A subset A of a metric space X is said to be a nonexpansive proximinal retract (NPR) of X if the metric projection from X to A admits a nonexpansive selection. We study the structure of NPR's in the space C(K) of continuous functions on a compact Hausdorff space K. The main results are a characterization of finite-codimensional and of finite-dimensional NPR subspaces of C(K) and a complete characterization of all NPR subsets of .  相似文献

In this note, we analyze the relationship between the lower semicontinuity of the feasible set mapping for linear semi-infinite inequality systems and the so-called topological stability, which is held when the solution sets of all the systems obtained by sufficiently small perturbations of the data are homeomorphic to each other. This topological stability and its relation with the Mangasarian-Fromovitz constraints qualification have been studied deeply by Jongen et al. in Ref. 1. The main difference of our approach is that we are not assuming any kind of structure for the index set and, consequently, any particular property for the functional dependence between the inequalities and the associated indices. An algorithm is presented which locates the global minimum or maximum of a function satisfying a Lipschitz condition. The algorithm uses lower bound functions defined on a partitioned domain to generate a sequence of lower bounds for the global minimum. A domain partitioning algorithm for minimizing or maximizing a Lipschitz continuous function is enhanced to yield two new, more efficient algorithms. The use of interval arithmetic in the case of rational functions and the estimates of Lipschitz constants valid in subsets of the domain in the case of others and the addition of local optimization have resulted in an algorithm which, in tests on standard functions, performs well.  相似文献

Recently linear lower bounding functions (LLBF's) were proposed and used to find -global minima. Basically an LLBF over an interval is a linear function which lies below a given function over the interval and matches the function value at one end point. By comparing it with the best function value found, it can be used to eliminate subregions which do not contain -global minima. To develop a more efficient LLBF algorithm, two important issues need to be addressed: how to construct a better LLBF and how to use it efficiently. In this paper, an improved LLBF for factorable functions overn-dimensional boxes is derived, in the sense that the new LLBF is always better than those in [3] for continuously differentiable functions. Exploration of the properties of the LLBF enables us to develop a new LLBF-based univariate global optimization algorithm, which is again better than those in [3]. We consider a class of Lipschitz vector fields whose values lie in a suitable cone and we show that the trajectories of the system x′=S(x) admit a parametrization that is invertible and Lipschitz with its inverse. As a consequence, every v in W1,1(Ω) admits a representative that is absolutely continuous on almost every trajectory of x′=S(x). We study the common linear copositive Lyapunov functions of positive linear systems. Firstly, we present a theorem on pairs of second order positive linear systems, and give another proof of this theorem by means of properties of geometry. Based on the process of the proof, we extended the results to a finite number of second order positive linear systems. Then we extend this result to third order systems. We investigate microlocal properties of partial differential operators with generalized functions as coefficients. The main result is an extension of a corresponding (microlocalized) distribution theoretic result on operators with smooth hypoelliptic symbols. Methodological novelties and technical refinements appear embedded into classical strategies of proof in order to cope with most delicate interferences by non-smooth lower order terms. We include simplified conditions which are applicable in special cases of interest.

Type numbers of critical points for Lipschitz functionals are studied. Versions of the Morse inequalities are established; it is shown that the topological index of an isolated critical point is equal to the alternated sum of its type numbers.
