The gas permeabilities of a number of new structurally related polyimides containing phenylquinoxaline moieties were studied for the first time. The test polymers had different dianhydride units, whereas their diamine components differed in the presence of flexible ether bonds-O-in the main chain, a structure that is reflected in the effective packing of chains and, as a result, in transport parameters. The permeability, diffusion, and solubility coefficients for the gases H2, He, O2, N2, CO, CO2, and CH4, as well as the ideal separation factors for gas pairs, were determined. The transport characteristics of polymers were compared within the given polymer series and with published data for other polymer series.  相似文献

Polyimides with large aromatic rings were prepared from 3,6-diaminocarbazole (CDA), N-ethyl-3,6-diaminocarbazole (ECDA), 2,7-diaminofluorene (DAF), 2,7-diaminofluorenon (DAFO), and dimethyl-3,7-diaminodibenzothiophene-5,5-dioxide (DDBT) with 2-bis(2,4-dicarboxyphenyl) hexafluoropropane dianhydride (6FDA) and 3,3′,4,4′-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA). Their physical properties, including gas permeability and permselectivity, were investigated in comparison with those of the related polyimides from 1,3-phenylenediamine (mPD). Glass transition temperatures of the polyimides with large aromatic rings were much higher than those of the mPD-based polyimides as a result of increased rigidity of the former polymer chains. With changing diamine from mPD to the large aromatic diamines, charge transfer (CT) interaction between the moieties of acid anhydride and diamine seems to be enhanced, judging from the red shift of absorption edge of the polyimide films and the red shift of CT excitation band of the 6FDA-based polyimides in solution. Fraction of free space (VF) was a little smaller for the polyimides with large aromatic rings except DDBT than for the mPD-based polyimides, probably because of enhancement in polymer chain-chain interactions as a result of the increased CT interaction. The DDBT-based polyimides had large VF than the mPD-based polyimides because of the nonplanar structure of neighboring dibenzothiophene-5,5-dioxide and imide rings. For the 6FDA-based polyimides, permeability coefficients to H2, O2, N2, CO2, and CH4 were in the order, DAFO < mPD ~ DAF < CDA < ECDA < DDBT. As for the membrane performance for H2/CH4, CO2/CH4, and O2/N2 systems, it is significant to change diamine from mPD to DDBT or CDA, but not to DAF or DAFO. The DDBT-based polyimides were excellent for H2/CH4 and CO2/CH4 separations. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Sorption rate curves of CO2, N2, and He gases below 1 atm were measured for polyimide films prepared from benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride (BTDA) with 3,5-diaminotoluene trifluoride (DATF), 2,4-diaminotoluene (DAT), m-phenylenediamine (MPD), and diaminobenzoic acid (DABA). The molecular structures of these four polyimides differ only in the substituent groups of the diamine structure. These polyimides exhibit dualmode type sorption isotherms for carbon dioxide that are concave to the pressure axis, typical of glassy polymer/gas system. The apparent diffusion coefficients below 1 atm pressure of carbon dioxide for this series of compounds decrease in the order: BTDA-DATF > BTDA-DAT > BTDA-MPD > BTDA-DABA. A linear relation between the logarithm of the apparent diffusion coefficient and the reciprocal of free volume, calculated by the method of Bondi using density data, is found for these polyimides. However, this tendency is not observed for the other two gases. The activation energies of the apparent diffusion coefficients at 20 cmHg pressure of carbon dioxide increase with increasing cohesive energy density of the polyimides. The energy per mole of free volume elements in a liquidlike structure in each cohesive energy density may be equated to the activation energy and used to calculate the free volume. The values from the activation energy are almost the same as those from Bondi's method.  相似文献

