A piezoelectric-piezomagnetic superlattice (PPS) is proposed to present the magneto-electric (ME) coupling wherein electric polarization induces magnetization or vice versa through the layer's coherent strain. We reveal that in PPS, the interaction of electromagnetic waves with the correspondent alternative piezoelectric and piezomagnetic superlattices through their vibrations excites the piezoelectric and the piezomagnetic phonon polaritons simultaneously. The polaritons couple with each other to give rise to a stop band, in which double negative permittivity and permeability can be realized, however negative refraction could not occur. The coupling also results in the huge dynamic ME effect which attributes to the large ME voltage coefficient in a BaTiO3-CoFe2O4 superlattice as large as 14.9 V cm−1 Oe−1. 相似文献

The surface and interface phonon-polaritons in freestanding rectangular quantum well wire systems consisting of polar ternary mixed crystals are investigated in the modified random-element-isodisplacement model and the Born–Huang approximation, based on the Maxwell's equations with the boundary conditions. The numerical results of the surface and interface phonon-polariton frequencies as functions of the wave-vector, geometric structure, and the composition of the ternary mixed crystals in GaAs/AlxGa1−xAs and ZnxCd1−xSe/ZnSe quantum well wire systems are obtained and discussed. It is shown that there are 10 and 8 branches of surface and interface phonon-polaritons in the two quantum well wire systems respectively. The effects of the “two-mode” and “one-mode” behaviors of the ternary mixed crystals on the surface and interface phonon-polariton modes are shown in the dispersion curves. 相似文献

One and two mode behaviors of surface phonon-polaritons of ternary mixed crystal (TMC) films are studied in the framework of the modified random-element-isodisplacement model and the Born-Huang approximation, based on the Maxwell's equations with the usual boundary conditions. The numerical results for the frequencies and splitting energies of the surface phonon-polaritons as functions of the composition in several II-VI and III-V compound semiconductor ternary mixed crystal films are obtained. The “two-mode” and “one-mode” behaviors for different types of systems are clearly shown in the curves of the splitting energies of surface phonon-polaritons. The theoretical conclusion obtained is agreement with the reported experiment results for bulk TMC systems. 相似文献

The effect of disorder on the polaritonic states in organic microcavities utilizing J aggregates of cyanine dyes is examined. The comparison between the elastic mean free path, the phase breaking length and the wavelength of polaritons shows that, by varying two control parameters, one can achieve different regimes of cavity polariton propagation and localization (including weak and strong localization) in one sample at room temperature. We analyze the role of different parameters of the sample in the possibility of realization of each regime. 相似文献

We study the transmission properties of light through the symmetric Fibonacci photonic multilayers, i.e, a binary one-dimensional quasiperiodic structure, made up of both positive (SiO2) and negative refractive index materials with a mirror symmetry. These spectra are calculated by using a theoretical model based on the transfer matrix approach for normal incidence geometry, in which many perfect transmission peaks (the transmission coefficients are equal to the unity) are numerically obtained. Besides, the transmission coefficient exhibits a six-cycle self-similar behavior with respect to the generation number of the Fibonacci sequence. 相似文献

Instabilities in the electric field at the QW in the active region of a GaAs based microcavity have been investigated under the resonance excitation near the inflection point of the low polariton (LP) dispersion curve with the use of four wave mixing technique. The electric field jump due to an LP bistability has been found to precede the development of a stimulated parametric scattering of LPs. The latter has been found to develop with a delay of a few hundreds ps from the beginning of the excitation pulse. These results are in qualitative agreement with hard regime of excitation of the stimulated parametric LP scattering predicted recently. 相似文献

By comparing a kinetic and a thermal-equilibrium theory of polariton Bose-Einstein condensation, we study under what conditions the dynamical condensation under steady-state non-resonant pumping can approach thermal equilibrium. In particular, we study the dependence on two material parameters: the vacuum-field Rabi-splitting and the polariton radiative lifetime. When increasing the Rabi splitting, condensation takes place under strong non-equilibrium conditions, with dominating quantum fluctuations. Increasing the polariton lifetime above 10 ps at moderate Rabi splitting, instead, produces a quasi-equilibrium condensate at low exciton density, consistently with the picture of a weakly interacting Bose gas. 相似文献

