In this paper we consider a one-warehouse N-retailer inventory system characterized by access to real-time point-of-sale data, and a time based dispatching and shipment consolidation policy at the warehouse. More precisely, inventory is reviewed continuously, while a consolidated shipment (for example, a truck) to all retailers is dispatched from the warehouse at regular time intervals. The focus is on investigating the cost benefits of using state-dependent myopic allocation policies instead of a simple FCFS (First-Come-First-Serve) rule to allocate shipped goods to the retailers. The analysis aims to shed some light on when, if ever, FCFS is a reasonable policy to use in this type of system? The FCFS allocations of items to retailers are determined by the sequence in which retailer orders (or equivalently customer demands) arrive to the warehouse. Applying the myopic policy enables the warehouse to postpone the allocation decision to the moment of shipment (from the warehouse) or the moments of delivery (to the different retailers), and to base it on the inventory information available at those times. The myopic allocation method we study is often used in the literature on periodic review systems.  相似文献

This paper presents a location model that assigns online demands to the capacitated regional warehouses currently serving in-store demands in a multi-channel supply chain. The model explicitly considers the trade-off between the risk pooling effect and the transportation cost in a two-echelon inventory/logistics system. Keeping the delivery network of the in-store demands unchanged, the model aims to minimize the transportation cost, inventory cost, and fixed handling cost in the system when assigning the online demands. We formulate the assignment problem as a non-linear integer programming model. Lagrangian relaxation based procedures are proposed to solve the model, both the general case and an important special case. Numerical experiments show the efficiency of our algorithms. Furthermore, we find that because of the pooling effect the variance of in-store demands currently served by a warehouse is an important parameter of the warehouse when it is considered as a candidate for supplying online demands. Highly uncertain in-store demands, as well as low transportation cost per unit, can make a warehouse appealing. We illustrate with numerical examples the trade-off between the pooling effect and the transportation cost in the assignment problem. We also evaluate the cost savings between the policy derived from the model, which integrates the transportation cost with the pooling effect, and the commonly used policy, which is based only on the transportation cost. Results show that the derived policy can reduce 1.5–7.5% cost in average and in many instances the percentage of cost savings is more than 10%.  相似文献

This paper presents stylized models for conducting performance analysis of the manufacturing supply chain network (SCN) in a stochastic setting for batch ordering. We use queueing models to capture the behavior of SCN. The analysis is clubbed with an inventory optimization model, which can be used for designing inventory policies . In the first case, we model one manufacturer with one warehouse, which supplies to various retailers. We determine the optimal inventory level at the warehouse that minimizes total expected cost of carrying inventory, back order cost associated with serving orders in the backlog queue, and ordering cost. In the second model we impose service level constraint in terms of fill rate (probability an order is filled from stock at warehouse), assuming that customers do not balk from the system. We present several numerical examples to illustrate the model and to illustrate its various features. In the third case, we extend the model to a three-echelon inventory model which explicitly considers the logistics process.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is to evaluate the value of integrating tactical warehouse and inventory decisions. Therefore, a global warehouse and inventory model is presented and solved. In order to solve this mathematical model, two solution methodologies are developed which offer different level of integration of warehouse and inventory decisions. Computational tests are performed on a real world database using multiple scenarios differing by the warehouse capacity limits and the warehouse and inventory costs. Our observation is that the total cost of the inventory and warehouse systems can be reduced drastically by taking into account the warehouse capacity restrictions in the inventory planning decisions, in an aggregate way. Moreover additional inventory and warehouse savings can be achieved by using more sophisticated integration methods for inventory and warehouse decisions.  相似文献

