The dependence of the winding number on the initial value and on the nonlinearity for the supercritical sine circle map is discussed. Analytical investigations and numerical results show that some scaling behavior for the winding number can be extracted.  相似文献

An exact renormalization group transformation is developed for dissipative systems which describes how the transition to chaos may occur in a continuous and universal manner if the frequency ratio in the quasi-periodic regime is held at a fixed irrational value. Our approach is a natural extension of K.A.M. theory to strong coupling. Most of our analysis is for analytic circle maps. We have found a strong coupling fixed point where invertibility is lost, which describes the universal features of the transition to chaos. We find numerically that any two such critical maps with the same winding number are C1 conjugate. It follows that the low frequency peaks in an experimental spectrum are universal and we determine how their envelope scales with frequency.When the winding number has a periodic continued fraction, our renormalization transform has a fixed point and spectra are self similar in addition. For a set of non-periodic winding numbers with full measure our renormalization transformation yields an ergodic trajectory in a sub-space of all critical maps. Physically one finds singular and universal spectra that do not scale.  相似文献

This paper considers the circle map at the special point: the one at which there is a trajectory with a golden mean winding number and at which the map just fails to be invertable at one point on the circle. The invariant density of this trajectory has fractal properties. Previous work has suggested that the global behavior of this fractal can be effectively analyzed using a kind of partition function formalism to generate anf versus curve. In this paper the partition function is obtained by using a renormalization group approach.  相似文献

In this paper we study the well-ordered Cantor sets in hyperbolic sets on the line and the plane. Examples of such sets occur in circle maps and in area-preserving twist maps. We set up a renormalization scheme employing in both cases the first return map. We prove convergence of this scheme. The convergence implies that the asymptotic geometry of such a well-ordered set with irrational rotation number and their nearby well-ordered orbits is determined by the Lyapunov exponent of this set.  相似文献

We investigate the behavior of the spectrum of singularities associated with the invariant measure of some dynamical systems under nonsmooth coordinate changes. When the homeomorphic conjugacy is not Lipschitz continuous, we discuss how its singularities can affect the whole set of generalized fractal dimensions. We give applications to homeomorphisms that conjugate critical circle maps with irrational (golden mean) winding numbers. We present numerical studies corroborating the theoretical predictions.  相似文献

We study the distributions of the number of visits for some noteworthy dynamical systems, considering whether limit laws exist by taking domains that shrink around points of the phase space. It is well known that for highly mixing systems such limit distributions exhibit a Poissonian behavior. We analyze instead a skew integrable map defined on a cylinder that models a shear flow. Since almost all fibers are given by irrational rotations, we at first investigate the distributions of the number of visits for irrational rotations on the circle. In this last case the numerical results strongly suggest the existence of limit laws when the shrinking domain is chosen in a descending chain of renormalization intervals. On the other hand, the numerical analysis performed for the skew map shows that limit distributions exist even if we take domains shrinking in an arbitrary way around a point, and these distributions appear to follow a power law decay of which we propose a theoretical explanation. It is interesting to note that we observe a similar behavior for domains wholly contained in the integrable region of the standard map. We also consider the case of two or more systems coupled together, proving that the distributions of the number of visits for domains intersecting the boundary between different regions are a linear superposition of the distributions characteristic of each region. Using this result we show that the real limit distributions can be hidden by some finite-size effects. In particular, when a chaotic and a regular region are glued together, the limit distributions follow a Poisson-like law, but as long as the measure of the shrinking domain is not zero, the polynomial behavior of the regular component dominates for large times. Such an analysis seems helpful to understand the dynamics in the regions where ergodic and regular motions are intertwined, as it may occur for the standard map. Finally, we study the distributions of the number of visits around generic and periodic points of the dissipative Henon map. Although this map is not uniformly hyperbolic, the distributions computed for generic points show a Poissonian behavior, as usually occurs for systems with highly mixing dynamics, whereas for periodic points the distributions follow a different law that is obtained from the statistics of first return times by assuming that subsequent returns are independent. These results are consistent with a possible rapid decay of the correlations for the Henon map.  相似文献

