The free vibration of a shear deformable beam with multiple open edge cracks is studied using a lattice spring model (LSM). The beam is supported by a so-called two-parameter elastic foundation, where normal and shear foundation stiffnesses are considered. Through application of Timoshenko beam theory, the effects of transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia are taken into account. In the LSM, the beam is discretised into a one-dimensional assembly of segments interacting via rotational and shear springs. These springs represent the flexural and shear stiffnesses of the beam. The supporting action of the elastic foundation is described also by means of normal and shear springs acting on the centres of the segments. The relationship between stiffnesses of the springs and the elastic properties of the one-dimensional structure are identified by comparing the homogenised equations of motion of the discrete system and Timoshenko beam theory.  相似文献

Nonlinear free transverse vibration of an axially moving beam is investigated. A partial-differential equation governing the transverse vibration is derived from the Newton's second law. Under the assumption that the tension of beam can be replaced by the averaged tension over the beam, the partial-differential reduces to a widely used integro-partial-differential equation for nonlinear free transverse vibration. The method of multiple scales is applied directly to two equations to evaluate nonlinear natural frequencies. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the analytical results and to highlight the difference between two models. Two models yield the essentially same results for the weak nonlinearity, the small axial speed and the low mode, while the difference between two models increases with the nonlinear term, the axial speed, and the order of mode.  相似文献

In this paper, an active control scheme for an axially moving string system that suppresses both longitudinal and transverse vibrations and regulates the transport velocity of the string to track a desired moving velocity profile is investigated. The control scheme utilizes three inputs: one control force at the right boundary, which is exerted by a hydraulic actuator equipped with a damper, and two control torques applied at the left and right rollers. The equations of motion are derived by using Hamilton's principle. Two nonlinear partial differential equations govern the longitudinal and transverse motions, where the variation of the tension of the string due to the transverse and longitudinal vibrations is considered. Among four boundary conditions, two describe the rotational dynamics of the left and right rollers; one determines the dynamics of the hydraulic actuator at the right boundary, and the last one denotes that the left boundary is fixed. The Lyapunov method is employed to generate control laws. Asymptotic stability of the transverse and longitudinal dynamics and the velocity tracking error is achieved. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is illustrated via numerical simulations.  相似文献

The three-dimensional motion of an offshore compliant tower using both rigid and flexible beam models is studied in this paper. The tower is modelled as a beam supported by a torsional spring at the base with a point mass at the free end. The torsional spring constant is the same in all directions. When the beam is considered rigid, the two-degree-of-freedom model is employed. The two degrees constitute the two angular degrees of spherical co-ordinates, and the resulting equations are coupled and non-linear. When the beam is considered as elastic, three displacements are obtained as functions of the axial co-ordinate and time; again with coupled and non-linear equations of motion. The free and the forced responses due to deterministic loads are presented. The free responses of the rigid and elastic beams show rotating elliptical paths when viewed from above. The rate at which the path rotates depends on the initial conditions. When a harmonic transverse loading is applied in one direction, the displacement in that direction shows subharmonic resonance of order 1/2 and 1/3 while the displacement in the perpendicular direction is affected minimally. Next, in addition to the harmonic load in one direction, a transverse load is applied in the perpendicular direction. The transverse load varies exponentially with depth but is constant with time. It is found that the transverse load affects the transverse displacements in the perpendicular direction minimally.  相似文献

An axially moving nested cantilever beam is a type of time-varying nonlinear system that can be regarded as a cantilever stepped beam. The transverse vibration equation for the axially moving nested cantilever beam with a tip mass is derived by D’Alembert?s principle, and the modified Galerkin?s method is used to solve the partial differential equation. The theoretical model is modified by adjusting the theoretical beam length with the measured results of its first-order vibration frequencies under various beam lengths. It is determined that the length correction value of the second segment of the nested beam increases as the structural length increases, but the corresponding increase in the amplitude becomes smaller. The first-order decay coefficients are identified by the logarithmic decrement method, and the decay coefficient of the beam decreases with an increase in the cantilever length. The calculated responses of the modified model agree well with the experimental results, which verifies the correctness of the proposed calculation model and indicates the effectiveness of the methods of length correction and damping determination. Further studies on non-damping free vibration properties of the axially moving nested cantilever beam during extension and retraction are investigated in the present paper. Furthermore, the extension movement of the beam leads the vibration displacement to increase gradually, and the instantaneous vibration frequency and the vibration speed decrease constantly. Moreover, as the total mechanical energy becomes smaller, the extension movement of the nested beam remains stable. The characteristics for the retraction movement of the beam are the reverse.  相似文献

Stabilization of an axially moving web via regulation of axial velocity   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper, a novel control algorithm for suppression of the transverse vibration of an axially moving web system is presented. The principle of the proposed control algorithm is the regulation of the axial transport velocity of an axially moving beam so as to track a profile according to which the vibration energy decays most quickly. The optimal control problem that generates the proposed profile of the axial transport velocity is solved by the conjugate gradient method. The Galerkin method is applied in order to reduce the partial differential equation describing the dynamics of the axially moving beam into a set of ordinary differential equations (ODEs). For control design purposes, these ODEs are rewritten into state-space equations. The vibration energy of the axially moving beam is represented by the quadratic form of the state variables. In the optimal control problem, the cost function modified from the vibration energy function is subjected to the constraints on the state variables, and the axial transport velocity is considered as a control input. Numerical simulations are performed to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm.

