We study the behavior of two archetypal quantum spin glasses at T = 0 by exact diagonalization techniques: the random Ising model in a transverse field and the random Heisenberg model. The behavior of the dynamical spin response is obtained in the spin-glass ordered phase. In both models it is gapless and has the general form chi(")(omega) = qdelta(omega)+chi(")(reg)(omega), with chi(")(reg)(omega) approximately omega for the Ising and chi(")(reg)(omega) approximately const for the Heisenberg, at low frequencies. The method provides new insight to the physical nature of the low-lying excitations.  相似文献

We study the spontaneous symmetry breaking of a superfluid Bose-Fermi mixture in a two-dimensional double-well potential. The mixture is described by a set of coupled Gross-Pitaevskii equations. The symmetry breaking phenomenon is demonstrated in the two-dimensional double-well potential in the mixture. The results are summarized in the phase diagrams of the mixture particle numbers, which are divided into symmetric and asymmetric regions by the asymmetry ratios. The dynamical pictures of the spontaneous symmetry breaking induced by a gradual transformation of the single-well potential into a double-well one are also illustrated. The properties of the quantum degenerate mixture are explored using the realistic parameters for a 40K-87Rb system.  相似文献

许多非线性动力系统都有某种对称性,在不同情形下可有不同的表现形式,但始终保持其对称的特点.不同对称形式间的转变导致对称破缺分岔或激变.关于非线性动力系统中相空间运动轨道的对称破缺分岔,已有大量研究工作,但绝大多数是指周期或拟周期相轨的对称破缺,偶尔提到对称系统中的混沌相轨也存在“对偶性”.最近,在简谐外激Duffing系统周期轨道对称破缺引发鞍-结分岔的研究中,得到了分岔后由Poincaré映射点间断流构成的图像,其中包括两个稳定周期结点、一个周期鞍点,及其稳定流形与不稳定流形,均较规则.本工作研究了正弦 关键词: 对称破缺 混沌 激变 分形吸引域  相似文献

We have experimentally studied the spin-induced time reversal symmetry (TRS) breaking as a function of the relative strength of the Zeeman energy (E(Z)) and the Rashba spin-orbit interaction energy (E(SOI)), in InGaAs-based 2D electron gases. We find that the TRS breaking, and hence the associated dephasing time tau(phi)(B), saturates when E(Z) becomes comparable to E(SOI). Moreover, we show that the spin-induced TRS breaking mechanism is a universal function of the ratio E(Z)/E(SOI), within the experimental accuracy.  相似文献

We report first observations of B(s)(0) → J/ψη and B(s)(0) → J/ψη'. The results are obtained from 121.4 fb(-1) of data collected at the Υ(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+ e- collider. We obtain the branching fractions B(B(s)(0) → J/ψη)=[5.10±0.50(stat)±0.25(syst)(-0.79)(+1.14)(N(B(s)(*) B(s)(*))]×10(-4), and B(B(s)(0) → J/ψη')=[3.71±0.61(stat)±0.18(syst)(-0.57)(+0.83)(N(B(s)(*) B(s)(*))]×10(-4). The ratio of the two branching fractions is measured to be (B(B(s) → J/ψη'))/(B(B(s) → J/ψη))=0.73±0.14(stat)±0.02(syst).  相似文献

We show that the interlayer tunneling I-V in double-layer quantum Hall states displays a rich behavior which depends on the relative magnitude of sample size, voltage length scale, current screening, disorder, and thermal lengths. For weak tunneling, we predict a negative differential conductance of a power-law shape crossing over to a sharp zero-bias peak. An in-plane magnetic field splits this zero-bias peak, leading instead to a "derivative" feature at V(B)(B(parallel)) = 2 pi Planck's over 2 pi upsilon B(parallel)d/e phi(0), which gives a direct measurement of the dispersion of the Goldstone mode corresponding to the spontaneous symmetry breaking of the double-layer Hall state.  相似文献

We have measured the transverse asymmetry A(T') in 3He(e,e(')) quasielastic scattering in Hall A at Jefferson Laboratory with high precision for Q2 values from 0.1 to 0.6 (GeV/c)(2). The neutron magnetic form factor G(n)(M) was extracted based on Faddeev calculations for Q2 = 0.1 and 0.2 (GeV/c)(2) with an experimental uncertainty of less than 2%.  相似文献

