The boundary problem is considered which occurs in the theory of small transversal vibrations of a smooth inhomogeneous string. The ends of the string assumed to be fixed and the midpoint of the string is damped by a pointwise force. The problem is reduced to a spectral problem for a nonmonic quadratic operator pencil. The spectrum of the pencil (i. e. the set of normal eigenvalues) can be presented as a union of two subsequences. One of the subsequences approaches the real axis. Under an additional condition the second branch approaches a horizontal line located in the upper half–plane. The basis properties of the sets of projections (onto the corresponding subintervals) of eigenfunctions corresponding to each of the subsequences are investigated.  相似文献

The Boyer–Moore–Horspool string‐matching heuristic is an algorithm for locating occurrences of a fixed pattern in a random text. Under the assumption that the text is an independently and identically distributed sequence of characters, the probabilistic behavior of this algorithm was investigated by Mahmoud, Smythe, and Régnier [Random Struct Alg 10 (1997), 169–186]. Here, we obtain similar results under the assumption that the text is generated by an irreducible Markov chain. A natural Markov renewal process structure is exploited to obtain the asymptotic behavior of the number of comparisons. Under suitable normalization, it is shown that a central limit theorem holds for the number of comparisons. Let X be a compact manifold with boundary. It will be shown (Theorem 3.4) that the small Melrose algebra A? ?b,cl (χ,bΩ1/2) (cf. [22], [23]) of classical, totally characteristic pseudodifferential operators carries no topology such that it is a topological algebra with an open group of invertible elements, in particular, the algebra A cannot be spectrally invariant in any C* – algebra. On the other hand, the symbolic structure of A can be extended continuously to the C* – algebra B generated by A as a subalgebra of ζ(σbL2(χ, bΩ1/2)) by a generalization of a method of Gohberg and Krupnik. Furthermore, A is densely embedded in a Fréchet algebra A ? B which is a ?* – algebra in the sense of Gramsch [9, Definition 5.1], reflecting also smooth properties of the original algebra A.  相似文献

After a recent work on spectral properties and dispersion relations of the linearized classical Fokker–Planck–Landau operator [8], we establish in this paper analogous results for two more realistic collision operators: The first one is the Fokker–Planck–Landau collision operator obtained by relativistic calculations of binary interactions, and the second is a collision operator (of Fokker–Planck–Landau type) derived from the Boltzmann operator in which quantum effects have been taken into account. We apply Sobolev–Poincaré inequalities to establish the spectral gap of the linearized operators. Furthermore, the present study permits the precise knowledge of the behaviour of these linear Fokker–Planck–Landau operators including the transport part. Relations between the eigenvalues of these operators and the Fourier‐space variable in a neighbourhood of 0 are then investigated. This study is a first natural step when one looks for solutions near equilibrium and their hydrodynamic limit for the full non‐linear problem in all space in the spirit of several works [3, 6, 20, 2] on the non‐linear Boltzmann equation. The Rudin–Shapiro transform (RST) is a linear transform derived from the remarkable Rudin–Shapiro polynomials discovered in 1951. The transform has the notable property of forming a spread spectrum basis for , i.e. the basis vectors are sequences with a nearly flat power spectrum. It is also orthogonal and Hadamard, and it can be made symmetric. This presentation is partly a tutorial on the RST, partly some new results on the symmetric RST that makes the transform interesting from an applicational point-of-view. In particular, it is shown how to make a very simple O(NlogN) implementation, which is quite similar to the Haar wavelet packet transform.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is the study of a new sequence of positive linear approximation operators Mnλ on C([0, 1]) which generalize the classical Bernstein–Durrmeyer operators. After proving a Voronovskaja-type result, we show that there exists a strongly continuous positive contraction semigroup on C([0, 1]) which may be expressed in terms of powers of these operators. As a direct consequence, we are able to represent explicitly the solutions of the Cauchy problems associated with a particular class of second order differential operators.  相似文献

