The toric Hilbert scheme is a parameter space for all ideals with the same multigraded Hilbert function as a given toric ideal. Unlike the classical Hilbert scheme, it is unknown whether toric Hilbert schemes are connected. We construct a graph on all the monomial ideals on the scheme, called the flip graph, and prove that the toric Hilbert scheme is connected if and only if the flip graph is connected. These graphs are used to exhibit curves in P 4 whose associated toric Hilbert schemes have arbitrary dimension. We show that the flip graph maps into the Baues graph of all triangulations of the point configuration defining the toric ideal. Inspired by the recent discovery of a disconnected Baues graph, we close with results that suggest the existence of a disconnected flip graph and hence a disconnected toric Hilbert scheme. We define phylogenetic projective toric model of a trivalent graph as a generalization of a binary symmetric model of a trivalent phylogenetic tree. Generators of the projective coordinate ring of the models of graphs with one cycle are explicitly described. The phylogenetic models of graphs with the same topological invariants are deformation-equivalent and share the same Hilbert function. We also provide an algorithm to compute the Hilbert function.  相似文献

Given a finite, simple, vertex-weighted graph, we construct a graded associative (noncommutative) algebra, whose generators correspond to vertices and whose ideal of relations has generators that are graded commutators corresponding to edges. We show that the Hilbert series of this algebra is the inverse of the clique polynomial of the graph. Using this result it easy to recognize if the ideal is inert, from which strong results on the algebra follow. Noncommutative Gr?bner bases play an important role in our proof. There is an interesting application to toric topology. This algebra arises naturally from a partial product of spheres, which is a special case of a generalized moment?Cangle complex. We apply our result to the loop-space homology of this space.  相似文献

We present families of tableaux which interpolate between the classical semi-standard Young tableaux and matching field tableaux. Algebraically, this corresponds to SAGBI bases of Plücker algebras. We show that each such family of tableaux leads to a toric ideal, that can be realized as initial of the Plücker ideal, hence a toric degeneration for the flag variety.  相似文献

We study the normalization of a monomial ideal, and show how to compute its Hilbert function (using Ehrhart polynomials) if the ideal is zero dimensional. A positive lower bound for the second coefficient of the Hilbert polynomial is shown.

A closed formula for computing the regularity of the lex-segment ideal in terms of the Hilbert function is given. This regularity bounds the one of any ideal with the same Hilbert function. As a consequence, we give explicit expressions to bound the regularity of a projective scheme in terms of the coefficients of the Hilbert polynomial.

We also characterize, in terms of their coefficients, which polynomials are Hilbert polynomials of some projective scheme.

Finally, we provide some applications to estimates for the maximal degree of generators of Gröbner bases in terms of the degrees of defining equations.

We study generic toric rings. We prove that they are Golod rings, so the Poincaré series of the residue field is rational. We classify when such a ring is Koszul, and compute its rate. Also resolutions related to the initial ideal of the toric ideal with respect to reverse lexicographic order are described. Received August 13, 1997; in final form October 23, 1998  相似文献

We consider the problem of finding an ideal whose blowup defines the Nash blowup of a toric surface and such that its zero locus coincides with the singular set of the toric surface.  相似文献

In singularity theory or algebraic geometry, it is natural to investigate possible Hilbert functions for special algebras A such as local complete intersections or more generally Gorenstein algebras. The sequences that occur as the Hilbert functions of standard graded complete intersections are well understood classically thanks to Macaulay and Stanley. Very little is known in the local case except in codimension two. In this paper we characterise the Hilbert functions of quadratic Artinian complete intersections of codimension three. Interestingly we prove that a Hilbert function is admissible for such a Gorenstein ring if and only if is admissible for such a complete intersection. We provide an effective construction of a local complete intersection for a given Hilbert function. We prove that the symmetric decomposition of such a complete intersection ideal is determined by its Hilbert function.  相似文献

We show that the number of rational points of a subgroup inside a toric variety over a finite field defined by a homogeneous lattice ideal can be computed via Smith normal form of the matrix whose columns constitute a basis of the lattice. This generalizes and yields a concise toric geometric proof of the same fact proven purely algebraically by Lopez and Villarreal for the case of a projective space and a standard homogeneous lattice ideal of dimension one. We also prove a Nullstellensatz type theorem over a finite field establishing a one to one correspondence between subgroups of the dense split torus and certain homogeneous lattice ideals. As application, we compute the main parameters of generalized toric codes on subgroups of the torus of Hirzebruch surfaces, generalizing the existing literature.  相似文献

