We present a class of high‐order weighted essentially nonoscillatory (WENO) reconstructions based on relaxation approximation of hyperbolic systems of conservation laws. The main advantage of combining the WENO schemes with relaxation approximation is the fact that the presented schemes avoid solution of the Riemann problems due to the relaxation approach and high‐resolution is obtained by applying the WENO approach. The emphasis is on a fifth‐order scheme and its performance for solving a wide class of systems of conservation laws. To show the effectiveness of these methods, we present numerical results for different test problems on multidimensional hyperbolic systems of conservation laws. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We study a class of weak solutions to hyperbolic systems of conservation (balance) laws in one space dimension, called stratified solutions. These solutions are bounded and ``regular' in the direction of a linearly degenerate characteristic field of the system, but not in other directions. In particular, they are not required to have finite total variation. We prove some results of local existence and uniqueness.

A classic strategy to obtain high‐quality discretizations of hyperbolic partial differential equations is to use flux limiter (FL) functions for blending two types of approximations: a monotone first‐order scheme that deals with discontinuous solution features and a higher order method for approximating smooth solution parts. In this article, we study a new approach to FL methods. Relying on a classification of input data with respect to smoothness, we associate specific basis functions with the individual smoothness notions. Then, we construct a limiter as a linear combination of the members of parameter‐dependent families of basis functions, and we explore the possibility to optimize the parameters in interesting model situations to find a corresponding optimal limiter. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This work is a continuation of our previous work, in the present paper we study the mixed initial-boundary value problem for general n×n quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws with non-linear boundary conditions in the half space . Under the assumption that each characteristic with positive velocity is linearly degenerate, we prove the existence and uniqueness of global weakly discontinuous solution u=u(t,x) with small amplitude, and this solution possesses a global structure similar to that of the self-similar solution of the corresponding Riemann problem. Some applications to quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws arising in physics and other disciplines, particularly to the system describing the motion of the relativistic string in Minkowski space R1+n, are also given.  相似文献

We extend the multiscale finite element viscosity method for hyperbolic conservation laws developed in terms of hierarchical finite element bases to a (pre‐orthogonal spline‐)wavelet basis. Depending on an appropriate error criterion, the multiscale framework allows for a controlled adaptive resolution of discontinuities of the solution. In this paper, we study conservation laws for some third-order systems of pdes, viz., some versions of the Boussinesq equations and the BBM equation. It is shown that new and interesting conserved quantities arise from ‘multipliers’ that are of order greater than one in derivatives of the dependent variables. Furthermore, the invariance properties of the conserved flows with respect to the Lie point symmetry generators are investigated via the symmetry action on the multipliers.  相似文献

This work is a continuation of our previous work [Z.-Q. Shao, D.-X. Kong, Y.-C. Li, Shock reflection for general quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws, Nonlinear Anal. TMA 66 (1) (2007) 93-124]. In this paper, we study the global structure instability of the Riemann solution containing shocks, at least one rarefaction wave for general n×n quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws in the presence of a boundary. We prove the nonexistence of global piecewise C1 solution to a class of the mixed initial-boundary value problem for general n×n quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws on the quarter plane. Our result indicates that this kind of Riemann solution mentioned above for general n×n quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws in the presence of a boundary is globally structurally unstable. Some applications to quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws arising from physics and mechanics are also given.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the large-time behavior of solutions to the initial-boundary value problem for n × n hyperbolic system of conservation laws with artificial viscosity in the half line (0, ∞). We first show that a boundary layer exists if the corresponding hyperbolic part contains at least one characteristic field with negative propagation speed. We further show that such boundary layer is nonlinearly stable under small initial perturbation. The proofs are given by an elementary energy method.  相似文献

It is proven that a class of the generalized Riemann problem for quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws with the uniform damping term admits a unique global piecewise C1 solution u=u(t,x) containing only n shock waves with small amplitude on t?0 and this solution possesses a global structure similar to that of the similarity solution of the corresponding homogeneous Riemann problem. As an application of our result, we prove the existence of global shock solutions, piecewise continuous and piecewise smooth solution with shock discontinuities, of the flow equations of a model class of fluids with viscosity induced by fading memory with a single jump initial data. We also give an example to show that the uniform damping mechanism is not strong enough to prevent the formation of shock waves.  相似文献

We give uniform BV estimates and -stability of Lax-Friedrichs' scheme for a class of systems of strictly hyperbolic conservation laws whose integral curves of the eigenvector fields are straight lines, i.e., Temple class, under the assumption of small total variation. This implies that the approximate solutions generated via the Lax-Friedrichs' scheme converge to the solution given by the method of vanishing viscosity or the Godunov scheme, and then the Glimm scheme or the wave front tracking method.