Helical springs serve as vibration isolators in virtually any suspension system. Various exact and approximate methods may be employed to determine the eigenfrequencies of vibrations of these structural elements and their dynamic transfer functions. The method of boundary integral equations is a meaningful alternative to obtain exact solutions of problems of the time-harmonic dynamics of elastic springs in the framework of Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. In this paper, the derivations of the Green's matrix, of the Somigliana's identities, and of the boundary integral equations are presented. The vibrational power transmission in an infinitely long spring is analyzed by means of the Green's matrix. The eigenfrequencies and the dynamic transfer functions are found by solving the boundary integral equations. In the course of analysis, the essential features and advantages of the method of boundary integral equations are highlighted. The reported analytical results may be used to study the time-harmonic motion in any wave guide governed by a system of linear differential equations in a single spatial coordinate along its axis.  相似文献

The coupled longitudinal–transverse nonlinear dynamics of an axially accelerating beam is numerically investigated; this problem is classified as a parametrically excited gyroscopic system. The axial speed is assumed to be comprised of a constant mean value along with harmonic fluctuations. Hamilton’s principle is employed to derive the equations of motion of the system which are in the form of two coupled partial differential equations. The equations are discretized using the Galerkin method, which yields a set of coupled second-order nonlinear ordinary differential equations with time-dependent coefficients. The sub-critical dynamics of the system is examined via the pseudo-arclength continuation technique, while the global dynamics is investigated using direct time integration. The mean axial speed and the amplitude of the speed variations are varied so as to construct the bifurcation diagrams of Poincaré maps. The vibration specifications of the system are investigated more detailed via plotting time histories, phase-plane portraits, and fast Fourier transforms (FFTs).  相似文献

The present paper investigates the steady-state periodic response of an axially moving viscoelastic beam in the supercritical speed range. The straight equilibrium configuration bifurcates in multiple equilibrium positions in the supercritical regime. It is assumed that the excitation of the forced vibration is spatially uniform and temporally harmonic. Under the quasi-static stretch assumption, a nonlinear integro-partial-differential equation governs the transverse motion of the axially moving beam. The equation is cast in the standard form of continuous gyroscopic systems via introducing a coordinate transform for non-trivial equilibrium configuration. For a beam constituted by the Kelvin model, the primary resonance is analyzed via the Galerkin method under the simply supported boundary conditions. Based on the Galerkin truncation, the finite difference schemes are developed to verify the results via the method of multiple scales. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the steady-state periodic responses exist in the transverse vibration and a resonance with a softening-type behavior occurs if the external load frequency approaches the linear natural frequency in the supercritical regime. The effects of the viscoelastic damping, external excitation amplitude, and nonlinearity on the steady-state response amplitude for the first mode are illustrated.  相似文献

An analytical study for free vibration of naturally curved and twisted beams with uniform cross-sectional shapes is carried out using spatial curved beam theory based on the Washizu's static model. In the governing equations of motion of the beams, all displacement functions and the generalized warping coordinate are defined at the centroid axis and also the effects of rotary inertia, transverse shear deformations and torsion-related warping are included in the proposed model. Explicit analytical expressions are derived for the vibrating mode shapes of a curved, bending-torsional-shearing coupled beam under clamped-clamped boundary condition with the help of symbolic computing package Mathematica, and a process of searching is used to determine the natural frequencies. Comparisons of the present results with the FEM results using beam elements in ANSYS code show good accuracy in computation and validity of the model. Further, the present model is used for cylindrical helical springs with circular cross-section fixed at both ends, and the results indicate that the natural frequencies agree well with the theoretical and experimental results available.  相似文献

This paper aims at investigating the interaction of two flexible permanent magnet beams facing each other. The governing equations of motion are obtained based on the Euler–Bernoulli beam model along with Hamilton's principle. Assuming that the beams' tips are far enough, each magnet beam is considered as a series of dipole segments and the external force and moment distributions over each beam due to the magnetic field of the other one is calculated in the deformed configuration. The transverse deflections of the beams are written as series expansions of the mode shapes of an unloaded cantilever beam and the Galerkin method is applied to determine the stability and resonance frequencies. Using the obtained model, the stability regions of the beams for both cases of opposite poles and same poles facing each other are obtained. Also the effect of magnet's strength and flexibility of the beams on the stability boundaries are illustrated.  相似文献

