This study presents an experimental investigation of nonlinear dynamics in a modified Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction, in which the addition of 1,4-benzoquinone induced various complex behaviors such as mixed-mode oscillations and consecutive period-adding bifurcations. In addition, the presence of 1,4-benzoquinone significantly enhanced the photosensitivity of the ferroin-catalyzed BZ system, in which light-induced transitions between simple and complex oscillations have been achieved. Mechanistic study suggests that the influence of benzoquinone may arise from its interactions with the metal catalyst ferroin/ferriin, where cyclic voltammograms illustrate that the presence of benzoquinone causes an increase in the redox potential of ferroin/ferriin couple, which may consequently alternate the oxidation and reduction paths of the catalyst.  相似文献

The ferroin-catalyzed Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction was studied in a batch reactor under anaerobic conditions and was found to evolve through two separated regimes of complex oscillations. Significantly, the two bifurcation regimes exhibited qualitatively different dependence on compositions of the reaction mixture, i.e., initial concentrations of bromate, sulfuric acid, malonic acid, and ferroin. The reaction temperature also showed opposite effects on the two bifurcation regimes, in which complexities of the first bifurcation regime were enhanced while oscillations in the second bifurcation regime became simpler as a result of decreasing temperature. Numerical simulations with a 12-variable model developed specifically for the ferroin-BZ system were able to reproduce transient complex oscillations observed in experiments. These calculations further illustrated that reactions such as ferroin and HOBr, ferroin and HBrO2, and ferriin and Br- were not essential in describing complex dynamics of the ferroin-BZ reaction.  相似文献

Three new types of discontinuously propagating waves are reported in the bathoferroin-catalyzed Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction dispersed in water-in-oil Aerosol OT microemulsion. Jumping waves (JWs) are typically observed at or above room temperature and develop from the familiar trigger waves. Bubble waves (BWs) typically emerge from trigger or JWs at similar temperatures, while rotating waves (RWs) evolve from JW at higher temperatures (>40 degrees C). All these waves propagate discontinuously in a saltatory fashion. Other characteristic features include a discontinuous front for BW consisting of small concentric waves (bubbles) and lateral rotation of annular RWs. All three types of waves, as well as segmented but continuously propagating waves, can coexist. A simple model that is able to describe both jumping and segmented waves is described.  相似文献

The ferroin-catalyzed Belousov-Zhabotinsky(BZ) reaction, the oxidation of malonic acid by acidic bromate,is the most commonly investigated chemical system for understanding spatial pattern forma-tion. Various oscillatory behaviors were found from such as mixed-mode and simple period-doubling oscillations and chaos on both Pt electrode and Br-ISE at high flow rates to mixed-mode oscillations on Br-ISE only at low flow rates. The complex dynamic behaviors were qualitatively reproduced with a two-cycle coupling model proposed initially by Gy?rgyi and Field. This investigation offered a proper medium for studying pattern formation under complex temporal dynamics. In addition,it also shows that complex oscillations and chaos in the BZ reaction can be extended to other bromate-driven nonlinear reaction systems with different metal catalysts.  相似文献

A new theory of the Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction, the Radicalator model, is presented. This model is based on a negative feedback loop involving a fast reaction between malonyl and bromine dioxide radicals. Experimental evidence for the validity of the model is given for BZ systems in 3 M and 1 M sulfuric acid solution.  相似文献

The phenomenon of anharmonicity has been proved to be an effect of coupling between the change of nuclear positions in molecular vibrations ( Q ) and the electronic degrees of freedom as represented by the chemical potential (μ) at constant number of electrons (N). The coupling parameters have well‐founded meaning in the conceptual density functional theory (DFT), first approximations to their numerical values have recently become available. The effect of coupling between normal vibrational modes also appears to be the direct consequence of the electron‐nuclear coupling. To show the pure anharmonic effect, calculations for a collection of diatomic molecules have been presented. The anharmonicity, described in the present work as d3E/d Q 3 ≠ 0, has been proved to be the intrinsic property of every oscillating molecular system. A small anharmonic contribution exists even for the “strong harmonic” oscillator, when for the force constant k both a = (?k/? Q )N = 0 and λ = (?k/?N) Q = 0. The latter derivative of the force constant appears to be primary factor determining the anharmonic property of a molecule. An estimate of its values has been provided from the experimental data on the anharmonicity of diatomic molecules. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Quantum Chem, 2004  相似文献

A new approach is presented for analyzing kinetic models of relaxation-type oscillatory systems on the basis of numerical data. Feature sensitivities of the length of the two kinetic states of the Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction with respect to the rate constants of the model are explained by means of a logic-based inference system. The main kinetic roles of the individual reaction steps on the relaxing components are revealed, and a consistent interpretation of the kinetic states is given by this process. Both the high and the low set of rate constants were studied. According to our analysis, the bromous acid-hypobromous acid reaction is an important Br? producing step of the model, and in the case of the low set, the bromate-bromous acid reaction is not the rate-determining step of the bromous acid autocatalysis.  相似文献