We analyse the spatial and temporal coherence properties of a two-dimensional and finite sized polariton condensate with parameters tailored to the recent experiments which have shown spontaneous and thermal equilibrium polariton condensation in a CdTe microcavity [J. Kasprzak, M. Richard, S. Kundermann, A. Baas, P. Jeambrun, J.M.J. Keeling, F.M. Marchetti, M.H. Szymanska, R. Andre, J.L. Staehli, et al., Nature 443 (7110) (2006) 409]. We obtain a theoretical estimate of the thermal length, the lengthscale over which full coherence effectively exists (and beyond which power-law decay of correlations in a two-dimensional condensate occurs), of the order of 5 μm. In addition, the exponential decay of temporal coherence predicted for a finite size system is consistent with that found in the experiment. From our analysis of the luminescence spectra of the polariton condensate, taking into account pumping and decay, we obtain a dispersionless region at small momenta of the order of 4 degrees. In addition, we determine the polariton linewidth as a function of the pump power. Finally, we discuss how, by increasing the exciton-photon detuning, it is in principle possible to move the threshold for condensation from a region of the phase diagram where polaritons can be described as a weakly interacting Bose gas to a region where instead the composite nature of polaritons becomes important. 相似文献

The magnetic polariton propagation in metamagnet layered structures is theoretically studied by using a transfer matrix approach. The layered structures considered here are made up by the stacking of two different layers (also known as building blocks, named A and B), where one of them is a metamagnetic thin film (A), while the other is a non-magnetic insulator thin layer (B). We take into account both the antiferromagnetic (AFM) and ferromagnetic (FM) phases of the metamagnetic material. For the periodic arrangement, the bulk modes are characterized by two large symmetric bands, with non-reciprocal surface modes between them. The quasiperiodic metamagnetic structure is then built up by following the Fibonacci sequence, whose long-range order effect is then investigated, giving rise to an interesting self-similar spectra and a power-law profile. 相似文献

The optical response of the intersubband excitation of multiple InAs/AlSb quantum wells embedded in a planar semiconductor microcavity has been studied through angle-dependent reflectance measurements. Using a resonator based on total internal reflection, a strong coupling is demonstrated between the intersubband optical transition and the cavity photon, with the attendant formation of intersubband polaritons. A giant vacuum-Rabi splitting 2ΩR was observed both at liquid helium temperatures () as well as at 300 K (), for a transition energy . The observed ratio is a record high value (14%) for any strongly-coupled systems, and demonstrates the huge potential of this material for the achievement of the ultra-strong coupling regime predicted theoretically. 相似文献

The results of theoretical investigations of two-channel waveguide modulator based on Surface Wave (SW) propagation are presented. The structure studied consists of twon-type semiconductor waveguide channels separated from each other by a dielectric gap and coated by a metal. The SW propagates at the semiconductormetal interface across an external magnetic field which is parallel to the interface. An external de voltage is applied to the metal surface of one channel to provide a small phase shift between two propagating modes. In a coupled mode approximation, two possible regimes of operation of the structure, namely as a directional coupler and as an electro-optical modulator, are considered. Our results suggest new applications in millimeter and submillimeter wave solid-state electronics and integrated optics. 相似文献

One-dimensional photonic crystals with a defect layer of CdS were fabricated. The observed enhancement of two-photon absorption (TPA) in the CdS layer can be attributed to the intensified optical field confined within the defect layer of the photonic crystal. The results show that the enhancement of TPA coefficient depends basically on the number of periods of the photonic crystal and the defect mode position in the photonic band gap. The observation agrees qualitatively with the expectations of a computation by matrix transfer formulation. 相似文献

The transparency, reflection and luminescence spectra of In0.3Ga0.7As structures with 8 nm thickness and quantum wells limited by the barrier layer GaAs of a 9 nm (upper layer) and 100 nm (bottom layer) thickness had been studied in the region of photon energy 0.5–1.6 eV. Lines associated with the transitions hh,lh1-e1(1s,2s,3s), hh2,lh2-e2(1s,2s,3s), hh1,lh1-e2(1s) and hh3,lh3-e3(1s) had been revealed in reflection spectra. The shapes of the reflection and transparency lines had been calculated using a single oscillator model of dispersion relations and the Kramers–Kronig integrals. The binding energy of hh,lh1-e1 excitons, the effective mass mhh∗ and mlh∗ and the damping factor for the optical transitions to QW and QD had been determined. The lifetime of charge carriers on quantum dots varies in the range of 0.04–0.1 ps, while the radiative lifetime of excitons in quantum wells in the considered structure is around 2 ps. 相似文献

The electromagnetic modes of planar metal clad dielectric waveguides containing an n-doped quantum well (QW) are studied theoretically. Special attention is paid on the coupling between metal surface plasmons and intersubband plasmons and the manifestation of this coupling in the propagation characteristics of metal/QW/dielectric and multimode metal/QW/dielectric/metal waveguide structures. The results obtained indicate that the modification of the propagation characteristic induced by the above-mentioned coupling is substantial only in the case of metal/QW/dielectric waveguide structures. 相似文献
