The feasibility of population transfer from a populated level via an intermediate state to the target level driven by fewcycle pulses is theoretically discussed.The processes of on-or far-resonance stimulated Raman scattering with sequential or simultaneous ultrashort pulses are investigated respectively.We find that the ultrashort pulses with about two optical cycles can be used to realize the population operation.This suggests that the population transfer can be completed in the femtosecond time scale.At the same time,our simulation shows that the signal of the carrier-envelope-phase-dependent effect can be enlarged due to quantum interference in some conditions.Our theoretic study may promote the research on the coherent control via ultrashort pulses in the related fields.  相似文献

The behavior of population transfer in an excited-doublet four-level system driven by linear polarized few-cycle ultrashort laser pulses is investigated numerically. It is shown that almost complete population transfer can be achieved even when the adiabatic criterion is not fulfilled. Moreover, the robustness of this scheme in terms of the Rabi frequencies and chirp rates of the pulses is explored.  相似文献

Based on a femtosecond laser plasma-induced hard x-ray source with a high laser pulse energy( 100 mJ) at 10 Hz repetition rate,we present a time-resolved x-ray diffraction system on an ultrafast time scale.The laser intensity is at relativistic regime(2 × 10~(19) W/cm~2),which is essential for effectively generating K_α source in high-Z metal material.The produced copper K_α radiation yield reaches to 2.5 × 10~8 photons/sr/shot.The multilayer mirrors are optimized for monochromatizating and two-dimensional beam shaping of K_α emission.Our experiment exhibits its ability of monitoring the transient structural changes in a thin film SrCoO_(2.5) crystal.It is demonstrated that this facility is a powerful tool to perform dynamic studies on samples and adaptable to the specific needs for different particular applications with high flexibility.  相似文献

We demonstrate a coherent synthesis system based on femtosecond Yb-doped fiber laser technology. The output pulse of the amplification system is divided into two replicas and seeded into photonic crystal fibers of two parallel branches for nonlinear pulse compression. Because of the different nonlinear dynamics in the photonic crystal fibers, the compressed pulses show different spectra, which can be spliced to form a broad coherent spectrum. The integrated timing jitter between the pulses of two branches is less than one tenth of an optical cycle.By coherently synthesizing pulses from these two branches, 8 fs few-cycle pulses are produced.  相似文献

用经典辐射理论对线偏振周期量级激光脉冲的线性Thomson散射进行分析,从理论上得到它可产生亚阿秒脉冲的结论. 计算显示,在电子相对论因子为50、激光脉冲中心波长为1μm、归一化光场强度为0.01的情况下,用包含1.5个光周期的激光脉冲,可获得0.2as(半高全宽)的散射脉冲输出. 还对光场载波包络初相φce和电子进入光场的初相φin对散射脉冲的影响作了分析讨论,结果表明,在适当的φceφin条件下,能实现单个阿秒脉冲输出,并可对脉冲宽度和频率进行调谐. 关键词: 线性Thomson散射 周期量级激光脉冲 载波包络初相 阿秒脉冲  相似文献

利用两束频率比为1:3的重合脉冲控制分子振转态布居转移. 计算结果表明, 初始态|0,0>到目标态|3,1>的跃迁概率接近100%. 两束脉冲的相位可以控制跃迁概率. 当φ 1 =1.68 π 时, 两束脉冲相互增强, 跃迁概率增加. 当φ 1 =0.64π 时, 两束脉冲相互抵消, 跃迁概率降低. 第二束脉冲的场强对布居转移过程具有较大影响.  相似文献

We show that the strength of the central electric field peaks in a few-cycle laser pulse can be recovered from a frequency-time image of the high harmonic spectrum generated in a gas volume. Pulse intensity, duration, and also the carrier-envelope phase phi(CE) can be determined. A simple and robust observable is defined that provides a gauge of phi(CE) for pulse durations up to three optical cycles, corresponding to 7.8 fs FWHM at the Ti:sapphire wavelength of 800 nm.  相似文献

We measured for the first time the influence of the Gouy effect on focused few-cycle laser pulses. The carrier-envelope phase is shown to undergo a smooth variation over a few Rayleigh distances. This result is of critical importance for any application of ultrashort laser pulses, including high-harmonic and attosecond pulse generation, as well as phase-dependent effects.  相似文献

We investigate differential electron momentum distributions in nonsequential double ionization with linearly polarized, few-cycle pulses, using a classical model based on a laser-assisted inelastic (e(-),2e(-)) rescattering mechanism. These yields, as functions of the momentum components parallel to the laser polarization, are highly asymmetric and strongly influenced by the phase difference between the pulse envelope and its carrier oscillation, radically changing their sign around a critical phase. This behavior provides a powerful tool for absolute-phase measurements.  相似文献

We report the generation of few-cycle multiterawatt light pulses with a temporal contrast of 10(10), when measured as close as 2 ps to the pulse's peak. Tens of picoseconds before the main pulse, the contrast value is expected to spread much beyond the measurement limit. Separate measurements of contrast improvement factors at different stages of the laser system indicate that real contrast values may reach 10(19) and 10(14), when measured 50 and 25 ps before the pulse's peak, respectively. The combination of the shortest pulse duration and the highest contrast renders our system a promising front-end architecture for future multipetawatt laser facilities.  相似文献