Describing minimal generating sets of toric ideals is a well-studied and difficult problem. Neil White conjectured in 1980 that the toric ideal associated to a matroid is generated by quadrics corresponding to single element symmetric exchanges. We give a combinatorial proof of White’s conjecture for graphic matroids.  相似文献

We introduce toric complexes as polyhedral complexes consisting of rational cones together with a set of integral generators for each cone, and we define their associated face rings. Abstract simplicial complexes and rational fans can be considered as toric complexes, and the face ring for toric complexes extends Stanley and Reisner’s face ring for abstract simplicial complexes [20] and Stanley’s face ring for rational fans [21]. Given a toric complex with defining ideal I for the face ring we give a geometrical interpretation of the initial ideals of I with respect to weight orders in terms of subdivisions of the toric complex generalizing a theorem of Sturmfels in [23]. We apply our results to study edgewise subdivisions of abstract simplicial complexes.  相似文献

We study the family of graphs whose number of primitive cycles equals its cycle rank. It is shown that this family is precisely the family of ring graphs. Then we study the complete intersection property of toric ideals of bipartite graphs and oriented graphs. An interesting application is that complete intersection toric ideals of bipartite graphs correspond to ring graphs and that these ideals are minimally generated by Gröbner bases. We prove that any graph can be oriented such that its toric ideal is a complete intersection with a universal Gröbner basis determined by the cycles. It turns out that bipartite ring graphs are exactly the bipartite graphs that have complete intersection toric ideals for any orientation.  相似文献

Every normal toric ideal of codimension two is minimally generated by a Gröbner basis with squarefree initial monomials. A polynomial time algorithm is presented for checking whether a toric ideal of fixed codimension is normal.  相似文献

We study the Hilbert function of the powers of homogeneous ideals which are either Cohen-Macaulay of codimension 2 or Gorenstein of codimension 3. We show that that if I is an ideal in one of these classes and it is of linear type then for all k the Hilbert function of depends only on the Hilbert function of I. In other words, if I andJ are ideals in one of the above mentioned classes which are both of linear type and they have the same Hilbert function then also and have the same Hilbert function for all k. We propose a perturbation method for determining the (largest) group of invariance of a toric ideal defined in [S. Aoki, A. Takemura, The largest group of invariance for Markov bases and toric ideals, J. Symbolic Comput. 43 (5) (2008) 342–358]. In the perturbation method, we investigate how a generic element in the row space of the configuration defining a toric ideal is mapped by a permutation of the indeterminates. Compared to the proof by Aoki and Takemura which was based on stabilizers of a subset of indeterminates, the perturbation method gives a much simpler proof of the group of invariance. In particular, we determine the group of invariance for a general hierarchical model of contingency tables in statistics, under the assumption that the numbers of the levels of the factors are generic. We prove that it is a wreath product indexed by a poset related to the intersection poset of the maximal interaction effects of the model.  相似文献

In this article, we study some algebraic and combinatorial behaviors of expansion functor. We show that on monomial ideals some properties like polymatroidalness, weakly polymatroidalness, and having linear quotients are preserved under taking the expansion functor.

The main part of the article is devoted to study of toric ideals associated to the expansion of subsets of monomials which are minimal with respect to divisibility. It is shown that, for a given discrete polymatroid P, if toric ideal of P is generated by double swaps, then toric ideal of any expansion of P has such a property. This result, in a special case, says that White's conjecture is preserved under taking the expansion functor. Finally, the construction of Gröbner bases and some homological properties of toric ideals associated to expansions of subsets of monomials is investigated.  相似文献

Demailly, Ein and Lazarsfeld proved the subadditivity theorem for multiplier ideals on nonsingular varieties, which states the multiplier ideal of the product of ideals is contained in the product of the individual multiplier ideals. We prove that, in the two-dimensional case, the subadditivity theorem holds on log terminal singularities. However, in the higher dimensional case, we have several counterexamples. We consider the subadditivity theorem for monomial ideals on toric rings and construct a counterexample on a three-dimensional toric ring.
