The general properties of charge‐carrier transport in disordered organic materials are discussed. The spatial correlation between energies of transport sites determined the form of drift‐mobility field dependence. The type of spatial correlation in a disordered material depends on its nature. Mobility field dependences must be different in polar and nonpolar materials. Different methods of mobility calculation from the shape of photocurrent transient were analyzed. A widely used method is very sensitive to the variation of the shape of the transient and sometimes produces results that effectively masquerade the true dependence of the mobility on the electric field or trap concentration. Arguments in favor of the better, more reliable method are suggested. Charge transport in materials containing charged traps was considered without using the isolated trap approximation, and this led to qualitatively different results. The results indicated that the effect of charged traps can hardly be responsible for the experimentally observed transport properties of disordered organic materials. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The high sensitivity of the thermally stimulated current, thermal sampling (TS) method is emphasized in a study of the breadth of the glass transition in several liquid-crystalline polymers (LCPs). Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was performed on all samples to further quantify the glass transition regions. For “random” copolyester LCPs with widely varying degrees of crystallinity, including highly amorphous samples, very broad glass tran-sition regions were observed. One semicrystalline alternating copolyester and a series of semicrystalline azomethine LCPs were studied as examples of structurally regular polymers. These exhibited relatively sharp glass transitions more comparable to ordinary isotropic amorphous or semicrystalline polymers. The broad glass transitions in the random copolyesters are attributed to structural heterogeneity of the chains. In one example of a moderate-crystallinity random copolyester LCP (Vectra), glass transitions ranging up to ca. 150°C in breadth were determined by the thermal sampling (TS) method and DSC. In other lower crystallinity copolyester LCPs, the main glass transition temperature as determined by DSC was comparable to that determined by TSC although cooperative relaxations of a minor fraction of the overall relaxing species were detected well below the main Tg, by the TS method and not by DSC. Rapid quenches from the isotropic melt to an isotropic glass were possible with one LCP. The anisotropic and isotropic glassy states for this LCP were found to have the same breadth of the glass transition as was determined by the TS method, although TSC and DSC show that Tg is shifted downward by ca. 15°C in the anisotropic glass as compared to the isotropic glass. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 相似文献

Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) is notable for its use as power cable insulation. Its longevity is limited by space charge buildup linked to impurities such as the byproducts left behind by the cross-linking agent dicumyl peroxide (DCP). The goal of this work is to determine the impacts of these byproducts on charge trapping and detrapping in XLPE using the thermally stimulated depolarization current technique. XLPE with byproducts has one source of trapped charge, which originates from the byproducts. XLPE that was thermally treated via degassing exhibits two other sources of trapped charge, which are charge injection and dipolar relaxations. Oxidation from degassing was shown to control the trapping from these sources, which is useful knowledge for processing this material prior to its use. Reintroducing acetophenone, one of the major byproducts of DCP, suppresses those two peaks once more, showing that it controls the overall space charge buildup characteristics in XLPE. 相似文献

