Ferromagnetic spin chains of a hexagonal lattice coupled by a weak antiferromagnetic interaction J1 develop a helix arrangement if the intrachain antiferromagnetic NNN exchange J2 is sufficiently large. We show that the classical minimum energy spin configuration is an umbrella when an external magnetic field is applied. The scenario is dramatically changed by quantum fluctuations. Indeed we find that the zero point motion forces the spins in a plane containing the magnetic field so that classical expectation is deceptive for our model. Our result is obtained by controlled expansion in the low field-long wavelength modulation limit. Received: 9 September 1997 / Revised: 15 October 1997 / Accepted: 17 November 1997  相似文献

We study the time evolution of entanglement of two spins in an anisotropically coupled quantum dot interacting with the unpolarised nuclear spins environment. We assume that the exchange coupling strength in the z direction J z is different from the lateral one J l . We observe that the entanglement decays as a result of the coupling to the nuclear environment and reaches a saturation value, which depends on the value of the exchange interaction difference J = ‖J l ? J z ‖ between the two spins and the strength of the applied external magnetic field. We find that the entanglement exhibits a critical behaviour controlled by the competition between the exchange interaction J and the external magnetic field. The entanglement shows a quasi-symmetric behaviour above and below a critical value of the exchange interaction. It becomes more symmetric as the external magnetic field increases. The entanglement reaches a large saturation value, close to unity, when the exchange interaction is far above or below its critical value and a small one as it closely approaches the critical value. Furthermore, we find that the decay rate profile of entanglement is linear when the exchange interaction is much higher or lower than the critical value but converts to a power law and finally to a Gaussian as the critical value is approached from both directions. The dynamics of entanglement is found to be independent of the exchange interaction for an isotropically coupled quantum dot.  相似文献

In a magnetic field, spin-ladders undergo two zero-temperature phase transitions at the critical fields Hc1 and Hc2. An experimental review of static and dynamical properties of spin-ladders close to these critical points is presented. The scaling functions, universal to all quantum critical points in one-dimension, are extracted from (a) the thermodynamic quantities (magnetization) and (b) the dynamical functions (NMR relaxation). A simple mapping of strongly coupled spin ladders in a magnetic field on the exactly solvable XXZ model enables to make detailed fits and gives an overall understanding of a broad class of quantum magnets in their gapless phase (between Hc1 and Hc2). In this phase, the low temperature divergence of the NMR relaxation demonstrates its Luttinger liquid nature as well as the novel quantum critical regime at higher temperature. The general behavior close these quantum critical points can be tied to known models of quantum magnetism. Received: 13 March 1998 / Received in final form and Accepted: 21 July 1998  相似文献

Magnetic with anisotropic antiferromagnetic exchange interactions and special topology of coupling in the square lattice with spins pairs ordering is studied by quantum Monte Carlo method. The antiferromagnetic order is found to be more stable as compared to spin liquid state. Exchange interactions and wave vector of structure modulation for Cu3B2O6 is estimated. Neel temperature versus strength of exchange in spin pair is calculated. Plateau and modulation of magnetic structure in field magnetization dependence is revealed.  相似文献

We study the “mixed spin” isotropic ladder system having S=1 spins on one leg and S=1/2 spins on the other, with general-type exchange interactions between spins on neighboring rungs. A set of model Hamiltonians with exact ground states in the form of a certain matrix product wave function is obtained. We show that sufficiently strong frustration can lead to exotic singlet ground states with infinite (exponential) degeneracy. We also list a couple of rather simple models with nontrivial ground states, including a model with only bilinear exchange. Received: 2 December 1997 / Accepted: 28 January 1998  相似文献

The energy of a square planar rotator model of spins interacting via dipolar forces is minimized by infinite inequivalent configurations corresponding to spins arranged on four interpenetrating sublattices making angles , , , with a reference axis, being arbitrary. This infinite degeneracy of the ground state is accidental in nature and one expects that it is removed by thermal fluctuations in agreement with Monte Carlo simulation. Indeed we find that the elementary excitation energies which depend on lead to a free energy which is a function of with minima at and corresponding to columnar configurations. This selection of columnar configurations out of the infinite ground state manifold is an example of order by thermal disorder. Received 4 August 1998  相似文献

