We prove global and local upper bounds for the Hessian of log positive solutions of the heat equation on a Riemannian manifold. The metric is either fixed or evolved under the Ricci flow. These upper bounds seem to be the first general ones that match the well-known lower bounds which have been around for some time. As an application, we discover a local, time reversed Harnack type inequality for bounded positive solutions of the heat equation.  相似文献

The aim of this article is to prove a global existence result with small data for the heat flow for harmonic maps from a manifold flat at infinity into a compact manifold. By flat at infinity we mean that the growth rate of the volumes of the balls on the manifold is the same as in the flat space. This is true for any manifold for small enough radius, but is in general not true when the radius of the ball grows. So prescribing such a growth rate also at infinity selects a class of manifolds on which our result holds. In this setting estimates are available for the heat kernel and its gradient on the base manifold. From such estimates it is easy to get L p L q bounds for the heat kernel. A contraction principle argument then yields a local existence result in a suitable Sobolev space and a global existence result for small data.  相似文献

In previous papers we have developed proof-theoretic techniques for extracting effective uniform bounds from large classes of ineffective existence proofs in functional analysis. Here `uniform' means independence from parameters in compact spaces. A recent case study in fixed point theory systematically yielded uniformity even w.r.t. parameters in metrically bounded (but noncompact) subsets which had been known before only in special cases. In the present paper we prove general logical metatheorems which cover these applications to fixed point theory as special cases but are not restricted to this area at all. Our theorems guarantee under general logical conditions such strong uniform versions of non-uniform existence statements. Moreover, they provide algorithms for actually extracting effective uniform bounds and transforming the original proof into one for the stronger uniformity result. Our metatheorems deal with general classes of spaces like metric spaces, hyperbolic spaces, CAT(0)-spaces, normed linear spaces, uniformly convex spaces, as well as inner product spaces.

In the present paper, slightly modifying the topological KKM Theorem of Park and Kim (1996), we obtain a new existence theorem for generalized vector equilibrium problems related to an admissible multifunction. We work here under the general framework of G-convex space which does not have any linear structure. Also, we give applications to greatest element, fixed point and vector saddle point problems. The results presented in this paper extend and unify many results in the literature by relaxing the compactness, the closedness and the convexity conditions.

We study a smooth symplectic 2-parameter unfolding of an almost hyperbolic diffeomorphism on two-dimensional torus. This diffeomorphism has a fixed point of the type of the degenerate saddle. In the parameter plane there is a bifurcation curve corresponding to the transition from the degenerate saddle into a saddle and parabolic fixed point, separatrices of these latter points form a channel on the torus. We prove that a saddle period-2 point exists for all parameter values close to the co-dimension two point whose separatrices intersect transversely the boundary curves of the channel that implies the existence of a quadratic homoclinic tangency for this period-2 point which occurs along a sequence of parameter values accumulating at the co-dimension 2 point. This leads to the break of stable/unstable foliations existing for almost hyperbolic diffeomorphism. Using the results of Franks [1] on π 1-diffeomorphisms, we discuss the possibility to get an invariant Cantor set of a positive measure being non-uniformly hyperbolic.  相似文献

In this paper, we use the Lagrange multipliers approach to study a general infinite-dimensionalinequality-constrained linear program IP. The main problem we are concerned with is to show that thestrong duality condition for IP holds, so that IP and its dual IP* are both solvable and their optimal values coincide. To do this, we first express IP as a convex program with a Lagrangian function L, say. Then we show that the strong duality condition implies the existence of a saddle point for L, and that, under an additional, mild condition, theconverse is also true. Moreover, the saddle point gives optimal solutions for IP and IP*. Thus, our original problem is essentially reduced to prove the existence of a saddle point for L, which is shown to be the case under suitable assumptions. We use this fact to studyequality-constrained programs, and we illustrate our main results with applications to thegeneral capacity and themass transfer problems. We study bifurcations of periodic orbits in two parameter general unfoldings of a certain type homoclinic tangency (called a generalized homoclinic tangency) to a saddle fixed point. We apply the rescaling technique to first return (Poincaré) maps and show that the rescaled maps can be brought to so-called generalized Hénon maps which have non-degenerate bifurcations of fixed points including those with multipliers e ± . On the basis of this, we prove the existence of infinite cascades of periodic sinks and periodic stable invariant circles.   相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a system of quasi-variational relations (in short, SQVR) and present several examples which show that it is a very general and unified model of several problems. We establish the existence of solutions of SQVP, in general, and several other problems, in particular. As an application of our results, we derive maximal element theorems and a collectively fixed point theorem for a family of multivalued maps. As further applications, we study Ky Fan type inequality / inclusion problem for vector valued bifunctions which includes constrained Nash equilibrium problem as a special case. We also present a common fixed point theorem for a family of multivalued maps. The results of this paper improve and generalize several known results on (system of) quasi-equilibrium problems, (system of) quasi-variational inclusions, constrained Nash equilibrium problem, collectively fixed point theorem and KKM type theorems for a family of multivalued maps. Our results also contain several results which appeared in recent literature.  相似文献

