This paper presents burn-in effects on yield loss and reliability gain for a lifetime distribution developed from a negative binomial defect density distribution and a given defect size distribution, after assuming that the rate of defect growth is proportional to the power of the present defect size. While burn-in always results in yield loss, it creates reliability gain only if either defects grow fast or the field operation time is long. Otherwise, burn-in for a short time could result in reliability loss. The optimal burn-in time for maximizing reliability is finite if defects grow linearly in time and is infinite if defects grow nonlinearly in time. The optimal burn-in time for minimizing cost expressed in terms of both yield and reliability increases in the field operation time initially but becomes constant as the field operation time is long enough. It is numerically shown that increasing mean defect density or defect clustering increases the optimal burn-in time. 相似文献

The high cost of maintenance in the processing industry implies the need for optimal planning of maintenance strategy. In order to achieve this there is a need to understand the underlying failure processes, which are often very complex. In this paper, a new semi-parametric approach, combining Cox regression with density kernal smoothing, is introduced to estimate the underlying performance. The approach has been applied to several processes and it allowed insight into each process, which would not have been achieved if traditional approaches had been used. Particularly, the refurbishment of processes had a significant impact on the rate failure. This paper concludes by assessing this impact of refurbishment on the maintenance programme. 相似文献

tool. Our goal was to study how various conditions of geometric knowledge and various mental models of dragging interact and
influence the learning of central concepts of quadrilaterals. We present three situations that reflect this interaction. Each
situation is characterized by a specific interaction between the students’ knowledge of quadrilaterals and their understanding
of the dragging tool. The analyses of these cases offer a prism for viewing the challenge involved in changing concept images
of quadrilaterals while lacking understanding of the geometrical logic that underlies dragging. Understanding dragging as
a manipulation that preserves the critical attributes of the shape is necessary for constructing the concept images of the

This paper deals with the propagation of solitons in real fibres, governed by the system of inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger (INLS) equations. The Painlevé singularity structure analysis is utilized to check for the integrability of the system and from the analysis, the system is found to admit soliton-type lossless wave propagation. The system is transformed to its homogeneous counterpart using a suitable variable transformation and the soliton solutions are obtained through Bäcklund transformation after constructing the explicit Lax pair for the system. The one-soliton solutions are plotted for different choices of inhomogeneity parameters and the evolutionary characteristics of the solutions are analyzed. 相似文献

This paper is devoted to the Cauchy problem for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with time-dependent loss/gain which reads iut+Δu+λ|u|αu+ia(t)u=0. This equation appears in the recent studies of Bose–Einstein condensates and optical systems. We obtain some global existence and blow-up results which depend on the size of the loss/gain coefficient. In particular, we prove the global existence for the energy critical nonlinearity. By scaling and compactness arguments, we also discuss asymptotic profiles and concentration properties of blow-up solutions. 相似文献

At the turn of the century it seems to be appropriate to pause and to try to envision future possibilities. We want to discuss the prospects of algebra. To look into the future requires an understanding of the past, the longstanding aims, but also the difficulties which have been encountered. We are going to review part of the history of algebra in order to outline its present state. It is important to notice the missed opportunities and to analyze the reasons. To recognize the present possibilities requires to be aware of the tools which now are available and which may not yet have been used in an optimal way. We urge the reader to focus attention to the need for algebraic considerations in all parts of mathematics but also outside of mathematics. Of course, a view back should also strengthen the interest in classical open problems which now may be feasible to attack.This is a the written version of a lecture presented at the National Conference on Algebra VII, held in Beijing Normal University, October 1999. 相似文献
