This paper introduces tensorial calculus techniques in the framework of POD to reduce the computational complexity of the reduced nonlinear terms. The resulting method, named tensorial POD, can be applied to polynomial nonlinearities of any degree p. Such nonlinear terms have an online complexity of , where k is the dimension of POD basis and therefore is independent of full space dimension. However, it is efficient only for quadratic nonlinear terms because for higher nonlinearities, POD model proves to be less time consuming once the POD basis dimension k is increased. Numerical experiments are carried out with a two‐dimensional SWE test problem to compare the performance of tensorial POD, POD, and POD/discrete empirical interpolation method (DEIM). Numerical results show that tensorial POD decreases by 76× the computational cost of the online stage of POD model for configurations using more than 300,000 model variables. The tensorial POD SWE model was only 2 to 8× slower than the POD/DEIM SWE model but the implementation effort is considerably increased. Tensorial calculus was again employed to construct a new algorithm allowing POD/DEIM SWE model to compute its offline stage faster than POD and tensorial POD approaches. The method for computation of stability modes for two‐ and three‐dimensional flows is presented. The method is based on the dynamic mode decomposition of the data resulting from DNS of the flow in the regime close to stable flow (fixed‐point dynamics, small perturbations about steady flow). The proposed approach is demonstrated on the wake flows past a 2D, circular cylinder, and a sphere. The resulting modes resemble the eigenmodes computed conventionally from global stability analysis and are used in model order reduction of the flow. The designed low‐dimensional Galerkin model uses continuous mode interpolation between dynamic mode decomposition mode bases and reproduces the dynamics of Navier–Stokes equations. A nonlinear analytical model for the transverse vibration of cracked magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) thin plate is presented using the classical plate theory (CPT). The MEE plate material selected is fiber-reinforced \(\hbox {BaTiO}_{3}\)\(\hbox {CoFe}_{2}\hbox {O}_{4}\) composite, which contains a partial crack at the center. The CPT and the simplified line spring model for crack terms are modified to accommodate the effect of electric and magnetic field rigidities. The analysis considers in-plane forces for the MEE plate, which makes the model nonlinear. The derived governing equation is solved by expressing the transverse displacement in terms of modal coordinates. An approximate solution for forced vibration of cracked MEE plate is also obtained using a perturbation technique. The effect of part-through crack, volume fraction of the composite on the vibration frequencies and structure response is investigated. The frequency response curves presented shows the phenomenon of hard or soft spring. Furthermore, the devised model is extended to the case of cracked MEE plate submerged in fluid. Velocity potential function and Bernoulli’s equation are used to incorporate the inertia effect of surrounding fluid. Both partially and totally submerged plate configurations are considered. The validation of the present results is carried out for intact submerged plate as to the best of the author’s knowledge the literature lacks in results for submerged-cracked plates. New results for cracked MEE plate show that the vibration characteristics are affected by volume fraction, crack length, fluid level and depth of immersion.  相似文献

Unified 2D continuum formulation of the nonlinear dynamic problem for a von Kármán shear indeformable symmetric cross-ply composite plate in a thermomechanical environment is presented, along with the ensuing reduction procedure ending up to a three-mode discretized model with unknown transverse displacement and membrane/bending temperatures. Systematic numerical analyses in the case of thermal dynamics passively entrained by the solely active mechanical excitations allow to unveil the main features of the nonlinear response, while highlighting fundamental aspects associated with the thermomechanical coupling. Local and global dynamics of a single-layer orthotropic plate are investigated under varying in-plane/transverse excitations or thermal property of the material. Comparison with the response provided by partially coupled models and the uncoupled mechanical oscillator enables to identify situations in which thermomechanical coupling affects the nonlinear response even in the solely passive thermal setting and to frame the relevant effects within known literature results.  相似文献

The motion of two identical pendulums connected by a linear elastic spring is studied. The pendulums move in a fixed vertical plane in a homogeneous gravity field. The nonlinear problem of orbital stability of such a periodic motion of the pendulums is considered under the assumption that they vibrate in the same direction with the same amplitude. (This is one of the two possible types of nonlinear normal vibrations.) An analytic investigation is performed in the cases of small vibration amplitude or small rigidity of the spring. In a special case where the spring rigidity and the vibration amplitude are arbitrary, the study is carried out numerically. Arbitrary linear and nonlinear vibrations in the case of small rigidity (the case of sympathetic pendulums) were studied earlier [1, 2].  相似文献

