore, the existing research limitations and the prospects of using 3DGP technology to produce high-quality composite mixtures are critically evaluated.  相似文献

Three dimensional composite matrices based on poly-d,l-lactide filled with 5 or 10 wt% of nanocrystalline cellulose modified by poly(glutamic acid) were produced using pre- optimized 3D printing technique. The composites demonstrated good biocompatibility and significantly improved osteoconductive properties compared with the matrix without filler or the one filled with neat nanocrystalline cellulose.  相似文献

Additive manufacturing and 3D printing in particular have the potential to revolutionize existing fabrication processes, where objects with complex structures and shapes can be built with multifunctional material systems. For electrochemical energy storage devices such as batteries and supercapacitors, 3D printing methods allows alternative form factors to be conceived based on the end use application need in mind at the design stage. Additively manufactured energy storage devices require active materials and composites that are printable, and this is influenced by performance requirements and the basic electrochemistry. The interplay between electrochemical response, stability, material type, object complexity and end use application are key to realising 3D printing for electrochemical energy storage. Here, we summarise recent advances and highlight the important role of methods, designs and material selection for energy storage devices made by 3D printing, which is general to the majority of methods in use currently.  相似文献

Three-dimensional (3D) printing manufactures intricate computer aided designs without time and resource spent for mold creation. The rapid growth of this industry has led to its extensive use in the automotive, biomedical, and electrical industries. In this work, biobased poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) blends were combined with pyrolyzed biomass to create sustainable and novel printing materials. The Miscanthus biocarbon (BC), generated from pyrolysis at 650 °C, was combined with an optimized PTT blend at 5 and 10 wt % to generate filaments for extrusion 3D printing. Samples were printed and analyzed according to their thermal, mechanical, and morphological properties. Although there were no significant differences seen in the mechanical properties between the two BC composites, the optimal quantity of BC was 5 wt % based upon dimensional stability, ease of printing, and surface finish. These printable materials show great promise for implementation into customizable, non-structural components in the electrical and automotive industries.  相似文献

Summary: A new class of fibre reinforced commodity thermoplastics suited for injection moulding and direct processing applications has been developed using man-made cellulosic fibres (Rayon tire yarn, Tencel, Viscose, Carbacell) and thermoplastic commodity polymers, such as polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), high impact polystyrene (HIPS), poly(lactic acid) (PLA), and a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) as the matrix polymer. For compounding, a specially adapted double pultrusion technique has been employed which provides composites with homogeneously distributed fibres. Extensive investigations were performed with Rayon reinforced PP in view of applications in the automotive industry. The Rayon-PP composite is characterized by high strength and an excellent impact behaviour as compared with glass fibre reinforced PP, thus permitting applications in the field of engineering thermoplastics such as polycarbonate/acrylonitrile butadiene styrene blends (PC/ABS). With the PP based composites the influence of material parameters (e.g. fibre type and load, coupling agent) were studied and it has been demonstrated how to tailor the desired composite properties as modulus and heat distortion temperature (HDT) by varying the fibre type or adding inorganic fillers. Man-made cellulose fibers are also suitable for the reinforcement of further thermoplastic commodity polymers with appropriate processing temperatures. In case of PE modulus and strength are tripled compared to the neat resin while Charpy impact strength is increased five-fold. For HIPS mainly strength and stiffness are increased, while for TPE the property profile is changed completely. With Rayon reinforced PLA, a fully biogenic and biodegradable composite with excellent mechanical properties including highly improved impact strength is presented.  相似文献

