We study the fibration of augmented link complements. Given the diagram of an augmented link we associate a spanning surface and a graph. We then show that this surface is a fiber for the link complement if and only if the associated graph is a tree. We further show that fibration is preserved under Dehn filling on certain components of these links. This last result is then used to prove that within a very large class of links, called locally alternating augmented links, every link is fibered.  相似文献

A divide is the image of a generic, relative immersion of a finite number of copies of the unit interval or the unit circle into the unit disk. N. A'Campo defined for each connected divide a link in S3 and proved that the link is fibered. In the present paper we show that the fiber surface of the fibration of a connected divide can be obtained from a disk by a successive plumbing of a finite number of positive Hopf bands. In particular, this gives us a geometric understanding of plumbing constructions of the Milnor fibers of isolated, complex plane curve singularities in terms of certain replacements of the curves of their real morsifications.  相似文献

We write a formula for the LMO invariant of a rational homology sphere presented as a rational surgery on a link inS 3. Our main tool is a careful use of the Århus integral and the (now proven) “Wheels” and “Wheeling” conjectures of B-N, Garoufalidis, Rozansky and Thurston. As steps, side benefits and asides we give explicit formulas for the values of the Kontsevich integral on the Hopf link and on Hopf chains, and for the LMO invariant of lens spaces and Seifert fibered spaces. We find that the LMO invariant does not separate lens spaces, is far from separating general Seifert fibered spaces, but does separate Seifert fibered spaces which are integral homology spheres.  相似文献

The infimal Heegaard gradient of a 3-manifold was defined andstudied by Marc Lackenby in an approach towards proving thewell-known virtually Haken conjecture. As instructive examples,Seifert fibered 3-manifolds are considered in this paper. Theauthor shows that a compact orientable Seifert fibered 3-manifoldhas zero infimal Heegaard gradient if and only if it virtuallyfibers over either the circle or a surface other than the 2-sphereor, equivalently, if it has infinite fundamental group. 2000Mathematics Subject Classification 57M10 (primary), 57N10, 57M50(secondary).  相似文献

Dual Pairs of Hopf *-Algebras   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
If A is a Hopf *-algebra, the dual space A' is again a *-algebra.There is a natural subalgebra of A' that is again a Hopf*-algebra. In many interesting examples, A° will be largeenough (to separate points of A). More generally, one can considera pair (A, B) of Hopf *-algebras and a bilinear form on A xB with conditions such that, if the pairing is non-degenerate,one algebra can be considered as a subalgebra of the dual ofthe other. In these notes, we study such pairs of Hopf *-algebras. We startfrom the notion of a Hopf *-algebra A and its reduced dual A°.We give examples of pairs of Hopf *-algebras, and discuss theproblem of non-degeneracy. The first example is an algebra pairedwith itself. The second example is the pairing of a Hopf *-algebra(due to Jimbo) and the twisted SU(n) of Woronowicz. We alsodiscuss the notion of the quantum double of Drinfeld in thisframework of dual pairs.  相似文献

Left Cotorsion Rings   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
It is proved that if R is an associative ring that is cotorsionas a left module over itself, and J is the Jacobson radicalof R, then the quotient ring R/J is a left self-injective vonNeumann regular ring and idempotents lift modulo J. In particular,if R is indecomposable, then it is a local ring. 2000 MathematicsSubject Classification 16D50, 16D90, 16L30.  相似文献

We define an equivalence relation, called algebraic cobordism, on the set of bilinear forms over the integers. When , we prove that two 2n - 1 dimensional, simple fibered links are cobordant if and only if they have algebraically cobordant Seifert forms. As an algebraic link is a simple fibered link, our criterion for cobordism allows us to study isolated singularities of complex hypersurfaces up to cobordism. Received: August 24, 1995  相似文献

We prove that an irreducible 3-manifold with fundamental groupthat satisfies a certain group-theoretic property called RFRSis virtually fibered. As a corollary, we show that 3-dimensionalreflection orbifolds and arithmetic hyperbolic orbifolds definedby a quadratic form virtually fiber. These include the SeifertWeber dodecahedral space and the Bianchi groups. Moreover, weshow that a taut-sutured compression body has a finite-sheetedcover with a depth one taut-oriented foliation. We call a pair (K,m) of a knot K in the 3-sphere S3 and an integer m a Seifert fibered surgery if m-surgery on K yields a Seifert fiber space. For most known Seifert fibered surgeries (K,m), K can be embedded in a genus 2 Heegaard surface of S3 in a primitive/Seifert position, the concept introduced by Dean as a natural extension of primitive/primitive position defined by Berge. Recently Guntel has given an infinite family of Seifert fibered surgeries each of which has distinct primitive/Seifert positions. In this paper we give yet other infinite families of Seifert fibered surgeries with distinct primitive/Seifert positions from a different point of view.  相似文献

