This paper presents the influence of magnetic field on heat due to viscous and electrical dissipations for an incompressible, viscous, electrically conducting fluid through a circular pipe in the presence of an applied (transverse) uniform magnetic field. The walls of the pipe are assumed to be non-conducting and kept at uniform temperature gradient in one case and at a constant temperature gradient in another case. The heat equation governing the present problem is solved exactly in hypergeometric series. The temperature at the centre of the pipe Te, unweighted mean temperature Tm and weight mean temperature TM are calculated. The temperature profiles are shown graphically for different values of Hartmann number M, Brinkman number Br and a non-dimensional number S. Numerical calculations are made for the Nusselt number and are entered in the table.  相似文献

This paper deals with the steady forced flow of a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting fluid against a porous rotating disk when a uniform magnetic field acts perpendicular to the disk surface. For small suction the equations of motion are integrated numerically by Kármán-Pohlhausen method, but for large suction a series solution in the inverse powers of the suction parameter is obtained. The effects of disk porosity and magnetic field on the various flow parameters are discussed in detail.  相似文献

An analysis is presented to study the effects of viscous dissipation and Joule heating on MHD-free convection flow past a semi-infinite vertical flat plate in the presence of the combined effect of Hall and ion-slip currents for the case of power-law variation of the wall temperature. The fluid is permeated by a strong transverse magnetic field imposed perpendicularly to the plate on the assumption of a small magnetic Reynolds number. The governing differential equations are transformed by introducing proper non-similarity variables and solved numerically. The effects of various parameters on the velocity and temperature profiles as well as the local wall shear stresses and the local Nusselt number are presented graphically and in tabular form. It is found that the magnetic field acts as a retarding force on the tangential flow but has a propelling effect on the induced lateral flow. The skin-friction factor for the tangential flow and the local Nusselt number decrease but the skin-friction factor for the lateral flow increases as the magnetic field increases. The skin-friction factor for the tangential and lateral flows are increased while the local Nusselt number is decreased if the effect of viscous dissipation, Joule heating and heat generation are considered. The opposite trend was observed as the temperature power coefficient n is increased. Also, the skin-friction factor for the tangential flow and the local Nusselt number are increased due to the Hall and ion-slip currents, whereas the skin-friction factor for the tangential flow increases when Hall values increase to one and decreases for values of Hall greater than one, but reduces by rising ion-slip values.  相似文献

The classical conservation theorems for magnetic force lines, magnetic flux through a fluid surface, and intensity of magnetic vector tubes are generalized to plane flows of a finitely conducting fluid in an orthogonal magnetic field. The Helmholtz and Kelvin vorticity conservation theorems are generalized for plane motion of a viscous conducting fluid in an orthogonal magnetic field and the Bernoulli integral is derived. The Bernoulli integral is also generalized for plane motion of viscous ideally conducting fluid in a longitudinal magnetic field. The influences of Hall current and slip condition on the MHD flow induced by sinusoidal peristaltic wavy wall in two dimensional viscous fluid through a porous medium for moderately large Reynolds number is considered on the basis of boundary layer theory in the case where the thickness of the boundary layer is larger than the amplitude of the wavy wall. Solutions are obtained in terms of a series expansion with respect to small amplitude by a regular perturbation method. Graphs of velocity components, both for the outer and inner flows for various values of the Reynolds number, slip parameter, Hall and magnetic parameters are drawn. The inner and outer solutions are matched by the matching process. An interesting application of the present results to mechanical engineering may be the possibility of the fluid transportation without an external pressure.  相似文献

In this paper a study is carried out to understand the transition effect of boundary layer flow: (1) due to a suddenly imposed magnetic field over a viscous flow past a stretching sheet and (2) due to sudden withdrawal of magnetic field over a viscous flow past a stretching sheet under a magnetic field. In both the cases the sheet stretches linearly along the direction of the fluid flow. Governing equations have been non-dimensionalised and the non-dimensionalised equations have been solved using the implicit finite difference method of Crank–Nicholson type. Comparison between the steady state exact solutions and the steady state computed solutions has been carried out. Graphical representation of the dimensionless horizontal velocity, vertical velocity and local skin friction profiles of the steady state and unsteady state has been presented. Computation has been carried out for various values of the magnetic parameter M. The obtained results has been interpreted and discussed.  相似文献

