Soft- and reactive-landing of gas-phase synthesized cationic Cr(aniline)(2) complexes onto self-assembled monolayers of methyl-terminated (CH(3)-SAM) and carboxyl-terminated (COOH-SAM) organothiolates coated on gold were performed at hyperthermal collision energy (5-20 eV). The properties of the Cr(aniline)(2) complexes on the SAM surfaces were characterized using infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRAS) and temperature-programmed desorption (TPD), together with theoretical calculations based on density functional theory (DFT). For the CH(3)-SAM, the Cr(aniline)(2) complexes were embedded inside the SAM matrix in a neutral charge state, keeping a sandwich structure. For the COOH-SAM, the IRAS and TPD study revealed that the amine-containing Cr(aniline)(2) complexes were bound to the SAM surface in two forms of physisorption and chemical linking through an amide bond. In the desorption, the latter form appeared as the reaction product between organothiolates and Cr(aniline)(2) above 400 K, where the organothiolate molecules, forming the SAM, were desorbed from the gold surface. The results show that the hyperthermal depositions onto a COOH-SAM bring about reactive-landing followed by covalent linking of an amide bond between the amine-containing Cr(aniline)(2) complexes to the carboxyl-terminated SAM surface, in which the binding sites can be separated from the functional sites of the d-π interaction.  相似文献

Gas-phase synthesized vanadium-benzene 1:2 (VBz(2)) sandwich clusters were size-selectively deposited onto bare gold and long-chain n-alkanethiolate [-S-(CH(2))(n-1)-CH(3); n = 16, 18, and 22] self-assembled monolayer (SAM)-coated gold substrates under ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) conditions. Investigation of the resulting deposited clusters was performed by infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRAS) and thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS). The IR frequencies of the soft-landed VBz(2) clusters show excellent agreement with the fundamentals reported in IR data of VBz(2) in an argon matrix. The analysis of IRAS spectra reveals that while there was no orientational preference of the VBz(2) clusters on a bare gold substrate, the VBz(2) clusters deposited onto the SAM substrates were highly oriented with the molecular axis 70-80 degrees tilted off the surface normal. In addition, analysis of TDS spectra revealed unusually large adsorption heats of the physisorbed VBz(2) clusters. The present results are explained by cluster penetration into the long-chain alkanethiolate SAM and for the first time demonstrate the matrix isolation of gas-phase organometallic clusters around room temperature.  相似文献

Preparation and characterization of silica supported Au-Pd model catalysts   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Au-Pd bimetallic model catalysts were synthesized as alloy clusters on SiO2 ultrathin films under ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) conditions. The surface composition and morphology were characterized with low energy ion scattering spectroscopy (LEIS), infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRAS), and temperature programmed desorption (TPD). Relative to the bulk, the surface of the clusters is enriched in Au. With CO as a probe, IRAS and TPD were used to identify isolated Pd sites at the surface of the supported Au-Pd clusters. Ethylene adsorption and dehydrogenation show a clear structure-reactivity correlation with respect to the structure/composition of these Au-Pd model catalysts.  相似文献

Adsorption of ethylene oxide, CH(2)CH(2)O (EtO), on a Au(211) stepped surface was studied by temperature programmed desorption (TPD) and Fourier transform infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy (FT-IRAS). Ethylene oxide was completely reversibly adsorbed, and desorbed molecularly during TPD following adsorption on Au(211) at 85 K. EtO TPD peaks appeared at 115 K from the multilayer film and 140 and 170 K from the monolayer. Desorption at 140 K was attributed to EtO desorption from terrace sites, and that at 170 K to EtO desorption from step sites. Desorption activation energies and corresponding adsorption energies were estimated to be 8.4 and 10.3 kcal mol(-1), respectively. The EtO ring (C(2)O) deformation band appeared in IRAS at 865 cm(-1) for EtO in multilayer films and when adsorbed in the monolayer at terrace sites. The stronger chemisorption bonding of EtO at Au step sites slightly weakens the bonding within the molecule and causes a small red-shift of this band to 850 cm(-1) for adsorption at step sites. EtO presumably binds via the oxygen atom to the surface, and observation of the EtO-ring absorption band in IRAS establishes that the molecular ring plane of EtO adsorbed at step and terrace sites is nearly upright with respect to the crystal surface plane.  相似文献

