The preparation of an environmentally friendly nanocomposite based on plasticized potato starch and unmodified montmorillonite clay is described. Data on the influence of montmorillonite concentration on the mechanical properties of the materials obtained are reported. The effective elastic constants of the nanocomposites are calculated. The calculation results are compared with experimental data. The results of an investigation into the barrier and thermal properties of polymer nanocomposites prepared by blending a styrene-acrylate copolymer solution with a suspension of organically modified montmorillonite are presented. The influence of organomontmorillonite content on the barrier properties of the nanocomposite is investigated with the example of water vapor permeability. The experimental values of the permeability coefficient are compared with those calculated by using a model taking into account the increased path of diffusing water molecules caused by the shielding effect of plate like particles. The thermograms of differential scanning calorimetry in the temperature range from −40 to 130°C are presented. The results of experimental and theoretical investigations into the kinetics of moisture sorption by a neat epoxy resin obtained from RAE Industries (Reapox 520, D523) are reported. The sorption process was realized in atmospheres with a constant relative humidity of 33, 53, 75, 84, and 97% and a temperature of 50°C. The results obtained showed that the diffusion behavior of epoxy resin did not obey Fick’s law under the experimental conditions considered. Consequently, the application of a non-Fickian diffusion model was necessary. For this purpose, two-phase moisture sorption models, a model with a time-dependent diffusivity, a two-phase material model, as well as relaxation and convection models of anomalous diffusion, were considered. The model parameters were obtained from the approximation of experimental sorption data. A comparative analysis of the sorption models was performed, and the specific features of their applications were estimated. The two-phase material model and the model with varying diffusivity were found to be the most suitable ones due to a good agreement between calculation results and experimental data and the rather small (three or four) number of parameters, which make them more flexible and physically more justified than the classical Fick’s model with its two parameters. __________ Translated from Mekhanika Kompozitnykh Materialov, Vol. 43, No. 4, pp. 555–570, July–August, 2007.  相似文献

The operational properties (strength, heat conductivity, hygroscopic sorption, vapor permeability, and frost resistance) of a heat-insulation composite of density 150–350 kg/m3 are investigated. The matrix consists of an aerated concrete substance and a disperse filler of expanded polystyrene crumbs obtained by crushing the household polystyrene package waste. The macro-and microstructure of the composite are considered. The preparation of a polymer nanocomposite by compounding an aqueous polymer emulsion with an aqueous dispersion of montmorillonite clay is described. A styrene-acrylate copolymer emulsion and a purified native montmorillonite clay from Latvian deposits are used. An X-ray diffraction analysis and differential scanning calorimetric thermograms are shown. Conclusion A complex experimental study of the state of sorbed moisture in a unidirectionally reinforced organoplastic was conducted. The methods of TG, DSC, DTA, and NMR showed that moisture absorption in OP is reversible up to 8%, the sorbed moisture does not crystallize in the temperature range from –70 to 0 °C, it is finely dispersely distributed and is in the strongly and weakly bound state, and there is almost no free moisture. The results of the sorption experiments conducted on OP and its structural components: microplastic and EDT-10 binder, in a wide range of temperature-humidity conditions and the data from physical studies showed that moisture absorption in the materials basically takes place by diffusion and is satisfactorily described by a phenomenological model based on the Fick equation.A method of accelerated determination of the sorption characteristics of anisotropic composite materials was developed, using the introduced concept of the fictitious diffusion coefficient and the extrapolation method of determining the limiting moisture content. The features of migration of moisture on the interface in a multiphase system were investigated, and the possibility of successive calculation estimation of the sorption characteristics of an organoplastic at different structural levels was demonstrated: components—unidirectionally reinforced composite—model laminated article. The tested phenomenological model of the sorption process and the experimentally obtained values of the characteristics of the material were the basis for a method of calculation determination of the resource of moisture-proofing properties of a model multilayer article of CM in nonstationary external conditions.Translated from Mekhanika Kompozitnykh Materialov, No. 4, pp. 624–632, July–August, 1990.  相似文献

