Exotic smooth structures on

We construct exotic and as a corollary of recent results of I. Dolgachev and C. Werner concerning a numerical Godeaux surface. We also construct another exotic using the surgery techniques of R. Fintushel and R. J. Stern. We show that these 4-manifolds are irreducible by computing their Seiberg-Witten invariants.

Exotic smooth structures on small 4-manifolds

Kaehler structures on

Let be a compact connected semi-simple Lie group, let , and let be an Iwasawa decomposition. To a given -invariant Kaehler structure on , there corresponds a pre-quantum line bundle on . Following a suggestion of A.S. Schwarz, in a joint paper with V. Guillemin, we studied its holomorphic sections as a -representation space. We defined a -invariant -structure on , and let denote the space of square-integrable holomorphic sections. Then is a unitary -representation space, but not all unitary irreducible -representations occur as subrepresentations of . This paper serves as a continuation of that work, by generalizing the space considered. Let be a Borel subgroup containing , with commutator subgroup . Instead of working with , we consider , for all parabolic subgroups containing . We carry out a similar construction, and recover in the unitary irreducible -representations previously missing. As a result, we use these holomorphic sections to construct a model for : a unitary -representation in which every irreducible -representation occurs with multiplicity one.

     

Exotic smooth structures and symplectic forms on closed manifolds

In this paper we discuss relations between symplectic forms and smooth structures on closed manifolds. Our main motivation is the problem if there exist symplectic structures on exotic tori. This is a symplectic generalization of a problem posed by Benson and Gordon. We give a short proof of the (known) positive answer to the original question of Benson and Gordon that there are no Kähler structures on exotic tori. We survey also other related results which give an evidence for the conjecture that there are no symplectic structures on exotic tori.     

Exotic torus manifolds and equivariant smooth structures on quasitoric manifolds

In 2006 Masuda and Suh asked if two compact non-singular toric varieties having isomorphic cohomology rings are homeomorphic. In the first part of this paper we discuss this question for topological generalizations of toric varieties, so-called torus manifolds. For example we show that there are homotopy equivalent torus manifolds which are not homeomorphic. Moreover, we characterize those groups which appear as the fundamental groups of locally standard torus manifolds. In the second part we give a classification of quasitoric manifolds and certain six-dimensional torus manifolds up to equivariant diffeomorphism. In the third part we enumerate the number of conjugacy classes of tori in the diffeomorphism group of torus manifolds. For torus manifolds of dimension greater than six there are always infinitely many conjugacy classes. We give examples which show that this does not hold for six-dimensional torus manifolds.     

Involutions fixing , I

This paper studies the equivariant cobordism classification of all involutions fixing a disjoint union of an odd-dimensional real projective space with its normal bundle nonbounding and a Dold manifold with 0$"> and 0$">. For odd , the complete analysis of the equivariant cobordism classes of such involutions is given except that the upper and lower bounds on codimension of may not be best possible; for even , the problem may be reduced to the problem for even projective spaces.

     

Shintani functions on

In this paper, in analogy to the real case, we give a formulation of the Shintani functions on , which have been studied by Murase and Sugano within the theory of automorphic -functions. Also, we obtain the multiplicity one theorem for these functions and an explicit formula in a special case.