The supramolecular interaction of rubidate (chemically 2,3-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, 1,4-dihydroxy-diethyl ester) and beta-cyclodextrin (beta-CD) has been studied by spectrofluorimetry. The influence of temperature on the supramolecular system has also been investigated and the thermodynamic parameters were calculated. The results show that beta-CD reacts with rubidate to form a 1:1 host-guest complex with an apparent association constant of 566+/-23 l mol(-1). It was also demonstrated that the thermodynamics of beta-CD-rubidate complex displayed a compensatory enthalpy-entropy relationship. Based on the significant enhancement of the fluorescence intensity of rubidate produced through complex formation, a spectrofluorimetric method for the determination of rubidate in bulk aqueous solution in the presence of beta-CD was developed. The linear relationship between the fluorescence intensity and rubidate concentration was obtained in the range from 2.7x10(-2) to 3.0 mug ml(-1), with a correlation coefficient of 0.9988. The detection limit was 8.2 ng ml(-1) and the relative standard deviation was 1.6%. There was no interference from the excipients normally used in tablet formulations. The application of the present method to the determination of rubidate in tablets gave satisfactory results and was compared with the reference method.  相似文献

The effect of electromagnetic radiation with a frequency close to the maximum of absorption of atmospheric oxygen on the Briggs-Rauscher self-oscillating reaction is described. It is shown that the radiation intensifies oxygen production and lengthens the duration of the self-oscillating regime by more than 20%.  相似文献

Oscillations in the platinum redox potential during the reaction of bromate ions with acetonedicarboxylic acid catalyzed by Mn(II) ions were observed. The volume of gaseous carbon dioxide produced was measured. A nonoscillatory course was found both at the slow and rapid stirring rates for carbon dioxide evolution. The perturbation experiments suggest supersaturation during the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction with acetonedicarboxylic acid. Possible reasons for such observations are discussed.  相似文献

The excitation of the photosensitive Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction induced by light stimulation was systematically investigated. A stepwise increase in the light intensity induced the excitation, whereas a stepwise decrease did not induce the excitation. The threshold values for the excitation were found to be a function of the initial and final light intensities, time variation in light intensity, and the concentration of NaBrO(3). The experimental results were qualitatively reproduced by a theoretical calculation based on a three-variable Oregonator model modified for the photosensitive BZ reaction. These results suggest that although the steady light irradiation is known to inhibit oscillation and chemical waves in the BZ system under almost all conditions, the stepwise increase in the light irradiation leads to the rapid production of an activator, resulting in the photoexcitation.  相似文献

The purpose of this research was to explore the unstirred, ferroin-catalyzed Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction as an experimental model for the response of excitable media to small perturbations (slightly larger than the threshold for excitations). Following Showalter et al. (Showalter, K.; Noyes, R. M.; Turner, H. J.Am. Chem. Soc. 1979, 101, 7463-69), we used a positively biased silver electrode to release silver ions into a BZ reaction mixture, removing bromide ions and causing an excitation if sufficient bromide was removed. We found (1) a scaling region in which the delay before activation increased linearly as the size of the perturbation decreased, qualitatively consistent with but not fully explained by the Oregonator of Field et al. (Field, R. J.; K?r?s, E.; Noyes, R. M. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1972, 94, 8649-64); (2) evidence for a 10 s oligomerization time scale; and (3) that activations were always delayed until after the end of a pulse of current, with the delay essentially constant for sufficiently long pulses, an effect not seen in simple ODE models but consistent with the anomalously large current apparently required for activation (Showalter, K.; Noyes, R. M. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1976, 98, 3730-31) and explainable by bromide transport. Overall, the BZ system appeared to be well-suited as an experimental prototype, despite its complexity.  相似文献

Noise can stabilize a metastable state in such a way that the system remains in this state for a longer time than in the absence of noise. When this phenomenon is observed in chaos, it is called "noise-induced order." We have experimentally detected noise-induced order in the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction. That is, when noise is added to the chaos with the flow rate near the period-three oscillation, a decrease of the maximum Lyapunov exponent and a convergence of the Fourier spectrum are observed. Moreover, the analysis on the one-dimensional return map reveals that noise-induced order is caused by the convergence of the chaotic trajectory into the laminar region.  相似文献

The Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction dispersed in water-in-oil aerosol OT (AOT) microemulsion has been studied at small radius R(d) of water nanodroplets (R(d) (nm) congruent with0.17omega,omega = [H(2)O][AOT] = 9). Stationary spotlike and labyrinthine Turing patterns are found close to the fully oxidized state. These patterns, islands of high concentration of the reduced state of the Ru(bpy)(3) (2+) catalyst, can coexist either with "black" reduction waves or, under other conditions, with the "white" oxidation waves usually observed in the BZ reaction. The experimental observations are analyzed with the aid of a new Oregonator-like model and qualitatively reproduced in computer simulations.  相似文献
