An analyzer intended for measuring electron energy in gyrotrons is described. Electron energy spectra are measured in various operating modes of an experimental gyrotron. It is shown that, even when no microwave field is generated, the spread in electron energy due to the space-charge effect can be as high as several percent.  相似文献

Cherenkov instability is considered in a completely magnetized homogeneous beam-plasma system featuring a thermal momentum spread of beam electrons. The thermal spread in the beam is described in the scope of both the hydrodynamic approach and the kinetic equation method by giving the electron momentum distribution function in the form of theMaxwellian and semi-Maxwellian distributions. It is shown that two beam-plasma instability regimes, the single-particle and collective Cherenkov effects (Compton and Raman regimes) differing by the physical mechanism and the increments, are possible in a system (waveguide) with homogeneous transverse beam and plasma density profiles. Solutions to dispersion equations for these and a more general regime are obtained and analyzed.  相似文献

We study theoretically the influence of the spread of initial energies and velocities in the electron beam on the starting conditions and efficiency of a gyrotron. We compare various analytical and numerical models and the results of experimental studies of gyrotrons in which the interaction takes place at the first and second harmonics of the cyclotron frequency. The aftercavity interaction of the electron beam with the high-frequency field in the output waveguide transition is taken into account. The influence of the energy spread on the recuperation efficiency is estimated.  根据回旋管对电子枪的要求,采用综合法和分析法设计了该单阳极磁控注入电子枪。编制了一套大型的计算程序,利用计算机辅助设计,给出了电极形状、电子轨迹与电子注参量。计算表明,这种电子枪具有速度零散小、层流性较好、体积小等特点。该枪已用于制管实验中。由热测实验表明,它具有明显的优点,并获得了127kW的峰值功率和超过10%的效率。  相似文献

The multiple acceleration of electrons during active experiments in the ionosphere is related to their returning to a thin layer of the turbulent plasma, created by the powerful radio wave, due to elastic collisions with neutral particles. This effect depends on the magnitude and type of collisional energy losses by the electrons. In this paper, we formulate a system of equations that allows one to describe the process of multiple electron acceleration taking into account collisions of the accelerated particles with thermal electrons and assuming that collisional energy losses are continuous. The above-mentioned collisions become important at small energies where the primary electron acceleration takes place. We obtain asymptotic solutions of the formulated equations using the model power-law dependence of the collision frequency on electron energy. These solutions show that the effect of multiple acceleration of electrons in the ionospheric F-layer can lead to the formation of a slowly-varying high-energy “tail” in the distribution of the accelerated particles at energies of about tens of electron-volts. A cold fluid model is used to investigate instabilities associated with a velocity shear due to the self fields of a relativistic electron beam inside the beam tunnel of a gyrotron. General statements concerning the stability of an electron beam like the frequency and the growth rate are possible. We present the design and initial operation of a 96-kV 40-A magnetron injection gun for a 1.5-MW 110-GHz gyrotron. A critical parameter for the successful application of this electron gun is the uniformity of electron emission. The current-voltage curve of emission, at a series of temperatures, is measured. Analysis indicates that the work function of the emitter is 1.6 eV with a (total) spread of 0.07 /spl plusmn/ 0.01 eV. Measurement of the azimuthal emission uniformity with a rotating probe indicates that the work function variation around the azimuth, the global spread, is 0.04 /spl plusmn/ 0.02 eV. The spread due to local (microscopic scale) work function variations is then calculated to be 0.06 /spl plusmn/ 0.02 eV. Temperature variation can be ruled out as the cause of the observed emission nonuniformity.  相似文献

When an axially channeled electron emits one photon, its transverse kinetic energy decreases by roughly the same ratio as the longitudinal energy. If this ratio is not small compared to 1, the electron after emission spends a significantly larger fraction of its time in the strong field region than before emission, and the probability of emitting new phonons increases accordingly. This makes the cascade of emissions self-accelerating, and can explain the anomalously large energy radiated by 150 GeV electrons channeled in germanium in a recent experiment. 基于电子光学理论,通过编程进行大量的数值计算,设计了一支用于1THz回旋管的双阳极磁控注入式电子枪.对双阳极磁控注入电子枪的计算及设计进行了阐述,并对1 THz回旋管电子枪中高磁压缩比(fm=125)可能导致电子反转的问题进行了详细的分析和模拟.通过对电子枪进行了仿真和优化,最后计算和设计了一支速度比适中(α=1.3),速度零散较小(Δβ<8%) 的电子枪.  相似文献

The energy distributions of electrons of about 54, 75 and 97 Mev have been measured before and after passing through aluminum absorbers of thicknesses ranging from 0.730 to 5.574 gm/cm2. The electrons were accelerated by the LINAC of the Naval Postgraduate School. The most probable energy losses agree with the theory ofBlunck andWestphal for all thicknesses; the half widths of the distributions agree with theory except for large thicknesses, where they exceed the theoretical values. These results are in contrast to those ofBreuer, which indicate systematically large half widths and most probable energy losses which are greater than theory for thicknesses greater than about 2 gm/cm2. Since our data agree with those ofBreuer, the difference occurs in the treatment of the theory.  相似文献

A scheme to suppress the Rayleigh-Taylor instability has been investigated for a direct-drive inertial fusion target. In a high-Z doped-plastic target, two ablation surfaces are formed separately-one driven by thermal radiation and the other driven by electron conduction. The growth of the Rayleigh-Taylor instability is significantly suppressed on the radiation-driven ablation surface inside the target due to the large ablation velocity and long density scale length. A significant reduction of the growth rate was observed in simulations and experiments using a brominated plastic target. A new direct-drive pellet was designed using this scheme.  相似文献

We consider the initial problem of quasi-linear relaxation of synchrotron instability in a spatially homogeneous system of relativistic electrons embedded in a cold plasma. We analyze evolution of the energy spectrum of electrons and the frequency spectrum of radiation at the limit of low initial radiation energy density. At this limit, the problem is reduced to the solution of a diffusion equation with a stationary diffusion coefficient for the electron distribution over momentum which does not depend on the initial radiation energy density. A scheme for automated study of current-voltage characteristics of gyroresonance devices is developed. The effective emission spread at the cathodes of powerful gyrotrons is studied by analysis of current-voltage characteristics. Experimental data on the effective emission spread parameter for different modes are given. The permissible emission spread at the cathodes of powerful gyrotrons is estimated, and the dependence of the electron beam parameters on the cathode emission spread is presented.
