New peptide from seeds of <Emphasis Type=Italic>Cicer arietinum</Emphasis>

The pure peptide YZDCM was isolated from seeds of Cicer arietinum and assigned to the homologous class of defensins according to molecular weight and N-terminus amino-acid sequence.     

A new cyclic peptide from the marine fungal strain <Emphasis Type=Italic>Aspergillus</Emphasis> sp<Emphasis Type=Italic>.</Emphasis> AF119

A new cyclic heptapeptide containing γ-aminobutyric acid in the ring, namely unguisin E (1), was isolated from the fermentation culture of Aspergillus sp. AF119. The structure was elucidated by spectroscopic analyses, including 1D and 2D NMR experiments, and HR ESI-Q-TOF mass spectrometry, and by comparison with those reported. Compound 1 was evaluated for its antimicrobial activities by the paper diffusion method.     

New flavanone and other constituents of <Emphasis Type=Italic>Helichrysum arenarium</Emphasis> indigenous to China

A new flavonoid for which the structure (2S)-5,8,4'-trihydroxy-6,7-vinylenedioxyflavanone was established and the known compounds stigmasterol, stigmasterol β-D-glucopyranoside, caffeic acid ethyl ester, and 3,4-methylenedioxycinnamic acid were isolated from Helichrysum arenarium.     

A new xanthone from <Emphasis Type=Italic>Penicillium oxalicum</Emphasis>

A new tetrasubstituted xanthone (6,8-dihydroxy-3-methyl-9-oxo-9H-xanthene-1-carboxylic acid), together with four known compounds, was isolated from the EtOAc extract of Penicillium oxalicum. Their structures were elucidated by spectrometric and chemical methods, including ESI-MS and one- and two-dimensional NMR experiments.     

Comparative characteristics of water-soluble proteins from <Emphasis Type=Italic>Larix sibirica</Emphasis>, <Emphasis Type=Italic>Picea obovata</Emphasis>, and <Emphasis Type=Italic>Abies sibirica</Emphasis> bud meristem

The amount of water-soluble proteins in bud meristem of Larix sibirica L., Picea obovata L., and Abies sibirica L. was shown to increase by 2-3 times in autumn during development of low-temperature resistance. The fractional composition of water-soluble proteins of the studied species and the amino-acid composition of groups of water-soluble proteins with different molecular weight (MW) were similar. Nitrogen accumulated as aspartic acid, glycine, and alanine in high- and medium-molecular-weight proteins. The peptides (MW < 5 kDa) typically had a high content of hydrophobic proline and hydrophilic tyrosine.     

Two new eudesmanes from <Emphasis Type=Italic>Inula helenium</Emphasis>

Two new eudesmanes, 1α-hydroxy-11,13-dihydroisoalantolactone (1), 3α-hydroxy-11,13dihydroalantolactone (2), and one known compound were isolated from the roots of Inula helenium. Their structures were established on the basis of spectral evidence.
