54Mn NMRON in the mixed halide antiferromagnet, Mn(Br X Cl1−X )2 · 4H2O, for varying external field, is reported. Significant qualitative differences are found between these NMRON transitions and those of the two terminal compounds, especially in respect to line widths. A tentative assignment is made to most of the observed NMRON transitions out to 0.8 T. An unidentified lower frequency inhomogeneous signal, present only at the lowest temperatures, with no counterpart in the terminal compounds, is also reported.  相似文献

We investigate Einstein theories of gravity, coupled to a scalar field j{\varphi} and point-like matter, which are characterized by a scalar field-dependent matter coupling function eH(j){e^{H(\varphi)}} . We show that under mild constraints on the form of the potential for the scalar field, there are a broad class of Einstein-like gravity models—characterized by the asymptotic behavior of H—which allow for a non-Newtonian weak-field limit with the gravitational potential behaving for large distances as ln r. The Newtonian term GM/r appears only as sub-leading. We point out that this behavior is also shared by gravity models described by f (R) Lagrangians. The relevance of our results for the building of infrared modified theories of gravity and for modified Newtonian dynamics is also discussed.  相似文献

The evaluation of the total force of magnetic origin acting upon a body in a stationary magnetic field is often carried out using the so-called magnetic energy (or co-energy) method, which is based on the derivation of the magnetic energy (or co-energy) with respect to a virtual rigid displacement of the considered body. The application of this method is usually justified by resorting to the energy conservation principle, written in terms both of electrical and of mechanical quantities. In this paper we shall re-examine the whole matter in the context of classical thermodynamics, in order to obtain a more comprehensive and general proof of the validity of the energy (or co-energy) approach and to point out its limitations. Two typical configurations will be discussed; in the first one, the field sources are represented by conducting bodies carrying free currents, whereas in the second one a permanent magnet creates the driving field. All magnetic materials are assumed to be non-hysteretic and permanent magnets are represented by means of the well-known linear model in the second quadrant of the (B,H) plane. From the vector bundle-like standpoint, the Finslerian gravitational field is regarded as the total space of the vector bundle whose fibre is the internal (y)-field spanned by vectors {y} (i.e., the so-called internal space spanned by {y}) and whose base is the external (x)-field spanned by points {x} (i.e., the Einstein's gravitational field). Along this line, in this paper, different from a previous paper [1], the so-called mapping process of the (y)-field on the (x)-field is not taken into account and following Miron's method [2, 3], the Finslerian field equations will be derived from the Einstein's field equation for the total space. Some physical considerations will be made on those field equations.  相似文献

An experimental study is reported of the influence of temperature (T), electric field polarity (±E), as well as of changes in the electrode/insulator/superconductor (E/I/S) measuring system on the field effect in the ceramic (BiPb)2Sr2Ca2Cu3Ox. It has been established that at 77 K and for E⩾60 MV/m the critical current I c and conductivity of the sample increase for I>I c, irrespective of the field polarity. For lower fields and a negative electrode potential the conductivity in an electric field may decrease. The field effect decreases with increasing temperature, to practically vanish near T c where the sample is still in superconducting state. Experiments carried out with more complex systems E/I/M/I/S and E/I/M/S (M stands for a metallic foil) support the conclusion that it is the external electric field that is responsible for the observed effects. A field model for a quark and an antiquark binding is described. Quarks interact via a gauge unparticle (“ungluon”). The model is formulated in terms of Lagrangian which features the source field S(x) which becomes a local pseudo-Goldstone field of conformal symmetry — the pseudodilaton mode and from which the gauge non-primary unparticle field is derived by B μ(x) ∼ ∂μ S(x). Because the conformal sector is strongly coupled, the mode S(x) may be one of new states accessible at high energies. We have carried out an analysis of the important quantity that enters in the “ungluon” exchange pattern — the “ungluon” propagator.  相似文献

The vacuum polarization is calculated for a massive gauge field according to the methods of source theory. The spectral integral turns out to be convergent and the numerical coefficient, which is (1/3)(e2/4π2) in spinor electrodynamics, is here (3f/16)(g2/4π2) where f depends on the group and f = 1 for SU(2).