Free vibration and stability are investigated for a cantilever beam attached to an axially moving base in fluid. The equations of motion of the slender cantilever beam affiliated to an axially moving base at a known rate while immersed in an incompressible fluid are derived first. An “axially added mass coefficient” is taken into account in the obtained equations. Then, a coordinate transformation is introduced to fix the boundaries. Based on the Galerkin approach, the natural frequencies of the beam system are numerically analyzed. The effects of moving speed of the base and several other system parameters on the dynamics and stability of the beam are discussed in detail. It is found that when the moving speed exceeds a certain value the beam becomes unstable and the instability type is sensitive to the system parameters. When the values of system parameters, such as mass ratio and axially added mass coefficient, are big enough, however, no instabilities are detected. The variations of the lowest unstable critical moving speed with respect to several key parameters are also investigated.  相似文献

Utilizing the Timoshenko beam theory and applying Hamilton's principle, the bending vibration equations of an axially loaded beam with locally distributed internal damping of the Kelvin-Voigt type are established. The partial differential equations of motion are then discretized into linear second-order ordinary differential equations based on a finite element method. A quadratic eigenvalue problem of a damped system is formed to determine the eigenfrequencies of the damped beams. The effects of the internal damping, sizes and locations of damped segment, axial load and restraint types on the damping and oscillating parts of the damped natural frequency are investigated. It is believed that the present study is valuable for better understanding the influence of various parameters of the damped beam on its vibration characteristics.  相似文献

Galerkin methods for natural frequencies of high-speed axially moving beams   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper, natural frequencies of planar vibration of axially moving beams are numerically investigated in the supercritical ranges. In the supercritical transport speed regime, the straight equilibrium configuration becomes unstable and bifurcate in multiple equilibrium positions. The governing equations of coupled planar is reduced to two nonlinear models of transverse vibration. For motion about each bifurcated solution, those nonlinear equations are cast in the standard form of continuous gyroscopic systems by introducing a coordinate transform. The natural frequencies are investigated for the beams via the Galerkin method to truncate the corresponding governing equations without nonlinear parts into an infinite set of ordinary-differential equations under the simple support boundary. Numerical results indicate that the nonlinear coefficient has little effects on the natural frequency, and the three models predict qualitatively the same tendencies of the natural frequencies with the changing parameters and the integro-partial-differential equation yields results quantitatively closer to those of the coupled equations.  相似文献

Free nonlinear transverse vibration is investigated for an axially moving beam modeled by an integro-partial-differential equation. Based on the equation, a conserved quantity is defined and confirmed for axially moving beams with pinned or clamped ends. The conserved quantity is applied to demonstrate the Lyapunov stability of the straight equilibrium configuration in transverse nonlinear of beam with a low axial speed.  相似文献

A comprehensive dynamic model of a rotating hub–functionally graded material (FGM) beam system is developed based on a rigid–flexible coupled dynamics theory to study its free vibration characteristics. The rigid–flexible coupled dynamic equations of the system are derived using the method of assumed modes and Lagrange's equations of the second kind. The dynamic stiffening effect of the rotating hub–FGM beam system is captured by a second-order coupling term that represents longitudinal shrinking of the beam caused by the transverse displacement. The natural frequencies and mode shapes of the system with the chordwise bending and stretching (B–S) coupling effect are calculated and compared with those with the coupling effect neglected. When the B–S coupling effect is included, interesting frequency veering and mode shift phenomena are observed. A two-mode model is introduced to accurately predict the most obvious frequency veering behavior between two adjacent modes associated with a chordwise bending and a stretching mode. The critical veering angular velocities of the FGM beam that are analytically determined from the two-mode model are in excellent agreement with those from the comprehensive dynamic model. The effects of material inhomogeneity and graded properties of FGM beams on their dynamic characteristics are investigated. The comprehensive dynamic model developed here can be used in graded material design of FGM beams for achieving specified dynamic characteristics.  相似文献

A rod cylinder based pneumatic driving scheme is proposed to suppress the vibration of a flexible smart beam. Pulse code modulation (PCM) method is employed to control the motion of the cylinder's piston rod for simultaneous positioning and vibration suppression. Firstly, the system dynamics model is derived using Hamilton principle. Its standard state-space representation is obtained for characteristic analysis, controller design, and simulation. Secondly, a genetic algorithm (GA) is applied to optimize and tune the control gain parameters adaptively based on the specific performance index. Numerical simulations are performed on the pneumatic driving elastic beam system, using the established model and controller with tuned gains by GA optimization process. Finally, an experimental setup for the flexible beam driven by a pneumatic rod cylinder is constructed. Experiments for suppressing vibrations of the flexible beam are conducted. Theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed pneumatic drive scheme and the adopted control algorithms are feasible. The large amplitude vibration of the first bending mode can be suppressed effectively.  相似文献

The equations of motion are derived for a Timoshenko beam of arbitrary section in transverse vibration with an applied axial loading. Some discrepancies are noted by comparison with earlier work and these are examined and accounted for. The application of these more general equations is then considered for certain special cases, including a rotating blade.  相似文献