CePt3Si is a novel heavy fermion superconductor, crystallizing in the CePt3B structure as a tetragonally distorted low symmetry variant of the AuCu3 structure type. CePt3Si exhibits antiferromagnetic order at T(N) approximately 2.2 K and enters into a heavy fermion superconducting state at T(c) approximately 0.75 K. Large values of H(')(c2) approximately -8.5 T/K and H(c2)(0) approximately 5 T refer to heavy quasiparticles forming Cooper pairs. Hitherto, CePt3Si is the first heavy fermion superconductor without a center of symmetry.  相似文献

We report the first observation of the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decays D(+)→K(+)η((')) using a 791 fb(-1) data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. The ratio of the branching fractions of doubly Cabibbo-suppressed relative to singly Cabibbo-suppressed D(+)→π(+)η((')) decays are B(D(+)→K(+)η)/B(D(+)→π(+)η)=(3.06±0.43±0.14)% and B(D(+)→K(+)η')/B(D(+)→π(+)η')=(3.77±0.39±0.10)%. From these, we find that the relative final-state phase difference between the tree and annihilation amplitudes in D(+) decays, δ(TA), is (72±9)° or (288±9)°. We also report the most precise measurements of CP asymmetries to date: A(CP)(D(+)→π(+)η)=(+1.74±1.13±0.19)% and A(CP)(D(+)→π(+)η')=(-0.12±1.12±0.17)%.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the phenomenon of Hopf or more specifically quantum double symmetry breaking. We devise a criterion for this type of symmetry breaking which is more general than the one originally proposed in F.A. Bais, B.J. Schroers, J.K. Slingerland [Broken quantum symmetry and confinement phases in planar physics, Phys. Rev. Lett. 89 (2002) 181601]; Hopf symmetry breaking and confinement in (2+1)-dimensional gauge theory, JHEP 05 (2003) 068], and therefore extends the number of possible breaking patterns that can be described consistently. We start by recalling why the extended symmetry notion of quantum double algebras is an optimal tool when analyzing a wide variety of two-dimensional physical systems including quantum fluids, crystals and liquid crystals. The power of this approach stems from the fact that one may characterize both ordinary and topological modes as representations of a single (generally nonabelian) Hopf symmetry. In principle a full classification of defect mediated as well as ordinary symmetry breaking patterns and subsequent confinement phenomena can be given. The formalism applies equally well to systems exhibiting global, local, internal and/or external (i.e. spatial) symmetries. The subtle differences in interpretation for the various situations are pointed out. We show that the Hopf symmetry breaking formalism reproduces the known results for ordinary (electric) condensates, and we derive formulae for defect (magnetic) condensates which also involve the phenomenon of symmetry restoration. A new organic ferroelectric compound, 4-(cyanomethyl)anilinium perchlorate, proceeds a second-order phase transition from a paraelectric phase (P2(1)/m) to a ferroelectric phase (P2(1)) at 184 K. A perfect ferroelectric hysteresis loop was observed even at 10 KHz. It is the first example of a molecule-based organic ferroelectric whose polarization can be switched at such a high frequency. The temperature dependent second harmonic generation effect shows that the second-order nonlinear coefficient is nearly zero above T(c) and proportional to the spontaneous polarization below T(c), suggesting the occurrence of symmetry breaking, in good agreement with crystal structural determination. The origin of ferroelectricity was ascribed to the displacements of -NH(3)(+) cations and ClO(4)(-) anions from the symmetric positions including a small part of the order-disorder behaviors of the ClO(4)(-) anions.  相似文献

In this paper we consider Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) in one-, two- and three-dimension lattice potentials. The key argument for the explanation of the transition from Superfluidity phase to Mott-Insulator phase is suggested to be the spontaneous symmetry breaking effect which occurs for critical values of the ratio between the on-site interaction term and the hopping matrix element. Such an effect can be directly seen in the Gross-Pitaevskii equation with double-well potentials and it also explains the different behavior between one-dimensional models and two/three-dimensional models.  相似文献

Two recent experimental developments, when combined, may have far-reaching implications. S(phiK(S))<0, if confirmed, would imply large s-b mixing, a new CP phase, and right-handed dynamics. Large Deltam(B(s)) would be likely, making the B(s) program at hadron machines difficult. Reconstruction of B vertex from K(S) at B factories, as shown by BaBar's first measurement of SK(S)(pi(0)), makes SK(S)(pi(0)gamma) in B-->K(*0)gamma accessible. This would be a boon for B factory upgrades. Supersymmetric Abelian flavor symmetry, independently motivated, can realize all of this with a light sb(1) squark. B factory and collider studies of flavor, CP and supersymmetry, may not be what we had expected.  相似文献