Bimetallic catalysts have demonstrated properties favorable for upgrading biofuel through catalytic hydrodeoxygenation. However, the design and optimization of such bimetallic catalysts requires the ability to construct accurate, predictive models of these systems. To generate a model that predicts the kinetic behavior of benzene adsorbed on Pt (1 1 1) and a Pt3Sn (1 1 1) surface alloy (Pt3Sn (1 1 1)), the adsorption of benzene was studied for a wide range of benzene coverages on both surfaces using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The adsorption energy of benzene was found to correlate linearly with benzene coverage on Pt (1 1 1) and Pt3Sn (1 1 1); both surfaces exhibited net repulsive lateral interactions. Through an analysis of the d-band properties of the metal surface, it was determined that the coverage dependence is a consequence of the electronic interactions between benzene and the surface. The linear coverage dependence of the adsorption energy allowed us to quantify the influence of the lateral interactions on the heat of adsorption and temperature programmed desorption (TPD) spectra using a mean-field model. A comparison of our simulated TPD to experiment showed that this mean-field model adequately reproduces the desorption behavior of benzene on Pt (1 1 1) and Pt3Sn (1 1 1). In particular, the TPD correctly exhibits a broadening desorption peak as the initial coverage of benzene increases on Pt (1 1 1) and a low temperature desorption peak on Pt3Sn (1 1 1). However, due to the sensitivity of the TPD peak temperature to the desorption energy, precise alignment of experimental and theoretical TPD spectra demands an accurate calculation of the adsorption energy. Therefore, an analysis of the effect of the exchange-correlation functional on TPD modeling is presented. Through this work, we show the necessity of incorporating lateral interactions into theoretical models in order to correctly predict experimental behavior.  相似文献

The growth of Ag on an ordered Al2O3 surface was studied by low energy ion scattering spectroscopy (LEIS), scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and temperature programmed desorption (TPD). Three-dimensional (3D) growth of Ag clusters was observed with STM and LEIS, with the cluster size increasing with Ag coverage. The XPS core level binding energies and the Auger parameters indicate a weak interaction between the Ag clusters and the Al2O3 support. Final state effects are determined to be the primary contribution to the Ag core level binding energy shift. Nonzero order kinetics was observed for Ag desorption in TPD with the Ag sublimation energy decreasing with decreasing cluster size.  相似文献

Measurements of the thermal desorption of methyl bromide (MeBr) from bare and RS-functionalized GaAs(110), where R = CH3 and CH3CH2, reveal marked systematic changes in molecule-surface interactions. As the thickness of the organic spacer layer is increased, the electrostatic MeBr-GaAs(110) interaction decreases, lowering the activation energy for desorption, Ed, as well as decreasing the critical coverage required for nucleation of bulklike MeBr. On the CH3CH2S-functionalized surface, Ed is lowered to a value roughly equal to that for desorption from three-dimensional (3-D) clusters; because the kinetics of desorption of isolated molecules differs from that for desorption from clusters, desorption of isolated molecules from the organic surface occurs at a lower temperature than desorption from the clusters. Thus, the "monolayer" desorption wave occurs at a lower temperature than the "multilayer" desorption wave. These results illustrate the role that organic chain length in nanometer-scale thin films can play in alteration of the delicate balance of interfacial interactions.  相似文献

Equilibrium adsorption isotherms for low-volatile compounds are extremely difficult to measure. A simple technique using temperature programmed desorption (TPD) is proposed. It is demonstrated that the two parameters needed for constructing the Langmuir isotherm can be derived with data from the TPD technique alone. Thus, the Langmuir isotherms of iodine on AX-21 super-activated carbon were obtained with this technique. A series of TPD experiments for samples with different initial loadings of iodine were carried out by varying the heating rates which resulted in different peak desorption temperatures. The peak desorption temperature decreased as the initial loading was increased because of the re-adsorption effect. The Langmuir constant was derived from kinetic theory with the activation energy for desorption obtained from the experiment. The activation energy for desorption was 12.3 kcal/mol. The Langmuir constants determined by this technique were in comparable order of magnitude to the reported values for iodine on activated carbon. The saturation capacity of AX-21 for iodine could also be determined from the TPD data obtained from samples with different initial loadings. The estimated saturation capacity from the TPD experiment was 2.96 g I(2)/g AX-21, which was close to the experimentally measured saturation capacity of 3.25 g I(2)/g AX-21 for the same system.  相似文献

In the gas phase, we have successfully synthesized organometallic clusters, Mn(benzene)m (M=3d transition metal atoms), by using a laser vaporization method. The measurements of mass spectra and ionization energies (Ei) have revealed that the organometallic clusters can take two types of structures; layered sandwich structures (m = n + 1) and metal clusters saturatedly covered with benzenes. For early transition metals of Sc, Ti, and V, only the multiple decker sandwich structure clusters were preferentially produced, in which benzene and metal atoms are alternately piled up. For late transition metals of Co and Ni, the metal clusters saturatedly surrounded by benzenes were also produced as well as the sandwich clusters. Furthermore, the Eis of M1(benzene)2 (M = Sc-Ni) were systematically measured and their electronic properties will be discussed.

