A tripling construction for overlarge sets of KTS

An overlarge set of , denoted by , is a collection {(X?{x},B_x):x∈X}, where X is a (v+1)-set, each (X?{x},B_x) is a and {B_x:x∈X} forms a partition of all triples on X. In this paper, we give a tripling construction for overlarge sets of KTS. Our main result is that: If there exists an with a special property, then there exists an . It is obtained that there exists an for u=2²ⁿ⁻¹−1 or u=qⁿ, where prime power q≡7 (mod 12) and m≥0,n≥1.     

Systems of orthogonal polynomials arising from the modular j-function

Let be the polynomial whose zeros are the j-invariants of supersingular elliptic curves over . Generalizing a construction of Atkin described in a recent paper by Kaneko and Zagier (Computational Perspectives on Number Theory (Chicago, IL, 1995), AMS/IP 7 (1998) 97-126), we define an inner product on for every . Suppose a system of orthogonal polynomials {P_n,ψ(x)}_n=0^∞ with respect to exists. We prove that if n is sufficiently large and ψ(x)P_n,ψ(x) is p-integral, then over . Further, we obtain an interpretation of these orthogonal polynomials as a p-adic limit of polynomials associated to p-adic modular forms.     

An application of anisotropic regularization to the existence of weak Pareto minimal points

Given a function f on Rⁿ, we introduce the concept of anisotropic regularization as a generalization of Tikhonov regularization f_ε(x)=f(x)+εx. When f is a continuous -function on Rⁿ and K is a box in Rⁿ, we study the properties of and the limiting behavior of solutions of a regularized box variational inequality problem , with emphasis on the existence of weak Pareto minimal points with respect to K. This work generalizes results of Sznajder and Gowda (1998) proved in the setting of nonlinear complementarity problems.     

Quartic, octic residues and Lucas sequences

Let be a prime and a,b∈Z with a²+b²≠p. Suppose p=x²+(a²+b²)y² for some integers x and y. In the paper we develop the calculation technique of quartic Jacobi symbols and use it to determine . As applications we obtain the congruences for modulo p and the criteria for (if ), where {Un} is the Lucas sequence given by U₀=0, U₁=1 and Un+1=bUn+k²Un−1(n?1). We also pose many conjectures concerning , or .     

Generating functions via integral transforms

In this paper, we use some integral transforms to derive, for a polynomial sequence {Pn(x)}_n?0, generating functions of the type , starting from a generating function of type , where {γn}_n?0 is a real numbers sequence independent on x and t. That allows us to unify the treatment of a generating function problem for many well-known polynomial sequences in the literature.     

Monotonicity of zeros of Laguerre polynomials

Denote by x_nk(α), k=1,…,n, the zeros of the Laguerre polynomial . We establish monotonicity with respect to the parameter α of certain functions involving x_nk(α). As a consequence we obtain sharp upper bounds for the largest zero of .     

Quadratic addition rules for quantum integers

For every positive integer n, the quantum integer [n]_q is the polynomial [n]_q=1+q+q²+?+q^n-1. A quadratic addition rule for quantum integers consists of sequences of polynomials , , and such that for all m and n. This paper gives a complete classification of quadratic addition rules, and also considers sequences of polynomials that satisfy the associated functional equation .     

On the degree of homogeneous bent functions

In this paper, the degree of homogeneous bent functions is discussed. We prove that for any nonnegative integer k, there exists a positive integer N such that for n?N there exist no 2n- variable homogeneous bent functions having degree n-k or more, where N is the least integer satisfying .