Both numerical and asymptotic analyses are performed to study the similarity solutions of three‐dimensional boundary‐layer viscous stagnation point flow in the presence of a uniform magnetic field. The three‐dimensional boundary‐layer is analyzed in a non‐axisymmetric stagnation point flow, in which the flow is developed because of influence of both applied magnetic field and external mainstream flow. Two approaches for the governing equations are employed: the Keller‐box numerical simulations solving full nonlinear coupled system and a corresponding linearized system that is obtained under a far‐field behavior and in the limit of large shear‐to‐strain‐rate parameter (λ). From these two approaches, the flow phenomena reveals a rich structure of new family of solutions for various values of the magnetic number and λ. The various results for the wall stresses and the displacement thicknesses are presented along with some velocity profiles in both directions. The analysis discovered that the flow separation occurs in the secondary flow direction in the absence of magnetic field, and the flow separation disappears when the applied magnetic field is increased. The flow field is divided into a near‐field (due to viscous forces) and far‐field (due to mainstream flows), and the velocity profiles form because of an interaction between two regions. The magnetic field plays an important role in reducing the thickness of the boundary‐layer. A physical explanation for all observed phenomena is discussed. The flow of an electrically conducting incompressible viscous fluid near an infinite flat wall in the presence of a magnetic field when the free stream velocity is to be expressed in power series of √ t is considered. The effect of the magnetic field strength on the velocity field induced magnetic field and skin friction is analyzed for two particular cases of the free stream velocity.  相似文献

Lie group method is investigated for solving the problem of heat transfer in an unsteady, three-dimensional, laminar, boundary-layer flow of a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting fluid over inclined permeable surface embedded in porous medium in the presence of a uniform magnetic field and heat generation/absorption effects. A uniform magnetic field is applied in the y-direction and a generalized flow model is presented to include the effects of the macroscopic viscous term and the microscopic permeability of porous medium. The infinitesimal generators accepted by the equations are calculated and the extension of the Lie algebra for the problem is also presented. The restrictions imposed by the boundary conditions on the generators are calculated. The investigation of the three-independent-variable partial differential equations is converted into a two-independent-variable system by using one subgroup of the general group. The resulting equations are solved numerically with the perturbation solution for various times. Velocity, temperature and pressure profiles, surface shear stresses, and wall-heat transfer rate are discussed for various values of Prandtl number, Hartmann number, Darcy number, heat generation/absorption coefficient, and surface mass-transfer coefficient.  相似文献

The unsteady magnetohydrodynamic viscous flow and heat transfer of Newtonian fluids induced by an impulsively stretched plane surface in two lateral directions are studied by using an analytic technique, namely, the homotopy method. The analytic series solution presented here is highly accurate and uniformly valid for all time in the entire region. The effects of the stretching ratio and the magnetic field on the surface shear stresses and heat transfer are studied. The surface shear stresses in x- and y-directions and the surface heat transfer are enchanced by increasing stretching ratio for a fixed value of the magnetic parameter. For a fixed stretching ratio, the surface shear stresses increase with the magnetic parameter, but the heat transfer decreases. The Nusselt number takes longer time to reach the steady state than the skin friction coefficients. There is a smooth transition from the initial unsteady state to the steady state.  相似文献

The realization of locomotion based on the deformation of a free surface of a magnetic fluid layer in a traveling magnetic field is studied. A plane flow of an incompressible viscous magnetic fluid layer on a horizontal surface in a nonuniform magnetic field and a plane two-layers flow of incompressible viscous magnetic fluids between two parallel solid planes in a magnetic field is considered. Also the flow of an incompressible viscous magnetic fluid layer on a cylinder in a nonuniform magnetic field is an object of investigation. The deformation and the motion of a body made by a magnetizable polymer in an alternating magnetic field are experimentally studied. The cylindrical body (worm) which is located in a cylindrical tube is analyzed. These effects can be used in designing autonomous mobile robots without a hard cover. Such robots can be employed in clinical practice and biological investigations. (© 2008 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

The problem of the effect of dust particles on the thermal convection in micropolar ferromagnetic fluid saturating a porous medium subject to a transverse uniform magnetic field has been investigated theoretically. Linear stability analysis and normal mode analysis methods are used to find an exact solution for a flat micropolar ferromagnetic fluid layer contained between two free boundaries. In case of stationary convection, the effect of various parameters like medium permeability, dust particles, non-buoyancy magnetization, coupling parameter, spin-diffusion parameter and micropolar heat conduction parameter are analyzed. For sufficiently large values of magnetic parameter M1, the critical magnetic thermal Rayleigh number for the onset of instability is determined numerically and results are depicted graphically. It is also observed that the critical magnetic thermal Rayleigh number is reduced solely because the heat capacity of clean fluid is supplemented by that of the dust particles. The principle of exchange of stabilities is found to hold true for the micropolar ferromagnetic fluid saturating a porous medium heated from below in the absence of micropolar viscous effect, microinertia and dust particles.  相似文献

