In this article we provide an example of a Toeplitz operator which is 2-hyponormal but not subnormal, and we consider 2-hyponormal Toeplitz operators with finite rank self-commutators.Supported by NSF research grant DMS-9800931.Supported by KOSEF research project No. R01-2000-00003.  相似文献

We study Toeplitz operators on the harmonic Bergman spaceb p (B), whereB is the open unit ball inR n(n2), for 1<p. We give characterizations for the Toeplitz operators with positive symbols to be bounded, compact, and in Schatten classes. We also obtain a compactness criteria for the Toeplitz operators with continuous symbols.  相似文献

An aspect of the theory of Toeplitz operators on generalised Hardy spaces is considered, namely, a necessary and sufficient condition on the symbols to ensure that the product of two Toeplitz operators is itself a Toeplitz operator. The answer to this question draws on many deep results of the theory of generalised Hardy spaces.  相似文献

We analyze the influence of the radial component of a symbol to spectral, compactness, and Fredholm properties of Toeplitz operators, acting on the Bergman space. We show that there existcompact Toeplitz operators whose (radial) symbols areunbounded near the unit circle . Studying this question we give several sufficient, and necessary conditions, as well as the corresponding examples. The essential spectra of Toeplitz operators with pure radial symbols have sufficiently rich structure, and even can be massive.TheC *-algebras generated by Toeplitz operators with radial symbols are commutative, but the semicommutators[T a, Tb)=Ta·Tb–Ta·b are not compact in general. Moreover for bounded operatorsT a andT b the operatorT a·b may not be bounded at all. This work was partially supported by CONACYT Project 27934-E, México. The first author acknowledges the RFFI Grant 98-01-01023, Russia.  相似文献

The paper is devoted to the study of specific properties of Toeplitz operators with (unbounded, in general) radial symbolsa=a(r). Boundedness and compactness conditions, as well as examples, are given. It turns out that there exist non-zero symbols which generate zero Toeplitz operators. We characterize such symbols, as well as the class of symbols for whichT a =0 impliesa(r)=0 a.e. For each compact setM there exists a Toeplitz operatorT a such that spT a =ess-spT a =M. We show that the set of symbols which generate bounded Toeplitz operators no longer forms an algebra under pointwise multiplication.Besides the algebra of Toeplitz operators we consider the algebra of Weyl pseudodifferential operators obtained from Toeplitz ones by means of the Bargmann transform. Rewriting our Toeplitz and Weyl pseudodifferential operators in terms of the Wick symbols we come to their spectral decompositions. This work was partially supported by CONACYT Project 27934-E, México. The first author acknowledges the RFFI Grant 98-01-01023, Russia.  相似文献

We study pure subnormal operators whose self-commutators have zero as an eigenvalue. We show that various questions in this are closely related to questions involving approximation by functions satisfying and to the study ofgeneralized quadrature domains.First some general results are given that apply to all subnormal operators within this class; then we consider characterizing the analytic Toeplitz operators, the Hardy operators and cyclic subnormal operators whose self-commutators have zero as an eigenvalue.  相似文献

We consider the question of when a Toeplitz operator with continuous symbol on a connected compact abelian group is almost invertible, and show that this occurs precisely when the symbol is invertible and has zero topological index. The proof uses someK-theory computations.  相似文献

Let X be a bounded linear operator on the Hardy space H2 of the unit disk. We show that if is of finite rank for every inner function θ, then X=T?+F for some Toeplitz operator T? and some finite rank operator F on H2. This solves a variant of an open question where the compactness replaces the finite rank conditions.  相似文献

In this paper we discuss necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for the compression of an analytic Toeplitz operator onto a shift coinvariant subspace to have nontrivial reducing subspaces. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the kernel of a Toeplitz operator whose symbol is the quotient of two inner functions to be nontrivial and obtain examples of reducing subspaces from these kernels. Motivated by this result we give necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for the kernel of a Toeplitz operator whose symbol is the quotient of two inner functions to be nontrivial in terms of the supports of the two inner functions. By studying the commutant of a compression, we are able to give a necessary condition for the existence of reducing subspaces on certain shift coinvariant subspaces.  相似文献

In this paper we discuss an unusual phenomenon in the context of Toeplitz operators in the Bergman space on the unit disc: If two Toeplitz operators commute with a quasihomogeneous Toeplitz operator, then they commute with each other. In the Bourbaki terminology, this result can be stated as follows: The commutant of a quasihomogeneous Toeplitz operator is equal to its bicommutant. Received: 11 March 2008  相似文献