Continuing the last paper [1], more detailed considerations are made on the spatial structure of the Finslerian gravitational field: firstly, a unified field between the external (x)-field and the internal (y)-field is constructed from a vector bundle-like standpoint, where the intrinsic behavior (i.e., δy) of the internal vector variable y is taken into account; secondly, the connection structure and the metrical structure are determined by setting the base and dual base properly in the unified field; thirdly, a compactification process of the internal field (i.e., a mapping process of the (y)-field on the (x)-field) is considered in order to realize a four-dimensional Finslerian structure.  相似文献

A quantum Monte Carlo study of the anisotropic antiferromagnet with four-spin interaction (K) and with spin S=1/2 on a square lattice is reported. Temperature dependences of the capacity, susceptibility, spin correlation functions, and correlation length, and field dependences of magnetization are calculated. Phase diagrams of the ground-state antiferromagnet and gap (K>0) and gapless (K<0) quantum spin liquids are determined in the exchange-anisotropy-four-spin-coupling-constant (K), magnetic-field (H)-temperature (T), and temperature-(T)-K planes for an exchange anisotropy of 0.1 J. A canonical formalism of the dynamics of interacting spherically symmetric Yang-Mills and gravitational fields is presented. The work is based on Dirac's technique for constrained hamiltonian systems. The gauge freedom of the Yang-Mills field is treated in the same footing with the coordinate transformation freedom of the gravitational field. In particular, the fixation of coordinates and the fixation of the internal gauge are achieved by totally similar techniques. Two classes of spherically symmetric motions are considered: (i) the class for which the Yang-Mills potentials themselves are spherically symmetric (“manifest spherical symmetry”). In this case the results are valid for an arbitrary gauge group; and (ii) the class for which, in the SO(3) gauge group, a rotation in physical space is compensated by a rotation of equal magnitude but opposite direction in isospin space (“spherical symmetry up to a gauge transformation”). For manifest spherical symmetry the problem amounts to effectively dealing with an abelian gauge group and the most general solution of the field equations turns out to be the Reissner-Nordström metric with a Coulomb field. For spherical symmetry up to a gauge transformation the problem is more interesting. the formalism contains then, besides the gravitational variables, three pairs of functions of the radial coordinate that describe the degrees of freedom of the Yang-Mills field. Two pairs of these functions can be combined into a complex field ψ and its conjugate. The hamiltonian is then invariant under r-dependent rotations in the complex ψ-plane. The third degree of freedom plays the role of a compensating field associated with this invariance under localized U(l) rotations. The compensating field can always be brought to zero by a gauge transformation. After this is done the gauge is completely fixed but the problem remains invariant under position independent rotations in the ψ plane. Static solutions of the field equations in this gauge are of the form ψ(r) = (r) exp (iΘ) with Θ independent of position. The particular case Θ = 0 corresponds to the Wu-Yang ansatz. A nontrivial static solution can be found in closed form. The Yang-Mills field is of the generalized Wu-Yang type with an extra electric term, and the metric is the Reissner-Nordström one. It is pointed out that a Higgs field can be easily introduced in the formalism. The addition of the Higgs field does not destroy the invariance of the Hamiltonian under r-dependent rotations in the ψ-plane. The conserved quantity associated with the invariance under ψ → exp (i(const))ψ coincides with the electric charge as defined by 't Hooft in a more general context.  相似文献

In this paper, continued from the last paper (Ikeda, 1974), two kinds of structurological generalizations of our nonlocal field (i.e., the (x, ψ) field) are considered physicogeometrically. One is a Finslerian generalization, where the base field [i.e., the (x) field] is extended to a Finslerian field and Weyl's gauge field (i.e., the electromagnetic potential) is physically identified with the directional vector adopted as the internal variable in the ordinary nonlocal field theory. Another is a generalization by which the spinor (ψ) itself is taken as an independent variable, where some inherent characteristics ofψ are fused into the spatial structure. The latter is regarded as a “nonlocalization” of the (x) field accomplished by attachingψ to each point, in the true sense of the word. Particularly, the spatial structures of these generalized nonlocal fields are described in detail.  相似文献

Belavin, Zamlodochikov and Polyakov have recently proposed a class of conformally invariant field theories in two dimension with exactly determined rational critical indices. We establish a tentative identification of a subset of these theories in terms of the O(n) model and theq-state Potts model in 2-dimensions for appropriaten andq. The results of this work were reported in the conference on “Structural Similarities in Exactly Solved Models” at I.T.P. Santa Barbara, August 1984.  相似文献

The generation of harmonics in a laser ablated YBCO film deposited on a 〈100〉 MgO substrate is reported. Higher odd harmonics appeared when the film was subjected to an ac field. The presence of a dc field induces only the second harmonic with a small value of slope ofV 2H dc curve (δV 2/δH dc) compared to bulk YBCO. The variation of the amplitude of third harmonic (V 3) withH ac and temperature was studied. These results are explained in terms of a critical state model. The observation of only a small amplitude of second harmonic (V 2) with a smallδV 2/δH dc is explained in terms of a special kind of clean grain boundary present in YBCO laser ablated films on 〈100〉 MgO.  相似文献