Thermocompression (with also extrusion and injection molding) is a classical polymer shaping manufacturing, but it does not easily allow designing sophisticated shapes without using a complex mold, on the contrary to 3D printing (or polymer additive manufacturing), which is a very flexible technique. Among all 3D printing techniques, fused deposition modeling is of high potential for product manufacturing, with the capability to compete with conventional polymer processing techniques. This is a quite low cost 3D printing technique, but the range of filaments commercially available is limited. However, in some specific 3D printing processes, no filaments are necessary. Polymers pellets feed directly the printing nozzle allowing to investigate many polymeric matrices with no commercial limitation. This is of high interest for the design of flame‐retarded materials, but literature is scarce in that field. In this paper, a comparison between thermocompression and 3D printing processes was performed on both neat ethylene‐vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer and EVA flame retarded with aluminum triHydroxyde (ATH) containing different loadings (30 or 65 wt%) and with expandable graphite (EG), ie, EVA/ATH (30 wt%), EVA/ATH (65 wt%), and EVA/EG (10 wt%), respectively. Morphological comparisons, using microscopic and electronic microprobe analyses, revealed that 3D printed plates have lower apparent density and higher porosity than thermocompressed plate. The fire‐retardant properties of thermocompressed and 3D printed plates were then evaluated using mass loss calorimeter test at 50 kW/m2. Results highlight that 3D printing can be used to produce flame‐retardant systems. This work is a pioneer study exploring the feasibility of using polymer additive manufacturing technology for designing efficient flame‐retarded materials.  相似文献

The poly‐N‐isopropylacrylamide intelligent hydrogel actuators with high mechanical strength and efficient temperature responses were successfully prepared via molding and three‐dimensional (3D) printing. Addition of nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) effectively improved the crosslinking density and viscosity of hydrogels, enhancing the mechanical strength and 3D printable property. Based on sufficient polymerization on interface, bilayer hydrogel actuator prepared via molding exhibited efficient bending/unbending deformations. Bending degree in poikilothermy temperature ranging from 25°C to 55°C was higher than that in constant temperature of 55°C. Inspired by the rheology regulation of NFC, 3D printing intelligent hydrogel actuators with NFC content of 10 mg/mL were polymerized efficiently by ultraviolet irradiation. Self‐driven deformation characteristics of 3D printed intelligent hydrogels actuators were regulated via printing parameters including angle, width and length ratio and filling rate of the layered network structure model. The prepared hydrogel material system with molding and 3D printing ability provided material candidates for design and preparation of intelligent soft actuator and robot.  相似文献

We prepared thermoplastic composite panels using solution impregnation of continuous lyocell (regenerated cellulose) fibers with a cellulose mixed-ester (cellulose acetate butyrate) matrix. We examined both fiber-matrix adhesion and melt consolidation in an effort to produce uniform panels having low void content and high mechanical strength. We characterized the effect of surface modification by acetylation on interfacial adhesion between the cellulose fiber and cellulose ester. Whereas wood fiber acetylation had previously been observed to result in significant strength gains in (discontinuous) wood fiber- reinforced composites (with the same matrix material), we did not observe a similar increase in strength in the continuous lyocell cellulose fiber system. This suggests that interfacial stress transfer is not a limitation in this system. This was confirmed by microscopic examination of the fracture surfaces, which indicated that fiber-matrix adhesion was considerable in the absence of fiber surface modification. We then systematically varied melt consolidation conditions (temperature, pressure and time) in an attempt to define optimum consolidation parameters by using design of experiments (DOE) methodology. We measured both interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) and composite void volume. We found that a minimal void content (ca. 2.83 vol. %) occurred at moderate temperatures (200°C), low consolidation pressures (81.4kPa) and long press times (13min). This was also where we maximized the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) at a value of 16.3MPa. This agrees with the regression model predictions. We observed the highest tensile properties at the ILSS and void-volume optimal-consolidation condition: a tensile modulus of 22GPa and tensile strength of 246MPa were obtained.  相似文献

