The focus of this article is on conditional stability estimates for ill-posed inverse problems in partial differential equations. Conditional stability estimates have been obtained in related literature by a couple different methods. In this article, we propose a method called interpolation method, which is based on interpolation in variable Hilbert scales. We provide the theoretical background of this method and show that optimal conditional stability estimates are obtained. The capabilities of our method are illustrated by a comprehensive collection of different inverse and ill-posed PDE problems containing elliptic and parabolic problems, one source problem and the problem of analytic continuation.  相似文献

A non-overlapping domain decomposition algorithm of the Neumann–Neumann type for solving contact problems of elasticity is presented. Using the duality theory of convex programming, the discretized problem turns into a quadratic one with equality and bound constraints. The dual problem is modified by orthogonal projectors to the natural coarse space. The resulting problem is solved by an augmented Lagrangian algorithm. The projectors ensure an optimal convergence rate for the solution of the auxiliary linear problems by the preconditioned conjugate gradient method. Relevant aspects on the numerical linear algebra of these problems are presented, together with an efficient parallel implementation of the method.  相似文献

List partitions generalize list colourings. Sandwich problems generalize recognition problems. The polynomial dichotomy (NP-complete versus polynomial) of list partition problems is solved for 4-dimensional partitions with the exception of one problem (the list stubborn problem) for which the complexity is known to be quasipolynomial. Every partition problem for 4 nonempty parts and only external constraints is known to be polynomial with the exception of one problem (the 2K2-partition problem) for which the complexity of the corresponding list problem is known to be NP-complete. The present paper considers external constraint 4 nonempty part sandwich problems. We extend the tools developed for polynomial solutions of recognition problems obtaining polynomial solutions for most corresponding sandwich versions. We extend the tools developed for NP-complete reductions of sandwich partition problems obtaining the classification into NP-complete for some external constraint 4 nonempty part sandwich problems. On the other hand and additionally, we propose a general strategy for defining polynomial reductions from the 2K2-partition problem to several external constraint 4 nonempty part sandwich problems, defining a class of 2K2-hard problems. Finally, we discuss the complexity of the Skew Partition Sandwich Problem.  相似文献

This paper deals with optimal control problems described by higher index DAEs. We introduce a class of these problems which can be transformed to index one control problems. For this class of higher index DAEs, we derive first-order approximations and adjoint equations for the functionals defining the problem. These adjoint equations are then used to state, in the accompanying paper, the necessary optimality conditions in the form of a weak maximum principle. The constructive way used to prove these optimality conditions leads to globally convergent algorithms for control problems with state constraints and defined by higher index DAEs.  相似文献

We study continuous partitioning problems on tree network spaces whose edges and nodes are points in Euclidean spaces. A continuous partition of this space into p connected components is a collection of p subtrees, such that no pair of them intersect at more than one point, and their union is the tree space. An edge-partition is a continuous partition defined by selecting p−1 cut points along the edges of the underlying tree, which is assumed to have n nodes. These cut points induce a partition into p subtrees (connected components). The objective is to minimize (maximize) the maximum (minimum) “size” of the components (the min–max (max–min) problem). When the size is the length of a subtree, the min–max and the max–min partitioning problems are NP-hard. We present O(n2 log(min(p,n))) algorithms for the edge-partitioning versions of the problem. When the size is the diameter, the min–max problems coincide with the continuous p-center problem. We describe O(n log3 n) and O(n log2 n) algorithms for the max–min partitioning and edge-partitioning problems, respectively, where the size is the diameter of a component.  相似文献

Explicit formulas exist for the (n,m) rational function with monic numerator and prescribed poles that has the smallest possible Chebyshev norm. In this paper we derive two different eigenvalue problems to obtain the zeros of this extremal function. The first one is an ordinary tridiagonal eigenvalue problem based on a representation in terms of Chebyshev polynomials. The second is a generalised tridiagonal eigenvalue problem which we derive using a connection with orthogonal rational functions. In the polynomial case (m = 0) both problems reduce to the tridiagonal eigenvalue problem associated with the Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind. Postdoctoral researcher FWO-Flanders.  相似文献

This paper considers duality in convex vector optimization. A vector optimization problem requires one to find all the efficient points of the attainable value set for given multiple objective functions. Embedding the primal problem into a family of perturbed problems enables one to define a dual problem in terms of the conjugate map of the perturbed objective function. Every solution of the stable primal problem is associated with a certain solution of the dual problem, which is characterized as a subgradient of the perturbed efficient value map. This pair of solutions also provides a saddle point of the Lagrangian map.  相似文献

We study budgeted variants of classical cut problems: the Multiway Cut problem, the Multicut problem, and the k-Cut problem, and provide approximation algorithms for these problems. Specifically, for the budgeted multiway cut and the k-cut problems we provide constant factor approximation algorithms. We show that the budgeted multicut problem is at least as hard to approximate as the sparsest cut problem, and we provide a bi-criteria approximation algorithm for it.  相似文献

