A class of bounded operators on Sobolev spaces

We describe a class of nonlinear operators which are bounded on the Sobolev spaces , for and 1 < p < . As a corollary, we prove that the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is bounded on , for and 1 < p < ; this extends the result of J. Kinnunen [7], valid for s = 1. Received: 5 December 2000     

The Reduced Minimum Modulus in <Emphasis>C</Emphasis><Superscript>*</Superscript>-Algebras

We define the reduced minimum modulus of a nonzero element a in a unital C ^*-algebra by . We prove that . Applying this result to and its closed two side ideal , we get that dist , and for any if RR = 0, where and is the quotient homomorphism and . These results generalize corresponding results in Hilbert spaces.     

Type A Hecke algebras and related algebras

Let be the Hecke algebra of the symmetric group over a field K of characteristic and a primitive -th root of one in K. We show that an -module is projective if and only if its restrictions to any -parabolic subalgebra of is projective. Moreover, we give a new construction of blocks of -parabolic subalgebras, in terms of skew group algebras over local commutative algebras. Received: 30 June 2003

Ultraproducts of real interpolation spaces between L p -spaces

Let , be a family of compatible couples of L^p-spaces. We show that, given a countably incomplete ultrafilter in , the ultraproduct of interpolation spaces defined by the real method is isomorphic to the direct sum of an interpolation space of type , an intermediate K?the space between and being a purely atomic measure space, and a K?the function space K(Ω₃) defined on some purely non atomic measure space (Ω₃, ν₃) in such a way that Ω₂ ∪ Ω₃ ≠∅. The Maximum Size Of Graphs With A Unique<Emphasis Type="Italic">k</Emphasis>- Factor

For suitable positive integers n and k let m(n, k) denote the maximum number of edges in a graph of order n which has a unique k-factor. In 1964, Hetyei and in 1984, Hendry proved for even n and , respectively. Recently, Johann confirmed the following conjectures of Hendry: for and kn even and for n = 2kq, where q is a positive integer. In this paper we prove for and kn even, and we determine m(n, 3).     

On the Singularities of the Magnetic Spectral Shift Function at the Landau Levels

We consider the three-dimensional Schrödinger operators and where , A is a magnetic potential generating a constant magnetic field of strength , and where decays fast enough at infinity. Then, A. Pushnitskis representation of the spectral shift function (SSF) for the pair of operators is well defined for energies We study the behaviour of the associated representative of the equivalence class determined by the SSF, in a neighbourhood of the Landau levels Reducing our analysis to the study of the eigenvalue asymptotics for a family of compact operators of Toeplitz type, we establish a relation between the type of the singularities of the SSF at the Landau levels and the decay rate of V at infinity. Cyclicity of zeros of families of analytic functions

Let be a family of holomorphic functions in the unit disk , which are also holomorphic in a parameter . We express cyclicity (=generalized multiplicity) of a zero of at via some algebraic characteristics of the ideal generated by the Taylor coefficients of . As an example we estimate the cyclicity of the family of generalized exponential polynomials.     

Operator inequalities and construction of Krein spaces

On the structure of level sets of uniform and Lipschitz quotient mappings from $$ \mathbb{R}^n $$ to $$ \mathbb{R} $$

We study two questions posed by Johnson, Lindenstrauss, Preiss, and Schechtman, concerning the structure of level sets of uniform and Lipschitz quotient mappings from . We show that if , is a uniform quotient mapping then for every has a bounded number of components, each component of separates and the upper bound of the number of components depends only on and the moduli of co-uniform and uniform continuity of .Next we prove that all level sets of any co-Lipschitz uniformly continuous mapping from to are locally connected, and we show that for every pair of a constant and a function with , there exists a natural number , so that for every co-Lipschitz uniformly continuous map with a co-Lipschitz constant and a modulus of uniform continuity , there exists a natural number and a finite set with card so that for all has exactly components, has exactly components and each component of is homeomorphic with the real line and separates the plane into exactly 2 components. The number and form of components of for are also described - they have a finite tree structure.