Cross docking is a warehouse management concept in which items delivered to a warehouse by inbound trucks are immediately sorted out, reorganized based on customer demands, routed and loaded into outbound trucks for delivery to customers without the items being actually held in inventory at the warehouse. If any item is held in storage, it is usually for a brief period of time that is generally less than 24 hours. This way, the turnaround times for customer orders, inventory management cost, and warehouse space requirements are reduced. One of the objectives for cross docking systems is how well the trucks can be scheduled at the dock and how the items in inbound trucks can be allocated to the outbound trucks to optimize on some measure of system performance. The objective of this research is to find the best truck docking or scheduling sequence for both inbound and outbound trucks to minimize total operation time when a temporary storage buffer to hold items temporarily is located at the shipping dock. The product assignment to trucks and the docking sequences of the inbound and outbound trucks are all determined simultaneously.  相似文献

We consider a real-world automobile supply chain in which a first-tier supplier serves an assembler and determines its procurement transport planning for a second-tier supplier by using the automobile assembler’s demand information, the available capacity of trucks and inventory levels. The proposed fuzzy multi-objective integer linear programming model (FMOILP) improves the transport planning process for material procurement at the first-tier supplier level, which is subject to product groups composed of items that must be ordered together, order lot sizes, fuzzy aspiration levels for inventory and used trucks and uncertain truck maximum available capacities and minimum percentages of demand in stock. Regarding the defuzzification process, we apply two existing methods based on the weighted average method to convert the FMOILP into a crisp MOILP to then apply two different aggregation functions, which we compare, to transform this crisp MOILP into a single objective MILP model. A sensitivity analysis is included to show the impact of the objectives weight vector on the final solutions. The model, based on the full truck load material pick method, provides the quantity of products and number of containers to be loaded per truck and period. An industrial automobile supply chain case study demonstrates the feasibility of applying the proposed model and the solution methodology to a realistic procurement transport planning problem. The results provide lower stock levels and higher occupation of the trucks used to fulfill both demand and minimum inventory requirements than those obtained by the manual spreadsheet-based method.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to study the periodic arc-routing problem when the arcs of a network behave as customers, and sufficient material is delivered so that each achieves its desired inventory level. Therefore, routing and inventory decisions are made simultaneously. Applications include dust suppression in open-pit mines or forest roads and plant watering along sidewalks or street medians. A truck periodically sprays water along the edges of a network. The humidity reaches a desired level and is then consumed over time until water is delivered again. The quantity of water delivered can be fixed or variable; we consider both scenarios and propose a mathematical model for each. Results are reported to validate the model. The contribution of this paper is the first mathematical model that combines inventory and routing decisions in the arc-routing domain.  相似文献

Consider a finite capacity automatic assembly system consisting of a set of tandem work stations linked by a material handling system. Each work station consists of a set of machines and a local preprocessed inventory. The material handling system consists of a set of continuous line conveyors. Each conveyor has a beginning and an end with a specified length, velocity and capacity. The performance of the above manufacturing system is analyzed based on a mixed queuing network model, in the steady state. A methodology is presented for controlling blocking of the manufacturing system such that the probability of finding either a work station or a conveyor blocked will be sufficiently close to zero. Finally, numerical results are provided and the concluding remarks are discussed.  相似文献

Having sufficient inventories in the forward or piece picking area of a warehouse is an essential condition for warehouse operations. As pickers consume the inventory in the piece racks, there is a risk of stockout. This can be reduced by the timely replenishment of products from the bulk reserve area to the forward area. We develop and compare three policies for prioritizing replenishments for the case where order picking and replenishments occur concurrently because of time restrictions. The first policy, based on the ratio of available inventory to wave demand, reduces the number of stockouts considerably. The other two more sophisticated policies reduce the number of stockouts even more but require much more computation time, and are more costly in terms of implementation, maintenance and software updates. We present the results of implementing one of these policies in the warehouse of a large cosmetics firm.  相似文献

