We prove the existence of nontopological N‐vortex solutions for an arbitrary number N of vortex points for the self‐dual Chern‐Simons‐Higgs theory with 't Hooft “periodic” boundary conditions. We use a shadowing‐type lemma to glue together any number of single vortices obtained as a perturbation of a radially symmetric entire solution of the Liouville equation. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

In this paper, we prove the uniqueness of topological multivortex solutions to the self-dual abelian Chern–Simons model if either the Chern–Simons coupling parameter is sufficiently small or sufficiently large. In addition, we also establish the sharp region of the flux for nontopological solutions with a single vortex point.  相似文献

Our aim is to prove rigorously that the Chern‐Simons model of Hong, Kim, and Pac [13] and Jackiw and Weinberg [14] (the CS model) and the Abelian Higgs model of Ginzburg and Landau (the AH model, see [15]) are unified by the Maxwell‐Chern‐Simons theory introduced by Lee, Lee, and Min in [16] (MCS model). In [16] the authors give a formal argument that shows how to recover both the CS and AH models out of their theory by taking special limits for the values of the physical parameters involved. To make this argument rigorous, we consider the existence and multiplicity of periodic vortex solutions for the MCS model and analyze their asymptotic behavior as the physical parameters approach these limiting values. We show that, indeed, the given vortices approach (in a strong sense) vortices for the CS and AH models, respectively. For this purpose, we are led to analyze a system of two elliptic PDEs with exponential nonlinearities on a flat torus. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

We establish an existence theorem for the doubly periodic vortices in a generalized self-dual Chern–Simons model. We show that there exists a critical value of the coupling parameter such that there exist self-dual doubly periodic vortex solutions for the generalized self-dual Chern–Simons equation if and only if the coupling parameter is less than or equal to the value. The energy, magnetic flux, and electric charge associated to the field configurations are all specifically quantized. By the solutions obtained for this generalized self-dual Chern–Simons equation we can also construct doubly periodic vortex solutions to a related generalized self-dual Abelian Higgs equation.  相似文献

For the positive solutions of the Gross–Pitaevskii system we prove that L‐boundedness implies C0,α‐boundedness for every α ? (0,1), uniformly as β → +∞. Moreover, we prove that the limiting profile as β → +∞ is Lipschitz‐continuous. The proof relies upon the blowup technique and the monotonicity formulae by Almgren and Alt, Caffarelli, and Friedman. This system arises in the Hartree‐Fock approximation theory for binary mixtures of Bose–Einstein condensates in different hyperfine states. Extensions to systems with k > 2 densities are given. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Consider a flat two-dimensional vortex sheet perturbed initially by a small analytic disturbance. By a formal perturbation analysis, Moore derived an approximate differential equation for the evolution of the vortex sheet. We present a simplified derivation of Moore's approximate equation and analyze errors in the approximation. The result is used to prove existence of smooth solutions for long time. If the initial perturbation is of size ? and is analytic in a strip |??m γ| < ρ, existence of a smooth solution of Birkhoff's equation is shown for time t < k2p, if ? is sufficiently small, with κ → 1 as ? → 0. For the particular case of sinusoidal data of wave length π and amplitude e, Moore's analysis and independent numerical results show singularity development at time tc = |log ?| + O(log|log ?|. Our results prove existence for t < κ|log ?|, if ? is sufficiently small, with k κ → 1 as ? → 0. Thus our existence results are nearly optimal.  相似文献

