We introduce a method to estimate the entropy of random walks on groups. We apply this method to exhibit the existence of compact manifolds with amenable fundamental groups such that the universal cover is not Liouville. We also use the criterion to prove that a finitely generated solvable group admits a symmetric measure with non-trivial Poisson boundary if and only if this group is not virtually nilpotent. This, in particular, shows that any polycyclic group admits a symmetric measure such that its boundary does not readily interprete in terms of the ambient Lie group. As another application we get a series of examples of amenable groups such that any finite entropy non-degenerate measure on them has non-trivial Poisson boundary. Since the groups in question are amenable, they do admit measures such that the corresponding random walks have trivial boundary; the above shows that such measures on these groups have infinite entropy. We introduce a strengthening of the notion of transience for planar maps in order to relax the standard condition of bounded degree appearing in various results, in particular, the existence of Dirichlet harmonic function s proved by Benjamini and Schramm. As a corollary we obtain that every planar nonamenable graph admits nonconstant Dirichlet harmonic function s27.  相似文献

By using probabilistic approaches, Liouville theorems are proved for a class of Riemannian manifolds with Ricci curvatures bounded below by a negative function. Indeed, for these manifolds we prove that all harmonic functions (maps) with certain growth are constant. In particular, the well-known Liouville theorem due to Cheng for sublinear harmonic functions (maps) is generalized. Moreover, our results imply the Brownian coupling property for a class of negatively curved Riemannian manifolds. This leads to a negative answer to a question of Kendall concerning the Brownian coupling property.  相似文献

The paper pursues two connected goals. Firstly, we establish the Li-Yau-Hamilton estimate for the heat equation on a manifold M with nonempty boundary. Results of this kind are typically used to prove monotonicity formulas related to geometric flows. Secondly, we establish bounds for a solution ∇(t) of the Yang-Mills heat equation in a vector bundle over M. The Li-Yau-Hamilton estimate is utilized in the proofs. Our results imply that the curvature of ∇(t) does not blow up if the dimension of M is less than 4 or if the initial energy of ∇(t) is sufficiently small.  相似文献

Let G be a simple graph and let S(G) be the subdivision graph of G, which is obtained from G by replacing each edge of G by a path of length two. In this paper, by the Principle of Inclusion and Exclusion we express the matching polynomial and Hosoya index of S(G) in terms of the matchings of G. Particularly, if G is a regular graph or a semi-regular bipartite graph, then the closed formulae of the matching polynomial and Hosoya index of S(G) are obtained. The main aim of this article is to give the complete classification of critical metrics of the volume functional on a compact manifold M with boundary M $\partial M$ and under the harmonic Weyl tensor condition. In particular, we prove that a critical metric with a harmonic Weyl tensor on a simply connected compact manifold with the boundary isometric to a standard sphere S n 1 $\mathbb {S}^{n-1}$ must be isometric to a geodesic ball in a simply connected space form R n $\mathbb {R}^n$ , H n $\mathbb {H}^n$ , and S n $\mathbb {S}^n$ . To this end, we first conclude the classification of such critical metrics under the Bach-flat assumption and then we prove that both geometric conditions are equivalent in this situation.  相似文献

Let : M N be a harmonic morphism from a complete noncompact Riemannian manifold M with nonnegative Ricci curvature to a complete Riemannian manifold N with nonpositive scalar curvature. We obtain new formulas for the exact analytic solutions to the nonautonomous elliptic Liouville equation in the two-dimensional coordinate space with the free function dependent specially on an arbitrary harmonic function. We present new exact solutions to the wave Liouville equation with two arbitrary functions, providing original formulas for the general solution for the classical (autonomous) and wave Liouville equations. Some equivalence transformations are presented for the elliptic Liouville equation depending on conjugate harmonic functions. In particular, we indicate a transformation that reduces the equation under study to an autonomous form.  相似文献