A series of indan‐containing polyimides were synthesized, and their gas‐permeation behavior was characterized. The four polyimides used in this study were synthesized from an indan‐containing diamine [5,7‐diamino‐1,1,4,6‐tetramethylindan (DAI)] with four dianhydrides [3,3′4,4′‐benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride (BTDA), 3,3′4,4′‐oxydiphthalic dianhydride (ODPA), (3,3′4,4′‐biphenyl tetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA), and 2,2′‐bis(3,4′‐dicarboxyphenyl) hexafluoropropane dianhydride (6FDA)]. The gas‐permeability coefficients of these four polyimides changed in the following order: DAI–BTDA < DAI–ODPA < DAI–BPDA < DAI–6FDA. This was consistent with the increasing order of the fraction of free volume (FFV). Moreover, the gas‐permeability coefficients were almost doubled from DAI–ODPA to DAI–BPDA and from DAI–BPDA to DAI–6FDA, although the FFV differences between the two polyimides were very small. The gas permeability and diffusivity of these indan‐containing polyimides increased with temperature, whereas the permselectivity and diffusion selectivity decreased. The activation energies for the permeation and diffusion of O2, N2, CH4, and CO2 were estimated. In comparison with the gas‐permeation behavior of other indan‐containing polymers, for these polyimides, very good gas‐permeation performance was found, that is, high gas‐permeability coefficients and reasonably high permselectivity. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We have synthesized series of comb-like polyimides with mesogenic units in their side groups. Such comb-like polyimides were obtained by polycondensation of aromatic diamines bearing biphenyl-based mesogenic moieties with bicyclo[2,2,2]oct-7-ene 2,3,5,6-tetracarboxylic dianhydride (BCDA). The different diamines, with two lengths of spacer (with 6 and 11 methylene groups), were synthesized in three steps using as mesogenic groups: biphenyl, 4-cyanobiphenyl and 4-(2-methyl-1-butoxy)biphenyl. The synthesis of the polyimides was performed in two steps: polycondensation of a dianhydride with a diamine in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone at room temperature giving the corresponding polyamic acid, followed by thermal cyclization into the corresponding polyimide. The comb-like polyimides were studied by X-ray diffraction between room temperature and 250°C. Two types of smectic structure were established: SmA1 for the long spacer and SmC1 for the short spacer.  相似文献

Mean permeability coefficients for CO2, O2, N2, and CH4 in seven types of 6FDA polyimides with branched or extended diamine moieties were determined at 35.0°C (95.0°F) and at pressures up to 10.5 atm (155 psia). In addition, solubility coefficients for CO2, O2, N2, and CH4 in six of these polyimides were determined at 35.0°C and at 6.8 atm (100 psia). Mean diffusion coefficients for the six gas/polyimide systems were calculated from the permeability and solubility data. The relationships between the chemical structure of the polyimides, some of their physical properties (glass transition temperature, mean interchain spacing, specific free volume), and their gas permeability, diffusivity, and solubility behavior are discussed. The 6FDA polyimides studied here exhibit a considerably lower selectivity for the CO2/CH4 and O2/N2 gas pairs than 6FDA polyimides with short and stiff aromatic diamines with comparable CO2 and O2 permeabilities. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The transport behavior of a new class of membrane materials—a series of poly(phenylquinoxalines) containing heterocyclic fragments in the backbone—has been studied. These polymers contain moieties of a common chemical structure. Therefore, it is possible to follow how the transport parameters change upon introduction of various moieties into the backbone chain. The coefficients of permeability, diffusion, and solubility for H2, He, O2, N2, CO, CO2, and CH4 along with the separation factors for the corresponding pairs of gases have been determined. The results are compared with the data for previously studied polymers of the poly(phenylquinoxaline) series.  相似文献

A series of aromatic diamines were polymerized with two aromatic dianhydrides, pyromellitic dianhydride and 3,3,4,4-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride, and the resulting poly(amic acid)s were thermally cyclodehydrated to aromatic polyimides. The polyimides were characterized by determining the glass transition temperatures (Tg), thermal stability, coefficients of thermal expansion, and wide-angle X-ray diffraction. Structure-property relationships are elucidated and discussed in terms of the structural fragments in the polymer chain. The PMDA-based polyimides generally revealed a higher Tg than the corresponding BPDA-based analogues. Generally, the dilution of the imide content by the insertion of oxyphenylene segments into the diamines significantly reduced the Tg. The introduction of m- or o-phenylene units into the polymer backbone usually resulted in a decrease in Tg. The attachment of pendant groups on the backbone may lead to decreased or increased Tgs, depending on the structure of pendant groups. As evidenced by X-ray diffraction, the polyimides derived from rigid, rod-like diamines or the diamines having two or three p-oxyphenylene showed a higher crystalline tendency. The presence of aliphatic pendant groups slightly reduced the thermal stability of the polyimides. The other structural changes did not show a dramatic influence on the thermal stability. Some polyimides obtained from p- or m-phenylenediamine had low thermal expansion coefficients below 2×10−5°C−1.  相似文献

