LetAP + (R n ) denote the Banach algebra of all continuous almost periodic functions onR n whose Bohr-Fourier spectrum is contained in an additive semi-group [0, ) n . We show that the maximal ideal space ofAP + (R n ) may have a nonempty corona and we characterize all for which the corona is empty. We show that a continuous additive positively homogeneous map from a closed not necessarily proper cone in a Banach space onto a Banach space is an open map precisely when it is surjective. This generalization of the usual Open Mapping Theorem for Banach spaces is then combined with Michael's Selection Theorem to yield the existence of a continuous bounded positively homogeneous right inverse of such a surjective map; a strong version of the usual Open Mapping Theorem is then a special case. As another consequence, an improved version of the analogue of Andô's Theorem for an ordered Banach space is obtained for a Banach space that is, more generally than in Andô's Theorem, a sum of possibly uncountably many closed not necessarily proper cones. Applications are given for a (pre)-ordered Banach space and for various spaces of continuous functions taking values in such a Banach space or, more generally, taking values in an arbitrary Banach space that is a finite sum of closed not necessarily proper cones.  相似文献

We show that a sequentially (τ)-complete topological vector lattice Xτ is isomorphic to some L1(μ), if and only if the positive cone can be written as X+ = +B for some convex, (τ)-bounded, and (τ)-closed set B X+ {0}. The same result holds under weaker hypotheses, namely the Riesz decomposition property for X (not assumed to be a vector lattice) and the monotonic σ-completeness (monotonic Cauchy sequences converge). The isometric part of the main result implies the well-known representation theorem of Kakutani for (AL)-spaces. As an application we show that on a normed space Y of infinite dimension, the “ball-generated” ordering induced by the cone Y+ = + (for u >) cannot have the Riesz decomposition property. A second application deals with a pointwise ordering on a space of multivariate polynomials.  相似文献

As a development of the theory of linear error bounds for lower semicontinuous functions defined on complete metric spaces, introduced in Azé et al. (Nonlinear Anal 49, 643–670, 2002) and refined in Azé and Corvellec (ESAIM Control Optim Calc Var 10, 409–425, 2004), we propose a similar approach to nonlinear error bounds, based on the notion of strong slope, the variational principle, and the change-of-metric principle, the latter allowing to obtain sharp estimates for such error bounds through a reduction to the linear case.  相似文献

The closed graph theorem is one of the cornerstones of linear functional analysis in Fréchet spaces, and the extension of this result to more general topological vector spaces is a di?cult problem comprising a great deal of technical difficulty. However, the theory of convergence vector spaces provides a natural framework for closed graph theorems. In this paper we use techniques from convergence vector space theory to prove a version of the closed graph theorem for order bounded operators on Archimedean vector lattices. This illustrates the usefulness of convergence spaces in dealing with problems in vector lattice theory, problems that may fail to be amenable to the usual Hausdorff-Kuratowski-Bourbaki concept of topology.  相似文献

Let Σ be the set of functions, convergent for all |z|>1, with a Laurent series of the form f(z)=z+∑n?0anz-n. In this paper, we prove that the set of Faber polynomial sequences over Σ and the set of their normalized kth derivative sequences form groups which are isomorphic to the hitting time subgroup and the Bell(k) subgroup of the Riordan group, respectively. Suppose that X is a topological space with preorder , and that –g, f are bounded upper semicontinuous functions on X such that g(x) f(y) whenever x y. We consider the question whether there exists a bounded increasing continuous function h on X such that g h f, and obtain an existence theorem that gives necessary and sufficient conditions. This result leads to an extension theorem giving conditions that allow a bounded increasing continuous function defined on an open subset of X to be extended to a function of the same type on X. It is shown how a set of canonical variables in the sense of Rund [5] can be associated with a given extremal of a multiple integral variational problem in a simple, direct manner. The definition of these variables in a previous paper [1], which is concerned with the problem of imbedding a given extremal in anr-geodesic field, is thereby clarified and abbreviated considerably. A theorem due essentially to Boerner, which is crucial to the imbedding theorem given in [1], is proved more easily and under less restrictive hypotheses than in [1]. Furthermore, it is shown how the present definition of the canonical variables allows one to eliminate from the geodesic field theory of Carathéodory the restriction that the Lagrangian be non-vanishing along the extremal.  相似文献