The nonlinear vibrations of a composite laminated cantilever rectangular plate subjected to the in-plane and transversal excitations are investigated in this paper. Based on the Reddy??s third-order plate theory and the von Karman type equations for the geometric nonlinearity, the nonlinear partial differential governing equations of motion for the composite laminated cantilever rectangular plate are established by using the Hamilton??s principle. The Galerkin approach is used to transform the nonlinear partial differential governing equations of motion into a two degree-of-freedom nonlinear system under combined parametric and forcing excitations. The case of foundational parametric resonance and 1:1 internal resonance is taken into account. The method of multiple scales is utilized to obtain the four-dimensional averaged equation. The numerical method is used to find the periodic and chaotic motions of the composite laminated cantilever rectangular plate. It is found that the chaotic responses are sensitive to the changing of the forcing excitations and the damping coefficient. The influence of the forcing excitation and the damping coefficient on the bifurcations and chaotic behaviors of the composite laminated cantilever rectangular plate is investigated numerically. The frequency-response curves of the first-order and the second-order modes show that there exists the soft-spring type characteristic for the first-order and the second-order modes.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose an finite element approach based on classical plate theory to investigate the dynamic stability of a layered composite plate subject to nonlinear aerodynamic load. This study considers the influence of temperature, nonlinear geometry, and nonlinear aerodynamic load on composite plate structures simultaneously. Specifically, the present work conduct comparison the results of the critical pressure value between the nonlinear aerodynamic load and the linear aerodynamic load, thereby pointing out some necessary cases which must consider the nonlinearity of aerodynamic load for calculating the aerospace structures. We determine the critical pressure value and vibrational amplitude response of the plate by means of calculation. The outcomes of our calculations can be useful in designing and repairing body shells and wings of aircraft equipment.  相似文献

This paper presents the analysis on the nonlinear dynamics of a deploying orthotropic composite laminated cantilever rectangular plate subjected to the aerodynamic pressures and the in-plane harmonic excitation. The third-order nonlinear piston theory is employed to model the transverse air pressures. Based on Reddy’s third-order shear deformation plate theory and Hamilton’s principle, the nonlinear governing equations of motion are derived for the deploying composite laminated cantilever rectangular plate. The Galerkin method is utilized to discretize the partial differential governing equations to a two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system. The two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system is numerically studied to analyze the stability and nonlinear vibrations of the deploying composite laminated cantilever rectangular plate with the change of the realistic parameters. The influences of different parameters on the stability of the deploying composite laminated cantilever rectangular plate are analyzed. The numerical results show that the deploying velocity and damping coefficient have great effects on the amplitudes of the nonlinear vibrations, which may lead to the jumping phenomenon of the amplitudes for first-order and second-order modes. The increase of the damping coefficient can suppress the increase of the amplitudes of the nonlinear vibration.  相似文献

This paper examines the modeling and solution of large-order nonlinear systems with continuous nonlinearities which are spatially localized. This localization is exploited by a combined component mode synthesis (CMS)—dynamic substructuring approach for efficient model reduction. A new ordering method for the Fourier coefficients used in the Harmonic Balance Method (HBM) is proposed. This allows the calculation of the slave dynamic flexibility matrix, using simple analytical expressions thus saving considerable computational effort by avoiding inverse calculation. This procedure is also capable of handling proportional damping. A hypersphere-based continuation technique is used to trace the solution, and hence track bifurcations since it has the advantage that the augmented Jacobian matrix remains square. The reduced system is also solved using a time-variational method (TVM) which generates sparse Jacobian matrices when compared with HBM. Several systems including those with parametric excitation and internal resonances are solved to demonstrate the capability of the proposed schemes. A comparison of these techniques and their effectiveness in solving extremely strong nonlinear systems with continuous nonlinearities is discussed.  相似文献

This paper investigates the multi-pulse global bifurcations and chaotic dynamics of the high-dimension nonlinear system for a laminated composite piezoelectric rectangular plate by using an extended Melnikov method in the resonant case. Using the von Karman type equations, Reddy’s third-order shear deformation plate theory and Hamilton’s principle, the equations of motion are derived for the laminated composite piezoelectric rectangular plate with combined parametric excitations and transverse excitation. Applying the method of multiple scales and Galerkin’s approach to the partial differential governing equation, the four-dimensional averaged equation is obtained for the case of 1:2 internal resonance and primary parametric resonance. From the averaged equations obtained, the theory of normal form is used to derive the explicit expressions of normal form with a double zero and a pair of pure imaginary eigenvalues. Based on the explicit expressions of normal form, the extended Melnikov method is used for the first time to investigate the Shilnikov type multi-pulse homoclinic bifurcations and chaotic dynamics of the laminated composite piezoelectric rectangular plate. The necessary conditions of the existence for the Shilnikov type multi-pulse chaotic dynamics of the laminated composite piezoelectric rectangular plate are analytically obtained. Numerical simulations also illustrate that the Shilnikov type multi-pulse chaotic motions can also occur in the laminated composite piezoelectric rectangular plate. Overall, both theoretical and numerical studies demonstrate that the chaos in the Smale horseshoe sense exists for the laminated composite piezoelectric rectangular plate.  相似文献

