Zero field SR spectra from Cr85Mo15 are well described by the sum of a lightly damped (0.02s–1<1<0.2s–1) and a heavily damped (2s–1<2<15s–1) exponential. The temperature dependence of these components is discussed in relation to the condensation of the incommensurate spin density wave and the onset of the antiferromagnetic state in this Cr-like alloy below TN=120K. Evidence is presented for the nucleation of the spin density wave at temperatures greater than 1.5TN.  相似文献

Slow production via dd-CF using a two-layer arrangement is investigated. To determine its feasibility, experimental measurements are now in progress using the muonic X-ray detection method. The following experimental steps are being considered: (1) measurement of the number of stopped inside a solid H2/D2 layer by detecting p K X-rays, (2) hot d emission detection by placing a secondary target at a distance of 10–30 mm from the layer and by detecting specific delayed X-rays, (3) measurement of the disappearance of d emission as the added D2 layer is increased, (4) dd-CF measurement by detecting fusion protons, and (5) slow emission detection. Results of the initial test experiment are presented.  相似文献

Thin film samples (10–20 thick) of niobium-nickel alloys in the composition range Nb-5 to 95 at % Ni were vapour quenched by R. F. sputtering onto fused quartz substrates held at a temperature of 450 K. It was found that fully glassy alloys were synthetized in the composition range Nb-30 to 85 at % Ni, 2·5 times larger than reported for splat-quenched alloys. Crystallization temperatures exhibited maxima near the eutectic composition and are comparable to those of splat-quenched materials. At room temperature, the electrical resistivity of these alloys lies between 176–210 cm, and the absolute thermoelectric power S between 2·20–2·52 V/K. On increasing the temperature from 4·2 to 775 K, up to which the amorphous alloys are stable, the resistivity of the alloy with=0·50 decreases by about 1·5%; the value of d/dT progressively increases with increasing Ni content, becoming positive at 0·50dS/dT of all alloys lies between 6–8·5×10–3V deg–2. The electrical behaviour of these alloys may be treated in terms of electron scattering in disordered structures assuming the nearly free-electron model, in a manner analogous to Ziman's theory of electronic transport in liquid metals.  相似文献

We have measured the positron mobility in a sample of scintillation grade anthracene at two temperatures. We obtain at 300 K: =(26.0±0.9±2.6) cm2V–1s–1 and at 77 K: =(33.4±1.1±3.3) cm2V–1s–1, where the first error estimate is statistical and the second is systematic. We have also made preliminary measurements on a highly purified sample that yields =(130±3±20) cm2 V–1 s–1 at 300 K. The data are consistent with the hypothesis that the positron is scattered from both impurities and acoustic phonons in the first sample, and predominantly from photons in the second. It appears that positrons in pure anthracene crystals are delocalized and have a mean free path of about 85 Å at room temperature.  相似文献

The triton energy of the muon capture reaction 3He t+v, where 3 He is the ground state of muonic3He, has been measured in order to investigate a possible heavy v admixture into the flavour with high sensitivity. 3 He has been formed via the pd fusion reaction by stopping in an ionization chamber (IC) filled with an H/D gas mixture of 3% D concentration at a pressure of 161 bar. In a first short experiment 650 triton events were observed yielding an upper limit for the -heavy v mixing strength of 2.3×10–3 atE 0v=60 MeV.  相似文献

Inherent characteristics of optical fibres make them suitable for telecommunication networks. This can become a matter of fact provided that costs of fibres and of related components make optical systems more convenient than copper cable ones. Economic evaluations of convenience limits, especially for systems operating at 1.2–1.5m are given, as well as an estimate of the percentage of links in different areas of a typical network (in Italy) that can be realized without intermediate repeaters using optical fibres at 0.8–0.9m or at 1.2–1.5m.  相似文献

Polarized negative muons were stopped in various materials containing nuclei with nonzero spin. The TF-SR precession signal of theF + hyperfine state (frequencyv + > 0) was pronounced for Li and Be, faint for Cl (in NiCl2), and undetectable for F (in CaF2 or NiF2) and P. TheF signal (frequencyv < 0) was observed clearly for Be, Al and Na, marginally for K, V and Nb, and not at all for Ga (at 4 kOe) or Co (ferrromagnetic, zero field). In the heavier elements theF signal is fed by transitions from theF + to theF state at a rateR, as long asR(v +v ). The refractivity of the CO2 gas is measured with an experimental error of 2% in the 10-m region, using 10.4-m band CO2 laser line. The frequency of the CO2 laser is swept through the Doppler profile of the laser line. The experiment is achieved using a 0.63-m He–Ne/10.6-m CO2-laser interferometer with a 2-m long vacuum cell. From the result, it is found that the Koch's formula also holds for the wavelengths in the 10-m region within an accuracy of 2%.  相似文献

A study has been made of the effects of radiation corrections of order as regards the probability of lepton decay of a moving neutral vector meson V e+e and V + (V = 0, , ); -e universality has been checked by examining the effects of radiation corrections due to exchange of virtual photons between lepton and antilepton, and also to vacuum polarization by e+e electron and +muon closed loops; in addition, a study has been made of the emission of soft photons as regards the partial width for the electron and muon modes of V-meson decay. The influence of various circuit parameters on the spectral line intensities of sulfur and the halogens when excited in a low-voltage spark discharge have been investigated. The intensities were maximum for a discharge current of 6–8 A and a 1.0–1.5 mm spark gap. In ac spark discharges the maximum intensities occurred with capacitances of 20–50F and an inductance of 15H for primary circuit resistance of 200 ohm, and with 50–100F and 30–60H for 400 ohm. The intensities attained with dc sparks were higher than those with ac sparks. The intensity increased if the specimen served as the cathode and, in this case, occurred with capacitances of 100–800F and inductances of 30–60H for an ignition frequency of 12 sec–1.  相似文献

