We present measurements of the Nusselt number N as a function of the Rayleigh number R and the Prandtl number sigma in cylindrical cells with aspect ratios gamma = 0.5 and 1.0. We used acetone, methanol, ethanol, and 2-propanol with Prandtl numbers sigma = 4.0, 6.5, 14.2, and 34.1, respectively, in the range 3x10(7) less, similarR less, similar10(11). At constant R, N(R,sigma) varies with sigma by only about 2%. This result disagrees with the extrapolation of the Grossmann and Lohse theory beyond its range of validity, which implies a decrease by 20% over our sigma range, but agrees with their recent extension of the theory to small Reynolds numbers.  相似文献

We have observed electron impact ionization of highly excited sodium Rydberg atoms in ns and nd states, n=35-51, below E=2 eV electron kinetic energy with energy resolution 0.25 eV. Measured absolute cross sections near 0 eV range from sigma(35d) approximately 7 x 10(-10) to sigma(50d) approximately 4 x 10(-9) cm(2). The energy dependence is consistent with that of widely used binary encounter approximation cross sections, and sigma(n) follows a power law in n. The measured cross sections are 14 to 24 times larger than theoretically predicted values. This enhancement may signal the effect of large polarizabilities of high Rydberg states not yet accounted for in ionization theories.  相似文献

We present measurements of the normalized charge transport or Nusselt number Nu as a function of the aspect ratio Gamma for turbulent convection in an electrically driven film. In analogy with turbulent Rayleigh-Bénard convection, we develop the relevant theoretical framework in which we discuss the local power-law scaling of Nu with a dimensionless electrical forcing parameter R. For these experiments where 10(4) less, similar R less, similar 2 x 10(5) we find that Nu approximately F(Gamma)Rgamma with either gamma=0.26 (+/-0.02) or gamma=0.20 (+/-0.03), in excellent agreement with the theoretical predictions of gamma=1/4 and 1/5. We analyze the decay B0-->K+K-K0 using 383 x 10(6) BB events collected by the BABAR detector at SLAC to extract CP violation parameter values over the Dalitz plot. Combining all K+K-K0 events, we find ACP=-0.015+/-0.077+/-0.053 and beta eff = 0.352+/-0.076+/-0.026 rad, corresponding to a CP violation significance of 4.8 sigma. A second solution near pi/2-beta eff is disfavored with a significance of 4.5 sigma. We also report ACP and beta eff separately for decays to phi(1020)K0, f0(980)K0, and K+K-K0 with mK+K- > 1.1 GeV/c2.  相似文献

We present high-precision measurements of the Nusselt number N as a function of the Rayleigh number R for a cylindrical sample of water (Prandtl number sigma=4.4) of height L approximately equal to 50 cm and aspect ratio Gamma identical with D/L approximately equal to 1 (D is the diameter) for 3 x 10(9)< or =R< or =6 x 10(10). For R approximately 3 x 10(9) the data are consistent with existing results for acetone (sigma=4.0, R< or =3 x 10(9)). There the measurements are also consistent with a model by Grossmann and Lohse (GL). As R increases, the measurements fall below the GL prediction. Near R=6 x 10(10) the prediction is 8% above the data.  相似文献

We conduct nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations to measure the shear stress sigma, the average inherent structure energy E{IS}, and the effective temperature T{eff} of a sheared model glass as a function of bath temperature T and shear strain rate gamma. The behavior of the positron- 2 gamma annihilation rate on an atomic target near the positronium (Ps) formation threshold is determined. When the positron energy epsilon approaches the threshold epsilon(thr) from below, the effective number of electrons contributing to the annihilation, Z(eff), grows as Z(eff) approximately A/square root of [epsilon(thr)-epsilon], where A is related to the size of the Ps formation cross section, sigma(Ps) approximately B square root of [epsilon-epsilon(thr)], by A = B square root of [2 epsilon(thr)]/32 pi (in atomic units). Taking account of the finite Ps lifetime eliminates the singularity in Z(eff) and shows that close to threshold the positron annihilation cross section is identical to the para-Ps formation cross section.  相似文献