Time‐discrete variational schemes are introduced for both the Vlasov–Poisson–Fokker–Planck (VPFP) system and a natural regularization of the VPFP system. The time step in these variational schemes is governed by a certain Kantorovich functional (or scaled Wasserstein metric). The discrete variational schemes may be regarded as discretized versions of a gradient flow, or steepest descent, of the underlying free energy functionals for these systems. We address the problem of string matching on Ziv–Lempel compressed text. The goal is to search for a pattern in a text without uncompressing it. This is a highly relevant issue to keep compressed text databases where efficient searching is still possible. We develop a general technique for string matching when the text comes as a sequence of blocks. This abstracts the essential features of Ziv–Lempel compression. We then apply the scheme to each particular type of compression. We present an algorithm to find all the matches of a pattern in a text compressed using LZ77. When we apply our scheme to LZ78, we obtain a much more efficient search algorithm, which is faster than uncompressing the text and then searching it. Finally, we propose a new hybrid compression scheme which is between LZ77 and LZ78, being in practice as good to compress as LZ77 and as fast to search as LZ78. We show also how to search for some extended patterns on Ziv–Lempel compressed text, such as classes of characters and approximate string matching.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the vacuum free boundary problem of a compressible Navier–Stokes–Poisson system with density‐dependent viscosity. By introducing Eulerian and Lagrange energy, we obtain a local in time well‐posedness of the strong solution to the Navier–Stokes–Poisson system in a spherically symmetric case. Solvability of Cauchy's problem in for fractional Hamilton–Jacobi equation (1.1) with subcritical nonlinearity is studied here both in the classical Sobolev spaces and in the locally uniform spaces. The first part of the paper is devoted to the global in time solvability of subcritical equation (1.1) in locally uniform phase space, a generalization of the standard Sobolev spaces. Subcritical growth of the nonlinear term with respect to the gradient is considered. We prove next the global in time solvability in classical Sobolev spaces, in Hilbert case. In the present article, we consider a thermoelastic plate of Reissner–Mindlin–Timoshenko type with the hyperbolic heat conduction arising from Cattaneo's law. In the absence of any additional mechanical dissipations, the system is often not even strongly stable unless restricted to the rotationally symmetric case, and so on. We present a well‐posedness result for the linear problem under general mixed boundary conditions for the elastic and thermal parts. For the case of a clamped, thermally isolated plate, we show an exponential energy decay rate under a full damping for all elastic variables. Restricting the problem to the rotationally symmetric case, we further prove that a single frictional damping merely for the bending component is sufficient for exponential stability. To this end, we construct a Lyapunov functional incorporating the Bogovski? operator for irrotational vector fields, which we discuss in the appendix. In this paper we construct the conservation laws for the Camassa–Holm equation, the Dullin–Gottwald–Holm equation (DGH) and the generalized Dullin–Gottwald–Holm equation (generalized DGH). The variational derivative approach is used to derive the conservation laws. Only first order multipliers are considered. Two multipliers are obtained for the Camassa–Holm equation. For the DGH and generalized DGH equations the variational derivative approach yields two multipliers; thus two conserved vectors are obtained.  相似文献

We study Sturm–Liouville (SL) problems on an infinite number of intervals, adjacent endpoints are linked by means of boundary conditions, and characterize the conditions which determine self‐adjoint operators in a Hilbert space which is the direct sum of the spaces for each interval. These conditions can be regular or singular, separated or coupled. Furthermore, the inner products of the summand spaces may be multiples of the usual inner products with different spaces having different multiples. We also extend the GKN Theorem to cover the infinite number of intervals theory with modified inner products and discuss the connection between our characterization and the classical one with the usual inner products. In this paper, first, we prove the weighted Hermite–Hadamard–Mercer inequalities for convex functions, after we establish some new weighted inequalities connected with the right‐sides of weighted Hermite–Hadamard–Mercer type inequalities for differentiable functions whose derivatives in absolute value at certain powers are convex. We give equivalent forms of the Askey-Wilson polynomials expressing them with the help of the Al-Salam-Chihara polynomials. After restricting parameters of the Askey-Wilson polynomials to complex conjugate pairs we expand the Askey-Wilson weight function in the series similar to the Poisson-Mehler expansion formula and give its probabilistic interpretation. In particular this result can be used to calculate explicit forms of ‘q-Hermite’ moments of the Askey-Wilson density, hence enabling calculation of all moments of the Askey-Wilson density. On the way (by setting certain parameter q to 0) we get some formulae useful in the rapidly developing so-called ‘free probability’.  相似文献

Recently, norm equivalences between spherical polynomials and their sample values at scattered sites have been proved. These so-called Marcinkiewicz–Zygmund inequalities involve a parameter that characterizes the density of the sampling set and they are applicable to all polynomials whose degree does not exceed an upper bound that is determined by the density parameter. We show that if one is satisfied by norm equivalences that hold with prescribed probability only, then the upper bound for the degree of the admissible polynomials can be enlarged significantly and that then, moreover, there exist fixed sampling sets which work for polynomials of all degrees.  相似文献

A fluid–particles system of the compressible Navier‐Stokes equations and Vlasov‐Fokker‐Planck equation (including the case of Vlasov equation) in three‐dimensional space is considered in this paper. The coupling arises from a drag force exerted by the fluid onto the particles. We study a Cauchy problem with large data, and establish the existence of global weak solutions through an approximation scheme, energy estimates, and weak convergence. We study the long-time behaviour of solutions of the Vlasov–Poisson–Fokker–Planck equation for initial data small enough and satisfying some suitable integrability conditions. Our analysis relies on the study of the linearized problems with bounded potentials decaying fast enough for large times. We obtain global bounds in time for the fundamental solutions of such problems and their derivatives. This allows to get sharp bounds for the decay of the difference between the solutions of the Vlasov–Poisson–Fokker–Planck equation and the solution of the free equation with the same initial data. We consider the stability of an efficient Crank–Nicolson–Adams–Bashforth method in time, finite element in space, discretization of the Leray‐α model. We prove finite‐time stability of the scheme in L2, H1, and H2, as well as the long‐time L‐stability of the scheme under a Courant‐Freidrichs‐Lewy (CFL)‐type condition. Hysteresis operators have recently proved to be a powerful tool in modelling phase transition phenomena which are accompanied by the occurrence of hysteresis effects. In a series of papers, the present authors have proposed phase‐field models in which hysteresis non‐linearities occur at several places. A very important class of hysteresis operators studied in this connection is formed by the so‐called PrandtlIshlinskii operators. For these operators, the corresponding phase‐field systems are in the multi‐dimensional case only known to admit unique solutions if the characteristic convex sets defining the operators are polyhedrons. In this paper, we use approximation techniques to extend the known results to multi‐dimensional Prandtl–Ishlinskii operators having non‐polyhedral convex characteristicsets.