Devising manufacturing/distribution strategies for supply chains and determining their parameter values have been challenging problems. Linking production management to stock keeping processes improves the planning of the supply chain activities, including material management, culminating in improved customer service levels. In this study, we investigate a multi-echelon supply chain consisting of a supplier, a plant, a distribution center and a retailer. Material flow between stages is driven by reorder point/order quantity inventory control policies. We develop a model to analyze supply chain behavior using some key performance metrics such as the time averages of inventory and backorder levels, as well as customer service levels at each echelon. The model is validated against simulation, yielding good agreement of robust performance metrics. The metrics are then used within an optimization framework to design the supply chain so as to minimize expected total system costs. The outcome of the optimization framework specifies how to move inventory throughout the supply chain and how to set inventory control parameters, i.e., reorder levels and replenishment batch sizes.  相似文献

This article concerns two-echelon inventory/distribution system, consisting of a warehouse and a retailer. We assume that the demand is deterministic and stockouts are not permitted. Two criteria are considered: to minimize the annual inventory cost and the annual total number of damaged items by improper shipment handling. The problem consists of determining the non-dominated inventory policies in such a way that the trade-off between both criteria is achieved. We present the characterization of the non-dominated optimal solution set and we use this result to correct the solution method previously proposed by other authors for a problem with identical cost structure. An efficient algorithm to calculate the non-dominated solution set is introduced. Computational results on several randomly generated problems are reported.  相似文献

This paper examines a Newsvendor framework in which a wholesaler who sells products to retailers is subject to inaccuracies in inventory data. The wholesaler’s decision regarding the management of his warehouse inventory is based on inventory data recorded in the information system. We assume that the wholesaler uses barcode labels and scanners in order to gather information concerning the available inventory in the warehouse. Because of errors arising during the manual barcode scanning process, the information on the available inventory level can deviate from the physical quantity and can result in an additional cost. This paper quantifies the economic impact of having uncertainty on the inventory level. We first analyze the case of a wholesaler that is not aware of inventory errors or chooses to ignore them in order to evaluate the efficiency loss due to errors compared with an error free situation. We then assess the effect of various actions enabling to tackle the inventory inaccuracy issue with a particular focus on actions such as the deployment of a new data capture technology.  相似文献

This paper considers a single-item, two-echelon, continuous-review inventory model. A number of retailers have their stock replenished from a central warehouse. The warehouse in turn replenishes stock from an external supplier. The demand processes on the retailers are independent Poisson. Demand not met at a retailer is lost. The order quantity from each retailer on the warehouse and from the warehouse on the supplier takes the same fixed value Q, an exogenous variable determined by packaging and handling constraints. Retailer i follows a (QRi) control policy. The warehouse operates an (SQ, (S − 1)Q) policy, with non-negative integer S. If the warehouse is in stock then the lead time for retailer i is the fixed transportation time Li from the warehouse to that retailer. Otherwise retailer orders are met, after a delay, on a first-come first-served basis. The lead time on a warehouse order is fixed. Two further assumptions are made: that each retailer may only have one order outstanding at any time and that the transportation time from the warehouse to a retailer is not less than the warehouse lead time. The performance measures of interest are the average total stock in the system and the fraction of demand met in the retailers. Procedures for determining these performance measures and optimising the behaviour of the system are developed.  相似文献

In this paper a deterministic inventory model is developed for a single deteriorating item which is stored in two different warehouses. A rented warehouse is used to store the excess units over the fixed capacity W of the own warehouse. The rented warehouse is assumed to charge higher unit holding cost than the own warehouse, but to offer a better preserving facility resulting in a lower rate of deterioration for the goods than the own warehouse. The optimal stock level for the beginning of the period is found and the model developed is shown to agree with the order level model for non deteriorating items with a single storage facility. An illustration to show the applicability of the model is also presented.  相似文献

针对需求受库存水平影响的变质品的两货栈系统,本文首先考虑了允许缺货但缺货要补情形下,分别给出了L1系统(库存系统只用自己的货栈存放物品)和L2系统(库存系统使用自己货栈和租用货栈存放物品)时,销售商的库存和运输策略模型。其次给出了允许缺货但缺货不补L1系统和L2系统时,销售商的库存和运输策略,并对模型最优解作了相关分析,最后给出算例,给销售商实际的库存管理提供了理论依据。  相似文献