The application of chitosan (CS) and whey protein (WP) alone or in combination in 3D/4D printing has been well considered in previous studies. Although several excellent reviews on additive manufacturing discussed the properties and biomedical applications of CS and WP, there is a lack of a systemic review about CS and WP bio-inks for 3D/4D printing applications. Easily modified bio-ink with optimal printability is a key for additive manufacturing. CS, WP, and WP–CS complex hydrogel possess great potential in making bio-ink that can be broadly used for future 3D/4D printing, because CS is a functional polysaccharide with good biodegradability, biocompatibility, non-immunogenicity, and non-carcinogenicity, while CS–WP complex hydrogel has better printability and drug-delivery effectivity than WP hydrogel. The review summarizes the current advances of bio-ink preparation employing CS and/or WP to satisfy the requirements of 3D/4D printing and post-treatment of materials. The applications of CS/WP bio-ink mainly focus on 3D food printing with a few applications in cosmetics. The review also highlights the trends of CS/WP bio-inks as potential candidates in 4D printing. Some promising strategies for developing novel bio-inks based on CS and/or WP are introduced, aiming to provide new insights into the value-added development and commercial CS and WP utilization.  相似文献

Nanoarchitectures based on the layer-by-layer self-assembly technique hold great potential for the availability and applicability of bio-inspired functional materials. The introduction of various specific functional building blocks onto the nanofibers of natural cellulose substances (e.g., commercial filter paper, cotton, etc.) through the self-assembly approach provides a facile strategy for the fabrication of artificial nanomaterials. This review summarizes a series of cellulose-based catalytic materials fabricated by utilizing the natural cellulose substance as the structural scaffolds or templates through the LbL self-assembly process. The unique three-dimensional network porous structures and high surface areas of the cellulose substances were maintained by the resultant cellulose-derived catalysts, while the excellent mechanical strength of the cellulose-based membrane catalysts was inherited from the initial cellulose substrates. When employed for the photodegradation of organic dyes, the photocatalytic hydrogen production from water splitting, and the antibiosis, these cellulose-based catalysts exhibited high activities and excellent cycling stabilities.  相似文献

Additive printing technology and expertise have experienced noteworthy development driven by their ability to revolutionize academic and industrial manufacturing and research. They also have particular practical uses in the areas of micro and nanofabrication. Micro- and nano-printings have found a tremendous number of applications in material synthesis/patterning, electronics, medicine and biotechnology. In this mini review, we examine the important additive micro and nano printing techniques, including contact and noncontact, and roll to roll (R2R) printing methods as well as recently emerging techniques such as micro- or nano-pen printings, laser-induced forward transfer (LIFT) and aerosol jet printing (APJ). We also discuss the materials that are printable by these technologies, the applications of micro- and nano-printings, key features, advantages and challenges.  相似文献

This review focuses on the usefulness of coordination bonds to create 3D printable inks and shows how the union of chemistry and 3D technology contributes to new scientific advances, by allowing amorphous or polycrystalline solids to be transformed into objects with the desired shape for successful applications. The review clearly shows how there has been considerable increase in the manufacture of objects based on the combination of organic matrices and coordination compounds. These coordination compounds are usually homogeneously dispersed within the matrix, anchored onto a proper support or coating the printed object, without destroying their unique properties. Advances are so rapid that today it is already possible to 3D print objects made exclusively from coordination compounds without additives. The new printable inks are made mainly with nanoscale nonporous coordination polymers, metal–organic gels, or metal–organic frameworks. The highly dynamic coordination bond allows the creation of objects, which respond to stimuli, that can act as sensors and be used for drug delivery. In addition, the combination of metal–organic frameworks with 3D printing allows the adsorption or selective capacity of the object to be increased, relative to that of the original compound, which is useful in energy storage, gas separation, or water pollutant elimination. Furthermore, the presence of the metal ion can give them new properties, such as luminescence, that are useful for application in sensors or anticounterfeiting. Technological advances, the combination of various printing techniques, and the properties of coordination bonds lead to the creation of surprising, new, printable inks and objects with highly complex shapes that will close the gap between academia and industry for research into coordination compounds.  相似文献