Overstability in a horizontal layer of a viscoelastic fluid is considered in the presence of a uniform magnetic field. The equations of motion appropriate to hydromagnetics in a Maxwellian fluid have been established and the analysis has been carried out in terms of normal modes. The proper solutions have been obtained for the case of two free boundaries. The dispersion relation obtained is found to be quite complex and involves the Prandtl number p1, magnetic Prandtl number p2, a parameter Q characterizing the strength of the magnetic field, and a parameter Γ which characterizes the elasticity of the fluid. Numerical calculations have been performed for different values of the parameters involved and the values of critical Rayleigh numbers, wave numbers, and frequencies for the onset of instability as overstability have been obtained. It is found that the magnetic field has a stabilizing influence on the overstable mode of convection in a viscoelastic fluid. Elasticity is found to have a destabilizing influence as in the absence of a magnetic field. Thus the effect of a magnetic field is the same as that for an ordinary viscous fluid.  相似文献

The problem of two-dimensional, steady, nonlinear flow of an incompressible, viscous fluid between two parallel permeable disks is studied using the computer-extended series solution (CESS). The limitation of the classical regular perturbation technique (RPT) in solving this problem is highlighted and the CESS method in conjunction with Padé approximation is advocated to analyze the problem for much larger values of suction/injection Reynolds number R and to achieve higher accuracy. The skin-friction coefficient and coefficient of pressure distribution are evaluated for different values of R . The advantages of using CESS method over the RPT and numerical technique are discussed.  相似文献

A numerical model of particle motion in fluid flow under the influence of hydrodynamic and magnetic forces is presented. As computational tool, a flow solver based on the Boundary Element Method is used. The Euler-Lagrange formulation of multiphase flow is considered. In the case of a particle with a magnetic moment in a nonuniform external magnetic field, the Kelvin body force acts on a single particle. The derived Lagrangian particle tracking algorithm is used for simulation of dilute suspensions of particles in viscous flows taking into account gravity, buoyancy, drag, pressure gradient, added mass and magnetophoretic force. As a benchmark test case the magnetite particle motion in cellular flow field of water is computed with and without the action of the magnetic force. The effect of the Kelvin force on particle motion and separation from the main flow is studied for a predefined magnetic field and different values of magnetic flux density. Stoke's classic problem involving the impulsive motion of an infinite flat plate in an unbounded viscous incompressible fluid is investigated under the additional specification that the fluid is electrically conducting and the motion is developed in the presence of uniform transverse magnetic field. For the fluids with arbitrary magnetic Prandtl number, the compact expression for the skin friction coefficient at the plate is given in terms of exponential and error functions of complex arguments. For the fluids with unit magnetic Prandtl number, expressions for the induced magnetic field, velocity, current density and induced electric field in the viscous boundary layer region set up near the plate are obtained. The effect of the magnetic field on the skin friction is to make it approach the steady state faster than in nonmagnetic case.  相似文献

The unsteady Couette flow of a viscous incompressible fluid between two parallel plates in the presence of a transverse magnetic field is considered. Using the Laplace transform technique, expressions for the velocity of the fluid and the intensities of the electrical and magnetic fields are obtained in two cases; when the plates are non-conducting and when they are perfectly conducting.  相似文献

The problem of the converse Lagrange theorem /1, 2/ in magnetohydrodynami.es is investigated. The linear problem of the stability of the quiescent state of a viscous incompressible fluid with an infinite conductivity containing a magnetic field is considered. It is shown by the direct Lyapunov method that the system is unstable if the second variation of the potential energy takes negative values. “A priori· lower and upper estimates of the increase in the perturbations are obtained. The lower estimate ensures an exponential increase in the displacements of the fluid particles and the lines of force of the magnetic field from the equilibrium state. The upper estimate shows that the solutions do not increase more rapidly than exponentially. In both cases, the exponents are calculated using the equilibrium state parameters and the initial data for the perturbation fields.

This paper deals with hydromagnetic flow of an electrically conducting, incompressible viscous fluid near an accelerated flat, non-conducting plate, in the presence of another parallel plate, when there is a transversely applied magnetic field. Induced magnetic field is neglected in comparison with the applied magnetic field. Laplace transform techniques are used. The equations are integrated by applying residue principle, and expressions for velocity profiles and skin-friction at both plates are derived for different values of Hartmann number M. It is observed that, with the increase of the value of the Hartmann number M, the velocity profiles are flattened, the shear stress at the stationary plate decreases, as the value of the time T and Hartmann number M increases, but the shear stress at the accelerated plate increases directly in proportion with the increase in time and Hartmann number.  相似文献

The combined effects of stratification and magnetic field on the unsteady motion of a viscous, electrically conducting fluid between two rotating disks are analysed. Solutions are obtained for the linearized equations under Boussinesq approximation and steady state solutions are deduced from them. The results are compared with those obtained by Loper and Benton and Balanet al. Graphs are presented for the steady state velocity, magnetic field and temperature distributions.  相似文献
