An internal crack located within a functionally graded material (FGM) strip bonded with two dissimilar half-planes and under an anti-plane load is considered. The crack is oriented in an arbitrary direction. The material properties of strip are assumed to vary exponentially in the thickness direction and two half-planes are assumed to be isotropic. Governing differential equations are derived and to reduce the difficulty of the problem dealing with solution of a system of singular integral equations Fourier integral transform is employed. Semi closed form solution for the stress distribution in the medium is obtained and mode III stress intensity factor (SIF), at the crack tip is calculated and its validity was verified. Finally, the effects of nonhomogeneous material parameter and crack orientation on the stress intensity factor are studied.  相似文献

The problem of an anti-plane Griffith crack moving along the interface of dissimilar piezoelectric materials is solved by using the integral transform technique. It is shown from the result that the intensity factors of anti-plane stress and electric displacement around the crack tip are dependent on the speed of the Griffith crack as well as the material coefficients. When the two piezoelectric materials are identical, the present result will be reduced to the result for the problem of an anti-plane moving Griffith crack in homogeneous piezoelectric materials. The electroelastic analysis of two bonded dissimilar piezoelectric ceramics with a crack perpendicular to and terminating at the interface is made. By using Fourier integral transform, the associated boundary value problem is reduced to a singular integral equation with generalized Cauchy kernel, the solution of which is given in closed form. Results are presented for a permeable crack under anti-plane shear loading and in-plane electric loading. Obtained results indicate that the electroelastic field near the crack tip in the homogeneous piezoelectric ceramic is dominated by a traditional inverse square-root singularity, while the electroelastic field near the crack tip at the interface exhibits the singularity of power law rα, r being distance from the interface crack tip and α depending on the material constants of a bi-piezoceramic. In particular, electric field has no singularity at the crack tip in a homogeneous solid, whereas it is singular around the interface crack tip. Numerical results are given graphically to show the effects of the material properties on the singularity order and field intensity factors.  相似文献

The antiplane stress analysis of two anisotropic finite wedges with arbitrary radii and apex angles that are bonded together along a common edge is investigated. The wedge radial boundaries can be subjected to displacement-displacement boundary condi- tions, and the circular boundary of the wedge is free from any traction. The new finite complex transforms are employed to solve the problem. These finite complex transforms have complex analogies to both kinds of standard finite Mellin transforms. The traction free condition on the crack faces is expressed as a singular integral equation by using the exact analytical method. The explicit terms for the strength of singularity are extracted, showing the dependence of the order of the stress singularity on the wedge angle, material constants, and boundary conditions. A numerical method is used for solving the resul- tant singular integral equations. The displacement boundary condition may be a general term of the Taylor series expansion for the displacement prescribed on the radial edge of the wedge. Thus, the analysis of every kind of displacement boundary conditions can be obtained by the achieved results from the foregoing general displacement boundary condition. The obtained stress intensity factors (SIFs) at the crack tips are plotted and compared with those obtained by the finite element analysis (FEA).  相似文献

The asymptotic problem of a kinked interfacial crack in dissimilar anisotropic materials under antiplane deformation is investigated. The linear transformation method for the problem of the anisotropic bimaterial with a straight interface is proposed. The stress intensity factor for the kinked interfacial crack in the anisotropic composite is obtained from the solution of the transformed problem of the kinked interfacial crack in the isotropic bimaterial based on the linear transformation method. The effects of the material parameters as well as the kink angle on the stress intensity factor are discussed from numerical results of the stress intensity factor. The finite element analysis is carried out to verify the stress intensity factor obtained by using the linear transformation. The influence of the material orientations on the stress intensity factor is investigated for the kinked crack in the bimaterial consisting of dissimilar inclined orthotropic materials.  相似文献

