This paper presents a theory of filamentation and stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) of high-frequency electromagnetic
radiation in a weakly collisional plasma with ion-acoustic turbulence. When the square of the wavelength of the plasma perturbations
is less than the product of the two mean free path lengths of an electron with respect to its collisions with turbulent fluctuations
and with electrons, the influence of cold highly collisional electrons on the parametric instabilities becomes apparent. It
is shown that the plasma turbulence lowers the filamentation threshold, and the SBS threshold can be either lowered or raised.
The dependence of the SBS and filamentation thresholds on the electron mean free path length in the turbulent plasma and on
the anisotropy of the plasma turbulence is determined. The corresponding dependence of the spatial scale of the most efficiently
growing filaments and their spatial growth rate are found.

Brillouin scattering in an infinite medium is anisotropic, in this case the threshold of absolute instability is caused by attenuation of scattered waves. If the collision attenuation mechanism prevails, the minimum threshold value is observed during backward scattering. For a scattering region limited in the longitudinal direction (parallel to the direction of pumping wave propagation), the backward scattering threshold will be greater than for an infinite medium due to convective loss associated with energy removal by scattered waves. In this paper, the scattering of a wide wave beam in plasma is considered, whose dimension in the transverse direction to the pumping wave propagation substantially exceeds the dimension in the longitudinal direction. It was revealed that in this case, during angle scattering the instability threshold can be less than the threshold for backward scattering due to the increased time of radiation removal from the interaction region. This effect was not taken into account previously. In turn, the decrease of the threshold leads to increasing the radiation loss, which is important in plasma heating problems. New phenomena in which the stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) changes the number and magnitude of frequency shifts in a plasma upon a nonlinear increase in the pumping field intensity are discovered. Intrinsic Brillouin linewidth is one of the essential parameters to optimize the gain spectrum of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS). A novel method for the measurement of the intrinsic Brillouin line-width based on SBS slow light is proposed and demonstrated. In this method, an implicit model based on the transient SBS theory is developed, and a data processing method is designed to obtain the value of the intrinsic Brillouin linewidth from the model. The measured results show that the method is effective for studying SBS slow light. 相似文献

We report the first measurement of the saturation of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) by an ion-trapping-induced frequency shift, which was achieved by directly measuring the amplitude and absolute frequency of SBS-driven ion-acoustic waves (IAW). A frequency shift of up to 30% and a simultaneous saturation of driven IAW and SBS reflectivity were observed. The scaling of the frequency shift with the IAW amplitude compares well with theoretical calculations. We have further measured fast 30 ps oscillations of the SBS-driven IAW amplitude induced by the frequency shift. 相似文献

在"星光Ⅱ"钕玻璃激光装置上,开展了脉宽约0.8ns、能量~70J的351nm激光在不同条件下辐照Au盘靶的实验,研究了激光光束质量对受激布里渊散射(SBS)谱的影响。SBS散射光谱测量结果表明,在激光束未匀滑条件下,SBS散射谱范围为352~360nm;在采用透镜列阵将激光束匀滑聚焦的条件下,激光等离子体密度变得更加均匀,SBS散射光谱范围变为351~351.5nm。实验数据为透镜列阵对光束的匀滑效果提供了直接支持。 相似文献

Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) numerical mode for broadband multimode KrF laser pump with optical breakdown has been built up in this paper. The basic premises of the model are that KrF spectrum is composed of an umber of lines and SBS arises from these lines with coupling to some extent. The broadband SBS threshold strongly depends on pump bandwidth. SBS and optical breakdown occur nearly simultaneously when broadband SBS and breakdown have the same threshold. The decrease of saturation reflectivity for broadband pump radiation is explained with this model. Experimental results agree well with the model. 相似文献

We investigate the nonlinear dynamic behavior of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) near threshold in the absence of feedback. When a cw Nd:YAG laser is injected into a single-mode optical fiber, the SBS signal exhibits intermittently appearing irregular self-pulsations near the threshold. By examining the time series of the SBS signals, we verify that the irregular SBS signal is one of the chaotic phenomena appearing near the bifurcation point. 相似文献

Stimulated Brillouin scattering (STBS) and phase conjugation of CO2 laser radiation have been demonstrated experimentally for the first time in compressed xenon (59 atm at 21°C) located inside
the low-Q cavity of this laser. The nonlinear medium was exposed to the action of counterpropagating focused multimode radiation
beams. The difference between the frequencies of the longitudinal cavity modes was set at the frequency of the acoustic wave
(v
s=32.2±0.3 MHz) excited as a result of STBS by 9.584 μm radiation. The duration of the radiation pulse τ
L was close to the acoustic phonon lifetime (τ
L<τ
ph≈3× 10−6s). The excitation of STBS was manifested experimentally as the locking of longitudinal modes, an increase in power and energy,
and also an increase in the duration of the lasing pulse and a reduction in the divergence to the diffraction limit.