We discuss the relation between the T2 coefficient of electrical resistivity A and the T-linear specific-heat coefficient gamma for heavy-fermion systems with general N, where N is the degeneracy of quasiparticles. A set of experimental data reveals that the Kadowaki-Woods relation, A/gamma2=1 x 10(-5) muOmega cm(K mol/mJ)2, collapses remarkably for large-N systems, although this relation has been regarded to be commonly applicable to the Fermi liquids. Instead, based on the Fermi-liquid theory we propose a new relation, A /gamma2=1 x 10(-5) with A =A/1/2N(N-1) and gamma =gamma/1/2N(N-1). This new relation exhibits an excellent agreement with the data for the whole range of degenerate heavy fermions.  相似文献

We observe signals for the decays psi(3770) --> XJ/psi from data acquired with the CLEO detector operating at the CESR e+ e- collider with square root of s = 3773 MeV. We measure the following branching fractions Beta(psi(3770) --> XJ/psi and significances: (189 +/- 20 +/- 20) x 10(-5) (11.6sigma) for X = pi+ pi-, (80 +/- 25 +/- 16) x 10(-5) (3.4sigma) for X = pi0 pi0, and (87 +/- 33 +/- 22) x 10(-5) (3.5sigma) for X = eta, where the errors are statistical and systematic, respectively. The radiative return process e+ e- --> gamma psi(2S) populates the same event sample and is used to measure Gamma ee[psi(2S)] = (2.54 +/- 0.03 +/- 0.11) keV.  相似文献

We report the first structural characterization of the triplet isomer of C6. Forty-one rovibrational/fine structure transitions in the nu 4(sigma u) antisymmetric stretch fundamental of the C6 cluster have been measured by diode laser absorption spectroscopy of a supersonic carbon cluster beam. The observed spectrum is characteristic of a centrosymmetric linear triplet state with cumulene-type bonding. The measured ground state rotational constant B0 = 0.048 479 (10)cm-1 and the effective bond length r(eff) = 1.2868 (1) angstroms are in good agreement with ab initio predictions for the linear triplet (3 sigma g-) state of C6.  相似文献

We report the observation of the radiative decay B+-->K1(1270)(+) gamma using a data sample of 140 fb(-1) taken at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. We find the branching fraction to be B(B+-->K1(1270)(+)gamma)=(4.3+/-0.9(stat.)+/-0.9(syst.))x10(-5) with a significance of 7.3sigma. We find no significant signal for B+-->K1(1400)(+)gamma and set an upper limit B(B+-->K1(1400)(+)gamma)<1.5 x 10(-5) at the 90% confidence level. We also measure inclusive branching fractions for B+-->K+pi+pi-gamma and B0-->K0pi+pi-gamma in the mass range 1 GeV/c(2)相似文献

For a broad range of electron densities n and temperatures T, the in-plane magnetoconductivity of the two-dimensional system of electrons in silicon MOSFETs can be scaled onto a universal curve with a single parameter H(sigma)(n,T), where H(sigma) obeys the empirical relation H(sigma) = A(n) [Delta(n)(2)+T2](1/2). The characteristic energy k(B)Delta associated with the magnetic field dependence of the conductivity decreases with decreasing density, and extrapolates to 0 at a critical density n(0), signaling the approach to a zero-temperature quantum phase transition. The decays of J/psi --> etaphif(0)(980)[eta --> gammagamma, phi --> K(+) K(-), f(0)(980) --> pi(+)pi(-)] are analyzed using a sample of 5.8 x 10(7) J/psi events collected with the BESII detector at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider. A structure at around 2.18 GeV/c(2) with about 5 sigma significance is observed in the phif(0)(980) invariant mass spectrum. A fit with a Breit-Wigner function gives the peak mass and width of m = 2.186+/-0.010(stat)+/-0.006(syst) GeV/c(2) and Gamma = 0.065+/-0.023(stat)+/-0.017(syst) GeV/c(2), respectively, which are consistent with those of Y(2175), observed by the BABAR Collaboration in the initial-state radiation process e(+)e(-) --> gamma(ISR) phif(0)(980). The production branching ratio is determined to be Br(J/psi --> etaY(2175))Br(Y(2175)- -> phif(0)(980))Br(f(0)(980) --> pi(+)pi(-)) = [3.23+/-0.75(stat)+/-0.73(syst)] x 10(-4), assuming that the Y(2175) is a 1(--) state.  相似文献