A system of coordinates on a set of selfdual lattices in a two-dimensionalp-adic symplectic space (V,) is suggested. A unitary irreducible representation of the Heisenberg group of the space (V,) depending on a lattice (an analogue of the Cartier representation) is constructed and its properties are investigated. By the use of such representations for three different lattices one defines the Maslov index =(1,2,3) of a triple of lattices. Properties of the index are investigated and values of in coordinates for different triples of lattices are calculated.  相似文献

Refractive-index and optical-absorption spectra of Bi-substituted yttrium iron garnet films, epitaxially grown by liquid-phase epitaxy, have been measured in the spectral regime 0.26 m1.9 m by thin-film interference for 0.52 m and by ellipsometry for0.52 m. The Y3–x–y Bi x Pb y Fe5–z Pt z O12 films contain bismuth in the range Ox 1.42, lead in the range 0.01 y0.08 and platinum in the range 0.005<=z0.03. There is satisfactory coincidence between the results from ellipsometry and thin-film interference in the overlapping wavelength region. The materials investigated are the same as reported earlier from this laboratory in ter mof their magnetic and magnetooptic properties.  相似文献

Conventional +SR studies are classified according to their relation with Solid State Physics, and an attempt is made to identify current trends in the field of +SR in solids. Desirable trends and development in +SR techniques are also discussed shortly. Rather than risk attempts at predicting the future [1] of +SR in solids, it is perhaps prudent merely to identify trends in the field and let individual readers to extrapolate. Ar ion laser assisted chemical etching of 150 m thick annealed tungsten sheets in air is reported. The material removal mechanism involves local heating by the laser to temperatures in the range of 1000–1500 °C that causes rapid oxidation of the W to WO3 which volatilizes readily. Holes with straight walls and slightly enlarged entrances near the surface were drilled with etch rates as high as 11.5 m/s at 13.8 W, and a minimum hole diameter of 21 m at 8.1 W. The diameters of the holes and the etch rates were measured and found to increase as a function of the laser power. It was found that by increasing the laser power above 11–12 W, no change was observed in the hole diameters which remained constant at about 31 m, whereas the etch rates continued to increase even faster than at low powers. Distinct adjacent holes of 25 m diameter could be drilled with their centers separated by as little as 60 m. This is therefore also the etching resolution in the present study.  相似文献

Based upon the recent discovery at UT MSL/KEK, a new idea is proposed for producing a slow and monoenergetic (3.2 keV) (3He)+ ion beam by using particle decay of the (d3He) muon molecule formed during the (d) to3He transfer reaction. The proposed intense (3He) beam as well as the less intense (4He) beam will open up way to various new types of important CF experiments.  相似文献

We present very compact, as short as 20 m long, low-threshold in-plane semiconductor lasers operating at a wavelength of 980 nm, in which microstructured mirrors have been formed at both cavity ends by deep reactive ion etching (RIE). The back mirror consists of a seven-period third order Bragg reflector with a measured reflectivity of 95%. The front mirror has a similar configuration, but consists of three periods with a lower reflectivity (80%) in order to allow output coupling. Lasing has been achieved from 20 m long and 8 m wide devices exhibiting a current threshold of 7 mA. These are among the shortest in-plane Fabry–Perot electrically pumped lasers demonstrated to date. Design issues are discussed, along with experimental data from which values for the reflectivity of the mirrors are derived. State-of-the-art electron beam lithography (EBL) and high-aspect-ratio RIE have been used for device fabrication, while additional strategies are proposed for the further improvement of the device performance.  相似文献

Muon catalyzed fusion of deuterium and tritium (CF) yields the same energy gain per reaction as fusion with magnetic or inertial confinement (17.6 MeV). The crucial points of Cf are, however, very different, namely (a) the energy costW () for production of one and (b) the numbern of reactions a single muon can catalyze on the average. (b) is ultimately limited by theeffective sticking probability f :n1/ f. With standard methods one hasW ()5 GeV, f=0.5%. Hence a standard CF reactor can never reach a net energy gain. To solve this problem, ways discussed since about a decade are to increase the efficiency by both (i) energy multiplication using a fissionable blanket and (ii) breeding. A new way to increase the safety of fission devices mostly due to Yu. Petrov is outlined. On the other hand there is a hope to lowerW () slightly and f drastically, the latter by artificial reactivation. New theoretical results for beam cooling in an omegatron type driven integrated CF reactor, important forW () and, in particular, f, is presented.  相似文献

The properties of GaAs Schottky barrier diodes as video detectors and mixing elements were investigated in the frequency range from 0.8–2.5 THz. For the most sensitive diode, the video responsivity and system noise temperature were measured as a function of incident laser power. The highest video responsivity was 2,000 V/W at 214m and 60 V/W at 118m. For five diodes differing in doping, capacitance, series resistance and anode diameter, the system noise temperature was measured at 214m and 118m. The best single sideband (SSB) values are 12,300 K and 24,200 K at 214m and 118m, respectively. The system noise temperature versus frequency is given over the range from 0.5–3 THz for two specific diodes demonstrating that the sharpness of the I–V characteristics is only of secondary importance for mixer perfomance at such high frequencies.  相似文献
