We present the results of experiments on the formation of a high-quality relativistic helical electron beam (HEB) in a magnetron-injection
gun. It is shown that suppression of parasitic excitation of microwaves in the input part of the transportation channel allows
eliminating high-voltage breakdowns in the gun and achieving greater beam compression. A modulation of the electron beam current
at the frequency of longitudinal electron oscillations between the cathode and the magnetic mirror in the trap, which is related
to the instability of the helical electron beam, has been observed for the first time. The modulation depth can reach tens
percent. Pickup of reflected electrons by a special diaphragm makes it possible to increase the achievable pitch factor, eliminate
the beam-current modulation and, as a result, form although with a current loss on the diaphragm, an HEB with record-breaking
values of the pitch factor, which exceed 2. For a moderate HEB compression, when the portion of reflected electrons is relatively
low, their pickup by the diaphragm allows one to form a beam in which the total energy of the transverse motion of electrons
conserves despite the loss of part of the current. After the optimization, a beam with an electron energy of 300 keV, a current
of 100 A, a pitch factor of 1.5, and a velocity spread of 20% is obtained for a 15% loss of the current on the diaphragm.

We show that it is possible to increase significantly (up to one-half of the Langmuir value) the current of the electron beam
in a magnetron-injection gun operated in the nonadiabatic regime of formation of a relativistic helical electron beam if the
velocity spread is small. The obtained beam has a current of 200 A, a velocity spread of about 10%, a pitch factor of about
1, and an electron energy of 340 keV.

根据8 mm回旋速调管放大器对双阳极磁控注入电子枪的要求,分析了电极形状、阳极电压、磁场、注电流对电子注横纵速度比和速度零散的影响,并进行了粒子模拟。分析表明:这些因素可归根为电场和磁场的作用,阴极附近高的电场有助于提高横纵速度比和降低速度零散;而高的磁场及低的磁压缩比将降低横纵速度比,但对速度零散影响无明显规律。在此基础上通过优化电极形状、磁场分布、电流、第一阳极电压和第二阳极电压,模拟并试制出工作电压65 kV、电流12 A、磁场1.4 T的双阳极电子枪,得到的横纵速度比值为1.4,横向速度零散为4.5%, 为8 mm回旋速调管提供了稳定高质量的电子注。 相似文献

The paper describes the operation and construction of an electron gun designed to form beams with variable transverse energy and a variable spread of magnetic moments. Transverse energy is acquired by the electrons as the beam passes through a weakly non-adiabatic magnetic step, and in an adiabatic motion through a growing magnetic field. The small spread of magnetic moments of the beam electrons is achieved by fulfilling the so-called focusing conditions which ensure that the spread of moments resulting from different initial radii of the particles is compensated by their initial radial velocities. 相似文献

The length of electron beam from a photocathode RF gun is determined by a spectrometer, according to the relative energy spread induced by the bunch length during the acceleration in a linac. For a photocathode RF gun, different laser injected phase and beam charge are studied. The compression is changed for the different laser phases, as from 10° to 30°, and the bunch length is lengthened due to the strong longitudinal space charge force, caused by the increased charge. 相似文献

Increasing the peak brightness is beneficial to various applications of the Thomson scattering X-ray source. A higher peak brightness of the scattered X-ray pulse demands a shorter scattering electron beam realized by beam compression in the electron beam-line. In this article, we study the possibility of compressing the electron beam in a typical S-band normal conducting photo-injector via ballistic bunching, through just adding a short RF linac section right behind the RF gun, so as to improve the peak brightness of the scattered x-ray pulse. Numerical optimization by ASTRA demonstrates that the peak current can increase from 50 A to > 300 A for a 500 pC, 10 ps FWHM electron pulse, while normalized transverse RMS emittance and RMS energy spread increases very little. Correspondingly, the peak brightness of the Thomson scattering X-ray source is estimated to increase about three times. 相似文献

BEPCⅡ— an upgrade project of the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC) is a factory type of e+e- collider. The fundamental requirements for its injector linac are the beam energy of 1.89GeV for on-energy injection and a 40mA positron beam current at the linac end with a low beam emittance of 1.6μm and a low energy spread of ±0.5% so as to guarantee a higher injection rate (≥50mA/min) to the storage ring. Since the positron flux is proportional to the primary electron beam power on the target, we will increase the electron gun current from 4A to 10A by using a new electron gun system and increase the primary electron energy from 120MeV to 240MeV. The positron source itself is an extremely important system for producing more positrons, including a positron converter target chamber, a 12kA flux modulator, the 7m focusing module with DC power supplies and the support. The new positron production linac from the electron gun to the positron source has been installed into the tunnel. In what follows, we will emphasize the positron source design, manufacture and tests. 相似文献

BXERL is a proposal for a test facility(Beijing X-ray Energy Recovery Linac),which requires its injector to provide an electron beam of 5 MeV,77 pC/ bunch at a repetition rate of 130 MHz(average current of 10 mA).In this paper,we present the design of the injector,which consists of a 500 kV photocathodeDC gun equipped with a GaAs cathode preparation device,a 1.3 GHz normal conducting RF buncher,two solenoids,and one cryomodule containing two 1.3 GHz 2-cell superconducting RF cavities as the energy booster.The detailed beam dynamics show that the injector can generate electron bunches with a RMS normalized emittance of 1.49 7rmm-mrad,a bunch length of 0.67 mm,a beam energy of 5 MeV and an energy spread of 0.72%. 相似文献

A technique for controlling the electric field distribution near the cathode of a magnetron injection gun is developed. The feasibility of improving the quality of a helical electron beam by optimizing the electric field distribution in a pulsed 4-mm-wave gyrotron is studied theoretically and experimentally. Field distributions are obtained that minimize the electron velocity spread in the beam, coefficient of electron reflection from a magnetic mirror, and intensity of parasitic low-frequency oscillations. It is demonstrated that the gyrotron efficiency can be increased through a rise in the beam quality at the optimized electric field distribution. 相似文献

基于绝热压缩原理和强流电子光学理论,设计了一只170 GHz回旋管双阳极磁控注入电子枪,经过理论分析及计算,采用仿真软件进行模拟和优化,最终得到的电子枪的电子注速度比为1.31,横向速度零散度为3.5%,纵向速度零散度为6.1%,束电流为51 A。讨论了阴极磁场、控制阳极电压和第二阳极电压等因素对电子注性能的影响,发现电子注的速度比和速度零散度对这些影响因子的变化都非常敏感:随着阴极磁场的增大,电子注的速度比减小,纵向速度零散度先增大后减小,横向速度零散度先减小后增大;阳极角越接近阴极倾角,纵向速度零散度越小;阳极角向着减小阴阳极间距的方向变化时横向速度零散度变小;增大第一阳极电压可以增大电子注的速度比和电子注的速度零散度。在两阳极电压不变的情况下,增大阴阳极之间的距离会使电子注的速度零散度和电子注的速度比减小。 相似文献