We consider a conserved phase‐field system on a tri‐dimensional bounded domain. The heat conduction is characterized by memory effects depending on the past history of the (relative) temperature ?, which is represented through a convolution integral whose relaxation kernel k is a summable and decreasing function. Therefore, the system consists of a linear integrodifferential equation for ?, which is coupled with a viscous Cahn–Hilliard type equation governing the order parameter χ. The latter equation contains a nonmonotone nonlinearity ? and the viscosity effects are taken into account by a term ?αΔ?tχ, for some α?0. Rescaling the kernel k with a relaxation time ε>0, we formulate a Cauchy–Neumann problem depending on ε and α. Assuming a suitable decay of k, we prove the existence of a family of exponential attractors {?α,ε} for our problem, whose basin of attraction can be extended to the whole phase–space in the viscous case (i.e. when α>0). Moreover, we prove that the symmetric Hausdorff distance of ?α,ε from a proper lifting of ?α,0 tends to 0 in an explicitly controlled way, for any fixed α?0. In addition, the upper semicontinuity of the family of global attractors {??α,ε} as ε→0 is achieved for any fixed α>0. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We study the vortex pattern in ultrathin ferromagnetic films of circular crosssection. The model is based on the following energy functional: for in‐plane magnetizations m: B2S1 in the unit disc . The avoidance of volume charges ? · m ≠ 0 in B2 and surface charges m · ν ≠ 0 on δB2 leads to the formation of a vortex in the limit ε → 0. At the level ε > 0 the vortex is regularized by the formation of a 360° Néel wall (a one‐dimensional transition layer with core of scale ε) concentrated along a radius of B2. We derive the limiting energy of the vortex by matching upper and lower bounds. Our analysis on the lower bound is based on a dynamical system argument and an interpolation inequality with sharp leading‐order constant, while the upper bound uses the leading‐order energy for 360° Néel walls. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Let γ(G) be the domination number of graph G, thus a graph G is k‐edge‐critical if γ (G) = k, and for every nonadjacent pair of vertices u and υ, γ(G + uυ) = k?1. In Chapter 16 of the book “Domination in Graphs—Advanced Topics,” D. Sumner cites a conjecture of E. Wojcicka under the form “3‐connected 4‐critical graphs are Hamiltonian and perhaps, in general (i.e., for any k ≥ 4), (k?1)‐connected, k‐edge‐critical graphs are Hamiltonian.” In this paper, we prove that the conjecture is not true for k = 4 by constructing a class of 3‐connected 4‐edge‐critical non‐Hamiltonian graphs. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

We construct new concrete examples of relative differential characters, which we call Cheeger–Chern–Simons characters. They combine the well-known Cheeger–Simons characters with Chern–Simons forms. In the same way as Cheeger–Simons characters generalize Chern–Simons invariants of oriented closed manifolds, Cheeger–Chern–Simons characters generalize Chern–Simons invariants of oriented manifolds with boundary. We study the differential cohomology of compact Lie groups G and their classifying spaces BG. We show that the even degree differential cohomology of BG canonically splits into Cheeger–Simons characters and topologically trivial characters. We discuss the transgression in principal G-bundles and in the universal bundle. We introduce two methods to lift the universal transgression to a differential cohomology valued map. They generalize the Dijkgraaf–Witten correspondence between 3-dimensional Chern–Simons theories and Wess–Zumino–Witten terms to fully extended higher-order Chern–Simons theories. Using these lifts, we also prove two versions of a differential Hopf theorem. Using Cheeger–Chern–Simons characters and transgression, we introduce the notion of differential trivializations of universal characteristic classes. It generalizes well-established notions of differential String classes to arbitrary degree. Specializing to the class \({\frac{1}{2} p_1 \in H^4(B{\rm Spin}_n;\mathbb{Z})}\), we recover isomorphism classes of geometric string structures on Spin n -bundles with connection and the corresponding spin structures on the free loop space. The Cheeger–Chern–Simons character associated with the class \({\frac{1}{2} p_1}\) together with its transgressions to loop space and higher mapping spaces defines a Chern–Simons theory, extended down to points. Differential String classes provide trivializations of this extended Chern–Simons theory. This setting immediately generalizes to arbitrary degree: for any universal characteristic class of principal G-bundles, we have an associated Cheeger–Chern–Simons character and extended Chern–Simons theory. Differential trivialization classes yield trivializations of this extended Chern–Simons theory.  相似文献

There has been much recent interest in the satisfiability of random Boolean formulas. A random k‐SAT formula is the conjunction of m random clauses, each of which is the disjunction of k literals (a variable or its negation). It is known that when the number of variables n is large, there is a sharp transition from satisfiability to unsatisfiability; in the case of 2‐SAT this happens when m/n → 1, for 3‐SAT the critical ratio is thought to be m/n ≈ 4.2. The sharpness of this transition is characterized by a critical exponent, sometimes called ν = νk (the smaller the value of ν the sharper the transition). Experiments have suggested that ν3 = 1.5 ± 0.1. ν4 = 1.25 ± 0.05, ν5 = 1.1 ± 0.05, ν6 = 1.05 ± 0.05, and heuristics have suggested that νk → 1 as k → ∞. We give here a simple proof that each of these exponents is at least 2 (provided the exponent is well defined). This result holds for each of the three standard ensembles of random k‐SAT formulas: m clauses selected uniformly at random without replacement, m clauses selected uniformly at random with replacement, and each clause selected with probability p independent of the other clauses. We also obtain similar results for q‐colorability and the appearance of a q‐core in a random graph. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Random Struct. Alg., 21: 182–195, 2002  相似文献