Thianthrene - 2,3,7,8 - tetracarboxylic dianhydride - 5,5,10,10 - tetraoxide (TADATO), a dianhydride having two sulfonyls between two phenyl rings, was synthesized and polymerized with several diamines by a two-step method. Tough polyimide membranes were obtained with flexible diamines but not with rigid diamines. Most of TADATO-based polyimides are soluble in polar solvents such as N,N-dimethylacetamide and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone. IR study confirmed that almost complete imidization of TADATO-based poly(amic acid) membranes could be achieved by thermal treatment at 100, 200, and 300°C for each 1 h. In a series of polyimides based on 4,4′-oxydianiline, the polyimide from TADATO showed higher gas permeability coefficient of CO2 and higher selectivities of CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 than those of polyimides from pyromellitic dianhydride and 3,3′,4,4′-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride, and was comparable to that from 2,2-bis(3,4-dicarboxyphenyl) hexafluoropropane dianhydride. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Aromatic diamines containing ? SO2? and ? S? moieties have been used to prepare soluble polyimides with ditrifluoromethyl methane bis(phthalic anhydride) (F-series polyimides) and polyamic acid with pyromellitic dianhydride (P-series). Gamma radiolysis gave G(S) values for scission between 1 to 2 with no crosslinking. Significant weight loss occurred with radiolysis is attributable to efficient ? SO2? bond scission for the F-series polyimides, as well as imidization in the cases of P-series polyamic acids.  相似文献

A new unsymmetrical aromatic diamine, viz., 4-pentadecylbenzene-1,3-diamine was synthesized through a series of reaction steps starting from 3-pentadecylphenol. 4-Pentadecylbenzene-1,3-diamine was employed to synthesize a series of new polyimides by one-step polycondensation in m-cresol with four commercially available aromatic dianhydrides, viz., 3,3′,4,4′-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA), 3,3′,4,4′-benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride (BTDA), 4,4′-oxydiphthalic anhydride (ODPA) and 4,4′-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6-FDA). Inherent viscosities of resulting polyimides were in the range 0.33-0.67 dL/g and number average molecular weights were in the range 14,700-52,200 (GPC, polystyrene standard). Polyimides containing pendent pentadecyl chains were soluble in organic solvents such as chloroform, m-cresol, N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc), 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP), pyridine and nitrobenzene. Strong and flexible films of polyimides could be cast from their chloroform solutions. Polyimides exhibited glass transition temperature in the range 158-206 °C. The temperature at 10% wt. loss (T10), determined by TGA in nitrogen atmosphere, of polyimides was in the range 470-480 °C indicating good thermal stability.  相似文献

The goal of this work is to explore new polyimide materials that exhibit both high permeability and high selectivity for specific gases. Copolyimides offer the possibility of preparing membranes with gas permeabilities and selectivities not obtainable with homopolyimides. A series of novel fluorinated copolyimides were synthesized with various diamine compositions by chemical imidization in a two-pot procedure. Polyamic acids were prepared by stoichiometric addition of solid dianhydride in portions to the diamine(s). The gas permeation behavior of 2,2′-bis(3,4′-dicarboxyphenyl) hexafluoropropane dianhydride(6FDA)-2,6-diamine toluene (2,6-DAT)/1,3-phenylenediamine (mPDA) polyimides was investigated. The physical properties of the copolyimides were characterized by IR, DSC and TGA. The glass transition temperature increased with increase in 2,6-DAT content. All the copolyimides were soluble in most of the common solvents. The gas permeability coefficients decreased with increasing mPDA content. However, the permselectivity of gas pairs such as H2/N2, O2/N2, and CO2/CH4 was enhanced with the incorporation of mPDA moiety. The permeability coefficients of H2, O2, N2, CO2 and CH4 were found to decrease with the increasing order of kinetic diameters of the penetrant gases. 6FDA-2,6-DAT/mPDA (3:1) copolyimide and 6FDA-2,6-DAT polyimide had high separation properties for H2/N2, O2/N2, CO2/CH4. Their H2, O2 and CO2 permeability coefficients were 64.99 Barrer, 5.22 Barrer, 23.87 Barrer and 81.96 Barrer, 8.83 Barrer, 39.59 Barrer, respectively, at 35°C and 0.2 MPa (1 Barrer = 10−10 cm3 (STP)·cm·cm−2·s−1·cmHg−1) and their ideal permselectivities of H2/N2, O2/N2 and CO2/CH4 were 69.61, 6.09, 63.92 and 53.45, 5.76, 57.41, respectively. Moreover, all of the copolyimides studied in this work exhibited similar performance, lying on or above the existing upper bound trade-off lines between permselectivity and permeability. They may be utilized for commercial gas separation membrane materials. __________ Translated from Acta Polymerica Sinica, 2008, 8 (in Chinese)  相似文献