The multiple Devil's staircase, which describes phase-locking behavior, is observed in a discontinuous nonlinear circle map. Phase-locked steps form many towers with similar structure in winding number(W)-parameter(k) space. Each step belongs to a certain period-adding sequence that exists in a smooth curve. The Collision modes that determine steps and the sequence of mode transformations create a variety of tower structures and their particular characteristics. Numerical results suggest a scaling law for the width of phase-locked steps in the period-adding (W=n/(n+i), n,i∈int) sequences, that is, Δk(n)∝n (τ>0). And the study indicates that the multiple Devil's staircase may be common in a class of discontinuous circle maps.  相似文献

The breakup of shearless invariant tori with winding number omega=(11+gamma)(12+gamma) (in continued fraction representation) of the standard nontwist map is studied numerically using Greene's residue criterion. Tori of this winding number can assume the shape of meanders [folded-over invariant tori which are not graphs over the x axis in (x,y) phase space], whose breakup is the first point of focus here. Secondly, multiple shearless orbits of this winding number can exist, leading to a new type of breakup scenario. Results are discussed within the framework of the renormalization group for area-preserving maps. Regularity of the critical tori is also investigated.  相似文献

We prove that twist maps of the cylinder that are attracted by any fixed point of MacKay's renormalization operator have a transitive invariant golden circle, provided the fixed point satisfies a few simple, purely topological conditions. These conditions can be verified by finite-precision arithmetics; they are fulfilled for the simple fixed point and seem to be fulfilled for the critical fixed point. Taking existence and hyperbolicity of the critical fixed point for granted, we conclude that the standard map has a critical invariant golden circle; the induced map on the circle is topologically conjugate to a rigid rotation; we can show that the conjugator is Hölder continuous; moreover, it is not differentiable on a dense set of points.This paper is part of a PhD thesis that is in preparation under the supervision of Oscar E. Letf be a two-dimensional area-preserving twist map. Given an irrational rotation number in the rotation interval off, there is an invariant recurrent set on whichf preserves the circular ordering and which has rotation number . For large nonlinearity, the parameter regime we are interested in, this set is a Cantor set. We show that well-ordered (minimizing) sets with rotation numbers close to are exponentially close to the Cantor set under study. The detailed configuration of well-ordered (minimizing) sets is universal and depends on one parameter, namely the Lyapunov coefficient of the Cantor set. There is a quantitative correspondence between this and similar behavior in the noninvertible circle map.  相似文献

The sensitivity of a wave field's evolution to small perturbations is of fundamental interest. For chaotic systems, there are two distinct regimes of either exponential or Gaussian overlap decay in time. We develop a semiclassical approach for understanding both regimes and give a simple expression for the crossover time between the regimes. The wave field's evolution is considerably more stable than the exponential instability of chaotic trajectories seems to suggest. The resolution of this paradox lies in the collective behavior of the appropriate set of trajectories. Results are given for the standard map.  相似文献

According to the theory of Schröder and Siegel, certain complex analytic maps possess a family of closed invariant curves in the complex plane. We have made a numerical study of these curves by iterating the map, and have found that the largest curve is a fractal. When the winding number of the map is the golden mean, the fractal curve has universal scaling properties, and the scaling parameter differs from those found for other types of maps. Also, for this winding number, there are universal scaling functions which describe the behaviour asn→∞ of theQ n th iterates of the map, whereQ n is then th Fibonacci number.  相似文献

A circle is divided into two regions, a black one and a white one. Successive iterates of an invertible nonlinear circle map generate a symbolic string indicating whether each iterate is in the black or white region. A number of remarkable properties of the symbolic sequences are described. These properties were previously described for a linear circle map corresponding to a rigid rotation in the “gaps and steps” problem. These results have direct application to a cardiac arrhythmia, parasystole, that results from the competition between two pacemakers in the heart, one in the sinus mode and the other in the ventricles. The theoretical results are directly applicable to a clinical case of a young man who had frequent extra heartbeats.  相似文献

We show that limits for the critical exponent tending to ∞ exist in both critical circle homeomorphism of golden mean rotation number and Fibonacci circle coverings. Moreover, they are the same.