(Incidentally, commonly available computer algebra evaluates the integrals \(E_N^{}(z;\sigma )\) only for N up to a dozen, due to memory constraints). Asymptotic evaluations are needed for the large-N regime. For general complex z these have traditionally been limited to analytic expansion techniques; several rigorous results are proved for complex z near 0. Yet if \(z\in \mathbb {R}\) one can also compute this “infinite-degree” limit with the help of the familiar relative entropy principle for probability measures; a rigorous proof of this fact is supplied. Computer algebra-generated evidence is presented in support of a conjecture that a generalization of the relative entropy principle to signed or complex measures governs the \(N\rightarrow \infty \) asymptotics of the regime \(iz\in \mathbb {R}\). Potential generalizations, in particular to point vortex ensembles and the prescribed Gauss curvature problem, and to random matrix ensembles, are emphasized.

The spreading of liquid nanodroplets of different initial radii R0 is studied using molecular dynamics simulation. Results for two distinct systems, Pb on Cu(111), which is nonwetting, and a coarse-grained polymer model, which wets the surface, are presented for Pb droplets ranging in size from approximately 55,000 to 220,000 atoms and polymer droplets ranging in size from approximately 200,000 to 780 000 monomers. In both cases, a precursor foot precedes the spreading of the main droplet. This precursor foot spreads as r(2)(f)(t) = 2D(eff)t with an effective diffusion constant that exhibits a droplet-size dependence D(eff) approximately R(1/2)(0). The radius of the main droplet r(b)(t) approximately R(4/5)(0) is in agreement with kinetic models for the cylindrical geometry studied.  相似文献

The influence of the existence of absorbing atoms in a laser cavity on the critical exponents of abrupt transitions between steady states in the system of single mode onephoton laser driven by an external coherent field is discussed. An isolated threshold when ,and a kind of threshold when, where is the pump parameter of the absorbing atoms, is obtained. The asymptotic forms of the families of potential functions for the system near these threshold are also found. The well-known scaling hypothesis in the general homogeneous function form is shown to be a characteristic of these asymptotic families. Four threshold exponents, , , and and four threshold amplitudes,B, D, andA, near each of these thresholds, are obtained. The threshold exponents near each threshold obey the scaling laws of critical phenomena, while the corresponding amplitudes obey the definite relations between exponents and amplitudes.  相似文献

A solution for the time- and age-dependent connectivity distribution of a growing random network is presented. The network is built by adding sites that link to earlier sites with a probability A(k) which depends on the number of preexisting links k to that site. For homogeneous connection kernels, A(k) approximately k(gamma), different behaviors arise for gamma<1, gamma>1, and gamma = 1. For gamma<1, the number of sites with k links, N(k), varies as a stretched exponential. For gamma>1, a single site connects to nearly all other sites. In the borderline case A(k) approximately k, the power law N(k) approximately k(-nu) is found, where the exponent nu can be tuned to any value in the range 2相似文献

Using an 11.4MeV/u136Xe beam of the UNILAC accelerator of GSI and anatW target, A=184 isobars were produced and separated by using an on-line mass separator. A new isomeric state was found in184Hf. This state decays with a half-life of 48(10) s and emits three -rays of 73, 482, and 555 keV as well as lower-lying cascade transitions. The hindrance of the 73 keV-E1 transition with K=8 is compared with those of other even-even hafnium isotopes. The half-life of184Lu was estimated to be between 15 and 25s.  相似文献

The discrete subgroup Δ(27) of SU(3) has the interesting multiplication rule , which is used to obtain near tribimaximal neutrino mixing.