A complete analysis of dynamical scale symmetry breaking in 2+1-dimensional QED at both zero and finite temperature is presented by looking at solutions to the Schwinger-Dyson equation. In different kinetic energy regimes we use various numerical and analytic techniques (including an expansion in large flavour number). It is confirmed that, contrary to the case of 3+1 dimensions, there is no dynamical scale symmetry breaking at zero temperature, despite the fact that chiral symmetry breaking can occur dynamically. We calculate low-energy contributions to the weak form factors of B (D) → π in the frameworks of heavy-light chiral perturbation theory (HLCPT) including vector meson effects. The calculation is done to the order 1/Λcsb3 in the expansion with respect to Λcsbcsb is the chiral symmetry breaking scale) at O(1) in 1/mQ expansion and to 1/Λcsb2 at l/mQ. It is found that nonperturbative effects dominate B (D) → π form factors and the values are comparable with those from quark model approach.  相似文献

Using 13.7 fb(-1) of data recorded by the CLEO detector at Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we report evidence of two new charmed baryons: one decaying into Xi(0')(c)pi(+) with the subsequent decay Xi(0')(c)-->Xi(0)(c)gamma, and its isospin partner decaying into Xi(+')(c)pi(-) followed by Xi(+')(c)-->Xi(+)(c)gamma. We measure the following mass differences for the two states: M(Xi(0)(c)gammapi(+))-M(Xi(0)(c)) = 318.2+/-1.3+/-2.9 MeV and M(Xi(+)(c)gammapi(-))-M(Xi(+)(c)) = 324.0+/-1.3+/-3.0 MeV. We interpret these new states as the J(P) = 1 / 2(-) Xi(c1) particles, the charmed-strange analogs of the Lambda(+)(c1)(2593).  相似文献

We report new precise H(e,e(')p)pi(0) measurements at the Delta(1232) resonance at Q(2)=0.127 (GeV/c)(2) obtained at the MIT-Bates out-of-plane scattering facility which are particularly sensitive to the transverse electric amplitude (E2) of the gamma(*)N-->Delta transition. The new data have been analyzed together with those of earlier measurements to yield precise quadrupole to dipole amplitude ratios: Re(E(3/2)(1+)/M(3/2)(1+))=(-2.3+/-0.3(stat+syst)+/-0.6(model))% and Re(S(3/2)(1+)/M(3/2)(1+))=(-6.1+/-0.2(stat+syst)+/-0.5(model))% for M(3/2)(1+)=(41.4+/-0.3(stat+syst)+/-0.4(model))(10(-3)/m(pi(+))). The derived amplitudes give credence to the conjecture of deformation in hadrons favoring, at low Q2, the dominance of mesonic effects.  相似文献

We study the low-temperature low-frequency conductivity sigma of an interacting one-dimensional electron system in the presence of a periodic potential. The conductivity is strongly influenced by conservation laws, which, we argue, need to be violated by at least two noncommuting umklapp processes to render sigma finite. The resulting dynamics of the slow modes is studied within a memory matrix approach, and we find an exponential increase as the temperature is lowered, sigma approximately (Deltan)(2)e(T0/(NT)) close to commensurate filling M/N, Deltan = n-M/N<1, and sigma approximately e((T(')(0)/T)(2/3)) elsewhere.  相似文献

We have observed spontaneous symmetry breaking of the population of Brownian particles between two moving potentials in the spatiotemporally symmetric system. Cold atoms preferentially occupy one of the dynamic double-well potentials, produced in the parametrically driven dissipative magneto-optical trap far from equilibrium, above a critical number of atoms. We find that the population asymmetry, which may be interpreted as the biased Brownian motion, can be qualitatively described by the mean-field Ising-class phase transition. This in situ study may be useful for investigation of dynamic phase transition or temporal behavior of critical phenomena.  相似文献

Gross–Pitaevskii and nonlinear Hartree equations are equations of nonlinear Schrödinger type that play an important role in the theory of Bose–Einstein condensation. Recent results of Aschbacher et al.(3) demonstrate, for a class of 3-dimensional models, that for large boson number (squared L 2norm), $N$ , the ground state does not have the symmetry properties of the ground state at small $N$ . We present a detailed global study of the symmetry breaking bifurcation for a 1-dimensional model Gross–Pitaevskii equation, in which the external potential (boson trap) is an attractive double-well, consisting of two attractive Dirac delta functions concentrated at distinct points. Using dynamical systems methods, we present a geometric analysis of the symmetry breaking bifurcation of an asymmetric ground state and the exchange of dynamical stability from the symmetric branch to the asymmetric branch at the bifurcation point.  相似文献