The asymmetric photoionization of atoms irradiated by intense, few-cycle laser pulses is studied numerically. The results show that the pulse intensity affects the asymmetric photoionization in three aspects. First, at higher intensities, the asymmetry becomes distinctive for few-cycle pulses of longer durations. Second, as the laser intensity increases, the maximal asymmetry first decreases then increases after it has reached a minimal value. Last, the value of the carrier-envelope phase corresponding to the maximal asymmetry varies with the pulse intensity. This study reveals that the increasing of pulse intensity is helpful for observing the asymmetric photoionization.  相似文献

This paper investigates experimentally high-order harmonic generation(HHG) of neon gas with 5-fs and 25-fs driving laser pulses.It has been demonstrated that the cutoff energy of the harmonic extreme ultraviolet photons is extended to 131 eV and the HHG spectrum near the cutoff region becomes continuum as the driving laser pulse duration is 5 fs;whereas much lower cutoff photon energy and discrete harmonic spectrum near the cutoff region are presented as the laser pulse duration is 25 fs.The results can be explained by the fact that neutral atoms can be exposed to more intense laser field before they are depleted by ionization because of the extremely short rising time of the few-cycle pulse.The 5-fs driving laser pulse paves the way of generation of coherent x-ray in the water window and single attosecond pulse.  相似文献

We demonstrate broadband light generation by focusing two-color ultrashort laser pulses into a Raman-active crystal, lead tungstate (PbWO(4)). As many as 20 anti-Stokes and 2 Stokes fields are generated due to strong near-resonant excitation of a Raman transition. The generated spectrum extends from the infrared, through the visible region, to the ultraviolet, and it consists of discrete spatially separated sidebands. Our measurements confirm good mutual spatial and temporal coherence among the generated fields and open possibilities for synthesis of subfemtosecond light waveforms.  相似文献

Within the framework of plane-wave angular spectrum analysis of the electromagnetic field structure, a solution valid for tightly focused radially polarized few-cycle laser pulses propagating in vacuum is presented. The resulting field distribution is significantly different from that based on the paraxial approximation for pulses with either small or large beam diameters. We compare the electron accelerations obtained with the two solutions and find that the energy gain obtained with our new solution is usually much larger than that with the paraxial approximation solution.  相似文献

Photoionization of hydrogen atoms in few-cycle laser pulses is studied numerically. The total ionization probability, the instantaneous ionization probability, and the partial ionization probabilities in a pair of opposite directions are obtained. The partial ionization probabilities are not always equal to each other which is termed as inversion asymmetry. The variation of asymmetry degree with the CE phase, the pulse duration and the pulse intensity is studied. It is found that the pulse intensity affects the asymmetry degree in many aspects. Firstly, the asymmetry is more distinct at higher intensities than that at lower intensities when the pulse duration exceeds 4 cycles; secondly, the maximal asymmetry in lower intensities varies with the CE phase visibly while at higher intensities not; thirdly, the partial ionization probabilities equal to each other for some special CE phases. For lower pulse intensities, the corresponding value of CE phase is always 0.5π and 1.5π, while for higher pulse intensities, the corresponding value varies with the pulse intensity. Similar phenomena were observed in a recent experiment using few-cycle radio-frequency (RF) pulses.  相似文献

For the shortest pulses generated to date, the amplitude of the electromagnetic wave changes almost as rapidly as the field oscillates. The temporal variation of the field, which directly governs strong-field interactions, therefore depends on whether the maximum of the pulse amplitude coincides with that of the wave cycle or not, i.e., on the phase of the field with respect to the pulse envelope. It is demonstrated that the direction of electron emission from photoionized atoms can be controlled by varying the phase of the field, providing for the first time a tool for its accurate determination. Directing fast electron emission to the right or to the left with the light phase constitutes a new kind of coherent control.  相似文献

A mechanism behind the ionization-induced self-compression effect for ultrashort laser pulses propagating in gas-filled capillaries is proposed. It is shown that as a result of excitation of the nonlinear-plasma waveguide laser pulses producing gas ionization can be self-compressed to few-cycle duration. This effect is used for high-energy laser pulses and its scalability to J-level energies is demonstrated.  相似文献

We theoretically investigate the propagation of few-cycle laser pulses in resonant two-level dense media with a sub- wavelength structure, which is described by the full Maxwell-Bloch equations without the frame of slowly varying envelope and rotating wave approximations. The input pulses can be shaped into shorter ones with a single or less than one optical cycle. The effect of the parameters of the subwavelength structure and laser pulses is studied. Our study shows that the media with a subwavelength structure can significantly shape the few-cycle pulses into a subcycle pulse, even for the case of chirp pulses as input fields. This suggests that such subwavelength structures have potential application in the shaping of few-cycle laser pulses.  相似文献
