An a posteriori error analysis for Boussinesq equations is derived in this article. Then we compare this new estimate with a previous one developed for a regularized version of Boussinesq equations in a previous work. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In this paper we analyze, from the numerical point of view, a dynamic thermoelastic problem. Here, the so-called exact heat conduction model with a delay term is used to obtain the heat evolution. Thus, the thermomechanical problem is written as a coupled system of partial differential equations, and its variational formulation leads to a system written in terms of the velocity and the temperature fields. An existence and uniqueness result is recalled. Then, fully discrete approximations are introduced by using the classical finite element method to approximate the spatial variable and the implicit Euler scheme to discretize the time derivatives. A priori error estimates are proved, from which the linear convergence of the algorithm could be derived under suitable additional regularity conditions. Finally, a two-dimensional numerical example is solved to show the accuracy of the approximation and the decay of the discrete energy.  相似文献

In this paper, we numerically analyse a phase-lag model with two temperatures which arises in the heat conduction theory. The model is written as a linear partial differential equation of third order in time. The variational formulation, written in terms of the thermal acceleration, leads to a linear variational equation, for which we recall an existence and uniqueness result and an energy decay property. Then, using the finite element method to approximate the spatial variable and the implicit Euler scheme to discretize the time derivatives, fully discrete approximations are introduced. A discrete stability property is proved, and a priori error estimates are obtained, from which the linear convergence of the approximation is derived. Finally, some one-dimensional numerical simulations are described to demonstrate the accuracy of the approximation and the behaviour of the solution.  相似文献

In this article, we study error estimates for approximate solutions of POD Galerkin type for the equations for the motion of a nonstationary viscous thermally conducting fluid in a bounded domain. Time discretization is based on backward Euler scheme. We study both the fully implicit and semi‐implicit versions of this scheme. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, we construct an a posteriori error estimator for expanded mixed hybrid finite‐element methods for second‐order elliptic problems. An a posteriori error analysis yields reliable and efficient estimate based on residuals. In this paper, we study the numerical methods for optimal control problems governed by elliptic PDEs with pointwise observations of the state. The first order optimality conditions as well as regularities of the solutions are derived. The optimal control and adjoint state have low regularities due to the pointwise observations. For the finite dimensional approximation, we use the standard conforming piecewise linear finite elements to approximate the state and adjoint state variables, whereas variational discretization is applied to the discretization of the control. A priori and a posteriori error estimates for the optimal control, the state and adjoint state are obtained. Numerical experiments are also provided to confirm our theoretical results. In this article, we propose and analyze a new mixed variational formulation for the stationary Boussinesq problem. Our method, which uses a technique previously applied to the Navier–Stokes equations, is based first on the introduction of a modified pseudostress tensor depending nonlinearly on the velocity through the respective convective term. Next, the pressure is eliminated, and an augmented approach for the fluid flow, which incorporates Galerkin‐type terms arising from the constitutive and equilibrium equations, and from the Dirichlet boundary condition, is coupled with a primal‐mixed scheme for the main equation modeling the temperature. In this way, the only unknowns of the resulting formulation are given by the aforementioned nonlinear pseudostress, the velocity, the temperature, and the normal derivative of the latter on the boundary. An equivalent fixed‐point setting is then introduced and the corresponding classical Banach Theorem, combined with the Lax–Milgram Theorem and the Babu?ka–Brezzi theory, are applied to prove the unique solvability of the continuous problem. In turn, the Brouwer and the Banach fixed‐point theorems are used to establish existence and uniqueness of solution, respectively, of the associated Galerkin scheme. In particular, Raviart–Thomas spaces of order k for the pseudostress, continuous piecewise polynomials of degree ≤ k+1 for the velocity and the temperature, and piecewise polynomials of degree ≤ k for the boundary unknown become feasible choices. Finally, we derive optimal a priori error estimates, and provide several numerical results illustrating the good performance of the augmented mixed‐primal finite element method and confirming the theoretical rates of convergence. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Finite element methods are used to solve a coupled system of nonlinear partial differential equations, which models incompressible miscible displacement in porous media. Through a backward finite difference discretization in time, we define a sequentially implicit time-stepping algorithm that uncouples the system at each time-step. The Galerkin method is employed to approximate the pressure, and accurate velocity approximations are calculated via a post-processing technique involving the conservation of mass and Darcy's law. A stabilized finite element ( SUPG ) method is applied to the convection–diffusion equation delivering stable and accurate solutions. Error estimates with quasi-optimal rates of convergence are derived under suitable regularity hypotheses. Numerical results are presented confirming the predicted rates of convergence for the post-processing technique and illustrating the performance of the proposed methodology when applied to miscible displacements with adverse mobility ratios. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In this work, we study, from the numerical point of view, a type III thermoelastic model with double porosity. The thermomechanical problem is written as a linear system composed of hyperbolic partial differential equations for the displacements and the two porosities, and a parabolic partial differential equation for the thermal displacement. An existence and uniqueness result is recalled. Then, we perform its a priori error numerical analysis approximating the resulting variational problem by using the finite element method and the implicit Euler scheme. The linear convergence of the algorithm is derived under suitable additional regularity conditions. Finally, some numerical simulations are shown to demonstrate the accuracy of the approximations and the dependence of the solution on a coupling coefficient.  相似文献