In this paper, some new generalized R-KKM type theorems for generalized R-KKM mappings with finitely closed values and with finitely open values are established in noncompact topological spaces without any convexity structure under much weaker assumptions. As applications, some new minimax inequalities, saddle point theorem and equilibrium existence theorem for equilibrium problems with lower and upper bounds are established in general noncompact topological spaces. In this article, by virtue of the Fan-Browder fixed point theorem, we first obtain a minimax theorem and establish an equivalent relationship between the minimax theorem and a cone saddle point theorem for scalar set-valued mappings. Then, by using scalarization functions, we investigate an existence theorem of the cone saddle point for set-valued mappings. In this paper, we derive bounds for the complex eigenvalues of a nonsymmetric saddle point matrix with a symmetric positive semidefinite (2,2) block, that extend the corresponding previous bounds obtained by Bergamaschi. For the nonsymmetric saddle point problem, we propose a block diagonal preconditioner for the conjugate gradient method in a nonstandard inner product. Summary. The aim of this work is to study a decoupled algorithm of a fixed point for solving a finite element (FE) problem for the approximation of viscoelastic fluid flow obeying an Oldroyd B differential model. The interest for this algorithm lies in its applications to numerical simulation and in the cost of computing. Furthermore it is easy to bring this algorithm into play. The unknowns are the viscoelastic part of the extra stress tensor, the velocity and the pressure. We suppose that the solution is sufficiently smooth and small. The approximation of stress, velocity and pressure are resp. discontinuous, continuous, continuous FE. Upwinding needed for convection of , is made by discontinuous FE. The method consists to solve alternatively a transport equation for the stress, and a Stokes like problem for velocity and pressure. Previously, results of existence of the solution for the approximate problem and error bounds have been obtained using fixed point techniques with coupled algorithm. In this paper we show that the mapping of the decoupled fixed point algorithm is locally (in a neighbourhood of ) contracting and we obtain existence, unicity (locally) of the solution of the approximate problem and error bounds. The existence of a saddle point in nonconvex constrained optimization problems is considered in this paper. We show that, under some mild conditions, the existence of a saddle point can be ensured in an equivalent p-th power formulation for a general class of nonconvex constrained optimization problems. This result expands considerably the class of optimization problems where a saddle point exists and thus enlarges the family of nonconvex problems that can be solved by dual-search methods.  相似文献

We study dynamical and topological properties of the unstable manifold of isolated invariant compacta of flows. We show that some parts of the unstable manifold admit sections carrying a considerable amount of information. These sections enable the construction of parallelizable structures which facilitate the study of the flow. From this fact, many nice consequences are derived, specially in the case of plane continua. For instance, we give an easy method of calculation of the Conley index provided we have some knowledge of the unstable manifold and, as a consequence, a relation between the Brouwer degree and the unstable manifold is established for smooth vector fields. We study the dynamics of non-saddle sets, properties of existence or non-existence of fixed points of flows and conditions under which attractors are fixed points, Morse decompositions, preservation of topological properties by continuation and classify the bifurcations taking place at a critical point.  相似文献

We prove a general form of a fixed point theorem for mappings from a Riemannian manifold into itself which are obtained as perturbations of a given mapping by means of general operations which in particular include the cases of sum (when a Lie group structure is given on the manifold) and composition. If the stationary Navier–Stokes system or an implicit time discretization of the evolutionary Navier–Stokes system is linearized by a Picard iteration and discretized in space by a mixed finite element method, there arises a saddle point system which may be solved by a Krylov subspace method or an Uzawa type approach. For each of these resolution methods, it is necessary to precondition the Schur complement associated to the saddle point problem in question. In the work at hand, we give upper and lower bounds of the eigenvalues of this Schur complement under the assumption that it is preconditioned by a pressure convection–diffusion matrix.  相似文献