l ‐lactide monomers were grafted onto cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) via ring‐opening polymerization, forming poly(lactic acid) grafted cellulose nanofibers (PLA‐g‐CNFs). PLA‐g‐CNFs and pristine PLA were then blended in chloroform and dried to prepare a master batch. PLA‐g‐CNFs/PLA composite filaments targeted for 3D printing were produced by compounding the master batch in PLA matrix and melt extrusion. The as‐extruded composite filaments were subsequently thermal annealed in a conventional oven, and their morphological, thermal, and mechanical properties were evaluated. PLA was successfully grafted on the surface of CNFs as demonstrated by elemental analysis, and the concentration of grafted PLA was estimated to be 33 wt %. The grafted PLA were highly crystallized, contributing to the growth of crystalline regions of PLA matrix. The incorporation of PLA‐g‐CNFs improved storage modulus of the composite filaments in both low temperature glassy state and high temperature rubbery state. Postextrusion annealing treatment led to 28 and 63% increases for tensile modulus and strength of the filaments, respectively. Simulated Young's moduli from the Halpin‐Tsai and Krenchel models were found comparable with the experimental values. The formed composite filaments are suitable for use in 3D printing. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Phys. 2017 , 55, 847–855  相似文献

While the developments of additive manufacturing (AM) techniques have been remarkable thus far, they are still significantly limited by the range of printable, functional material systems that meet the requirements of a broad range of industries; including the health care, manufacturing, packaging, aerospace, and automotive industries. Furthermore, with the rising demand for sustainable developments, this review broadly gives the reader a good overview of existing AM techniques; with more focus on the extrusion-based technologies (fused deposition modeling and direct ink writing) due to their scalability, cost efficiency and wider range of material processability. It then goes on to identify the innovative materials and recent research activities that may support the sustainable development of extrusion-based techniques for functional and multifunctional (4D printing) part and product fabrication.  相似文献

Nanocomposite films consisting of cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs), magnesium hydroxide nanoplatelets (MHNPs) and regenerated cellulose were prepared via simple blending and casting processes. The CNFs were obtained from bamboo pulp by ultrasonic treatment coupled with high shear homogenization. The morphology, structure and properties of the nanocomposite films were comprehensively analyzed using various characterization techniques, including the scanning electron microscope, digital microscope, limiting oxygen index (LOI), micro-scale combustion calorimetry, antibacterial assays, tensile testing, etc. When the MHNP content was optimized to 30 wt%, the nanocomposite film exhibited the best overall properties. The LOI of the composite film increased from 20.0 (0 wt% MHNPs) to 32.7 (30 wt% MHNPs), making it a flame-retardant material in air. In addition, the film containing 30 wt% MHNPs showed excellent antibacterial activity. However, the increase in MHNP content would result in gradual deterioration of the films’ mechanical properties. However, the incorporation of CNFs could significantly suppress this trend. The present work provided a promising pathway for manufacturing multifunctional and high-performance cellulose-based composite films, which were potentially useful for a variety of packaging materials, especially in the biomedical and food packaging fields.  相似文献

Additive manufacturing offers a useful and accessible tool for prototyping and manufacturing small volume functional parts. Polylactic acid (PLA) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) are amongst the most commonly used materials. Characterising 3D printed PLA and TPU is potentially important for both designing and finite element modelling of functional parts. This work explores the mechanical properties of additively manufactured PLA/TPU specimens with consideration to design parameters including size, and infill percentage. PLA/TPU specimens are 3D-printed in selected ISO standard geometries with 20%, 60%, 100% infill percentage. Tensile and compression test results suggest that traditional ISO testing standards might be insufficient in characterising 3D printed materials for finite element modelling or application purposes. Infill percentage in combination to design size, may significantly affect the mechanical performance of 3D printed parts. Dimensional variation may cause inhomogeneity in mechanical properties between large and small cross section areas of the same part. The effect was reduced in small cross section parts where reducing the nominal infill had less effect on the resulting specimens. The results suggest that for 3D printed functional parts with significant dimensional differences between sections, the material properties are not necessarily homogeneous. This consideration may be significant for designers using 3D printing for applications, which include mechanical loading.  相似文献