This paper deals with optimal control problems described by higher index DAEs. We introduce a class of problems which can be transformed to index one control problems. For these problems we show in the accompanying paper that, if the solutions to the adjoint equations are well–defined, then the first-order approximations to the functionals defining the problem can be expressed in terms of the adjoint variables. In this paper we show that the solutions to the adjoint equations are essentially bounded measurable functions. Then, based on the first order approximations, we derive the necessary optimality conditions for the considered class of control problems. These conditions do not require the transformation of the DAEs to index-one system; however, higher-index DAEs and their associated adjoint equations have to be solved.  相似文献

We define a new class of optimal control problems and show that this class is the largest one of control problems where every admissible process that satisfies the Extended Pontryaguin Maximum Principle is an optimal solution of nonregular optimal control problems. In this class of problems the local and global minimum coincide. A dual problem is also proposed, which may be seen as a generalization of the Mond–Weir-type dual problem, and it is shown that the 2-invexity notion is a necessary and su?cient condition to establish weak, strong, and converse duality results between a nonregular optimal control problem and its dual problem. Land rental problems describe situations where one tenant demands land from several lessors. The way lessors rent their land can be seen as equivalent to a bankruptcy problem. We extend the idea of self-duality in bankruptcy problems to land rental problems. We provide a complete characterization of the family of rules that satisfy self-duality. Moreover, self-duality is enough to assure the proportional land share among lessors. Adding other reasonable properties, we pick up a single rule.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a multi-dimensional inverse heat conduction problem with time-dependent coefficients in a box, which is well-known to be severely ill-posed, by a variational method. The gradient of the functional to be minimized is obtained by the aid of an adjoint problem, and the conjugate gradient method with a stopping rule is then applied to this ill-posed optimization problem. To enhance the stability and the accuracy of the numerical solution to the problem, we apply this scheme to the discretized inverse problem rather than to the continuous one. The difficulties with large dimensions of discretized problems are overcome by a splitting method which only requires the solution of easy-to-solve one-dimensional problems. The numerical results provided by our method are very good and the techniques seem to be very promising.  相似文献

We prove that some multivariate linear tensor product problems are tractable in the worst case setting if they are defined as tensor products of univariate problems with logarithmically increasing smoothness. This is demonstrated for the approximation problem defined over Korobov spaces and for the approximation problem of certain diagonal operators. For these two problems we show necessary and sufficient conditions on the smoothness parameters of the univariate problems to obtain strong polynomial tractability. We prove that polynomial tractability is equivalent to strong polynomial tractability, and that weak tractability always holds for these problems. Under a mild assumption, the Korobov space consists of periodic functions. Periodicity is crucial since the approximation problem defined over Sobolev spaces of non-periodic functions with a special choice of the norm is not polynomially tractable for all smoothness parameters no matter how fast they go to infinity. Furthermore, depending on the choice of the norm we can even lose weak tractability.  相似文献

Abstract

Inverse problems of identifying parameters in partial differential equations constitute an important class of problems with diverse real-world applications. These identification problems are commonly explored in an optimization framework and there are many optimization formulations having their own advantages and disadvantages. Although a non-convex output least-squares (OLS) objective is commonly used, a convex-modified output least-squares (MOLS) has shown encouraging results in recent years. In this work, we focus on various aspects of the MOLS approach. We devise a rigorous (quadratic and non-quadratic) regularization framework for the identification of smooth as well as discontinuous coefficients. This framework subsumes the total variation regularization that has attracted a great deal of attention in identifying sharply varying coefficients and also in image processing. We give new existence results for the regularized optimization problems for OLS and MOLS. Restricting to the Tikhonov (quadratic) regularization, we carry out a detailed study of various stability aspects of the inverse problem under data perturbation and give new stability estimates for general inverse problems using OLS and MOLS formulations. We give a discretization scheme for the continuous inverse problem and prove the convergence of the discrete inverse problem to the continuous one. We collect discrete formulas for OLS and MOLS and compute their gradients and Hessians. We present applications of our theoretical results. To show the feasibility of the MOLS framework, we also provide computational results for the inverse problem of identifying parameters in three different classes of partial differential equations .  相似文献

An initial-value method is given for second-order singularly perturbed boundary-value problems with a boundary layer at one endpoint. The idea is to replace the original two-point boundary value problem by two suitable initial-value problems. The method is very easy to use and to implement. We consider quasilinear singular perturbation problems of the form εy+p(x)y+q(x,y)=h(x),x[0,1];y(0)=,y(1)=β with a boundary layer at one end point. The original problem is reduced to an asymptotically equivalent linear first order initial-value problem (IVP). Then, a variable step size initial value algorithm is applied to solve this (IVP). The algorithm is based on the locally exact integration of quadratic linearized problem coefficients on a non-uniform mesh. Two term-recurrence relation with controlled step size is obtained. Several problems are solved to demonstrate the applicability and efficiency of the algorithm. It is observed that the present method approximates the exact solution very well.  相似文献

The implicit Lagrangian has attracted much attention recently because of its utility in reformulating complementarity and variational inequality problems as unconstrained minimization problems. It was first proposed by Mangasarian and Solodov as a merit function for the nonlinear complementarity problem (Ref. 1). Three open problems were also raised in the same paper. This paper addresses, among other issues, one of these problems by giving the properties of the implicit Lagrangian and establishing its convexity under appropriate assumptions.  相似文献