Summary  The problem of an interface edge crack between two bonded quarter-planes of dissimilar piezoelectric materials is considered under the conditions of anti-plane shear and in-plane electric loading. The crack surfaces are assumed to be impermeable to the electric field. An integral transform technique is employed to reduce the problem under consideration to dual integral equations. By solving the resulting dual integral equations, the intensity factors of the stress and the electric displacement and the energy release rate as well as the crack sliding displacement and the electric voltage across the crack surfaces are obtained in explicit form for the case of concentrated forces and free charges at the crack surfaces and at the boundary. The derived results can be taken as fundamental solutions which can be superposed to model more realistic problems. Received 10 November 2000; accepted for publication 28 March 2001  相似文献

The problem of an antiplane crack situated in the interface of two bonded dissimilar graded piezoelectric half-spaces is considered under the permeable crack assumption. The mechanical and electrical properties of the half-spaces are considered for a class of functional forms for which the equilibrium equation has analytic solutions. By using an integral transform technique, the problem is reduced to dual integral equations which are transformed into a Fredholm integral equation by introducing an auxiliary function. The stress intensity factors are obtained in explicit form in terms of auxiliary functions. By solving the Fredholm integral equation numerically, the numerical results for stress intensity factors are obtained which have been displayed graphically to show the influence of the graded piezoelectric materials.  相似文献

An interface crack or delamination may often branch out of the interface in a laminated composite due to thermal stresses developing around the delamination/crack tip when the media is exposed to heat flow induced by environmental events such as a sudden short-duration fire. In this paper, the thermo-elastic problem of interface crack branching in dissimilar anisotropic bi-media is studied by using the theory of Stroh’s dislocation formalism, extended to thermo-elasticity in matrix notation. Based on the complex variable method and the analytical continuation principle, the thermo-elastic interface crack/delamination problem is examined and a general solution in compact form is derived for dissimilar anisotropic bi-media. A set of Green’s functions is proposed for the dislocations (conventional dislocation and thermal dislocation/heat vortex) in anisotropic bi-media. These functions may be more suitable than those which have appeared in the literature on addressing thermo-elastic interface crack branching in dissimilar anisotropic bi-materials. Using the contour integral method, a closed form solution to the interaction between the dislocations and the interface crack is obtained. Within the scope of linear fracture mechanics, the thermo-elastic problem of interface crack branching is then solved by modelling the branched portion as a continuous distribution of dislocations. The influence of thermal loading and thermal properties on the branching behavior is examined, and criteria for predicting interface crack branching are suggested, based on the extensive numerical results from the study of various cases.  相似文献

Anti-plane shear crack in a functionally gradient piezoelectric material   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
The main objective of this paper is to study the singular nature of the crack-tip stress and electric displacement field in a functionally gradient piezoelectric medium having material coefficients with a discontinuous derivative. The problem is considered for the simplest possible loading and geometry, namely, the anti-plane shear stress and electric displacement in-plane of two bonded half spaces in which the crack is parallel to the interface. It is shown that the square-root singularity of the crack-tip stress field and electric displacement field is unaffected by the discontinuity in the derivative of the material coefficients. The problem is solved for the case of a finite crack and extensive results are given for the stress intensity factors, electric displacement intensity factors, and the energy release rate. Debonded region of an interface between two dissimilar materials are modeled as a line crack that tends to enhance the initiation of failure by fracture. Depending on the load that interacts with dissimilar materials, no a priori knowledge of how failure would initiate from an existing interface crack is assumed. By application of the strain energy density criterion, potential crack initiation sites are obtained for different biaxial loading states and materials with dissimilar properties.Numerical results are obtained for an epoxy/aluminum medium. In each case, a finite line segment of debonding is assumed. Uniform stresses are applied normal and parallel to the interface so that a biaxial load factor k determines the relative magnitude of biaxiality. Positive and negative k correspond, respectively, to applied tension and compression parallel to the interface. For a fixed ratio of the elastic moduli, crack initiation angles measured from the interface would increase with positive k and decrease with an increase of negative k. These findings are presented for different values of k. The direction of maximum yield initiation could also be determined from the stationary values of the strain density function. These locations are identified with elements that undergo excessive distortion while the possible fracture sites are assumed to coincide with regions where dilatational effects would dominate.  相似文献