An operatorX: is said to be a generalized Toeplitz operator with respect to given contractionsT 1 andT 2 ifX=T 2XT1 *. The purpose of this line of research, started by Douglas, Sz.-Nagy and Foia, and Pták and Vrbová, is to study which properties of classical Toeplitz operators depend on their characteristic relation. Following this spirit, we give appropriate extensions of a number of results about Toeplitz operators. Namely, Wintner's theorem of invertibility of analytic Toeplitz operators, Widom and Devinatz's invertibility criteria for Toeplitz operators with unitary symbols, Hartman and Wintner's theorem about Toeplitz operator having a Fredholm symbol, Hartman and Wintner's estimate of the norm of a compactly perturbed Toeplitz operator, and the non-existence of compact classical Toeplitz operators due to Brown and Halmos.Dedicated to our friend Cora Sadosky on the occasion of her sixtieth birthday  相似文献

Toeplitz operators on Dirichlet spaces   总被引:13,自引:0,他引:13
In this paper we consider Toeplitz operators on Dirichlet spaces of the unit disk in whose symbols are nonnegative measures. We obtain necessry and sufficient conditions on the symbols for the operator to be bounded and compact. If the symbols are supported in a cone we also get necessary and sufficient conditions for the operators to belong to the Schatten p-class. Application to the Hankel operators are indicated. This work supported in part by NSF grant DMS 8701271  相似文献

For the unilateral shift operator U on the Hardy space H2(T), we describe conditions on operators T, acting on H2(T), that are necessary and sufficient for the pair (U, T) to be jointly hyponormal. One necessary condition is that T be a Toeplitz operator. Consequently, we study certain nonanalytic symbols that give rise to Toeplitz operators hyponormal with the shift, and thereby obtain examples of noncommuting, jointly hyponormal pairs.Supported in part by a research grant from NSERC  相似文献

In this paper, we give some basic results concerning Toeplitz operators whose symbol is of the form ei p θϕ, where ϕ is a radial function, then use these results to characterize all Toeplitz operators which commute with them.Received: 12 June 2004; revised: 27 January 2005  相似文献

LetM be a von Neumann algebra with a faithful normal tracial state and letH be a finite maximal subdiagonal subalgebra ofM. LetH 2 be the closure ofH in the noncommutative Lebesgue spaceL 2(M). We consider Toeplitz operators onH 2 whose symbol belong toM, and find that they possess several of the properties of Toeplitz operators onH 2( ) with symbol fromL ( ), including norm estimates, a Hartman-Wintner spectral inclusion theorem, and a characterisation of the weak* continuous linear functionals on the space of Toeplitz operators.  相似文献

It is well known that amplitude modulation does not affect Fredholmness of Toeplitz operators. The same is true for frequency modulation provided the symbol of the operator is piecewise continuous. In this article, it is shown that frequency modulation can destroy Fredholmness for Toeplitz operators with almost periodic symbols; the corresponding example is based on the observation that certain almost periodic functions become semi-almost periodic functions after appropriate frequency modulation. Moreover, this article contains several results that can be employed in order to decide whether a Toeplitz operator with a frequency modulated semi-almost periodic symbol is Fredholm.  相似文献

This paper concerns the problem of explicit inversion of a block Toeplitz operator with rational and analytic at infinity symbol. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the invertibility and explicit formulas for the inverse are given in terms of the realization of the symbol.  相似文献

We consider the problems of preconditioning and iterative inversion of Toeplitz operators on sequences of complex numbers. We divide the preconditioned operator into two parts, of which one is compact and the other is regarded as a small perturbartion. It will be shown that the Krylov subspace methods (such as GMRES) will perform initially at superlinear speed when applied to such a preconditioned system. However, with large iteration numbers, the speed will settle down to linear order. Most of our results are stated in terms of the symbol of the Toeplitz operator in question.  相似文献

A bounded operatorT is called cellular-indecomposable ifL M {0} wheneverL andM are nonzero invariant subspaces forT. We prove that a cyclic subnormal operator is cellular-indecomposable if and only if it is quasi-similar to an analytic Toeplitz operator whose symbol is a weak-star generator ofH . This completes our previous work [5], [6].  相似文献
