In this paper, we construct the index bundle gerbe of a family of self-adjoint Dirac-type operators, refining a construction of Segal. In a special case, we construct a geometric bundle gerbe called the caloron bundle gerbe, which comes with a natural connection and curving, and show that it is isomorphic to the analytically constructed index bundle gerbe. We apply these constructions to certain moduli spaces associated to compact Riemann surfaces, constructing on these moduli spaces, natural bundle gerbes with connection and curving, whose 3-curvature represent Dixmier-Douady classes that are generators of the third de Rham cohomology groups of these moduli spaces.  相似文献

We explain how multiplicative bundle gerbes over a compact, connected and simple Lie group G lead to a certain fusion category of equivariant bundle gerbe modules given by pre-quantizable Hamiltonian LG-manifolds arising from Alekseev-Malkin-Meinrenken’s quasi-Hamiltonian G-spaces. The motivation comes from string theory namely, by generalising the notion of D-branes in G to allow subsets of G that are the image of a G-valued moment map we can define a ‘fusion of D-branes’ and a map to the Verlinde ring of the loop group of G which preserves the product structure. The idea is suggested by the theorem of Freed-Hopkins-Teleman. The case where G is not simply connected is studied carefully in terms of equivariant bundle gerbe modules for multiplicative bundle gerbes.  相似文献

Consider a compact Kähler manifold endowed with a prequantum bundle. Following the geometric quantization scheme, the associated quantum spaces are the spaces of holomorphic sections of the tensor powers of the prequantum bundle. In this paper we construct an asymptotic representation of the prequantum bundle automorphism group in these quantum spaces. We estimate the characters of these representations under some transversality assumption. The formula obtained generalizes in some sense the Lefschetz fixed point formula for the automorphisms of the prequantum bundle preserving its holomorphic structure. Our results will be applied in two forthcoming papers to the quantum representation of the mapping class group.  相似文献

We explore a new direction in representation theory which comes from holomorphic gerbes on complex tori. The analogue of the theta group of a holomorphic line bundle on a (compact) complex torus is developed for gerbes in place of line bundles. The theta group of symmetries of the gerbe has the structure of a Picard groupoid. We calculate it explicitly as a central extension of the group of symmetries of the gerbe by the Picard groupoid of the underlying complex torus. We discuss obstruction to equivariance and give an example of a group of symmetries of a gerbe with respect to which the gerbe cannot be equivariant. We calculate the obstructions to invariant gerbes for some group of translations of a torus to be equivariant. We survey various types of representations of the group of symmetries of a gerbe on the stack of sheaves of modules on the gerbe and the associated abelian category of sheaves on the gerbe (twisted sheaves).  相似文献

We revisit the gauging of rigid symmetries in two-dimensional bosonic sigma models with a Wess-Zumino term in the action. Such a term is related to a background closed 3-form H on the target space. More exactly, the sigma-model Feynman amplitudes of classical fields are associated to a bundle gerbe with connection of curvature H over the target space. Under conditions that were unraveled more than twenty years ago, the classical amplitudes may be coupled to the topologically trivial gauge fields of the symmetry group in a way which assures infinitesimal gauge invariance. We show that the resulting gauged Wess-Zumino amplitudes may, nevertheless, exhibit global gauge anomalies that we fully classify. The general results are illustrated on the example of the WZW and the coset models of conformal field theory. The latter are shown to be inconsistent in the presence of global anomalies. We introduce a notion of equivariant gerbes that allow an anomaly-free coupling of the Wess-Zumino amplitudes to all gauge fields, including the ones in non-trivial principal bundles. Obstructions to the existence of equivariant gerbes and their classification are discussed. The choice of different equivariant structures on the same bundle gerbe gives rise to a new type of discrete-torsion ambiguities in the gauged amplitudes. An explicit construction of gerbes equivariant with respect to the adjoint symmetries over compact simply connected simple Lie groups is given.  相似文献