This work presents a collection of global and iterative finite element procedures for the numerical approximation of coupled seismic and electromagnetic waves in 2D bounded fluid‐saturated porous media, with absorbing boundary conditions at the artificial boundaries. The equations being analyzed are the coupled Biot's equations of motion and Maxwell equations in the diffusive range. Both seismoelectric and electroseismic coupling are simultaneously included and analyzed in the model. The case of compressional and vertically polarized shear waves coupled with the transverse magnetic polarization (PSVTM‐mode) is analyzed in detail, including the derivation of a priori error estimates on the global finite element procedure and results on the convergence of a domain decomposition iterative algorithm. Later, the corresponding results for the case of horizontally polarized shear waves coupled with the transverse electric polarization (SHTE‐mode) are stated. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We derive computable a posteriori error estimates for the lowest order nonconforming Crouzeix-Raviart element applied to the approximation of incompressible Stokes flow. The estimator provides an explicit upper bound that is free of any unknown constants, provided that a reasonable lower bound for the inf-sup constant of the underlying problem is available. In addition, it is shown that the estimator provides an equivalent lower bound on the error up to a generic constant.

In this article, we propose and study different mixed variational methods in order to approximate the Signorini problem with friction using finite elements. The discretized normal and tangential constraints at the contact interface are expressed by using either continuous piecewise linear or piecewise constant Lagrange multipliers in the saddle?point formulation. A priori error estimates are established and several numerical examples corresponding to the different choices of the discretized normal and tangential constraints are carried out. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, we propose and study different mixed variational methods in order to approximate with finite elements the unilateral problems arising in contact mechanics. The discretized unilateral conditions at the candidate contact interface are expressed by using either continuous piecewise linear or piecewise constant Lagrange multipliers in the saddle-point formulation. A priori error estimates are established and several numerical studies corresponding to the different choices of the discretized unilateral conditions are achieved.

Numerical simulation of industrial processes involving viscoelastic liquids is often based on finite element methods on quadrilateral meshes. However, numerical analysis of these methods has so far been limited to triangular meshes. In this work, we consider quadrilateral meshes. We first study the approximation of the transport equation by a Galerkin discontinuous method and prove an 𝒪(hk+1/2) error estimates for the Qk finite element. Then we study a differential model for viscoelastic flow with unknowns u the velocity, p the pressure, and σ the viscoelastic part of the extra-stress tensor. The approximations are ((Q1)2 transforms of) Qk+1 continuous for u, Qk discontinuous for σ, and Pk discontinuous for p, with k ≥ 1. Upwinding for σ is obtained by the Galerkin discontinuous method. We show that an error estimate of order 𝒪(hk+1/2) is valid in the energy norm for the three unknowns. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 14: 97–114, 1998  相似文献

We introduce a piecewise linear finite-element scheme with semi-implicittime discretization for an evolutionary phase field system modellingthe isothermal solidification process of a binary alloy. Thissystem can be written in a vectorial form as a nonlinear parabolicsystem. The convergence of the scheme with error estimate isthen proved by introducing a generalized vectorial ellipticprojector.  相似文献

In this study, numerical simulations of the improved Boussinesq equation are obtained using two finite difference schemes and two finite element methods, based on the second‐and third‐order time discretization. The methods are tested on the problems of propagation of a soliton and interaction of two solitons. After the L error norm is used to measure differences between the exact and numerical solutions, the results obtained by the proposed methods are compared with recently published results. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Katharina Witowski We derive a new a posteriori error estimator for the Lamésystem based on H(div)-conforming elements and equilibratedfluxes. It is shown that the estimator gives rise to an upperbound where the constant is one up to higher-order terms. Thelower bound is also established using Argyris elements. Thereliability and efficiency of the proposed estimator are confirmedby some numerical tests.  相似文献