The interaction and autoionization of HCl on low-temperature (80-140 K) water ice surfaces has been studied using low-energy (5-250 eV) electron-stimulated desorption (ESD) and temperature programmed desorption (TPD). There is a reduction of H(+) and H(2)(+) and a concomitant increase in H(+)(H(2)O)(n=1-7) ESD yields due to the presence of submonolayer quantities of HCl. These changes are consistent with HCl induced reduction of dangling bonds required for H(+) and H(2)(+) ESD and increased hole localization necessary for H(+)(H(2)O)(n=1-7) ESD. For low coverages, this can involve nonactivated autoionization of HCl, even at temperatures as low as 80 K; well below those typical of polar stratospheric cloud particles. The uptake and autoionization of HCl is supported by TPD studies which show that for HCl doses ≤0.5 ± 0.2 ML (ML = monolayer) at 110 K, desorption of HCl begins at 115 K and peaks at 180 K. The former is associated with adsorption of a small amount of molecular HCl and is strongly dependent on the annealing history of the ice. The latter peak at 180 K is commensurate with desorption of HCl via recombinative desorption of solvated separated ion pairs. The activation energy for second-order desorption of HCl initially in the ionized state is 43 ± 2 kJ/mol. This is close to the zero-order activation energy for ice desorption.  相似文献

The partial oxidation of methanol and ethanol on silica-supported vanadium oxide catalysts was studied using temperature-programmed desorption (TPD), Raman spectroscopy, and diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy (DRIFTS). Methanol TPD results for V2O5/SiO2 samples as a function of vanadia loading in conjunction with X-ray diffraction data and Raman spectra indicated that dispersed vanadia on silica agglomerates into vanadia crystallites during a CH3OH TPD experiment. For ethanol-dosed samples, agglomeration of the dispersed vanadia was less severe, and it was possible to measure the activation energy for the dehydrogenation of adsorbed ethoxides to produce CH3CHO. Assuming a preexponential factor of 10(13) s(-1), the activation energy for this reaction was estimated to be 132 kJ/mol. The results of this study further demonstrate that there is a relatively weak interaction between vanadia and silica and suggest that adsorbed methoxide species help facilitate agglomeration of dispersed vanadia.  相似文献

Recent work shows that coating a supported palladium catalyst with a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of alkanethiols can dramatically improve selectivity in the hydrogenation of 1-epoxy-3-butene (EpB) to 1-epoxybutane. Here, we present the results of surface-level investigations of the adsorption of EpB and related molecules on SAM-coated Pd(111), with an aim of identifying mechanistic explanations for the observed catalytic behavior. Alkanethiol SAM-covered Pd(111) surfaces were prepared by conventional techniques and transferred to ultrahigh vacuum, where they were characterized using Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) and temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) of EpB and other probe molecules. Whereas previous studies have shown that EpB undergoes rapid decomposition via epoxide ring opening on uncoated Pd(111), TPD studies show that EpB does not undergo substantial ring opening on SAM-covered surfaces but rather desorbs intact at temperatures less than 300 K. Systematic comparisons of EpB desorption spectra to spectra for other C(4) oxygenates suggest that the SAM creates a kinetic barrier to epoxide ring-opening reactions that does not exist on the uncoated surface. The EpB desorption spectra as a function of exposure show behavior similar to the desorption of olefins from Pd(111), indicating that the binding of the olefin functionality, in contrast to that of the epoxide ring, is not significantly perturbed. EpB desorption spectra from surfaces with less well-ordered SAMs show the presence of weakly bound states not observed on well-ordered SAM surfaces. The lower activity observed on catalysts covered with less well-ordered SAMs is hypothesized to occur due to partial confinement of adsorbates into these weakly bound, less active states.  相似文献

The adsorption of water on FeO(111) is investigated using temperature programmed desorption (TPD) and infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRAS). Well-ordered 2 ML thick FeO(111) films are grown epitaxially on a Pt(111) substrate. Water adsorbs molecularly on FeO(111) and desorbs with a well resolved monolayer peak. IRAS measurements as a function of coverage are performed for water deposited at 30 and 135 K. For all coverages (0.2 ML and greater), the adsorbed water exhibits significant hydrogen bonding. Differences in IRAS spectra for water adsorbed at 30 and 135 K are subtle but suggest that water adsorbed at 135 K is well ordered. Monolayer nitrogen TPD spectra from water covered FeO(111) surfaces are used to investigate the clustering of the water as a function of deposition or annealing temperature. Temperature dependent water overlayer structures result from differences in water diffusion rates on bare FeO(111) and on water adsorbed on FeO(111). Features in the nitrogen TPD spectra allow the monolayer wetting and 2-dimensional (2D) ordering of water on FeO(111) to be followed. Voids in a partially disordered first water layer exist for water deposited below 120 K and ordered 2D islands are found when depositing water above 120 K.  相似文献