We study the effect of quantum fluctuations in an Ising spin system on a scale-free network of degree exponent γ>5 using a quantum Monte Carlo simulation technique. In our model, one can adjust the magnitude of the magnetic field perpendicular to the Ising spin direction and can therefore control the strength of quantum fluctuations for each spin. Our numerical analysis shows that quantum fluctuations reduce the transition temperature Tc of the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic phase transition. However, the phase transition belongs to the same mean-field type universality class both with and without the quantum fluctuations. We also study the role of hubs by turning on the quantum fluctuations exclusively at the nodes with the most links. When only a small number of hub spins fluctuate quantum mechanically, Tc decreases with increasing magnetic field until it saturates at high fields. This effect becomes stronger as the number of hub spins increases. In contrast, quantum fluctuations at the same number of “non-hub” spins do not affect Tc. This implies that the hubs play an important role in maintaining order in the whole network.  相似文献

Curved π bowl compounds represent another class of the completely conjugated materials with quantum dot nature. Non-equivalent hybridisation type from rim to hub carbon atoms in curved π bowl compound triggers anisotropic physical properties. With density functional method (CAM-B3LYP) and response theory calculations, curved π bowl compounds exhibit large radial and axial component ratio for its polarisability and the second hyperpolarisability. More importantly, they possess larger effective mass second hyperpolarisability (γmass) and nondiagonal components (γxxyy) compared to C60. Except the static properties, the dispersion characters of dynamic cubic response of curved π bowl compounds have been analysed in large frequency range.  相似文献

In order to understand the magnetic field-induced restoration of a highly conductive state in , static (SQUID) and dynamic (ESR and AFR) magnetization measurements were performed on polycrystalline samples and single crystals, respectively. In addition, cantilever and resistivity measurements under steady fields were performed. While the metal-insulator transition curve of the () phase diagram exhibits a first order character, a “spin-flop” transition line divides the insulating state when the magnetic field is applied along the easy axis of magnetization. The effects of a RKKY-type indirect exchange and of applied magnetic field are described within the framework of a generalized Kondo lattice, namely two chains of localised spins coupled through the itinerant spins of the 2D sheets of BETS. The calculations, which can incorporate intramolecular electron correlations within a mean field theory, are in qualitative agreement with the field induced transition from the antiferromagnetic insulating ground state to a canted one, i.e. a not fully oriented paramagnetic, but metallic state. We study the magnetic relaxation of a system of localized spins interacting through weak dipole interactions, at a temperature large with respect to the ordering temperature but low with respect to the crystal field level splitting. The relaxation results from quantum spin tunneling but is only allowed on sites where the dipole field is very small. At low times, the magnetization decrease is proportional to as predicted by Prokofiev and Stamp, and at long times the relaxation can be described as an extension of a relaxed zone. The results can be directly compared with very recent experimental data on Fe8 molecular clusters. Received 9 February 1999  相似文献

Triangular anisotropic Heisenberg antiferromagnet shares with the triangular planar antiferromagnet the rich phenomenology found in presence of an external magnetic field. The physical interest in the triangular Heisenberg model is obvious because the planar model has not the quantum analogous one and, more seriously, it does not allow out-of-plane fluctuations so that it provides a very rough representation of actual magnetic insulators. Indeed, we show that magnetic resonance data on CsCuCl3 are satisfactorily understood on the basis of the properties of the quantum triangular Heisenberg antiferromagnet with easy-plane exchange anisotropy.  相似文献

In the replica symmetric approximation and static limit in Matsubara “imaginary time”, the quantum XY spin glass model with planar Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in longitudinal field is investigated. Several thermodynamic quantities are calculated numerically as well as spin self-interaction and spin glass order parameter for spin S=1/2. It is shown that the entropy is not independent of the field. A crossover behavior of the specific heat depending on temperature is found. There is a deviation from the parabolic approximation, C/T=A+Bh 2 . Received 11 March 1998  相似文献

In this work, we calculate the magnetocaloric effect in the compounds Gd(Zn1−xCdx). We use a model Hamiltonian of interacting spins in which the indirect exchange interaction parameter between localized spins was calculated as a function of Cd concentration. The calculated isothermal entropy changes and the adiabatic temperature changes upon magnetic field variations are in good agreement with the available experimental data.  相似文献