Bueckner‘s work conjugate integral customarily adopted for linear elastic materials is established for an interface crack in dissimilar anisotropic materials. The difficulties in separating Stroh‘s six complex arguments involved in the integral for the dissimilar materials are overcome and then the explicit function representations of the integral are given and studied in detail. It is found that the pseudo-orthogonal properties of the eigenfunction expansion form (EEF) for a crack presented previously in isotropic elastic cases, in isotopic bimaterial cases, and in orthotropic cases are also valid in the present dissimilar arbitrary anisotropic cases. The relation between Bueckner‘s work conjugate integral and the J-integral in these cases is obtained by introducing a complementary stressdisplacement state. Finally, some useful path-independent integrals and weight functions are proposed for calculating the crack tip parameters such as the stress intensity factors.  相似文献

In this paper, the interface crack problems of a multilayered anisotropic medium under a state of generalized plane deformation are considered within the framework of anisotropic theory. A general solution procedure is introduced such that it can be uniformly applied to media with transversely isotropic, orthotropic, monoclinic, etc. layers. The problem is reduced to the solution of a system of singular integral equations by means of Fourier transform method and the stiffness matrix formulation. A Jacobi polynomial technique is then used to solve the integral equations numerically. The stress intensity factors are provided. The stress intensity factors have been calculated numerically and displayed graphically.  相似文献

Summary  This paper is concerned with a semi-infinite interfacial crack between two bonded dissimilar elastic strips with equal thickness. Solutions for the complex stress intensity factor (SIF) and energy release rate (ERR) are obtained in closed form under in-plane deformations. During the procedure, the mixed boundary-value problem is reduced by means of the conformal mapping technique to the standard Riemann–Hilbert problem. In some limiting cases, the present solutions can cover the results found in literature. The propagation of non-linear elastic anti-plane shear waves in a unidirectional fibre-reinforced composite material is studied. A model of structural non-linearity is considered, for which the non-linear behaviour of the composite solid is caused by imperfect bonding at the “fibre–matrix” interface. A macroscopic wave equation accounting for the effects of non-linearity and dispersion is derived using the higher-order asymptotic homogenisation method. Explicit analytical solutions for stationary non-linear strain waves are obtained. This type of non-linearity has a crucial influence on the wave propagation mode: for soft non-linearity, localised shock (kink) waves are developed, while for hard non-linearity localised bell-shaped waves appear. Numerical results are presented and the areas of practical applicability of linear and non-linear, long- and short-wave approaches are discussed.  相似文献

The theory of linear piezoelectricity is applied to develop an anti-plane crack growth rate equation of a finite crack in a piezoelectric ceramic body with finite width. Plastic zone is assumed to be confined to a sheet ahead of both crack edges similar to the strip model for in-plane loading. The procedure consists of reducing a system of dual integral equations to a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. The accumulated plastic displacement criterion is used for developing a solution for the crack growth rate. Numerical values of crack growth rate are obtained and the results are displayed graphically to exhibit the electroelastic interactions.  相似文献

The two-dimensional thermoelastic crack problem in bonded dissimilar media or in a half-plane medium is considered. The proposed method for solving this problem consists of two parts. In the first part, complex potential functions are derived which are enforced to satisfy the continuity conditions across the interface, while the second part consists of the derivation of singular integral equations by introducing the dislocation functions along the crack border which are solved numerically. For both half-plane and two bonded half-plane problems associated with an insulated crack, the thermal stress intensity factors are computed numerically by using the appropriate interpolation formulae. The results compared with those of the homogeneous case given in the literature show that the method proposed here is effective, simple and general.  相似文献