A new analytical model is proposed to describe the kinetics of trapping and recombination of charge carriers in complex systems with an arbitrary spatial distribution of traps and recombination centres. The structural properties of a material are described by two functions Γm and Γn irrespective of the thermal history of the sample. The structurally ordered polymer, triphenylamine‐pendant polypeptide (PATPA: poly[γ‐4‐(N,N‐diphenylamino‐phenyl)‐L ‐glutamine]), was prepared in order to obtain high hole mobility and high thermal stability. The hole mobility obtained for PATPA (ca. 10−5 cm2/Vsec) at room temperature is higher than that for poly(N‐vinylcarbazole) (PVK) (ca. 10−7 cm2/Vsec) or that of carbazole‐pendant polypeptide (PCLG) (ca. 10−8 cm2/Vsec). These results are supported by thermally stimulated current (TSC) measurements because the TSC can be correlated with the mobility. The glass‐transition temperature (Tg) of PATPA was estimated to be about 130° by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). From these results, PATPA is an alternative candidate as a photoconductive polymer with high thermal stability and high hole mobility. A model for simulating the charge transport properties of semicrystalline polymer (SCrP) using Monte Carlo simulation is reinvented. The model is validated by reproducing the experimentally observed field and temperature dependence of mobility in Poly(3‐hexylthiophene‐2,5‐diyl) (P3HT) thin films. This study also provides a new physical insight to the origin of much debated negative field dependence of mobility (NFDM) observed at low electric field strengths in P3HT thin films. The observed NFDM, which is not explainable with the mechanisms proposed earlier, is attributed to the weak dependence of transit time on the applied electric field strengths. In the semicrystalline films, the charge transport takes place mostly through the crystalline regions, in which the charge transport is weakly dependent on the strength of the applied electric field. In addition, a possible explanation for the origin of Arrhenius temperature dependence of mobility (lnμ ∝ 1/T) commonly observed in SCrP thin films is also proposed. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. The method for analyzing the reshuffling of polymer segments developed previously has been extended to systems involving the disproportionation of chain functionalities. The effect of interchain exchange reactions of this type, leading to the redistribution of chain lengths and of the chain functionalities (redistribution of living and dead chain ends), was analyzed by means of the Monte Carlo simulations. In the systems, in which no propagation occurs (monomer concentration equal to zero), a set of polymer chains containing one living and one dead end was taken as an initial material. A series of simulations were performed for systems with differing molecular weight distributions of the starting macromolecules. Uniform (no chain length distribution polymer – all chains are of the same length), Poisson, and the most probable (geometric) distributions were taken into consideration. Although the molecular weight distributions (MWDs) of functionally different chains of the same polymer were different apart from the eventual equilibrium conditions, the overall MWD was very close to that observed in analogous systems without disproportionation. The same was observed concerning MWDs in modeled polymerization systems, in which reshuffling and disproportionation accompanied propagation. Consequently, a method of estimating the ratio of rate constants of propagation and reshuffling (i. e. kp /k tr) in the relevant polymerization systems, using the observed polydispersity indexes, was proposed. The extent of disproportionation can be evaluated from the determined relationships of the polydispersity index and of the monofunctional chains fraction as functions of the average number of chain transformations. 相似文献

We describe a new equilibration procedure for the atomic level simulation of a hydrated lipid bilayer. The procedure consists of alternating molecular dynamics trajectory calculations in a constant surface tension and temperature ensemble with configurational bias Monte Carlo moves to different regions of the configuration space of the bilayer, in a constant volume and temperature ensemble. The procedure is described in detail and is applied to a bilayer of 100 molecules of dipalmitoyl phosphatidylcholine (DPPC) and 3205 water molecules. We find that the hybrid simulation procedure enhances the equilibration of the bilayer as measured by the convergence of the area per molecule and the segmental order parameters, as compared with a simulation using only molecular dynamics (MD). Progress toward equilibration is almost three times as fast in CPU time, compared with a purely MD simulation. Equilibration is complete, as judged by the lack of energy drift in three separate 200-ps runs of continuous MD started from different initial states. Starting from the active region of a weakly ionized plasma the spatial transition of the electron gas through an adjacent field decay region into the field-free remote plasma is studied in neon on a rigorous basis by using two independent kinetic approaches. The main objective of the analysis concerns the complex features of the electron gas in its transition process from a field-driven active plasma to a purely diffusion-driven remote plasma. In addition to the energy resolved characterization of the velocity distribution, in particular, the spatial decay behavior of important, energy space averaged transport and dissipation properties of the electrons, as the density, the particle and energy fluxes and the power transfer rates to the gas particles in electron collisions, is elaborated and interpreted. Moreover, the influence of a variation of the active plasma conditions and of the spread of the field decay region on the resultant transition behavior of the electron gas is evaluated. A particular finding is that the spatial field decay is generally accompanied by a large density increase in order to allow the continuation of the electron flux by a pure diffusion process in the adjacent remote plasma. This finding could be completely confirmed by the almost perfect coincidence of corresponding results obtained by two independent kinetic approaches. 相似文献
