Let M^n be a closed spacelike submanifold isometrically immersed in de Sitter space Sp^(n p)(c), Denote by R,H and S the normalized scalar curvature, the mean curvature and the square of the length of the second fundamental form of M^n ,respectively. Suppose R is constant and R≤c. The pinching problem on S is studied and a rigidity theorem for M^n immersed in Sp^(n p)(c) with parallel normalized mean curvature vector field is proved. When n≥3, the pinching constant is the best. Thus, the mistake of the paper “Space-like hypersurfaces in de Sitter space with constant scalar curvature”(see Manus Math, 1998,95 :499-505) is corrected. Moreover, the reduction of the codimension when M^n is a complete submanifold in Sp^(n p)(c) with parallel normalized mean curvature vector field is investigated.  相似文献

Let Sn(c) denote the n-dimensional Euclidean sphere of constant sectional curvature c and denote by CPn(c) the complex projective space of complex dimension n and of holomorphic sectional curvature c. In this paper, we obtain some characterizations of the manifolds S2(c) × S2(c′), S4(c) × S4(c′), CP2(c) × CP2(c′) by their spectrum.  相似文献

In this paper, we shall give an integral equality by applying the operator □ introduced by S.Y. Cheng and S.T. Yau [7] to compact spacelike hypersurfaces which are immersed in de Sitter spaceS 1 n+1 (c) and have constant scalar curvature. By making use of this integral equality, we show that such a hypersurface with constant scalar curvaturen(n−1)r is isometric to a sphere ifr<c. Let (M, g) be an n-dimensional compact and connected Riemannian manifold of constant scalar curvature. If the sectional curvatures of M are bounded below by a constant α > 0, and the Ricci curvature satisfies Ric < (n − 1)αδ, δ ≥ 1, then it is shown that either M is isometric to the n-sphere Sn(α) or else each nonzero eigenvalue λ of the Laplacian acting on the smooth functions of M satisfies the following:

We control the number of critical points of a height function arising from the Nash isometric embedding of a compact Riemanniann-manifoldM. The Ln/2 curvature norm ∥R∥ and a similar scalar ∥R∥ are introduced and their integralR(M) andR(M) overM. We prove thatR(M) is bounded below by a constant depending only onn and the Betti numbers ofM. Thus a new sphere theorem is proved by eliminating allith Betti numbers fori = 1, .…n −1. The emphasis is that our sphere theorem imposes no restriction on the range of curvature. Research partially supported by Grant-in-Aid for General Scientific Research, grant no. 07454018.  相似文献

It is well known that critical points of the total scalar curvature functional ? on the space of all smooth Riemannian structures of volume 1 on a compact manifold M are exactly the Einstein metrics. When the domain of ? is restricted to the space of constant scalar curvature metrics, there has been a conjecture that a critical point is also Einstein or isometric to a standard sphere. In this paper we prove that n-dimensional critical points have vanishing n− 1 homology under a lower Ricci curvature bound for dimension less than 8. Received: 12 July 1999  相似文献

In this short note we consider an n-dimensional compact Riemannian manifold (M, g) of constant scalar curvature S = n(n − 1)c and show that the presence of a nontrivial conformal vector field ξ on M forces S to be positive. Then we show that an appropriate control on the energy of ξ makes M to be isometric to the n-sphere S n (c).  相似文献