We study the stability and the convergence for a class of relaxing numerical schemes for conservation laws. Following the approach recently proposed by S. Jin and Z. Xin we use a semilinear local relaxation approximation, with a stiff lower order term, and we construct some numerical first and second order accurate algorithms, which are uniformly bounded in the L and BV norms with respect to the relaxation parameter. Based on kinetic formulation for scalar conservation laws, we present implicit kinetic schemes. For time stepping these schemes require resolution of linear systems of algebraic equations. The scheme is conservative at steady states. We prove that if time marching procedure converges to some steady state solution, then the implicit kinetic scheme converges to some entropy steady state solution. We give sufficient condition of the convergence of time marching procedure. For scalar conservation laws with a stiff source term we construct a stiff numerical scheme with discontinuous artificial viscosity coefficients that ensure the scheme to be equilibrium conserving. We couple the developed implicit approach with the stiff space discretization, thus providing improved stability and equilibrium conservation property in the resulting scheme. Numerical results demonstrate high computational capabilities (stability for large CFL numbers, fast convergence, accuracy) of the developed implicit approach. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. This work gives a condition for existence of singular and delta shock wave solutions to Riemann problem for 2×2 systems of conservation laws. For a fixed left‐hand side value of Riemann data, the condition obtained in the paper describes a set of possible right‐hand side values. The procedure is similar to the standard one of finding the Hugoniot locus. Fluxes of the considered systems are globally Lipschitz with respect to one of the dependent variables. This paper is concerned with the limit relations from the Euler equations of one‐dimensional compressible fluid flow and the magnetohydrodynamics equations to the simplified transport equations, where the δ‐shock waves occur in their Riemann solutions of the latter two equations. The objective is to prove that the Riemann solutions of the perturbed equations coming from the one‐dimensional simplified Euler equations and the magnetohydrodynamics equations converge to the corresponding Riemann solutions of the simplified transport equations as the perturbation parameterx ε tends to zero. Multispecies kinematic flow models lead to nonlinear systems of conservation laws with a possibly large number of unknowns, the concentrations or the densities of the different species. In recent years, the hyperbolic character of several of these models has been analyzed by considering the characteristic polynomial of the Jacobian matrix of the system. This analysis can be considerably simplified by realizing that the fluxes in these models have a particular algebraic structure that can be exploited within a systematic algebraic framework. The framework can serve to determine the eigenvalues, and even the eigenvectors, of the Jacobian matrix of the system, which allows the use of characteristic‐based high‐resolution shock capturing schemes in numerical simulations.© 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, we will give BV-estimates of Lax–Friedrichs' scheme for a simple hyperbolic system of conservation laws with relaxation and get the global existence and uniqueness of BV-solution by the BV-estimates above. Furthermore, our results show that the solution converge towards the solution of an equilibrium model as the relaxation time ε>0 tends to zero provided sub-characteristic condition holds. This work is a continuation of our previous work. In the present paper, we study the existence and uniqueness of global piecewise C1 solutions with shock waves to the generalized Riemann problem for general quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws with linear damping in the presence of a boundary. It is shown that the generalized Riemann problem for general quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws with linear damping with nonlinear boundary conditions in the half space {(t, x) | t ≥ 0, x ≥ 0} admits a unique global piecewise C1 solution u = u (t, x) containing only shock waves with small amplitude and this solution possesses a global structure similar to that of a self‐similar solution u = U (x /t) of the corresponding homogeneous Riemann problem, if each characteristic field with positive velocity is genuinely nonlinear and the corresponding homogeneous Riemann problem has only shock waves but no rarefaction waves and contact discontinuities.