Moving from a general plate theory, a modified general shear deformable laminated plate theory (MGFSDT) exhibiting nonlinear curvatures but still allowing for some worth features of linear curvature models (von Karman) is formulated. Starting from MGFSDT partial differential equations, a minimal discretized model (Duffing equation) for symmetric cross-ply laminates nonlinear vibrations, whose coefficients account for shear deformability and nonlinear curvatures, is obtained via the Galerkin procedure. The variable features of such a Duffing model as obtainable via alternative kinematic assumptions at the continuum level are highlighted. Through the comparison of a number of underlying models in different technical situations, information on the influence of shear deformability on system nonlinear response and on the influence of nonlinear curvatures are obtained. Frequency–response curves through a multiple scale analysis are presented for different continuous models, kinds of material, mode numbers and boundary conditions.  相似文献

The geometrically nonlinear periodic vibrations of beams with rectangular cross section under harmonic forces are investigated using a p-version finite element method. The beams vibrate in space; hence they experience longitudinal, torsional, and nonplanar bending deformations. The model is based on Timoshenko’s theory for bending and assumes that, under torsion, the cross section rotates as a rigid body and is free to warp in the longitudinal direction, as in Saint-Venant’s theory. The theory employed is valid for moderate rotations and displacements, and physical phenomena like internal resonances and change of the stability of the solutions can be investigated. Green’s nonlinear strain tensor and Hooke’s law are considered and isotropic and elastic beams are investigated. The equation of motion is derived by the principle of virtual work. The differential equations of motion are converted into a nonlinear algebraic form employing the harmonic balance method, and then solved by the arc-length continuation method. The variation of the amplitude of vibration in space with the excitation frequency of vibration is determined and presented in the form of response curves. The stability of the solution is investigated by Floquet’s theory.  相似文献

Global bifurcations and multi-pulse chaotic dynamics are studied for a four-edge simply supported composite laminated piezoelectric rectangular plate under combined in-plane, transverse, and dynamic electrical excitations. Based on the von Karman type equations for the geometric nonlinearity and Reddy’s third-order shear deformation theory, the governing equations of motion for a composite laminated piezoelectric rectangular plate are derived. The Galerkin method is employed to discretize the partial differential equations of motion to a three-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system. The six-dimensional non-autonomous nonlinear system is simplified to a three-order standard form by using the method of normal form. The extended Melnikov method is improved to investigate the six-dimensional non-autonomous nonlinear dynamical system in mixed coordinate. The global bifurcations and multi-pulse chaotic dynamics of the composite laminated piezoelectric rectangular plate are studied by using the improved extended Melnikov method. The multi-pulse chaotic motions of the system are found by using numerical simulation, which further verifies the result of theoretical analysis.  相似文献

This paper derives nonlinear plate equations for electroelastic crystals using both power series and trigonometric expansions of the three-dimensional equations. Unlike existing theories, material nonlinearities are included to cubic order in the gradients of the field variables, which allows Duffing behavior to be properly modeled. Moreover, inconsistencies in existing nonlinear power series expansions are revealed, and a consistent expansion is given. Next, a Galerkin truncation is applied to the variational formulation of the plate equations to give a very general reduced-order model of its dynamics near primary resonance. By comparison with the Galerkin discretization of the exact equations, nonlinear correction factors are derived for both power series and trigonometric expansions. Numerical continuation of the resulting nonlinear ODEs demonstrates the effect of lateral eigenmodes on the Duffing behavior of the frequency response. Both power series and trigonometric expansions produce results in close agreement. In the limit of purely thickness vibrations, the nonlinear plate equations reduce to the Galerkin truncation of the exact equations.

Using Reddy’s high-order shear theory for laminated plates and Hamilton’s principle, a nonlinear partial differential equation for the dynamics of a deploying cantilevered piezoelectric laminated composite plate, under the combined action of aerodynamic load and piezoelectric excitation, is introduced. Two-degree of freedom (DOF) nonlinear dynamic models for the time-varying coefficients describing the transverse vibration of the deploying laminate under the combined actions of a first-order aerodynamic force and piezoelectric excitation were obtained by selecting a suitable time-dependent modal function satisfying the displacement boundary conditions and applying second-order discretization using the Galerkin method. Using a numerical method, the time history curves of the deploying laminate were obtained, and its nonlinear dynamic characteristics, including extension speed and different piezoelectric excitations, were studied. The results suggest that the piezoelectric excitation has a clear effect on the change of the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of such piezoelectric laminated composite plates. The nonlinear vibration of the deploying cantilevered laminate can be effectively suppressed by choosing a suitable voltage and polarity.  相似文献