Using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and temperature-programmed desorption (TPD), the room temperature (RT) adsorption and thermal evolution of monochlorobenzene (MCB) and 1,3-dichlorobenzene (1,3-DCB) on Si(100)2x1 have been investigated and compared with that of 1,2-dichlorobenzene (1,2-DCB) reported previously. Like 1,2-DCB, the C 1s features observed at 284.6 (C(1)) and 286.0 eV (C(2)) for both MCB and 1,3-DCB could be attributed to the C-H and C-Cl bonds, respectively. The C(1)/C(2) intensity ratios for MCB (5.0) and 1,3-DCB (2.0) are found to follow the stoichiometric ratios of the C-H to C-Cl bonds for MCB and 1,3-DCB, respectively, indicating that both MCB and 1,3-DCB adsorb on Si(100)2x1 molecularly with negligible C-Cl dissociation at RT, in marked contrast to the partial C-Cl dissociation found for 1,2-DCB. Unlike 1,2-DCB with two discernible Cl 2s features at 270.3 and 271.2 eV, a single Cl 2s feature at 271.2 eV is observed for MCB and 1,3-DCB, in accord with the single local chemical environment for Cl. The TPD results show that MCB undergoes molecular desorption exclusively, similar to that found for benzene. Both molecular desorption and recombinative HCl desorption are found for 1,3-DCB, similar to that for 1,2-DCB. Despite the different Cl contents and relative Cl locations on the benzene ring, both MCB and 1,3-DCB exhibit RT adsorption behavior remarkably similar to that of benzene. To explain the C-Cl dissociation observed for 1,2-DCB, we propose a possible transition state involving the Cl atoms located at more physically compatible positions with the surface Si dimers in order to facilitate the conversion of 1,2-DCB (preferentially over 1,3-DCB) to dissociated products at RT. However, the thermal evolution of 1,3-DCB is closer to that of 1,2-DCB than that of MCB and benzene. The breakage of C-Cl bonds is found to occur at a relatively low temperature of 425 K, which suggests a relatively low activation barrier for the dechlorination of 1,3-DCB adspecies. Calculated energetics for 1,4-DCB on Si(100)2x1 shows that double dechlorination is not as favorable a process as those for 1,2-DCB and 1,3-DCB.  相似文献

The reversible self-assembly of a series of bipolar amphiphiles, alpha,omega-bis(3- or 4-amidinophenoxy)alkanes (chain length n = 5-12), on mercaptoalkanoic acid-functionalized gold surfaces (chain length n = 10, 11, 14, 15) has been studied by in-situ ellipsometry, IR reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRAS), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The layer order, amphiphile orientation, and tendency to form bilayers depends on the position of the amidine substituent, the alkyl chain length of both the amidine amphiphile and the underlying acid self-assembled monolayer (SAM), and whether the amidine alkyl chain contained an even or odd number of methylene groups. Thus, para-substituted bisbenzamidines containing more than six methylene groups (n>6) and with an odd number (n = 7, 9, 11) tended to form bilayered structures, whereas those containing an even number formed monolayers when adsorbed on SAMs of the long-chain acids (n = 14, 15). This behavior also correlated with the average tilt angle of the benzene moieties of the amphiphiles, as estimated by IRAS. The odd-numbered chains gave lower tilt angles than the even-numbered ones, and a possible model that accounts for these results is proposed. IRAS also revealed a higher order of the odd-numbered chains and an increasing hydrogen-bonding contribution with increasing chain length. Additional evidence for the proposed bilayered assemblies and their reversibility was obtained by AFM. Images obtained from the assembly of decamidine on a SAM of mercaptohexadecanoic acid in a pH 9 borate buffer revealed domains of similar size to that of the underlying acid SAM (20-30 nm), but less densely packed. By acidifying the solution, the second layer was destabilized and a very smooth layer with few defects appeared. Further acidification to pH 3 also destabilized the first layer.  相似文献

In this paper, six kinds of activated carbons such as Ag^+-activated carbon,Cu^2+activated carbon,Fe^3+-activated carbon, activated carbon,Ba^2+-activated carbon and Ca^2+activated carbon were prepared. The model for estimating activated energy of desorption was established.Temperature-programmed desorption(TPD)experiments were conducted to measure the TPD curves of n-hexanol and then estimate the activation energy for desorption of n-hexanol on the activated carbons. Results showed that the activation energy for the desorption of n-hexanol on the Ag^+-activated carbon, the Cu^2+-activated carbon and the Fe^3+-activated carbon were higher than those of n-hexanol on the activated carbon, the Ca^2+-activated carbon and the Ba^2+-activated carbon.  相似文献
