It is shown, that for the action of a -compact group, being amenable as an abstract discrete group, on a locally compact measure space (X, , ), is not the unique invariant mean. Furthermore, this paper gives a characterisation of probability spaces, having a unique invariant mean for the action of an amenable group.  相似文献

Summary We obtain a general Darling-Erds type theorem for the maximum of appropriately normalized sums of i.i.d. mean zero r.v.'s with finite variances. We infer that the Darling-Erds theorem holds in its classical formulation if and only ifE[X 2 1 {|X|t}]=o((loglogt)-1) ast. Our method is based on an extension of the truncation techniques of Feller (1946) to non-symmetric r.v.'s. As a by-product we are able to reprove fundamental results of Feller (1946) dealing with lower and upper classes in the Hartman-Wintner LIL.  相似文献

Horrocks has shown that every vector bundle on 2 and 3 admits a certain double-ended resolution by line bundles, which he called a monad. We reprove Horrocks' results taking much care of uniqueness of the monads so obtained. This technique should be useful for constructing moduli spaces of stable vector bundles.  相似文献

If the matrixA is not of full rank, there may be many solutions to the problem of minimizing Ax–b overx. Among such vectorsx, the unique one for which x is minimum is of importance in applications. This vector may be represented asx=A + b. In this paper, the functional equation technique of dynamic programming is used to find the shortest solution to the least-squares problem in a sequential fashion. We prove a local limit theorem (LLT) on Cramer-type large deviations for sums S V = t V ( t ), where t , t Z , 1, is a Markov Gaussian random field, V Z , and is a bounded Borel function. We get an estimate from below for the variance of S V and construct two classes of functions , for which the LLT of large deviations holds.  相似文献

In a graph, a chordless cycle of length greater than three is called a hole. Let be a {0, 1} vector whose entries are in one-to-one correspondence with the holes of a graphG. We characterize graphs for which, for all choices of the vector , we can pick a subsetF of the edge set ofG such that |F H| H (mod 2), for all holesH ofG and |F T| 1 for all trianglesT ofG. We call these graphsuniversally signable. The subsetF of edges is said to be labelledodd. All other edges are said to be labelledeven. Clearly graphs with no holes (triangulated graphs) are universally signable with a labelling of odd on all edges, for all choices of the vector . We give a decomposition theorem which leads to a good characterization of graphs that are universally signable. We consider a quasilinear elliptic problem whose left-hand side is a Leray-Lions operator of p-Laplacian type. If p < < N and the right-hand side is a Radon measure with singularity of order at x0A , then any supersolution in W1,p() has singularity of order at least (–p)/(p–1) at x0. In the proof we exploit a pointwise estimate of A-superharmonic solutions, due to Kilpeläinen and Malý, which involves Wolff's potential of Radon's measure.  相似文献

We introduce a new service discipline, called thesynchronized gated discipline, for polling systems. It arises when there are precedence (or synchronization) constraints between the order that jobs in different qucues should be served. These constraints are described as follows: There areN stations which are fathers of (zero or more)synchronized stations (children). Jobs that arrive at synchronized stations have to be processed only after jobs that arrived prior to them at their corresponding father station have been processed. We analyze the performance of the synchronized gated discipline and obtain expressions for the first two moments and the Laplace-Stieltjes transform (LST) of the waiting times in different stations, and expressions for the moments and LST of other quantities of interest, such as cycle duration and generalized station times. We also obtain a pscudo conservation law for the synchronized gated discipline, and determine the optimal network topology that minimizes the weighted sum of the mean waiting times, as defined in the pseudo conservation law. It is shown that for each irreducible constituent of permutation character of G, the symmetry class of tensors associated with G and is non-trivial. Using the Faber transformation technique, it is shown that A. A. Pekarskii's theorem on the rational approximation of functions in Hp, 1<< implies at once P. P. Petryshev's theorem on the rational approximation in the norm Lp[–1, l], 1<< and vice versa. Contact Riemannian manifolds (M, ,g) satisfying the condition (1) =0, where is the torsion introduced byChern andHamilton [6] and is the characteristic vector field, have interesting geometric properties (see [6], [9], [11]). In this paper we give a variational characterization of compact contact Riemannian manifolds which satisfy (1). We prove that every distribution solution , of the considered form, satisfies the following universal (and sharp) L -bound:
This bound has two consequences. The first one is that is smooth and the second one is that a solution 0 exists, if and only if . We also prove a non-existence result for some solitary waves having finite energy. Some more general nonlinear Schrödinger equations are considered in the third and last section.