We show that the prequantum line bundle on the moduli space of flat SU(2) connections on a closed Riemann surface of positive genus has degree 1. It then follows from work of Lawton and the second author that the classifying map for this line bundle induces a homotopy equivalence between the stable moduli space of flat SU(n) connections, in the limit as n tends to infinity, and \( {\mathbb C}P^\infty \). Applications to the stable moduli space of flat unitary connections are also discussed.  相似文献

Let (M, ω) be an integral symplectic manifold. We study a family of hermitian vector bundles on the space \({\mathcal{J}}\) of almost complex structures on M compatible with ω, whose fibers consist of nearly holomorphic sections of powers of a prequantum line bundle. We obtain asymptotics of the curvature of a natural connection in these bundles. These results, together with Toeplitz operator theory, provide another proof of Donaldson’s result that the action of HAM(M) on \({\mathcal{J}}\) is hamiltonian with moment map the scalar curvature. We also give an example involving Teichmüller space and discuss a relationship between parallel transport and the Schrödinger equation.  相似文献

We establish a connection between two recently proposed approaches to the understanding of the geometric origin of the Fu–Kane–Mele invariant \(\mathrm {FKM}\in \mathbb {Z}_2\), arising in the context of two-dimensional time-reversal symmetric topological insulators. On the one hand, the \(\mathbb {Z}_2\) invariant can be formulated in terms of the Berry connection and the Berry curvature of the Bloch bundle of occupied states over the Brillouin torus. On the other, using techniques from the theory of bundle gerbes, it is possible to provide an expression for \(\mathrm {FKM}\) containing the square root of the Wess–Zumino amplitude for a certain U(N)-valued field over the Brillouin torus. We link the two formulas by showing directly the equality between the above-mentioned Wess–Zumino amplitude and the Berry phase, as well as between their square roots. An essential tool of independent interest is an equivariant version of the adjoint Polyakov–Wiegmann formula for fields \(\mathbb {T}^2 \rightarrow U(N)\), of which we provide a proof employing only basic homotopy theory and circumventing the language of bundle gerbes.  相似文献

This paper generalizes Bismut’s equivariant Chern character to the setting of abelian gerbes. In particular, associated to an abelian gerbe with connection, an equivariantly closed differential form is constructed on the space of maps of a torus into the manifold. These constructions are made explicit using a new local version of the higher Hochschild complex, resulting in differential forms given by iterated integrals. Connections to two dimensional topological field theories are indicated. Similarly, this local higher Hochschild complex is used to calculate the 2-holonomy of an abelian gerbe along any closed oriented surface, as well as the derivative of 2-holonomy, which in the case of a torus fits into a sequence of higher holonomies and their differentials.  相似文献

We consider -complexes as functors over an appropriate linear category in order to show first that the Krull-Schmidt Theorem holds, then to prove that amplitude cohomology (called generalized cohomology by M. Dubois-Violette) only vanishes on injective functors providing a well defined functor on the stable category. For left truncated -complexes, we show that amplitude cohomology discriminates the isomorphism class up to a projective functor summand. Moreover amplitude cohomology of positive -complexes is proved to be isomorphic to an Ext functor of an indecomposable -complex inside the abelian functor category. Finally we show that for the monoidal structure of -complexes a Clebsch-Gordan formula holds, in other words the fusion rules for -complexes can be determined. Topological T-duality is a transformation taking a gerbe on a principal torus bundle to a gerbe on a principal dual-torus bundle. We give a new geometric construction of T-dualization, which allows the duality to be extended in the following two directions. First, bundles of groups other than tori, even bundles of some nonabelian groups, can be dualized. Second, bundles whose duals are families of noncommutative groups (in the sense of noncommutative geometry) can be treated, though in this case the base space of the bundles is best viewed as a topological stack. Some methods developed for the construction may be of independent interest. These are a Pontryagin type duality that interchanges commutative principal bundles with gerbes, a nonabelian Takai type duality for groupoids, and the computation of certain equivariant Brauer groups. We show that two-dimensional JT gravity, the holographic dual of the IR fixed point of the SYK model, can be obtained from the consistent Kaluza–Klein reduction of a class of EMD theories in general D dimensions. For \(D=4\), 5, the EMD theories can be themselves embedded in supergravities. These exact embeddings provide the holographic duals in the framework of strings and M-theory. We find that a class of JT gravity solutions can be lifted to become time-dependent charged extremal black holes. They can be further lifted, for example, to describe the D1/D5-branes where the worldsheet is the Milne universe, rather than the typical Minkowski spacetime.  相似文献