Conclusion Thus, we have developed an algorithm and program to calculate fields of moisture concentration in a laminated plate for steady external temperatures and moisture contents. A test calculation and comparison of some of the findings with previous results demonstrated the accuracy of the program for solving a number of diffusion problems. For example, the program can be used to evaluate the life of the moisture-protective properties of polymer products, as well as to model moisture absorption in fiber composites.Curves of moisture concentration were calculated for a unidirectionally reinforced (with organic fibers) plastic at different relative humidities. We also calculated sorption curves and isotherms, which were shown to agree satisfactorily with previous empirical curves. It was shown that it is possible to approximately evaluate the sorption behavior of a unidirectionally reinforced fiber composite by means of a three-layer model and to analyze the stability of the result against an increase in the number of layers. A variant of determining the elastic characteristics of composites containing irregularly oriented shape-anisotropic filler particles of two types (short fibers and thin platelets) is considered. The effective elastic constants of the composites are calculated by using the method of orientational averaging of elastic characteristics of isolated transversely isotropic structural elements reinforced with unidirectionally oriented short fibers or coplanarly arranged thin platelets. The superposition of elastic properties of the irregularly oriented structural elements, with account of their orientational distribution in the composite material, is accepted. Analysis results for the elastic properties of a composite with a small amount of coplanarly arranged platelike filler particles are presented. The geometrical form of the particles is described by an oblate ellipsoid of revolution. The calculations are performed by formulas obtained by using the Eshelby approach for media with a low concentration of inclusions. The effect of anisometry of the ellipsoidal particles and of the ratio between the elastic moduli of the filler and matrix on the effective elastic constants of the composite is discussed. Results of an experimental research into the physical, chemical, mechanical, and aesthetical changes suffered by pultruded glass-fiber-reinforced polyester profiles during their testing for accelerated aging under the action of moisture, temperature, and ultraviolet (UV) radiation are presented. The profiles were submitted to the influence of four different exposure environments: (i) in an immersion chamber, (ii) in a condensation chamber, (iii) in a QUV accelerated weathering apparatus, and (iv) in a xenon-arc accelerated weathering apparatus. The results obtained were analyzed regarding the changes in their weight, sorption ability, tensile and flexural strength characteristics, color, and gloss; the chemical changes were investigated by means of Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. Considerable chromatic changes were observed, especially owing to the UV radiation. Although some reduction in the mechanical properties was observed, particularly in the immersion and condensation chambers, the durability tests proved a generally good behavior of this material under the aggressive conditions considered. The preparation of polymer nanocomposites by mixing a solution of a styrene-acrylate copolymer with a suspension of organically modified montmorillonite in dimethyl formamide is described. Seven different compositions with organomontmorillonite content from 0 to 7 wt.% were prepared and tested. Results of their X-ray diffraction analysis are presented. Data on the influence of organomontmorillonite content on the tensile stress-strain curves, elastic modulus, strength, and ultimate elongation of the nanocomposites are obtained. We consider a reaction–diffusion parabolic problem on branched structures. The Hodgkin–Huxley reaction–diffusion equations are formulated on each edge of the graph. The problems are coupled by some conjugation conditions at branch points. It is important to note that two different types of the flux conservation equations are considered. The first one describes a conservation of the axial currents at branch points, and the second equation defines the conservation of the current flowing at the soma in neuron models. We study three different types of finite-difference schemes. The fully implicit scheme is based on the backward Euler algorithm. The stability and convergence of the discrete solution is proved in the maximum norm, and the analysis is done by using the maximum principle method. In order to decouple computations at each edge of the graph, we consider two modified schemes. In the predictor algorithm, the values of the solution at branch points are computed by using an explicit approximation of the conservation equations. The stability analysis is done using the maximum principle method. In the predictor–corrector method, in addition to the previous algorithm, the values of the solution at the branch points are recomputed by an implicit algorithm, when the discrete solution is obtained on each subdomain. The stability of this algorithm is investigated numerically. The results of computational experiments are presented.  相似文献