In this note we study logarithmic transformations in the sense of differential topology on two fibers of the Hopf surface. It is known that such transformations are susceptible to yield exotic smooth structures on 4-manifolds. We will show here that this is not the case for the Hopf surface, all integer homology Hopf surfaces we obtain are diffeomorphic to the standard Hopf surface. To cite this article: R. Zentner, C. R. We relate the brace products of a fibration with section tothe differentials in its Serre spectral sequence. In the particularcase of free loop fibrations, we establish a link between thesedifferentials and Browder operations in the fiber. Applicationsand several calculations (for the particular cases of spheresand wedges of spheres) are given. 2000 Mathematical SubjectClassification: 55P35, 55Q15, 55R05, 55R20.  相似文献

For every bundle functor we introduce the concept of subordinated functor. Then we describe subordinated functors for fiber product preserving functors defined on the category of fibered manifolds with m-dimensional bases and fibered manifold morphisms with local diffeomorphisms as base maps. In this case we also introduce the concept of the underlying functor. We show that there is an affine structure on fiber product preserving functors. It is proved that the components of degenerate fibers of three-dimensional algebraic manifolds fibered into rational surfaces are rational or irrational ruled suriaces. An example is constructed of a three-dimensional algebraic manifold, fibered into rational surfaces, whose degenerate fiber contains an irrational ruled surface which cannot be eliminated by birational transformations that do not alter the common fiber.Translated from Matematicheskie Zametki, Vol. 7, No. 2, pp. 191–202, February, 1970.In conclusion the author expresses his gratitude to his scientific adviser Yu. In this note, we compute the virtual first Betti numbers of 4-manifolds fibering over $S^1$ with prime fiber. As an application, we show that if such a manifold is symplectic with nonpositive Kodaira dimension, then the fiber itself is a sphere or torus bundle over $S^1$ . In a different direction, we prove that if the 3-dimensional fiber of such a 4-manifold is virtually fibered then the 4-manifold is virtually symplectic unless its virtual first Betti number is 1.  相似文献

We define two canonical cohomology theories for Hopf C*-algebrasand for Hopf von Neumann algebras (with coefficients in theircomodules). We then study the situations when these cohomologiesvanish. The cases of locally compact groups and compact quantumgroups are considered in more detail. In this note we first show that if H is a finite-dimensional Hopf algebra in a group Yetter-Drinfel'd category L^LyD(π) over a crossed Hopf group-coalgebra L, then its dual H^* is also a Hopf algebra in the category L^LyD(π). Then we establish the fundamental theorem of Hopf modules for H in the category L^LyD(π).  相似文献

In 2002, L. Nicolaescu and the fourth author formulated a verygeneral conjecture which relates the geometric genus of a Gorensteinsurface singularity with rational homology sphere link withthe Seiberg--Witten invariant (or one of its candidates) ofthe link. Recently, the last three authors found some counterexamplesusing superisolated singularities. The theory of superisolatedhypersurface singularities with rational homology sphere linkis equivalent with the theory of rational cuspidal projectiveplane curves. In the case when the corresponding curve has onlyone singular point one knows no counterexample. In fact, inthis case the above Seiberg--Witten conjecture led us to a veryinteresting and deep set of ‘compatibility properties’of these curves (generalising the Seiberg--Witten invariantconjecture, but sitting deeply in algebraic geometry) whichseems to generalise some other famous conjectures and propertiesas well (for example, the Noether--Nagata or the log Bogomolov--Miyaoka--Yauinequalities). Namely, we provide a set of ‘compatibilityconditions’ which conjecturally is satisfied by a localembedded topological type of a germ of plane curve singularityand an integer d if and only if the germ can be realized asthe unique singular point of a rational unicuspidal projectiveplane curve of degree d. The conjectured compatibility propertieshave a weaker version too, valid for any rational cuspidal curvewith more than one singular point. The goal of the present articleis to formulate these conjectured properties, and to verifythem in all the situations when the logarithmic Kodaira dimensionof the complement of the corresponding plane curves is strictlyless than 2. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification 14B05,14J17, 32S25, 57M27, 57R57 (primary), 14E15, 32S45, 57M25 (secondary).  相似文献

Examples suggest that there is a correspondence between L-spaces and three-manifolds whose fundamental groups cannot be left-ordered. In this paper we establish the equivalence of these conditions for several large classes of manifolds. In particular, we prove that they are equivalent for any closed, connected, orientable, geometric three-manifold that is non-hyperbolic, a family which includes all closed, connected, orientable Seifert fibred spaces. We also show that they are equivalent for the twofold branched covers of non-split alternating links. To do this we prove that the fundamental group of the twofold branched cover of an alternating link is left-orderable if and only if it is a trivial link with two or more components. We also show that this places strong restrictions on the representations of the fundamental group of an alternating knot complement with values in $\text{ Homeo}_+(S^1)$ .  相似文献

We say that a Hopf algebra is copolynomial if its dual is polynomialas an algebra. We re-derive Milnor's result that the mod 2 Steenrodalgebra is copolynomial by means of a more general result thatis also applicable to a number of other related Hopf algebras.1991 Mathematics Subject Classification 55S10, 16W30.  相似文献
