Let M be a smooth and compact moduli space of stable coherent sheaves on a projective surface S with an effective (or trivial) anti-canonical line bundle. We find generators for the cohomology ring of M, with integral coefficients. When S is simply connected and a universal sheaf E exists over S×M, then its class [E] admits a Künneth decomposition as a class in the tensor product of the topological K-rings. The generators are the Chern classes of the Künneth factors of [E] in . The general case is similar.  相似文献

Grothendieck polynomials, introduced by Lascoux and Schützenberger, are certain K-theory representatives for Schubert varieties. Symplectic Grothendieck polynomials, described more recently by Wyser and Yong, represent the K-theory classes of orbit closures for the complex symplectic group acting on the complete flag variety. We prove a transition formula for symplectic Grothendieck polynomials and study their stable limits. We show that each of the K-theoretic Schur P-functions of Ikeda and Naruse arises from a limiting procedure applied to symplectic Grothendieck polynomials representing certain “Grassmannian” orbit closures.  相似文献

In this paper we prove, using a refinement of Terracini's Lemma, a sharp lower bound for the degree of (higher) secant varieties to a given projective variety, which extends the well known lower bound for the degree of a variety in terms of its dimension and codimension in projective space. Moreover we study varieties for which the bound is attained proving some general properties related to tangential projections, e.g. these varieties are rational. In particular we completely classify surfaces (and curves) for which the bound is attained. It turns out that these surfaces enjoy some maximality properties for their embedding dimension in terms of their degree or sectional genus. This is related to classical beautiful results of Castelnuovo and Enriques that we revise here in terms of adjunction theory.  相似文献

We study the structure constants of the class algebra of the wreath products Γn associated to an arbitrary finite group Γ with respect to the basis of conjugacy classes. We show that a suitable filtration on gives rise to the graded ring with non-negative integer structure constants independent of n (some of which are computed), which are then encoded in a Farahat-Higman ring . The real conjugacy classes of Γ come to play a distinguished role and are treated in detail in the case when Γ is a subgroup of . The above results provide new insight to the cohomology rings of Hilbert schemes of points on a quasi-projective surface X.  相似文献

In this paper we study the group A0(X) of zero-dimensional cycles of degree 0 modulo rational equivalence on a projective homogeneous algebraic variety X. To do this we translate rational equivalence of 0-cycles on a projective variety into R-equivalence on symmetric powers of the variety. For certain homogeneous varieties, we then relate these symmetric powers to moduli spaces of étale subalgebras of central simple algebras which we construct. This allows us to show A0(X)=0 for certain classes of homogeneous varieties for groups of each of the classical types, extending previous results of Swan/Karpenko, of Merkurjev, and of Panin.  相似文献

We recall the basic geometric properties of the full lattice variety, the projective variety parametrizing special lattices over Witt vectors which was introduced in Haboush (2005) [6]. It is an analog in unequal characteristic, of a certain Schubert variety in the affine Grassmannian for , and it is normal and a locally complete intersection (Haboush and Sano, submitted for publication [7], Sano (2004) [15]). In this paper, I prove that the complement of its smooth locus, the subregular variety in it, is also normal and a locally complete intersection. The result is analogous to the geometry of the subregular subvariety of the nilpotent cone.  相似文献

We determine the universal deformation rings R(G,V) of certain mod 2 representations V of a finite group G which belong to a 2-modular block of G whose defect groups are isomorphic to a generalized quaternion group D. We show that for these V, a question raised by the author and Chinburg concerning the relation of R(G,V) to D has an affirmative answer. We also show that R(G,V) is a complete intersection even though R(G/N,V) need not be for certain normal subgroups N of G which act trivially on V.  相似文献

The empirical likelihood method is especially useful for constructing confidence intervals or regions of parameters of interest. Yet, the technique cannot be directly applied to partially linear single-index models for longitudinal data due to the within-subject correlation. In this paper, a bias-corrected block empirical likelihood (BCBEL) method is suggested to study the models by accounting for the within-subject correlation. BCBEL shares some desired features: unlike any normal approximation based method for confidence region, the estimation of parameters with the iterative algorithm is avoided and a consistent estimator of the asymptotic covariance matrix is not needed. Because of bias correction, the BCBEL ratio is asymptotically chi-squared, and hence it can be directly used to construct confidence regions of the parameters without any extra Monte Carlo approximation that is needed when bias correction is not applied. The proposed method can naturally be applied to deal with pure single-index models and partially linear models for longitudinal data. Some simulation studies are carried out and an example in epidemiology is given for illustration.  相似文献

Varieties of Sums of Powers describe the additive decompositions of a homogeneous polynomial into powers of linear forms. The study of these varieties dates back to Sylvester and Hilbert, but only few of them, for special degrees and number of variables, are concretely identified. In this paper we aim to understand a general birational behavior of VSP. To do this we birationally embed these varieties into Grassmannians and prove the rational connectedness of many VSP in arbitrary degrees and number of variables.  相似文献

We introduce here a method which uses étale neighborhoods to extend results from smooth semi-local rings to arbitrary semi-local rings A by passing to the henselization of a smooth presentation of A. The technique is used to show that étale cohomology of A agrees with Galois cohomology, to show that the Merkuriev-Suslin theorem holds for A, and to describe torsion in K2(A).  相似文献

We prove the Arad–Herzog conjecture for various families of finite simple groups — if AA and BB are nontrivial conjugacy classes, then ABAB is not a conjugacy class. We also prove that if GG is a finite simple group of Lie type and AA and BB are nontrivial conjugacy classes, either both semisimple or both unipotent, then ABAB is not a conjugacy class. We also prove a strong version of the Arad–Herzog conjecture for simple algebraic groups and in particular show that almost always the product of two conjugacy classes in a simple algebraic group consists of infinitely many conjugacy classes. As a consequence we obtain a complete classification of pairs of centralizers in a simple algebraic group which have dense product. A special case of this has been used by Prasad to prove a uniqueness result for Tits systems in quasi-reductive groups. Our final result is a generalization of the Baer–Suzuki theorem for pp-elements with p≥5p5.  相似文献

Let {X(t):t∈[0,)} be a centered stationary Gaussian process. We study the exact asymptotics of P(sups∈[0,T]X(s)>u), as u, where T is an independent of {X(t)} nonnegative random variable. It appears that the heaviness of T impacts the form of the asymptotics, leading to three scenarios: the case of integrable T, the case of T having regularly varying tail distribution with parameter λ∈(0,1) and the case of T having slowly varying tail distribution.  相似文献

In this paper we find upper bounds for the nilpotency degree of some ideals in the cohomology ring of a finite group by studying fixed point free actions of the group on suitable spaces. The ideals we study are the kernels of restriction maps to certain collections of proper subgroups. We recover the Quillen-Venkov lemma and the Quillen F-injectivity theorem as corollaries, and discuss some generalizations and further applications.We then consider the essential cohomology conjecture, and show that it is related to group actions on connected graphs. We discuss an obstruction for constructing a fixed point free action of a group on a connected graph with zero “k-invariant” and study the class related to this obstruction. It turns out that this class is a “universal essential class” for the group and controls many questions about the groups essential cohomology and transfers from proper subgroups.  相似文献

We prove that the Néron-Severi groups of several complex Fermat surfaces are generated by lines. Specifically, we obtain these new results for all degrees up to 100 that are relatively prime to 6. The proof uses reduction modulo a supersingular prime. The techniques are developed in detail. They can be applied to other surfaces and varieties as well.  相似文献