Solutions to the Fick's diffusion equation with stationary and nonstationary boundary and nonequilibrium initial conditions for describing the moisture sorption under actual operational conditions are presented. The cases of stepwise and harmonic changes in the environmental humidity are considered. Generalized criteria for comparing the moisture sorption under nonstationary and stationary conditions are developed. A possibility of accelerated computer simulation of natural periodic changes in the atmospheric humidity is shown. The solutions obtained are approbated on a polyester resin.  相似文献

A variant of stepwise determination of the elastic characteristics of quasi-isotropic polymer-silicate nanocomposites with randomly oriented platelike filler particles is considered. First, the elastic constants of transversely isotropic structural elements with coplanarly placed filler particles are obtained, and then they are averaged over all spatial directions by using the orientational averaging method. The characteristic features of the hierarchical structure of exfoliated and intercalated nanocomposites are also considered. We propose and analyze a numerical scheme for nonlinear degenerate parabolic convection–diffusion–reaction equations in two or three space dimensions. We discretize the diffusion term, which generally involves an inhomogeneous and anisotropic diffusion tensor, over an unstructured simplicial mesh of the space domain by means of the piecewise linear nonconforming (Crouzeix–Raviart) finite element method, or using the stiffness matrix of the hybridization of the lowest-order Raviart–Thomas mixed finite element method. The other terms are discretized by means of a cell-centered finite volume scheme on a dual mesh, where the dual volumes are constructed around the sides of the original mesh. Checking the local Péclet number, we set up the exact necessary amount of upstream weighting to avoid spurious oscillations in the convection-dominated case. This technique also ensures the validity of the discrete maximum principle under some conditions on the mesh and the diffusion tensor. We prove the convergence of the scheme, only supposing the shape regularity condition for the original mesh. We use a priori estimates and the Kolmogorov relative compactness theorem for this purpose. The proposed scheme is robust, only 5-point (7-point in space dimension three), locally conservative, efficient, and stable, which is confirmed by numerical experiments.This work was supported by the GdR MoMaS, CNRS-2439, ANDRA, BRGM, CEA, EdF, France.  相似文献

The moisture sorption characteristics of polymer concrete and its components (polyester resin, unfilled and filled with diabase flour) on long-term (up to 15-year) exposure to water at different temperatures are studied. It is established that, during the long-term sorption and subsequent desorption at 20°C, the ratio of diffusion coefficients of the polymer concrete and the corresponding resin is equal to the value of time-moisture reduction function, which characterizes changes in the creep compliance of the materials. The evaluation of the diffusion coefficient of the composite from the properties of its components, by using various known heat-and-mass-transfer models, shows that most acceptable is the Kerner model. With account of volume content of pores, an estimate for the limiting moisture content in the composite is proposed. An analysis of sorption curves of the composite and the corresponding resin reveals that Fick's law does not describe the experimental results in the range of large times and/or elevated temperatures. In the case of polyester resin filled with diabase flour, the composite effect is expressed in a linear increase in the specimen mass (the rate of the increase is temperature-dependent. In the case of polymer concrete, the composite effect is expressed in mass losses, which can be described by Fick's law with a diffusion coefficient and a limiting moisture content both depending on temperature.  相似文献

Experiments on adhesion between the film surfaces of a polystyrene (PS)-poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (PPO) blend were carried out below the glass transition temperature of the bulk (T g ), at T=T g −13 and T=T g −23°C. The contact time varied from 2 to 1440 min. The strength at the interface was then measured at room temperature. The strength at the blend-blend interface was calculated using an additive diffusion model which takes into account the strength at homopolymer-homopolymer interfaces (PS-PS, PS-PPO, and PPO-PPO), surface concentration of components, and its variation with depth. A fair agreement between the calculated and measured strength was found. The results of the study support the concept of decreasing glass transition temperature near the surface of polymer glasses as compared with T g of the bulk.
