We propose relative (to a distinguished class E of epimorphisms) versions of the so-called old and new style axioms for semi-abelian categories, and prove the equivalence of these two sets of axioms. The same results were obtained before under much stronger completeness/cocompleteness assumptions. One of obvious purposes of such a generalization is to include the trivial case of E being the class of all isomorphisms when the ground category is an arbitrary pointed category.  相似文献

We introduce normal cores, as well as the more general action cores, in the context of a semi-abelian category, and further generalise those to split extension cores in the context of a homological category. We prove that, if the category is moreover well-powered with (small) joins, then the existence of split extension cores is equivalent to the condition that the change-of-base functors in the fibration of points are geometric. We call a finitely complete category that satisfies this condition an algebraic logos. We give examples of such categories, compare them with algebraically coherent ones, and study equivalent conditions as well as stability under common categorical operations.  相似文献

We present two related categorical constructions. Given a category C, we construct a category C[d], the category of directed systems in C. C embeds into C[d], and if C has enough colimits, then C is monadic over C[d]. Also, if E,M is a factorization structure for C, then C[d] has a related factorization structure Ed Md such that if E consists entirely of monic arrows, then so does Ed and the Ed-quotient poset of an object A is naturally the poset of directed downsets of the E-quotient poset of A. Similarly, if M consists entirely of monicarrows, then so does Md and the Md-subobject poset of an object A is naturally the poset of directed downsets of the M-subobject poset. C[d] has completeness and cocompleteness properties at least as good as those of C, and it is abelian if C is. Dualization gives the other construction: a category C[i], the category of inverse systems in C, into which C also embeds and which satisfies similar properties, except that directed downsets in the E-quotient and M-subobject posets are replaced by directed upsets.  相似文献

We consider trivial and central extensions, in the sense of G. Janelidze and G. M. Kelly, which are defined with respect to an adjunction between a Barr-exact category C and a Birkhoff subcategory X of C. Assuming in addition that C is a pointed Mal’tsev category with cokernels, and that X is protomodular, we prove that: (a) the class of all trivial extensions and the class of all finite composites of central extensions form relative homological category structures on C; (b) if C has finite coproducts, then the class of all finite composites of central extensions forms a relative semi-abelian category structure on C.  相似文献

The notion of the root of the category, which is a minimal (in a precise sense) weakly coreflective subcategory, is introduced in view of defining local solutions of universal problems: If U is a functor from C to C and c an object of C, the root of the comma-category c|U is called a U-universal root generated by c; when it exists, it is unique (up to isomorphism) and determines a particular form of the locally free diagrams defined by Guitart and Lair. In this case, the analogue of an adjoint functor is an adjoint-root functor of U, taking its values in the category of pro-objects of C. Local colimits are obtained if U is the insertion from a category into its category of ind-objects; they generalize Diers' multicolimits. Applications to posets and Galois theory are given.  相似文献

Let 𝒞 be an additive category. Denote by End(𝒞) the endomorphism category of 𝒞, i.e., the objects in End(𝒞) are pairs (C,c) with C𝒞,cEnd𝒞(C), and a morphism f:(C,c)→(D,d) is a morphism fHom𝒞(C,D) satisfying fc?=?df. This paper is devoted to an approach of the general theory of the endomorphism category of an arbitrary additive category. It is proved that the endomorphism category of an abelian category is again abelian with an induced structure without nontrivial projective or injective objects. Furthermore, the endomorphism category of any nontrivial abelian category is nonsemisimple and of infinite representation type. As an application, we show that two unital rings are Morita equivalent if and only if the endomorphism categories of their module categories are equivalent.  相似文献

We introduce a notion of a subtractive category. It generalizes the notion of a pointed subtractive variety of universal algebras in the sense of A. Ursini. Subtractive categories are closely related to Mal’tsev and additive categories: (i) a category C with finite limits is a Mal’tsev category if and only if for every object X in C the category Pt(X)=((X,1X)↓(CX)) of “points over X” is subtractive; (ii) a pointed category C with finite limits is additive if and only if C is subtractive and half-additive.Mathematics Subject Classifications (2000) 18C99, 18E05, 08B05.  相似文献

Walker's cancellation theorem says that, if BZ is isomorphic to CZ in the category of abelian groups, then B is isomorphic to C. We construct an example in a diagram category of abelian groups where the theorem fails. As a consequence, the original theorem does not have a constructive proof even if B and C are subgroups of the free abelian group on two generators. Both of these results contrast with a group whose endomorphism ring has stable range one, which allows a constructive proof of cancellation and also a proof in any diagram category.  相似文献

The fibration p of pointed objects of a category E is shown to have some classifying properties: it is additive if and only if E is naturally Mal'cev, it is unital if and only if E is Mal'cev. The category E is protomodular if and only if the change of base functors relative to p are conservative.  相似文献

For any object L in the category of precrossed modules in Lie algebras PXLie, we construct the object Act(L), which we call the actor of this object. From this construction, we derive the notions of action, center, semidirect product, derivation, commutator, and abelian precrossed module in PXLie. We show that the notion of action is equivalent to the one given in semi-abelian categories, and Act(L) is the split extension classifier for L. In the case of a crossed module in Lie algebras we show how to recover its actor in the category of crossed modules from its actor in the category of precrossed modules.  相似文献