A series of dianhydride monomers, 2,2′-disubstituted-4,4′,5,5′-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (substituents = phenoxy, p-methylphenoxy, p-tert-butylphenoxy, nitro, and methoxy) were synthesized by the nitration of an N-methyl protected 3,3′,4,4′-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA) and subsequent aromatic nucleophilic substitutions with aroxides (NaOAr) or methoxide. These dianhydrides were polymerized with various aromatic diamines in refluxing m-cresol containing isoquinoline to afford a series of aromatic polyimides. The effects of varying 2,2′-substituents of the dianhydride (BPDA) moiety on the properties of polyimides were investigated. It was found that polyimides from the dianhydrides containing phenoxy, p-methylphenoxy, and p-tert-butylphenoxy side groups possessed excellent solubility and film forming capability whereas polyimides from 2,2′-dinitro-BPDA and 2,2′-dimethoxy-BPDA were less soluble in organic solvent. The soluble polymers formed flexible, tough and transparent films. The films had a tensile strength, elongation at break, and Young’s modulus in the ranges 102-168 MPa, 8-21%, 2.02-2.38 GPa, respectively. The polymer gas permeability coefficients (P) and ideal selectivities for N2, O2, CO2 and CH4 were determined for the -OAr substituted polyimides. The oxygen permeability coefficient (PO2) and permselectivity of oxygen to nitrogen (PO2/N2) of the films were in the ranges 3.4-11.3 barrer and 3.8-4.6, respectively. The gas permeability typically increased with increasing free volume in the order of tert-butylphenoxy substituted PI > methylphenoxy substituted PI > phenoxy substituted PI.  相似文献

A series of phenylethynyl terminated oligoimides based on 3,3′,4,4′-diphenylsulfonetetracarboxylic dianhydride (DSDA), m-phenylene diamine (m-PDA) or/and 1,4-bis(4-amino-2-trifluoromethylphenoxy)benzene (6FAPB) with calculated molecular weight of 5000 g mol−1 were synthesized. The effect of molecular structure on solubility and melt viscosity of oligoimides as well as the thermal properties of cured polyimide resins was investigated. Experimental results indicated that the oligoimides have good solubility in strong polar solvents to afford homogeneous solutions with the solid content as high as 50 wt%. The oligoimides exhibited better solubility and lower minimum melt viscosity at relatively lower temperature with the incorporation of flexible 6FAPB. These oligoimides could be thermally cured at 320-380 °C to give thermosetted resins. The cured resins have good thermal stability with the glass transition temperatures of 278-329 °C and the onset decomposition temperatures higher than 500 °C. Adhesive properties of polyimides adhered to stainless steel at various conditions were evaluated by lap shear strength test. It was found that the LSS at room temperature increased with the molar ratio of 6FAPB increasing. The polyimides with combination of rigid and flexible structures exhibited good adhesive properties. With the increasing of curing temperature, the lap shear strength of polyimides at elevated temperature maintained at a high level due to the formation of strong bond.  相似文献

A series of polyimides with alicyclic and fluorinated moieties previously synthesized were studied for gas separation applications. The solubility behavior of polyimides in various solvents was analyzed through the solubility parameter approach. Permeability coefficients and ideal selectivities were determined for common gases, that is, He, H2, O2, and N2. Polyimide permeabilities were correlated to an improvement of the soluble character and were increased by the introduction of both alicyclic and fluorinated structures. The effect of the casting solvent on gas separation properties was also pointed out. It was found that it is enhanced with increasing diameters for the gas molecules. Finally, some correlations between permeability coefficients and microstructural parameters were discussed. The probability of correlation appears to be also dependent on the diameter and on the polarizability of the gas molecule. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Permeability and solubility coefficients for H2, CO2, O2, CO, N2, and CH4 in polyimides prepared from 6FDA and methyl-substituted phenylenediamines were measured to investigate effects of the substituents on gas permeability and permselectivity. The methyl substituents restrict internal rotation around the bonds between the phenyl rings and the imide rings. The rigidity and nonplanar structure of the polymer chain, and the bulkiness of methyl groups make chain packing inefficient, resulting in increases in both diffusion and solubility coefficients of the gases. Polyimides from tetramethyl-p-phenylenediamine and trimethyl-m-phenylenediamine display very high permeability coefficients and very low permselectivity due to very high diffusion coefficients and very low diffusivity selectivity, as compared with the other polyimides having a similar fraction of free space. This suggests that these polyimides have high fractions of large-size free spaces.  相似文献

