We discuss the asymptotic behaviour of weak solutions to the Hele-Shaw and one-phase Stefan problems in exterior domains. We prove that, if the space dimension is greater than one, the asymptotic behaviour is given in both cases by the solution of the Dirichlet exterior problem for the Laplacian in the interior of the positivity set and by a singular, radial and self-similar solution of the Hele-Shaw flow near the free boundary. We also show that the free boundary approaches a sphere as , and give the precise asymptotic growth rate for the radius.

Let be a generalized body Schrödinger operator with very short range potentials. Using Melrose's scattering calculus, it is shown that the free channel `geometric' scattering matrix, defined via asymptotic expansions of generalized eigenfunctions of , coincides (up to normalization) with the free channel `analytic' scattering matrix defined via wave operators. Along the way, it is shown that the free channel generalized eigenfunctions of Herbst-Skibsted and Jensen-Kitada coincide with the plane waves constructed by Hassell and Vasy and if the potentials are very short range.

In this paper, we consider the inverse scattering problem of determining the shape of a cavity with a penetrable inhomogeneous medium of compact support from one source and a knowledge of measurements placed on a curve inside the cavity. First, the boundary value problem of the partial differential equations can be transformed into an equivalent system of nonlinear and ill-posed integral equations for the unknown boundary. Then, we apply the regularized Newton iterative method to reconstruct the boundary and prove the injectivity for the linearized system. Finally, we present some numerical examples to show the feasibility of our method.  相似文献

A brief review of asymptotic methods to deal with frictionless unilateral contact problems for an elastic layer of finite thickness is presented. Under the assumption that the contact radius is small with respect to the layer thickness, an effective asymptotic method is suggested for solving the unilateral contact problem with a priori unknown contact radius. A specific feature of the method is that the construction of an asymptotic approximation is reduced to a linear algebraic system with respect to integral characteristics (polymoments) of the contact pressure. We show that the solution of a semilinear transmission problem between an elastic and a thermoelastic material, decays exponentially to zero. That is, denoting by ?(t) the sum of the first, second and third order energy associated with the system, we show that there exist positive constants C and γsatisfying ?(t) ? The solution of the Robin problem in a finite domain for the system of equations modeling the bending of elastic plates with transverse shear deformation is approximated by means of a generalized Fourier series method closely connected to the structure of the boundary integral equation treatment of the problem. We consider the variational free boundary problem describing the contact of an elastic plate with a thin elastic obstacle. The contact domain is unknown a priori and should be determined. The problem is described by a variational inequality for a fourth-order operator. The constraint on the displacement is given on a set of dimension less than that of the solution domain. We find the boundary conditions on the set of the possible contact and their exact statement. We justify the mixed statement of the problem and analyze the limit cases corresponding to the unbounded increase of the elasticity coefficients of the contacting bodies.  相似文献

We extend the abstract time‐dependent scattering theory of C.H. Wilcox to the case of elastic waves. Most of the results are proved with the minimal assumption that the obstacle satisfies the energy local compactness condition (ELC). We consider a type of infinite-dimensional linear program posed over a measure space and called a capacity problem. This problem is related to that of finding the electrostatic capacity of a conducting body, and arises in certain types of two-person zero-sum games. The duality theory for this problem is discussed, and conditions are given under which the optimal solution is a measure with finite support. When solutions are restricted to be measures with finite support, a characterization of the extreme points of the feasible region is possible. This has implications for algorithms to solve the capacity problem.  相似文献

We consider the scattering of an electromagnetic time‐harmonic plane wave by an infinite cylinder having a mixed open crack (or arc) in R2 as the cross section. The crack is made up of two parts, and one of the two parts is (possibly) coated by a material with surface impedance λ. We transform the scattering problem into a system of boundary integral equations by adopting a potential approach, and establish the existence and uniqueness of a weak solution to the system by the Fredholm theory. In this paper we consider the inverse scattering problem for a cavity that is bounded by a partially coated penetrable inhomogeneous medium of compact support and recover the shape of the cavity and the surface conductivity from a knowledge of measured scattered waves due to point sources located on a curve or surface inside the cavity. First, we prove that both the shape of the cavity and the surface conductivity on the coated part can be uniquely determined from a knowledge of the measured data. Next, we establish a linear sampling method for determining both the shape of the cavity and the surface conductivity. A central role in our justification is played by an eigenvalue problem which we call the exterior transmission eigenvalue problem. Finally, we present some numerical examples to illustrate the validity of our method.  相似文献

The interior transmission problem appears naturally in the study of the inverse scattering problem of determining the shape of a penetrable medium from a knowledge of the time harmonic incident waves and the far field patterns of the scattered waves. We propose a variational study of this problem in the case of Maxwell's equations in an inhomogeneous anisotropic medium. Then we apply the obtained results to build an ‘extented far field’ operator and give a characterization of the medium from the knowledge of the range of this operator.