We show that the Huq commutator distributes over finite joins, in any semi-abelian algebraically cartesian closed category. As a consequence we show that for semi-abelian varieties of universal algebras (more generally for semi-abelian categories with large directed colimits of subobjects preserved, for each object B, by the functor B×??), the distributivity of the Huq commutator over joins is equivalent to algebraic cartesian closedness.  相似文献

Raikov’s conjecture states that semi-abelian categories are quasi-abelian. A first counterexample is contained in a paper of Bonet and Dierolf who considered the category of bornological locally convex spaces. We prove that every semi-abelian category I admits a left essential embedding into a quasi-abelian category Kl(I) such that I can be recovered from Kl(I) by localization. Conversely, it is shown that left essential full subcategories I of a quasi-abelian category are semi-abelian, and a criterion for I to be quasi-abelian is given. Applied to categories of locally convex spaces, the criterion shows that barreled or bornological spaces are natural counterexamples to Raikov’s conjecture. Using a dual argument, the criterion leads to a simplification of Bonet and Dierolf’s example.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce the concept of a wide tensor category which is a special class of a tensor category initiated by the inverse braid monoids recently investigated by Easdown and Lavers [The Inverse Braid Monoid, Adv. in Math. 186 (2004) 438-455].The inverse braid monoidsIBn is an inverse monoid which behaves as the symmetric inverse semigroup so that the braid group Bn can be regarded as the braids acting in the symmetric group. In this paper, the structure of inverse braid monoids is explained by using the language of categories. A partial algebra category, which is a subcategory of the representative category of a bialgebra, is given as an example of wide tensor categories. In addition, some elementary properties of wide tensor categories are given. The main result is to show that for every strongly wide tensor category C, a strict wide tensor category Cstr can be constructed and is wide tensor equivalent to C with a wide tensor equivalence F.As a generalization of the universality property of the braid category B, we also illustrate a wide tensor category through the discussion on the universality of the inverse braid category IB (see Theorem 3.3, 3.6 and Proposition 3.7).  相似文献

The projective tensor product in a category of topological R-modules (where R is a topological ring) can be defined in Top, the category of topological spaces, by the same universal property used to define the tensor product of R-modules in Set. In this article, we extend this definition to an arbitrary topological category X and study how the Cartesian closedness of X is related to the monoidal closedness of the category of R-module objects in X. It is known that any strict tensor category (CI) determines a braided tensor categoryZ(C), the centre ofC. WhenA is a finite dimension Hopf algebra, Drinfel’d has proved thatZ(A M) is equivalent to D(A) M as a braided tensor category, whereA M is the left A-module category andD(A) is the Drinfel’d double ofA. For a braided tensor category, the braidC U,v is a natural isomorphism for any pair of object (U,V) in. If weakening the natural isomorphism of the braidC U,V to a natural transformation, thenC U,V is a prebraid and the category with a prebraid is called a prebraided tensor category. Similarly it can be proved that any strict tensor category determines a prebraided tensor category Z∼ (C), the near centre of. An interesting prebraided tensor structure of the Yetter-Drinfel’d category C*A YD C*A given, whereC # A is the smash product bialgebra ofC andA. And it is proved that the near centre of Doi-Hopf module A M(H) C is equivalent to the Yetter-Drinfel’ d C*A YD C*A as prebraided tensor categories. As corollaries, the prebraided tensor structures of the Yetter-Drinfel’d category A YD A , the centres of module category and comodule category are given.  相似文献

Let be the Banach space, with the supremum norm, of all continuous functions f from the unit interval into the Banach space E. If E=R we put CR=C. Function spaces under consideration are equipped with their Borel σ-field. This paper deals with the tightness property of some classes of probability measures (p.m) on the function space CE. We will be concerned mainly with the specific cases E=R, E=C and more generally E a separable Banach space. We give sufficient conditions for tightness by extending and strengthening the conditions developed by Prohorov in connection with limit theorems of stochastic processes. In the general case of a separable Banach space E, the property of tightness will be settled under conditions of different nature from those of Prohorov. Finally weak convergence of p.m on CE will be established under the condition of weak convergence of their finite dimensional distributions. This extends a similar result valid in the space C.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is to prove that the category of cocommutative Hopf K-algebras, over a field K of characteristic zero, is a semi-abelian category. Moreover, we show that this category is action representable, and that it contains a torsion theory whose torsion-free and torsion parts are given by the category of groups and by the category of Lie K-algebras, respectively.  相似文献

Let R be a ring and β×α(R) (? β×α(R)) the set of all β × α full (row finite) matrices over R where α and β ≥ 1 are two cardinal numbers. A left R-module M is said to be “injective relative” to a matrix A ? ? β×α(R) if every R-homomorphism from R (β) A to M extends to one from R (α) to M. It is proved that M is injective relative to A if and only if it is A-pure in every module which contains M as a submodule. A right R-module N is called flat relative to a matrix A ?  β×α(R) if the canonical map μ: N? R (β) A → N α is a monomorphism. This extends the notion of (m, n)-flat modules so that n-projectivity, finitely projectivity, and τ-flatness can be redefined in terms of flatness relative to certain matrices. R is called left coherent relative to a matrix A ?  β×α(R) if R (β) A is a left R-ML module. Some results on τ-coherent rings and (m, n)-coherent rings are extended.  相似文献

Let C be a connected Noetherian hereditary Abelian category with a Serre functor over an algebraically closed field k, with finite-dimensional homomorphism and extension spaces. Using the classification of such categories from our 1999 preprint, we prove that if C has some object of infinite length, then the Grothendieck group of C is finitely generated if and only if C has a tilting object.  相似文献