Consider a compact Riemannian manifold (M, g) with metric g and dimension n ≥ 3. The Schouten tensor A g associated with g is a symmetric (0, 2)-tensor field describing the non-conformally-invariant part of the curvature tensor of g. In this paper, we consider the elementary symmetric functions {σ k (A g ), 1 ≤ kn} of the eigenvalues of A g with respect to g; we call σ k (A g ) the k-th Schouten curvature function. We give an isometric classification for compact locally conformally flat manifolds which satisfy the conditions: A g is semi-positive definite and σ k (A g ) is a nonzero constant for some k ∈ {2, ... , n}. If k = 2, we obtain a classification result under the weaker conditions that σ2(A g ) is a non-negative constant and (M n , g) has nonnegative Ricci curvature. The corresponding result for the case k = 1 is well known. We also give an isometric classification for complete locally conformally flat manifolds with constant scalar curvature and non-negative Ricci curvature. In this work we generalize the case of scalar curvature zero the results of Simmons (Ann. Math. 88 (1968), 62–105) for minimal cones in Rn+1. If Mn−1 is a compact hypersurface of the sphere Sn(1) we represent by C(M)ε the truncated cone based on M with center at the origin. It is easy to see that M has zero scalar curvature if and only if the cone base on M also has zero scalar curvature. Hounie and Leite (J. Differential Geom. 41 (1995), 247–258) recently gave the conditions for the ellipticity of the partial differential equation of the scalar curvature. To show that, we have to assume n ⩾ 4 and the three-curvature of M to be different from zero. For such cones, we prove that, for nslant 7 there is an ε for which the truncate cone C(M)ε is not stable. We also show that for n ⩾ 8 there exist compact, orientable hypersurfaces Mn−1 of the sphere with zero scalar curvature and S3 different from zero, for which all truncated cones based on M are stable. An Einstein metric with positive scalar curvature on a 4-manifold is said to be normalized if Ric=1. A basic problem in Riemannian geometry is to classify Einstein 4-manifolds with positive sectional curvature in the category of either topology, diffeomorphism, or isometry. It is shown in this paper that if the sectional curvature K of a normalized Einstein 4-manifold M satisfies the lower bound K≥ε0, ε0≡(-23)/120≈0.102843, or condition (b) of Theorem 1.1, then it is isometric to either S 4, RP 4 with constant sectional curvature K=1/3, or CP 2 with the normalized Fubini-Study metric. As a consequence, both the normalized moduli spaces of Einstein metrics which satisfy either one of the above two conditions on S 4 and CP 2 contain only a single point. In particular, if M is a smooth 4-manifold which is homeomorphic to either S 4, RP 4, or CP 2 but not diffeomorphic to any of the three manifolds, then it can not support any normalized Einstein metric which satisfies either one of the conditions. Let x:M→ be an isometric immersion of a hypersurface M into an (n+1)-dimensional Riemannian manifold and let ρ i  (i∈{1,...,n}) be the principal curvatures of M. We denote by E and P the distinguished vector field and the curvature vector field of M, respectively, in the sense of [8].?If M is structured by a P-parallel connection [7], then it is Einsteinian. In this case, all the curvature 2-forms are exact and other properties induced by E and P are stated.?The principal curvatures ρ i are isoparametric functions and the set (ρ1,...,ρ n ) defines an isoparametric system [10].?In the last section, we assume that, in addition, M is endowed with an almost symplectic structure. Then, the dual 1-form π=P of P is symplectic harmonic. If M is compact, then its 2nd Betti number b 2≥1. Let M be a compact n-dimensional Riemannian orbifold of Ricci curvature ≥n−1. We prove that for 1 ≤kn, the k th nonzero eigenvalue of the Laplacian on M is equal to the dimension n if and only if M is isometric to the k-times spherical suspension over the quotient S n k }Γ of the unit (nk)-sphere by a finite group Γ⊂O(nk+1) acting isometrically on S n k ⊂ℝ n k +. We prove the double bubble conjecture in the three-sphereS 3 and hyperbolic three-spaceH 3 in the cases where we can apply Hutchings theory:
–  • InS 3, when each enclosed volume and the complement occupy at least 10% of the volume ofS 3.
–  • inH 3, when the smaller volume is at least 85% that of the larger.
A balancing argument and asymptotic analysis reduce the problem inS 3 andH 3 to some computer checking. The computer analysis has been designed and fully implemented for both spaces.  相似文献

Let Mn be a complete hypersurface in Sn+1(1) with constant mean curvature. Assume that Mn has n−1 principal curvatures with the same sign everywhere. We prove that if RicMC(H), either S?S+(H) or RicM?0 or the fundamental group of Mn is infinite, then S is constant, S=S+(H) and Mn is isometric to a Clifford torus with . These rigidity theorems are still valid for compact hypersurface without constancy condition on the mean curvature.  相似文献

Let M be an n-dimensional compact Riemannian manifold with or without boundary, and its Ricci curvature RicM≥n- 1. The paper obtains an inequality for the first eigenvalue η1 of M with mixed boundary condition, which is a generalization of the results of Lichnerowicz,Reilly, Escobar and Xia. It is also proved that η1≥ n for certain n-dimensional compact Riemannian manifolds with boundary, which is an extension of the work of Cheng,Li and Yau.  相似文献

Let M be a Riemannian m-dimensional manifold with m ≥ 3, endowed with non zero parallel p-form. We prove that there is no minimal isometric immersions of M in a Riemannian manifold N with constant strictly negative sectional curvature. Next we show that, under the conform flatness of the manifold N and some assumptions on the Ricci curvature of N, there is no α-pluriharmonic isometric immersion.  相似文献

We show that every compact Einstein Hermitian surface with constant *–scalar curvature is a K?hler surface. In contrast to the 4-dimensional case, it is shown that there exists a compact Einstein Hermitian (4n + 2)-dimensional manifold with constant *–scalar curvature which is not K?hler. In this paper, we are interested in extending the study of spherical curves in R 3 to the submanifolds in the Euclidean space R n+p . More precisely, we are interested in obtaining conditions under which an n-dimensional compact submanifold M of a Euclidean space R n+p lies on the hypersphere S n+p−1(c) (standardly imbedded sphere in R n+p of constant curvature c). As a by-product we also get an estimate on the first nonzero eigenvalue of the Laplacian operator Δ of the submanifold (cf. Theorem 3.5) as well as a characterization for an n-dimensional sphere S n (c) (cf. Theorem 4.1).  相似文献