This article describes the synthesis and thermal characterization of novel aryl-substituted rod-like homopolyimides. Synthetic aspects of monomer syntheses and one-step polymer synthesis in m-cresol are presented. Polyimides with rod-like chain structure are based on monophenylated pyromellitic dianhydride (MPPMDA), diphenylated pyromellitic dianhydride (DPPMDA), and as rod-like diamine units on phenylated para-phenylene diamine and 1,1′-binaphthyl-4,4′-diamine. As partial flexible units, which have the possibility to be converted into an extended chain conformation, commercially available 3,3′,4,4′-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA) and 3,4′-oxydianiline (3,4′-ODA) were used. The polyimides were investigated with respect to solution properties and thermal behavior. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

2,5-Bis(4-aminophenyl)-3,4-diphenylthiophene, a polyimide-forming monomer, was prepared in three steps starting from benzyl chloride and sulfur. Novel polyimides were synthesized from the diamine and pyromellitic dianhydride or 3,3′, 4,4′-benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride (BTDA). Polymerization was carried out either by the usual two-step procedure that included ring-opening polyaddition giving polyamic acids, followed by cyclodehydration to polyimides, or by the direct one-pot procedure involving cyclodehydration in situ. The polyimide derived from the diamine and BTDA, especially that prepared by the one-pot procedure in m-cresol containing isoquinoline, is soluble in various organic solvents and gave a yellow, transparent, tough, and flexible film. Solubility of this polyimide varied by the preparative method and by the copolymerization with bis(4-aminophenyl) ether. All the polyimides are highly thermally stable and exhibited no appreciable decomposition up to 450°C in air and nitrogen atmospheres.  相似文献

A novel aromatic diamine monomer, 3,3′‐diisopropyl‐4,4′‐diaminodiphenyl‐3′′,4′′‐difluorophenylmethane (PAFM), was successfully synthesized by coupling of 2‐isopropylaniline and 3,4‐difluorobenzaldehyde. The aromatic diamine was adopted to synthesize a series of fluorinated polyimides by polycondensation with various dianhydrides: pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA), 3,3′,4,4′‐biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA), 4,4′‐oxydiphthalic anhydride (ODPA) and 3,3′,4,4′‐benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride (BTDA) via the conventional one‐step method. These polyimides presented excellent solubility in common organic solvents, such as N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF), N,N‐dimethyl acetamide (DMAc), dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP), chloroform (CHCl3), tetrahydrofuran (THF) and so on. The glass transition temperatures (Tg) of fluorinated polyimides were in the range of 260–306°C and the temperature at 10% weight loss in the range of 474–502°C. Their films showed the cut‐off wavelengths of 330–361 nm and higher than 80% transparency in a wavelength range of 385–463 nm. Moreover, polymer films exhibited low dielectric properties in the range of 2.76–2.96 at 1 MHz, as well as prominent mechanical properties with tensile strengths of 66.7–97.4 MPa, a tensile modulus of 1.7–2.1 GPa and elongation at break of 7.2%–12.9%. The polymer films also showed outstanding hydrophobicity with the contact angle in the range of 91.2°–97.9°.  相似文献

Aromatic polyimides with side chain nonlinear optical chromophores have been investigated through a facile two-step synthetic route. First, various poly(hydroxy imide)s have been synthesized by direct thermal imidization of diaminophenol dihydrochloride salt and aromatic dianhydride monomers. The resulting polyimides bearing phenolic hydroxy groups were found to react easily with the terminal hydroxy group on the chromophores via the Mitsunobu condensation to give corresponding polyimides with high optical nonlinearities and good solubility in common organic solvents. Detailed physical properties showed that these polyimides have a molecular weight (Mw) of 31,000 and high glass transition temperature above 220°C, ensuring a long-term alignment stability at elevated temperature. The electrooptic coefficients, r33, of the electrically poled polymer films were in the range 1.8–7.6 pm/V at 1.3 μm. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
