In this paper, we derive an analytical expression for the screened Coulomb potential between charge carriers in quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) semiconductor structures. As an application, this potential has been used to investigate the screening effect on the binding energy of a neutral donor (D0D0) in quantum wires (QWRs). It is found that the screening effect decreases the neutral donor binding energy, and the screening effects are more obvious in wide QWRs than that in narrow ones. Dependence of screening length on temperature and carrier concentration has also been discussed.  相似文献

Scanning-tunneling spectroscopy at 5 K was used to investigate the electrostatic potential profile on the Si(111)-square root of 3 x square root of 3 Ag surface at subnanometer spatial resolution. The potential was measured from an energy-level shift of electronic states on the surface. The potential images obtained reveal that the potential drops around the steps and Ag adsorbates, upon which positive charges are presumably accumulated. The profiles of the reduced potentials are explained with the screening of potential due to the charges by two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) existing on the surface. The Friedel oscillation, which results from the screening and has a period of the half Fermi wavelength of the 2DEG, was also observed in the potential images.  相似文献

The photoelectron momentum distribution of H+2in circularly polarized laser fields is studied based on classical trajectory calculations. We screen Coulomb potentials at different radii, and trace trajectories of an ensemble of electrons in such screened Coulomb potentials and circularly polarized laser fields. Simulations show that electron trajectories are bent by Coulomb fields, resulting in the laser-intensity-dependent drift of photoelectron momentum distributions in the laser polarization plane. This study intuitively explains how Coulomb potentials modify photoelectron momenta.  相似文献

A brief survey is presented of studies of the metastable state of a system of classical Coulomb particles. The first complete exposition of the various aspects of this problem was published in the journalIzvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika. In this article, the focus is on analysis of the fundamental contradiction between the behavior of a dynamic system of many Coulomb particles and kinetic models based on the principle of detailed balance in the traditional formulation. It is shown in particular that detailed balance of the electron transitions between the energy levels exists in the metastable state observed previously by the authors for a system of many Coulomb particles. Detailed balance exists in the metastable state with an electron distribution that is far from the Boltzmann distribution. Detailed balance also exists with the Boltzmann distribution of electrons in a state of thermodynamic equilibrium. Institute of General Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. A model with competing short-ranged attractions and long-ranged repulsions that describes self-organized patterns in systems like Langmuir monolayers, magnetic films, and adsorbed monolayers is studied using numerical simulations and analytic theory. Simulations provide strong evidence confirming that the stripe phase order is destroyed in a defect unbinding transition. Large scale computer simulations are in agreement with an analytic scaling theory, which also predicts an eventual crossover from defect-mediated stripe melting to a spin-disordering (or particle-mixing) mechanism with decreasing repulsion strength.  相似文献

Utilizing Hartree-Fock self-consistent field wave functions, accurate values of the potential energy shift at the nucleus due to atomic electrons have been determined for a large number of atoms. An extensive numerical table of values of the shift,V 0, is given and comparison is made with earlier approximate results obtained from the Thomas-Fermi and Thomas-Fermi-Dirac statistical models and with estimates fromK binding energy data. In the calculation of screening corrections to Fermi functions, the Hartree-Fock results present a considerable improvement over earlier estimates from the aforementioned methods.  相似文献

The dispersion of magnetoplasma and plasma excitations in two-dimensional electron systems, whose edges are formed by a voltage applied to a metallic gate, has been studied. A substantial decrease in the plasma wave frequency as compared to the plasma frequency measured in the etched mesas with the same geometry, size, and electron density has been observed. The dependence of the observed frequency softening on the structure size has been studied and the laterally screened plasma excitation has been shown to violate the square-root dispersion relation.  相似文献

Small three-dimensional strongly coupled charged particles in a spherical confinement potential arrange themselves in a nested shell structure. By means of experiments, computer simulations, and theoretical analysis, the sensitivity of their structural properties to the type of interparticle forces is explored. While the normalized shell radii are found to be independent of shielding, the shell occupation numbers are sensitive to screening and are quantitatively explained by an isotropic Yukawa model.  相似文献