We report simultaneous measurements of shear viscosity (η) and dielectric constant (ε) of octyloxy cyanobiphenyl (8OCB) in the nematic (N) and smectic-A (SmA) phases as functions of temperature and electric field. With increasing electric field η increases in the N phase whereas it decreases in the SmA phase and saturates beyond a particular field in both the phases. The flow curves in the intermediate-field range show two Newtonian regimes in the N phase. The temperature-dependent behavior of η and ε at zero or at small electric field suggests the occurrence of several structures that results from precessional motion of the director along the neutral direction as reported in similar other system. We show that the precessional motions are gradually suppressed with increasing electric field and the effective viscosity resembles with the Miesowicz viscosity η 1 at high enough electric field. In the intermediate field range the temperature-dependent η exhibits anomalous behavior across the N-SmA phase transition which is attributed to the large contribution of Leslie coefficient α 1.  相似文献

The emphasis of this review is both the geometric realization of the 2-point velocity correlation tensor field Bij (x,x′,t) and isometries of the correlation space K3 equipped with a (pseudo-) Riemannian metrics ds2(t) generated by the tensor field. The special form of this tensor field for homogeneous isotropic turbulence specifies ds2(t) as the semi-reducible pseudo-Riemannian metric. This construction presents the template for the application of methods of Riemannian geometry in turbulence to observe, in particular, the deformation of length scales of turbulent motion localized within a singled out fluid volume of the flow in time. This also allows to use common concepts and technics of Lagrangian mechanics for a Lagrangian system (Mt, ds2(t)), Mt ? K3. Here the metric ds2(t), whose components are the correlation functions, evolves due to the von Kármán-Howarth equation. We review the explicit geometric realization of ds2(t) in K3 and present symmetries (or isometric motions in K3) of the metric ds2(t) which coincide with the sliding deformation of a surface arising under the geometric realization of ds2(t). We expose the fine structure of a Lie algebra associated with this symmetry transformation and construct the basis of differential invariants. Minimal generating set of differential invariants is derived. We demonstrate that the well-known Taylor microscale λg is a second-order differential invariant and show how λg can be obtained by the minimal generating set of differential invariants and the operators of invariant differentiation. Finally, we establish that there exists a nontrivial central extension of the infinite-dimensional Lie algebra constructed wherein the central charge is defined by the same bilinear skew-symmetric form c as for the Witt algebra which measures the number of internal degrees of freedom of the system. For turbulence, we give the asymptotic expansion of the transversal correlation function for the geometry generated by a quadratic form.  相似文献

The existence of a remanent magnetization (M rem) on switching off the field of a field cooled (FC) sample of a highT c superconductor is often reported. It has recently been argued thatM rem should equal the difference in FC and zero field cooled (ZFC) magnetizations (M FCM ZFC) in hard superconductors and this has been demonstrated to hold in single crystals of YBCO at 4.2K over a limited range ofH values. We report the detailed magnetization measurements under various thermomagnetic histories (of whichM rem is one special case) on two specimens of Nb, which show different extents of flux trapping. We find that there are in general three regions inH, T space, corresponding toM rem+M ZFCM FC=0,M rem<(M FCM ZFC) andM rem>(M FCM ZFC). At anyT, the equality holds forH<H c1(T), and forHH c2 (M FCM ZFC) asymptotically vanishes and thereM rem>(M FCM ZFC). We show that there exists an intermediate region in all hard superconductors, whereM rem<(M FCM ZFC). The range over which this situation persists, however, depends on the degree of irreversibility in a sample. We can explain qualitatively all the history dependent magnetization data in terms of the critical state model. We point out an inconsistency in an earlier analysis to determineH c1(T) from such data in YBCO. We also propose a new criterion for putting limits onH c1(T) in hard superconductors.

ABSTRACT

A study of the effects of ageing history on the electrical properties of lead-free ferroelectric ceramics of (K0.5Na0.5)(Nb1?xSbx)O3 + 0.5 mol% MnO2 and (K0.5Na0.5)(Nb1?xTax)O3 + 0.5 mol%MnO2 for x = 0.05 is reported. The samples after storage at a constant temperature have been subject to infra-low-frequency electric field and radiation. Differences of the photoelectric response between the two examined compounds were found and the restoration of polarisation in the aged ceramic materials by cycles of applied field is discussed.  相似文献