The parafermionic cosets \(\mathsf {C}_{k} = {\text {Com}} ( \mathsf {H} , \mathsf {L}_{k}(\mathfrak {sl}_{2}) )\) are studied for negative admissible levels k, as are certain infinite-order simple current extensions \(\mathsf {B}_{k}\) of \(\mathsf {C}_{k}\). Under the assumption that the tensor theory considerations of Huang, Lepowsky and Zhang apply to \(\mathsf {C}_{k}\), irreducible \(\mathsf {C}_{k}\)- and \(\mathsf {B}_{k}\)-modules are obtained from those of \(\mathsf {L}_{k}(\mathfrak {sl}_{2})\). Assuming the validity of a certain Verlinde-type formula likewise gives the Grothendieck fusion rules of these irreducible modules. Notably, there are only finitely many irreducible \(\mathsf {B}_{k}\)-modules. The irreducible \(\mathsf {C}_{k}\)- and \(\mathsf {B}_{k}\)-characters are computed and the latter are shown, when supplemented by pseudotraces, to carry a finite-dimensional representation of the modular group. The natural conjecture then is that the \(\mathsf {B}_{k}\) are \(C_2\)-cofinite vertex operator algebras.  相似文献

We present an explicit construction of the basic bundle gerbes with connection over all connected compact simple Lie groups. These are geometric objects that appear naturally in the Lagrangian approach to the WZW conformal field theories. Our work extends the recent construction of Meinrenken [The basic gerbe over a compact simple Lie group, L’Enseignement Mathematique, in press. arXiv:math. DG/0209194] restricted to the case of simply connected groups.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider solutions and spectral functions of M-theory from Milne spaces with extra free dimensions. Conformal deformations to the metric associated with real hyperbolic space forms are derived. For the three-dimensional case, the orbifold identifications , where Id is the identity matrix, is analyzed in detail. The spectrum of an eleven-dimensional field theory can be obtained with the help of the theory of harmonic functions in the fundamental domain of this group and it is associated with the cusp forms and the Eisenstein series. The supersymmetry surviving for supergravity solutions involving real hyperbolic space factors is briefly discussed.Received: 30 November 2004, Published online: 25 January 2005  相似文献

We develop the theory of Chern-Simons bundle 2-gerbes and multiplicative bundle gerbes associated to any principal G-bundle with connection and a class in H4(BG, ℤ) for a compact semi-simple Lie group G. The Chern-Simons bundle 2-gerbe realises differential geometrically the Cheeger-Simons invariant. We apply these notions to refine the Dijkgraaf-Witten correspondence between three dimensional Chern-Simons functionals and Wess-Zumino-Witten models associated to the group G. We do this by introducing a lifting to the level of bundle gerbes of the natural map from H4(BG, ℤ) to H3(G, ℤ). The notion of a multiplicative bundle gerbe accounts geometrically for the subtleties in this correspondence for non-simply connected Lie groups. The implications for Wess-Zumino-Witten models are also discussed. The authors acknowledge the support of the Australian Research Council. We analyze in a simple calculation the way 2-dimensional moduli induce a noise-like mixing between the right and left sectors of the 1-loop partition function of bosonic closed strings. As it is a direct consequence of string interactions, we argue it must be taken as a renormalization to the tree-level dynamics as far as the Wilsonian view on renormalization group is kept. We also highlight the way this noise effect brings a thermodynamical meaning to space-filling DD-branes.  相似文献