The problem we consider in this article is motivated by data placement, in particular data replication in distributed storage and retrieval systems. We are given a set V of v servers along with b files (data, documents). Each file is replicated on exactly k servers. A placement consists in finding a family of b subsets of V (representing the files) called blocks, each of size k. Each server has some probability to fail and we want to find a placement that minimizes the variance of the number of available files. It was conjectured that there always exists an optimal placement (with variance better than any other placement for any value of the probability of failure). We show that the conjecture is true, if there exists a well‐balanced design—that is, a family of blocks—each of size k, such that each j‐element subset of V, , belongs to the same or almost the same number of blocks (difference at most one). The existence of well‐balanced designs is a difficult problem as it contains, as a subproblem, the existence of Steiner systems. We completely solve the case and give bounds and constructions for and some values of v and b.  相似文献

We analyze the two‐dimensional parabolic‐elliptic Patlak‐Keller‐Segel model in the whole Euclidean space ?2. Under the hypotheses of integrable initial data with finite second moment and entropy, we first show local‐in‐time existence for any mass of “free‐energy solutions,” namely weak solutions with some free‐energy estimates. We also prove that the solution exists as long as the entropy is controlled from above. The main result of the paper is to show the global existence of free‐energy solutions with initial data as before for the critical mass 8π/χ. Actually, we prove that solutions blow up as a delta Dirac at the center of mass when t → ∞ when their second moment is kept constant at any time. Furthermore, all moments larger than 2 blowup as t → ∞ if initially bounded. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

A k‐piece of a graph G is a connected subgraph of G all of whose nodes have degree at most k and at least one node has degree equal to k. We consider the problem of covering the maximum number of nodes of a graph by node disjoint k‐pieces. When k = 1 this is the maximum matching problem, and when k = 2 this is the problem, recently studied by Kaneko [ 19 [, of covering the maximum number of nodes by disjoint paths of length greater than 1. We present a polynomial time algorithm for the problem as well as a Tutte‐type existence theorem and a Berge‐type min‐max formula. We also solve the problem in the more general situation where the “pieces” are defined in terms of lower and upper bounds on the degrees. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory  相似文献

The self-dual Chern–Simons solitons under the influence of the quantum potential are considered. The single-valuedness condition for an arbitrary integer number N⩾0 of solitons leads to quantization of Chern–Simons coupling constant κ=m(e2/g), and the integer strength of quantum potential s=1−m2. As we show, the Jackiw–Pi model corresponds to the first member (m=1) of our hierarchy of the Chern–Simons gauged nonlinear Schrödinger models, admitting self-dual solitons. New types of exponentially localized Chern–Simons solitons for the Bloch electrons near the hyperbolic energy band boundary are found.  相似文献

We give an explicit solution to the existence problem for 1‐rotational k‐cycle systems of order v < 3k with k odd and v ≠ 2k + 1. We also exhibit a 2‐rotational k‐cycle system of order 2k + 1 for any odd k. Thus, for k odd and any admissible v < 3k there exists a 2‐rotational k‐cycle system of order v. This may also be viewed as an alternative proof that the obvious necessary conditions for the existence of odd cycle systems are also sufficient. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Given a k‐arc‐strong tournament T, we estimate the minimum number of arcs possible in a k‐arc‐strong spanning subdigraph of T. We give a construction which shows that for each k ≥ 2, there are tournaments T on n vertices such that every k‐arc‐strong spanning subdigraph of T contains at least arcs. In fact, the tournaments in our construction have the property that every spanning subdigraph with minimum in‐ and out‐degree at least k has arcs. This is best possible since it can be shown that every k‐arc‐strong tournament contains a spanning subdigraph with minimum in‐ and out‐degree at least k and no more than arcs. As our main result we prove that every k‐arc‐strong tournament contains a spanning k‐arc‐strong subdigraph with no more than arcs. We conjecture that for every k‐arc‐strong tournament T, the minimum number of arcs in a k‐arc‐strong spanning subdigraph of T is equal to the minimum number of arcs in a spanning subdigraph of T with the property that every vertex has in‐ and out‐degree at least k. We also discuss the implications of our results on related problems and conjectures. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 46: 265–284, 2004  相似文献

Abstract This note concerns the global existence and convergence of the solution for K?hler-Ricci flow equation when the canonical class, KX, is numerically effective and big. We clarify some known results regarding this flow on projective manifolds of general type and also show some new observations and refined results.