We show that the spin-and-space unrestricted Hartree-Fock method, in conjunction with the companion step of the restoration of spin and space symmetries via Projection Techniques (when such symmetries are broken), is able to describe the full range of couplings in two-dimensional double quantum dots, from the strong-coupling regime exhibiting delocalized molecular orbitals to the weak-coupling and dissociation regimes associated with a Generalized Valence Bond combination of atomic-type orbitals localized on the individual dots. The weak-coupling regime is always accompanied by an antiferromagnetic ordering of the spins of the individual dots. The cases of dihydrogen (H2, 2e) and dilithium (Li2, 6e) quantum dot molecules are discussed in detail. Received 19 December 2000  相似文献

Spin correlations are carefully investigated in elastic e+e- scattering in QED, for initially polarized as well as unpolarized particles, with emphasis placed on energy or speed of the underlying particles involved in the process. An explicit expression is derived for the corresponding transition probabilities in closed form to the leading order. These expressions differ from those obtained from simply combining the spins of the relevant particles, which are of kinematic nature. It is remarkable that these explicit results obtained from quantum field theory show a clear violation of Bell's inequality at all energies, in support of quantum theory in the relativistic regime. We hope that our explicit expression will lead to experiments, of the type described in the bulk of this paper, that monitor speed.  相似文献

The zero-temperature TAP equations for the spin-1 Ghatak-Sherrington model are investigated. The spin-glass energy density (ground state) is determined as a function of the anisotropy crystal field D for a large number of spins. This allows us to locate a first-order transition between the spin-glass and paramagnetic phases within a good accuracy. The total number of solutions is also determined as a function of D. A two-site double exchange model with a single polaron is studied using a perturbation expansion based on the modified Lang-Firsov transformation. The antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic transition and the crossover from small to large polaron are investigated for different values of the antiferromagnetic interaction (J) between the core spins and the hopping (t) of the itinerant electron. Effect of the external magnetic field on the small to large polaron crossover and on the polaronic kinetic energy are studied. When the magnetic transition and the small to large polaron crossover coincide for some suitable range of J/t, the magnetic field has very pronounced effect on the dynamics of polarons. In a p-spin interaction spherical spin-glass model both the spins and the couplings are allowed to change with time. The spins are coupled to a heat bath with temperature T, while the coupling constants are coupled to a bath having temperature TJ. In an adiabatic limit (where relaxation time of the couplings is much larger that of the spins) we construct a generalized two-temperature thermodynamics. It involves entropies of the spins and the coupling constants. The application for spin-glass systems leads to a standard replica theory with a non-vanishing number of replicas, n=T/T J . For p>2 there occur at low temperatures two different glassy phases, depending on the value of n. The obtained first-order transitions have positive latent heat, and positive discontinuity of the total entropy. This is an essentially non-equilibrium effect. The dynamical phase transition exists only for n<1. For p=2 correlation of the disorder (leading to a non-zero n) removes the known marginal stability of the spin glass phase. If the observation time is very large there occurs no finite-temperature spin glass phase. In this case there are analogies with the non-equilibrium (aging) dynamics. A generalized fluctuation-dissipation relation is derived. Received 12 July 1999 and Received in final form 8 December 1999  相似文献

Antiferromagnetic Co3O4 nanoparticles with diameter around 30 nm have been synthesized by a solution-based method. The phase identification by the wide-angle X-ray powder diffraction indicates that the Co3O4 nanoparticle has a cubic spinel structure with a lattice constant of 0.80843(2) nm. The image of field emission scanning electron microscope shows that the nanoparticles are assembled together to form nanorods. The magnetic properties of Co3O4 fine particles have been measured by a superconducting quantum interference device magnetometer. A deviation of the Néel temperature from the bulk is observed, which can be well described by the theory of finite-size scaling. An enhanced coercivity as well as a loop shift are observed in the field-cooled hysteresis loop. The exchange bias field decreases with increasing temperature and diminishes at the Néel temperature. The training effect and the opening of the loop reveal the existence of the spin-glass-like surface spins.  相似文献
